Developing Progressive Web Applications with Angular (and Ionic): How to Build and Deploy Mobile Applications without Paying Apple or Google for the ... by Michael D. Callaghan 3.7 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

Yes, it could be longer, but it's not! Let me start out by saying that this isn't a 900-page, in-depth, comprehensive course on Angular. Instead, it's a no-nonsense guide to getting your Angular app hosted as a Progressive Web Application (PWA) as quickly as possible, and with a minimum amount of fluff. You'll thank me for not wasting your time. Forget the App Stores! They are too expensive: While Google only charges a one-time $25 fee to join, Apple charges $99/year just for the privilege of hosting your apps there. And even if you are willing to pay, those companies still have veto power over the content of your application. ? They are too complicated: Have you seen what's required to submit an application to either Apple or Google? ? Updates are painful: Each update to a mobile App Store requires going through the entire submission problem ? You risk arbitrary rejection: When submitting to an app store, it is possible that a faceless stranger might reject your app. I actually had an app rejected by Apple because, "it provided no user value." Ouch. It's time to say no. As a software developer, you want your apps to reach as many people as possible, right? Which platform should you target to reach the most users possible? How about all of them? Progressive Web Apps, or PWAs, let you do just that... and without paying Google or Apple to be in their stores. Progressive Web Apps to the Rescue ? No App Store Submissions! One of my favorite reasons to choose a PWA is that there are no app store submissions. If you are building an app for the enterprise, you may not want it distributed to users outside of your organization. ? Painless Updates: updating a PWA is no different than updating any other web app. Your features or bug fixes can go live as quickly as your build process allows. What are you getting? In this book, I'll show you how to take an existing Angular application and deploy it to the web as a Progressive Web Application. This will make it ...

The Art of Image Processing: Digital camera processing by Chris Bore (BORES Signal Processing) 3.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 9 hours ago

This book is about Image Processing. It is the first in a short series. This one discusses image processing for photographs. It explains how digital cameras work, and the basic processing that leads to a pleasing image being displayed for viewing. Digital camera, photo processing and display technology have their base in the realistic painting of the Renaissance, the later exploration of color and shade by the Impressionists, and investigations into the science of human vision late in the Age of Enlightenment. These origins tend to be obscured by the technical detail but they are encoded into the standards and the processing tools and technology. In this book I relate these artistic and scientific origins to the modern technology that has developed from them. Renaissance realism was concerned with rendering scenes that could be seen - things that you could have looked at, captured with the aim of being viewed. Leonardo da Vinci described realistic painting as: "a subtle invention, which with philosophical and subtle speculation considers all manner of forms: sea, land, trees, animals, grasses, flowers, all of which are enveloped in light and shade" and this book focuses on image processing whose aim is to produce a pleasing picture that is obviously of some thing. I have deliberately avoided a mathematical treatment and left the topic of compression - which is unavoidably mathematical - to two later books. As with other books in the "Art of" titles, this eBook - written specifically for the Amazon Kindle - is meant to be read as you would a novel: starting at the beginning, reading through in sequence, following the narrative. Not stopping to make notes, nor working through exercises or assignments, just reading it for enjoyment and to gain a first understanding of the subject. The highly visual and colorful nature of the subject means you will gain much more from viewing this book on a Kindle viewer that supports color. There are two other books in this ...

TRUMPBOOK: How Digital Liberals Silenced A Nation Into Making America Hate Again by Naresh Vissa (Krish Publishing) 5.0 Stars (6 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

WARNING! THE CONTENT IN THIS BOOK IS CONTROVERSIAL AND MAY BE CONSIDERED OFFENSIVE OR DISTURBING TO DIGITAL LIBERALS. READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED. The Election of 2016 was a wake-up call to intolerant digital liberals. They were delusional enough not to see Donald Trump's victory coming. The results made nearly half the country laugh, smile and proud. Donald Trump was not elected by his voters. It was his biggest detractors - mainstream liberal news media, loudmouth liberals, and digital liberals alike - who built up his support to keep his campaign running. Through real Facebook posts and rigorous primary and secondary research, TRUMPBOOK explains how President Trump's haters were actually his biggest supporters. Chapter subjects include: - How digital liberals elected President Donald Trump - Why do Kanye West and other African-Americans support Donald Trump? - Why so many Indian-Americans support Donald Trump - Why Melania Trump will make American women hot again - Why Colin Kaepernick and other athletes kneeling during the national anthem doesn't do anything for anyone - Why NBA coaches Steve Kerr, Gregg Popovich, and Stan Van Gundy should shut their mouths about politics - Why Meryl Streep, George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Hollywood should shut their mouths about politics - 5 ways to defeat Trump in 2020 - The craziest Trump-related Facebook posts you'll ever see If you have felt bullied by reading political posts on Facebook and other social media, or if you think your friends hate you just because of your political views or choices, then TRUMPBOOK is for you. Hopefully, this book will resonate with your situation and give you the vote of support that you're not alone.

ICT as a Strategic Tool to Leapfrog the Efficiency of Tax Administrations by Centro Interamericano de Administraciones Tributarias 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This new CIAT publication addresses the use of information technologies in the tax administrations as a tool to increase voluntary compliance rates with tax obligations and the capacity to fight tax evasion and harmful tax planning. Chapters 2 to 7 deal with the application of ICTs in the registration processes, the processing of tax returns, auditing, risk management, collection of late payments and electronic documents. Chapter 10 deals with horizontal services, for general purposes, which should support the entire tax administration, regardless of the system's architecture. In this sense, aspects ranging from security or document management to business process automation are addressed. In a long-term vision to improve the use of information technology for the organization, Chapter 11 covers all the aspects that must be included for such purpose, as a roadmap. Chapter 14 reviews the critical factors of project management and change management as a contribution to achieving objectives, if well managed, or possibly leading to failure, if poorly executed. The potential that new technologies could bring to the tax administration is presented in Chapter 15. This chapter is not only for early adopters, but it is also a good incentive for dreamers that want to start the new disruptive trend for tax administration, not because it is in vogue, but because it really opens the potential to better services and control.

Projection-Based Clustering through Self-Organization and Swarm Intelligence: Combining Cluster Analysis with the Visualization of High-Dimensional ... by Michael Christoph Thrun (Springer Vieweg) 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This open access book covers aspects of unsupervised machine learning used for knowledge discovery in data science and introduces a data-driven approach to cluster analysis, the Databionic swarm (DBS). DBS consists of the 3D landscape visualization and clustering of data. The 3D landscape enables 3D printing of high-dimensional data structures. The clustering and number of clusters or an absence of cluster structure are verified by the 3D landscape at a glance. DBS is the first swarm-based technique that shows emergent properties while exploiting concepts of swarm intelligence, self-organization and the Nash equilibrium concept from game theory. It results in the elimination of a global objective function and the setting of parameters. By downloading the R package DBS can be applied to data drawn from diverse research fields and used even by non-professionals in the field of data mining.

Cloud-Based Benchmarking of Medical Image Analysis by Allan Hanbury (Springer) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This book is open access under a CC BY-NC 2.5 license. This book presents the VISCERAL project benchmarks for analysis and retrieval of 3D medical images (CT and MRI) on a large scale, which used an innovative cloud-based evaluation approach where the image data were stored centrally on a cloud infrastructure and participants placed their programs in virtual machines on the cloud. The book presents the points of view of both the organizers of the VISCERAL benchmarks and the participants. The book is divided into five parts. Part I presents the cloud-based benchmarking and Evaluation-as-a-Service paradigm that the VISCERAL benchmarks used. Part II focuses on the datasets of medical images annotated with ground truth created in VISCERAL that continue to be available for research. It also covers the practical aspects of obtaining permission to use medical data and manually annotating 3D medical images efficiently and effectively. The VISCERAL benchmarks are described in Part III, including a presentation and analysis of metrics used in evaluation of medical image analysis and search. Lastly, Parts IV and V present reports by some of the participants in the VISCERAL benchmarks, with Part IV devoted to the anatomy benchmarks and Part V to the retrieval benchmark. This book has two main audiences: the datasets as well as the segmentation and retrieval results are of most interest to medical imaging researchers, while eScience and computational science experts benefit from the insights into using the Evaluation-as-a-Service paradigm for evaluation and benchmarking on huge amounts of data.

Is There a Common Understanding of What Constitutes Cyber Warfare? by Shane Martin Coughlan (Lulu.com) 4.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified one day ago

This research paper applies a qualitative grounded theory analysis to delineate a common understanding of the constitution of cyber warfare from twelve media, institutional, educational, governmental and military sources. Partly motivating this is the need to address the confusion between cyber warfare and what is termed 'Information Warfare', a broad discipline encompassing all military information operations. Another motivation is the hypothesis that agreement on the constitution, danger and potential of cyber warfare is unsubstantial or vague, that cyber warfare is a misunderstood or neglected concept, and perhaps even suffers from hyperbole and misrepresentation. Though there is a high public awareness of cyber war, there is little attempt to define the concept in existing literature. This paper unpacks the scope, danger and timescale of cyber warfare according to existing texts, and lays the foundation for an analytical framework of patterned and coherent research.

Managed Software Evolution by Ralf Reussner (Springer) 4.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 4 hours ago

This open access book presents the outcomes of the "Design for Future - Managed Software Evolution" priority program 1593, which was launched by the German Research Foundation ("Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG)") to develop new approaches to software engineering with a specific focus on long-lived software systems. The different lifecycles of software and hardware platforms lead to interoperability problems in such systems. Instead of separating the development, adaptation and evolution of software and its platforms, as well as aspects like operation, monitoring and maintenance, they should all be integrated into one overarching process. Accordingly, the book is split into three major parts, the first of which includes an introduction to the nature of software evolution, followed by an overview of the specific challenges and a general introduction to the case studies used in the project. The second part of the book consists of the main chapters on knowledge carrying software, and cover tacit knowledge in software evolution, continuous design decision support, model-based round-trip engineering for software product lines, performance analysis strategies, maintaining security in software evolution, learning from evolution for evolution, and formal verification of evolutionary changes. In turn, the last part of the book presents key findings and spin-offs. The individual chapters there describe various case studies, along with their benefits, deliverables and the respective lessons learned. An overview of future research topics rounds out the coverage. The book was mainly written for scientific researchers and advanced professionals with an academic background. They will benefit from its comprehensive treatment of various topics related to problems that are now gaining in importance, given the higher costs for maintenance and evolution in comparison to the initial development, and the fact that today, most software is not developed from scratch, but as part of a ...

Data and Text Processing for Health and Life Sciences (Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology Book 1137) by Francisco M. Couto (Springer) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This open access book is a step-by-step introduction on how shell scripting can help solve many of the data processing tasks that Health and Life specialists face everyday with minimal software dependencies. The examples presented in the book show how simple command line tools can be used and combined to retrieve data and text from web resources, to filter and mine literature, and to explore the semantics encoded in biomedical ontologies. To store data this book relies on open standard text file formats, such as TSV, CSV, XML, and OWL, that can be open by any text editor or spreadsheet application. The first two chapters, Introduction and Resources, provide a brief introduction to the shell scripting and describe popular data resources in Health and Life Sciences. The third chapter, Data Retrieval, starts by introducing a common data processing task that involves multiple data resources. Then, this chapter explains how to automate each step of that task by introducing the required commands line tools one by one. The fourth chapter, Text Processing, shows how to filter and analyze text by using simple string matching techniques and regular expressions. The last chapter, Semantic Processing, shows how XPath queries and shell scripting is able to process complex data, such as the graphs used to specify ontologies. Besides being almost immutable for more than four decades and being available in most of our personal computers, shell scripting is relatively easy to learn by Health and Life specialists as a sequence of independent commands. Comprehending them is like conducting a new laboratory protocol by testing and understanding its procedural steps and variables, and combining their intermediate results. Thus, this book is particularly relevant to Health and Life specialists or students that want to easily learn how to process data and text, and which in return may facilitate and inspire them to acquire deeper bioinformatics skills in the future.

Data Politics: Worlds, Subjects, Rights (Routledge Studies in International Political Sociology) by Didier Bigo (Routledge) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified one day ago

Data has become a social and political issue because of its capacity to reconfigure relationships between states, subjects, and citizens. This book explores how data has acquired such an important capacity and examines how critical interventions in its uses in both theory and practice are possible. Data and politics are now inseparable: data is not only shaping our social relations, preferences and life chances but our very democracies. Expert international contributors consider political questions about data and the ways it provokes subjects to govern themselves by making rights claims. Concerned with the things (infrastructures of servers, devices, and cables) and language (code, programming, and algorithms) that make up cyberspace, this book demonstrates that without understanding these conditions of possibility it is impossible to intervene in or to shape data politics. Aimed at academics and postgraduate students interested in political aspects of data, this volume will also be of interest to experts in the fields of internet studies, international studies, Big Data, digital social sciences and humanities. The Open Access version of this book, available at https://www.routledge.com/Data-Politics-Worlds-Subjects-Rights/Bigo-Isin-Ruppert/p/book/9781138053267, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license.

High-Performance Modelling and Simulation for Big Data Applications: Selected Results of the COST Action IC1406 cHiPSet (Theoretical Computer Science ... by Horacio González-Vélez (Springer) 3.8 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This open access book was prepared as a Final Publication of the COST Action IC1406 "High-Performance Modelling and Simulation for Big Data Applications (cHiPSet)" project. Long considered important pillars of the scientific method, Modelling and Simulation have evolved from traditional discrete numerical methods to complex data-intensive continuous analytical optimisations. Resolution, scale, and accuracy have become essential to predict and analyse natural and complex systems in science and engineering. When their level of abstraction raises to have a better discernment of the domain at hand, their representation gets increasingly demanding for computational and data resources. On the other hand, High Performance Computing typically entails the effective use of parallel and distributed processing units coupled with efficient storage, communication and visualisation systems to underpin complex data-intensive applications in distinct scientific and technical domains. It is then arguably required to have a seamless interaction of High Performance Computing with Modelling and Simulation in order to store, compute, analyse, and visualise large data sets in science and engineering. Funded by the European Commission, cHiPSet has provided a dynamic trans-European forum for their members and distinguished guests to openly discuss novel perspectives and topics of interests for these two communities. Automated Machine Learning: Methods, Systems, Challenges (The Springer Series on Challenges in Machine Learning) by Frank Hutter (Springer) 4.5 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified one day ago

This open access book presents the first comprehensive overview of general methods in Automated Machine Learning (AutoML), collects descriptions of existing systems based on these methods, and discusses the first series of international challenges of AutoML systems. The recent success of commercial ML applications and the rapid growth of the field has created a high demand for off-the-shelf ML methods that can be used easily and without expert knowledge. However, many of the recent machine learning successes crucially rely on human experts, who manually select appropriate ML architectures (deep learning architectures or more traditional ML workflows) and their hyperparameters. To overcome this problem, the field of AutoML targets a progressive automation of machine learning, based on principles from optimization and machine learning itself. This book serves as a point of entry into this quickly-developing field for researchers and advanced students alike, as well as providing a reference for practitioners aiming to use AutoML in their work.

This open access book summarizes research being pursued within the Manutelligence project, the goal of which is to help enterprises develop smart, social and flexible products with high value added services. Manutelligence has improved Product and Service Design by developing suitable models and methods, and connecting them through a modular, collaborative and secure ICT Platform. The use of real data collected in real time by Internet of Things (IoT) technologies underpins the design of product-service systems and makes it possible to monitor them throughout their life cycle. Available data allows costs and sustainability issues to be more accurately measured and simulated in the form of Life Cycle Cost (LCC) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Analysing data from IoT systems and sharing LCC and LCA information via the ICT Platform can help to accelerate the design of product-service systems, reduce costs and better understand customer needs. Industrial partners involved in Manutelligence provide a clear overview of the project's outcomes, and demonstrate how its technological solutions can be used to improve the design of product-service systems and the management of product-service life cycles.

Autonomous Driving: Technical, Legal and Social Aspects by Markus Maurer (Springer) 4.5 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This book takes a look at fully automated, autonomous vehicles and discusses many open questions: How can autonomous vehicles be integrated into the current transportation system with diverse users and human drivers? Where do automated vehicles fall under current legal frameworks? What risks are associated with automation and how will society respond to these risks? How will the marketplace react to automated vehicles and what changes may be necessary for companies? Experts from Germany and the United States define key societal, engineering, and mobility issues related to the automation of vehicles. They discuss the decisions programmers of automated vehicles must make to enable vehicles to perceive their environment, interact with other road users, and choose actions that may have ethical consequences. The authors further identify expectations and concerns that will form the basis for individual and societal acceptance of autonomous driving. While the safety benefits of such vehicles are tremendous, the authors demonstrate that these benefits will only be achieved if vehicles have an appropriate safety concept at the heart of their design. Realizing the potential of automated vehicles to reorganize traffic and transform mobility of people and goods requires similar care in the design of vehicles and networks. By covering all of these topics, the book aims to provide a current, comprehensive, and scientifically sound treatment of the emerging field of "autonomous driving".

Manifesto of the New Economy: Institutions and Business Models of the Digital Society by Alexander Dolgin (Springer) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

The book describes the main directions for the development of the digital society. The author angles its book to those who are interested to know what would replace search engines, and how social networks would evolve; what profit can be made of different forms of informational collaboration (crowdsourcing, collaborative filtering). And, the main thing, how it will influence the structure of the society and human pursuit for happiness. The author does not confine himself to a theory, he sets and solves practical questions: How talent, success and "stardom" are interconnected, how to make money in social networks, what is the business model for the development of entertainment and media, how to measure cultural values, and what is the subjective time of the individual and how to make it qualitative? There have been no answers to these questions before. Internet and social networks have provided tools and data that Alexander Dolgin was the first to use in economics.

Social Networks with Rich Edge Semantics (Chapman & Hall/CRC Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery Series) by Quan Zheng (CRC Press) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

Social Networks with Rich Edge Semantics introduces a new mechanism for representing social networks in which pairwise relationships can be drawn from a range of realistic possibilities, including different types of relationships, different strengths in the directions of a pair, positive and negative relationships, and relationships whose intensities change with time. For each possibility, the book shows how to model the social network using spectral embedding. It also shows how to compose the techniques so that multiple edge semantics can be modeled together, and the modeling techniques are then applied to a range of datasets. Features • Introduces the reader to difficulties with current social network analysis, and the need for richer representations of relationships among nodes, including accounting for intensity, direction, type, positive/negative, and changing intensities over time • Presents a novel mechanism to allow social networks with qualitatively different kinds of relationships to be described and analyzed • Includes extensions to the important technique of spectral embedding, shows that they are mathematically well motivated and proves that their results are appropriate • Shows how to exploit embeddings to understand structures within social networks, including subgroups, positional significance, link or edge prediction, consistency of role in different contexts, and net flow of properties through a node • Illustrates the use of the approach for real-world problems for online social networks, criminal and drug smuggling networks, and networks where the nodes are themselves groups Suitable for researchers and students in social network research, data science, statistical learning, and related areas, this book will help to provide a deeper understanding of real-world social networks.

Essential Speech and Language Technology for Dutch: Results by the STEVIN-programme (Theory and Applications of Natural Language Processing Book 14) by Peter Spyns (Springer) 3.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified one day ago

The book provides an overview of more than a decade of joint R&D efforts in the Low Countries on HLT for Dutch. It not only presents the state of the art of HLT for Dutch in the areas covered, but, even more importantly, a description of the resources (data and tools) for Dutch that have been created are now available for both academia and industry worldwide. The contributions cover many areas of human language technology (for Dutch): corpus collection (including IPR issues) and building (in particular one corpus aiming at a collection of 500M word tokens), lexicology, anaphora resolution, a semantic network, parsing technology, speech recognition, machine translation, text (summaries) generation, web mining, information extraction, and text to speech to name the most important ones. The book also shows how a medium-sized language community (spanning two territories) can create a digital language infrastructure (resources, tools, etc.) as a basis for subsequent R&D. At the same time, it bundles contributions of almost all the HLT research groups in Flanders and the Netherlands, hence offers a view of their recent research activities. Targeted readers are mainly researchers in human language technology, in particular those focusing on Dutch. It concerns researchers active in larger networks such as the CLARIN, META-NET, FLaReNet and participating in conferences such as ACL, EACL, NAACL, COLING, RANLP, CICling, LREC, CLIN and DIR ( both in the Low Countries), InterSpeech, ASRU, ICASSP, ISCA, EUSIPCO, CLEF, TREC, etc. In addition, some chapters are interesting for human language technology policy makers and even for science policy makers in general.

Computation and the Humanities: Towards an Oral History of Digital Humanities (Springer Series on Cultural Computing) by Julianne Nyhan (Springer) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This book addresses the application of computing to cultural heritage and the discipline of Digital Humanities that formed around it. Digital Humanities research is transforming how the Human record can be transmitted, shaped, understood, questioned and imagined and it has been ongoing for more than 70 years. However, we have no comprehensive histories of its research trajectory or its disciplinary development. The authors make a first contribution towards remedying this by uncovering, documenting, and analysing a number of the social, intellectual and creative processes that helped to shape this research from the 1950s until the present day. By taking an oral history approach, this book explores questions like, among others, researchers' earliest memories of encountering computers and the factors that subsequently prompted them to use the computer in Humanities research. Computation and the Humanities will be an essential read for cultural and computing historians, digital humanists and those interested in developments like the digitisation of cultural heritage and artefacts. Elements of Robotics by Mordechai Ben-Ari (Springer) 4.4 Stars (69 Reviews)    Price verified 6 hours ago

This open access book bridges the gap between playing with robots in school and studying robotics at the upper undergraduate and graduate levels to prepare for careers in industry and research. Robotic algorithms are presented formally, but using only mathematics known by high-school and first-year college students, such as calculus, matrices and probability. Concepts and algorithms are explained through detailed diagrams and calculations. Elements of Robotics presents an overview of different types of robots and the components used to build robots, but focuses on robotic algorithms: simple algorithms like odometry and feedback control, as well as algorithms for advanced topics like localization, mapping, image processing, machine learning and swarm robotics. These algorithms are demonstrated in simplified contexts that enable detailed computations to be performed and feasible activities to be posed. Students who study these simplified demonstrations will be well prepared for advanced study of robotics. The algorithms are presented at a relatively abstract level, not tied to any specific robot. Instead a generic robot is defined that uses elements common to most educational robots: differential drive with two motors, proximity sensors and some method of displaying output to the user. The theory is supplemented with over 100 activities, most of which can be successfully implemented using inexpensive educational robots. Activities that require more computation can be programmed on a computer. Archives are available with suggested implementations for the Thymio robot and standalone programs in Python.

Anti-fragile ICT Systems (Simula SpringerBriefs on Computing Book 1) by Kjell Jørgen Hole (Springer) 3.7 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 8 hours ago

This book introduces a novel approach to the design and operation of large ICT systems. It views the technical solutions and their stakeholders as complex adaptive systems and argues that traditional risk analyses cannot predict all future incidents with major impacts. To avoid unacceptable events, it is necessary to establish and operate anti-fragile ICT systems that limit the impact of all incidents, and which learn from small-impact incidents how to function increasingly well in changing environments. The book applies four design principles and one operational principle to achieve anti-fragility for different classes of incidents. It discusses how systems can achieve high availability, prevent malware epidemics, and detect anomalies. Analyses of Netflix's media streaming solution, Norwegian telecom infrastructures, e-government platforms, and Numenta's anomaly detection software show that cloud computing is essential to achieving anti-fragility for classes of events with negative impacts.

Enhanced Living Environments: Algorithms, Architectures, Platforms, and Systems (Information Systems and Applications, incl. Internet/Web, and HCI ... by Ivan Ganchev (Springer) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This open access book was prepared as a Final Publication of the COST Action IC1303 "Algorithms, Architectures and Platforms for Enhanced Living Environments (AAPELE)". The concept of Enhanced Living Environments (ELE) refers to the area of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) that is more related with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Effective ELE solutions require appropriate ICT algorithms, architectures, platforms, and systems, having in view the advance of science and technology in this area and the development of new and innovative solutions that can provide improvements in the quality of life for people in their homes and can reduce the financial burden on the budgets of the healthcare providers. The aim of this book is to become a state-of-the-art reference, discussing progress made, as well as prompting future directions on theories, practices, standards, and strategies related to the ELE area. The book contains 12 chapters and can serve as a valuable reference for undergraduate students, post-graduate students, educators, faculty members, researchers, engineers, medical doctors, healthcare organizations, insurance companies, and research strategists working in this area.
