Enigmatic Argonautica by L. A. Braun 2.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

Perplexing prophecies about a one-shoed conqueror. A bewitched ship cast at sea to face an obstacle course of creepy creatures and terrifying monsters. A beautiful sorceress to help poison the terrible dragon who guards the coveted Golden Fleece. Ever wonder what the famous story of 'Jason and the Argonauts' had really been about? Were there rebus picture word puzzles in the related artwork? Step aboard the enchanted mystery ship for a journey through the literary epic poem of 'Argonautica.' Utilizing an extravaganza of vibrant illustrations from history's most eminent artists, this seminar book first highlights the fine points of the fundamental story and then acquaints the readers with the history and overall canons of the Philosophers' Stone. The readers embark upon a tour through the epic saga 'Argonautica,'--the legendary 3rd century B.C. Greek poem about 'Jason and the Argonauts' journeys in their quest for the Golden Fleece. Readers will then learn the intricacies of the Art of alchemy, but what is even more important--by carefully piecing together the scattered clues, they will be brought nearer to the closely guarded message hidden deep inside the deliberately obscured texts. There is a message hidden in the picture word puzzles. Only this author exposes the true intent of the ancient alchemists, fishing out the actual concealed message from the muddy pond of hints and innuendo. The Art had been used for a very specific purpose -- and readers are guaranteed to be surprised with the deciphered end result. Upending the apple cart on what should be found within the alchemy riddles, the author has ferreted the secret message out from the picture word puzzles. The message isn't what anyone expected. In effect, the end result creates a paradigm shift on how these ancient works should be considered. Surprisingly, there had been hidden secrets in the Masters' Art related to 'Jason and the Argonauts.'

This latest edition of Colours of Wales is even bigger, brighter and sharper than before. New images have been added giving you even greater value for money and all in the new HD format. E-colouring books for adults unlike traditional hard copies allow you to print and colour images as often as you like! Colouring books for adults are a relatively new phenomenon and many people are still unaware of the benefits that can be achieved by a little time spent doing something as simple as colouring. Different terms are often used to describe adult colouring, with mindfulness and art-therapy being the most popular at this moment in time. Personally I believe relaxartation better describes the precious moments spent relaxing and colouring. My Relax-art-ation Series of books covers a range of popular themes that many people will find calming and inspiring rather than just simple patterns and shapes. The first "Colours of... " books are dedicated to travel and popular culture. Colours of Wales is close to my heart, like many people from the North of England I spent many happy summers in North Wales so this book and its images brought back some fantastic childhood memories for me. I know this book is skewed towards Conwy, Gwynedd and Powys but I'll redress that in Colours of Wales Too. color pictures of Wales, colour pictures of Wales, colour pictures of Cardiff, color pictures of Cardiff, colour pictures of Swansea, color pictures of Swansea, colour pictures of Rhondda, colour pictures of Rhondda, color pictures of Powys, colour pictures of Powys, color pictures of Gwynedd, colour pictures of Gwynedd, color pictures of Pembrokeshire, colour pictures of Pembrokeshire, color pictures of the Mumbles, colour pictures of Mumbles, Llanrwst, Crickhowell, Breacon Beacons, Chepstow, Barry Island, Solva, Harlech, Porthmadog, Ffestiniog, Portmeirion, Llandudno, Boshington, Conwy, Anglesey, #Mumbles, #Llanrwst, #Crickhowell, #Breacon Beacons, #Chepstow, #Barry Island, #Solva, ...

Da Vinci’s Divine Proportion by L. A. Braun Price verified 10 hours ago

Leonardo Da Vinci had been obsessed with the Divine Proportion of the Golden Ratio. It had been expressed through his many manifestations of the geometric pattern of the 'Stairway to Heaven.' There are geometric and mathematical constants that Da Vinci had secretly embedded within his works. He had tried to show us how these constants are ubiquitous--appearing above, below and within us. In fact, the secrets are woven tightly into the quilt of our very nature. Explore the sacred universal pattern of the fractal iteration of the Sierpinski Triangle--as the overriding cosmic design of all matter and energy in what we today call reality. This book delivers a golden payload of fresh new rebus pictogram secrets that had been hidden within the Masters' Art. The sizzling revelations are visible to those who will truly see--and they are guaranteed to jolt you right out of your safe zone. Leonardo Da Vinci had stated that there are three types of people:... 'those who see, those who can be shown and those who will not see.' Find out which type you are by looking at the sacred geometry in the Masters' Art through the unique perspective of this picture-based book.

Sun Temple | Modhera: Discover India | Photojournals (Heritage of India Book 6) by David Riley Price verified 11 hours ago

History of India India has enjoyed a long period of history. It is one of the lands of ancient civilizations. The history of the Indian subcontinent began with the birth of the Indus Valley Civilization and the coming of the Aryans. This period going back to almost 3300 BC, is usually referred to as the pre-Vedic or the Vedic period. It was during this time, that Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism rose in the country. Then came the time of powerful ruling dynasties. Amongst the first rulers to hold dominion over most of the Indian subcontinent were the Mauryan Empire. During the 4th and 3rd Century BC, they had conquered and ruled over most of the Indian subcontinent. For the next 1500 years, a lot of different rulers ruled over different parts of the Indian subcontinent, and India flourished in all aspects, including trade, literature, culture, religion, administration, civilization, mathematics, astronomy, et cetera. The Islamic rule in the country started in the 13th Century, beginning in the northern parts of the country when the Delhi Sultanate was founded in 1206 CE. Although Islam had come to many parts of the subcontinent as early as 8th Century, it truly rose to power only after 13th Century CE. Over time, many other dynasties rose, conquered lands, built significant landmarks and fell again. Some of the notable ones included the Mughals, the Marathas, the Sikhs, et cetera. From the late 18th Century onwards, a large part of India was annexed by the British East India Company, amongst other colonial powers such as the Dutch, the French and the Portuguese. After the revolt of 1857 however, much of the control of the country fell directly under the hands of the British Crown. Then began a long struggle for Independence which was finally accomplished in the year 1947, after the country was partitioned into the dominions of India, Pakistan and several other princely states. About the series Throughout the History, different empires flourished and fell again. ...

Detour by Brian Shell (PassionHero Press) Price verified 13 hours ago

Two odd-couple distant brothers reunite to drive from Detroit to LA as a one-last-look road trip when one of them needs the other for a life-or-death bone marrow transplant. It's a film script turned to stage play format and a storyline similar to "Sideways" only with weed instead of wine. It's also a coming-of-age bonding tale about long-lost brothers who now need each other the most. An interesting tidbit is that it was conceived in 1996 by best friends in film on a class field trip to Cedar Point amusement park. "Rain Man" elements exist as well within its story. They lose everything they packed along the way but become best friends again just in time for the unproven precarious medical procedure.

Enigmatic Number '26': Da Vinci's REAL Hidden Secrets by L. A. Braun Price verified 9 hours ago

Had Leonardo Da Vinci really hidden secrets in his art work? This picture-based book whisks you off on a helicopter tour through his works to illustrate his REAL secret of the number '26' in his paintings (even in some of his most famous paintings -- like the Mona Lisa and the Madonna of the Rocks). Don't miss the updating Addendum! Although the search through Leonardo Da Vinci's works for embedded secrets had begun with the number '26,' it had then soon launched off into fresh and stirring discoveries. There was a number under a rose in the 'Madonna of the Stones' and that painting had pointed to a geometric circle with unique propensities -- which was christened as the 'PHI CIRCLE.' That wasn't the end though. Da Vinci had used 'rebus' to hide secrets within his works. 'Rebus' is an encoding technique where pictures are used to epitomize words, parts of words or number. This rebus had been hidden all over the Philosophers' Stone genre of texts. It wasn't long before this same rebus was traced throughout numerous other works in cultures spanning the globe. In this earlier book the focus was on the tantalizing Da Vinci secret of the number '26,' which he had hidden all over his works. This particular 2013 book was the initial groundbreaker on presenting different perspectives on the number '26.' Perfect for the overview--this enthralling spellbinder traces this hidden number '26' all over fine art, literature and structures throughout the history of human civilization. It is the most prolific and profound statement ever uttered by man, its use unmatched and unprecedented in our history. It is traced all the way back to the Greek and Egyptian gods. It can be traced via the goddesses of fertility through the oldest Egyptian Temples, the city of Petra and through the Trojan War artifacts. The collective thread of the mystery worship of the fertility goddess had seemed to morph into the various cultures and times, yet it remained the same. The common denominator was ...

Merlinsky: The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Alan C. Baird Price verified 12 hours ago

Imagine the Lord of the Rings meets Harry Potter and they go back to the future. Based on the Arthurian legend and the ancient folklore myth of the sorcerer's apprentice. Synopsis: The endless hordes of Hollywood tourists in the late 1940's are easy marks for a con-man magician like Harry Merlinsky. He knows how to sucker the rubes and flash the ol' hamster-outta-the-fedora every now and then, to baffle 'em and dazzle 'em. But he didn't expect a naive fan like Jake, who wants to learn Harry's Old Knowledge - "real" magic. Harry's archenemy obliterates Jake's girlfriend, forcing Jake to become a wizard, just to stay alive. Will Jake use his newfound powers for vengeance? The timeless myth of the Sorcerer's Apprentice unfolds against the backdrop of the Magic Castle and the Hollywoodland sign. Lineage: 12th-century folklore myths begat The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, which begat a tone poem by composer Paul Dukás, which begat Disney's Fantasia, which inspired Merlinsky, a magical action-adventure. Black Boys, Flyy. by Jamal Fortune 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 14 hours ago

If you're a fan of Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" (if you're around someone who doesn't like MJ, run quickly) then you might want to "why... why... why", why is "Black Boys, Flyy" important? Steve Harvey made a joke in the critically acclaimed (maybe it wasn't critically acclaimed, but all the niggas I know seen it) 2000's Kings of Comedy where he says lightheartedly "I'll put a hole in ya shirt, I'll wet-cha" referring to his interpretation of what some rap music sounds like to him. Granted, there are many rap songs that don't showcase black men, or the art form in the best light, and I'm sure some no name rapper with a lot of tattoos from whatever city you're from just popped into your mind. The same way every time Mr. Jones went into the kitchen, and Craig was in the kitchen eating up "all the chitlins... all the pig's feet... all the collard greens... all the hogmaws("Friday the movie"). Every time I turned on the tv their was negativity pointing directly towards black men it was Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Jordan Davis, Trayvon Martin( I don't think I need to keep going), not to mention whatever was going on locally is our news and what solidifies that perhaps, Black Lives Don't Matter so much. Now you might one of those All lives Matter endorsers, but inherently if All Lives mattered, would we even have to say Black lives Matter? I am inspired BET's "Black Girls Rock", and believe that there should be a counterpart for young black boys/men.("You can do anything you put your mind to, put your grind to") ~Young Jeezy There is so much for a 16 year black boy or a young man to counter in our unequal society. Because sometimes if you're black and you play your music too loud-you might get shot (Jordan Davis), if you're a kid and you go to a park where you think its safe for kids to play with a toy gun you probably got from Wal-Mart you might get shot (Tamir Rice), you walk home from the store-you might ...

The Beginner's Guide to Microphones by Brendan Krueger 5.0 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 14 hours ago

In the digital era, when most of the bulky hardware of early recording studios is considered unnecessary, the impact of the microphone is often overlooked by the amateur in the recording equation. Different microphones pick up different sounds at different volumes from different directions. This means that your choice of microphones can drastically alter the sound of a recording. For the musician and/or recording engineer who strives for quality, even for recording something as casual as a demo tape, a fundamental knowledge of how different microphones function and how to best use them is key for creating truly exceptional recordings. This book will teach the reader, who may know next to nothing about microphones, how to choose the proper microphone for any situation. The author, a music school graduate with over ten years of recording experience, explains simple and advanced ideas clearly and concisely enough for even a total novice recordist to understand without compromising the fundamental information presented. Topics covered include condenser, dynamic, and ribbon microphones, polar patterns, phasing and interference, mic placement for different instruments and situations, and sound insulating rooms. The reader will hopefully come away from this book with a fundamental knowledge of microphones that can be used and expanded upon throughout their musical and recording career.

Go Metro, Los Angeles! by Huzail Hassan Price verified 14 hours ago

Before you ask, yes, Los Angeles HAS transit options. But let me clarify it even further for you. The area has AMAZING transit options. However, not many would think that, believing the only way to survive in the city is to purchase a car. This is due to the massive freeway construction in the mid-1900s, plaguing the city since with false perceptions and traffic. Los Angeles got its start with connecting railroads. Then a man named Henry Huntington came around and sprouted suburbanization with the Pacific Electric. At its peak, it had over a thousand miles, which is even more than the current NYC subway system! However, due to foreseen circumstances, the system shut down in favor of freeway construction. But then it came back! Metro and Metrolink dominate any system in America with its relatively new infrastructure. However, ridership is quite low, which is why more need to discover this hidden gem in Los Angeles and its history, along with reasons why public transit is superior. This book isn't inclusive to Los Angeles, however. This book takes examples of stories from other cities in the world dealing with planning problems, doubling as reasons why public transit is the clear winner of the fight for more efficient lives. After immersing yourself in this perception changing book, you'll soon realize why more transit supporters are needed and how Los Angeles sets an example in transit.

High-Tech Trash: Glitch, Noise, and Aesthetic Failure (Rhetoric & Public Culture: History, Theory, Critique Book 1) by Carolyn L. Kane (University of California Press) Price verified one hour ago

?A free ebook version of this title will be available through Luminos, University of California Press' Open Access publishing program for monographs. Visit www.luminosoa.org to learn more. High-Tech Trash analyzes creative strategies in glitch, noise, and error to chart the development of an aesthetic paradigm rooted in failure. Carolyn L. Kane explores how technologically influenced creative practices, primarily from the second half of the twentieth and first quarter of the twenty-first centuries, critically offset a broader culture of pervasive risk and discontent. In so doing, she questions how we continue onward, striving to do better and acquire more, despite inevitable disappointment. High-Tech Trash speaks to a paradox in contemporary society in which failure is disavowed yet necessary for technological innovation.

MetroGreen: Connecting Open Space in North American Cities by Donna Erickson (Island Press) 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 14 hours ago

In metropolitan areas across the country, you can hear the laments over the loss of green space to new subdivisions and strip malls. But some city residents have taken unprecedented measures to protect their open land, and a growing movement seeks not only to preserve these lands but to link them in green corridors. Many land-use and urban planning professionals, along with landscape architects and environmental advocates, have joined in efforts to preserve natural areas. MetroGreen answers their call for a deeper exploration of the latest thinking and newest practices in this growing conservation field. In ten case studies of U.S. and Canadian cities paired for comparative analysis-Toronto and Chicago, Calgary and Denver, and Vancouver and Portland among them-Erickson looks closely at the motivations and objectives for connecting open spaces across metropolitan areas. She documents how open-space networks have been successfully created and protected, while also highlighting the critical human and ecological benefits of connectivity. MetroGreen's unique focus on several cities rather than a single urban area offers a perspective on the political, economic, cultural, and environmental conditions that affect open-space planning and the outcomes of its implementation.

Human Ecology: How Nature and Culture Shape Our World by Frederick R. Steiner (Island Press) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 14 hours ago

Humans have always been influenced by natural landscapes, and always will be -- even as we create ever-larger cities and our developments fundamentally change the nature of the earth around us. In Human Ecology, noted city planner and landscape architect Frederick Steiner encourages us to consider how human cultures have been shaped by natural forces, and how we might use this understanding to contribute to a future where both nature and people thrive. Human ecology is the study of the interrelationships between humans and their environment, drawing on diverse fields from biology and geography to sociology, engineering, and architecture. Steiner admirably synthesizes these perspectives through the lens of landscape architecture, a discipline that requires its practitioners to consciously connect humans and their environments. After laying out eight principles for understanding human ecology, the book's chapters build from the smallest scale of connection -- our homes -- and expand to community scales, regions, nations, and, ultimately, examine global relationships between people and nature. In this age of climate change, a new approach to planning and design is required to envision a livable future. Human Ecology provides architects, landscape architects, urban designers, and planners -- and students in those fields -- with timeless principles for new, creative thinking about how their work can shape a vibrant, resilient future for ourselves and our planet.

Community Character: Principles for Design and Planning by Lane H. Kendig (Island Press) 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 14 hours ago

Community Character provides a design-oriented system for planning and zoning communities but accounts for how people who participate in a community live, work, and shop there. The relationships that Lane Kendig defines here reflect the complexity of the interaction of the built environment with its social and economic uses, taking into account the diverse desires of municipalities and citizens. Among the many classifications for a community's "character" are its relationship to other communities, its size and the resulting social and economic characteristics. According to Kendig, most comprehensive plans and zoning regulations are based entirely on density and land use, neither of which effectively or consistently measures character or quality of development. As Kendig shows, there is a wide range of measures that define character and these vary with the type of character a community desires to create. Taking a much more comprehensive view, this book offers "community character" as a real-world framework for planning for communities of all kinds and sizes. A companion book, A Practical Guide to Planning with Community Character, provides a detailed explanation of applying community character in a comprehensive plan, with chapters on designing urban, sub-urban, and rural character types, using character in comprehensive plans, and strategies for addressing characteristic challenges of planning and zoning in the 21st century.

Sustainability and Cities: Overcoming Automobile Dependence by Peter Newman (Island Press) 3.3 Stars (7 Reviews)    Price verified 14 hours ago

Sustainability and Cities examines the urban aspect of sustainability issues, arguing that cities are a necessary focus for that global agenda. The authors make the case that the essential character of a city's land use results from how it manages its transportation, and that only by reducing our automobile dependence will we be able to successfully accommodate all elements of the sustainability agenda. The book begins with chapters that set forth the notion of sustainability and how it applies to cities and automobile dependence. The authors consider the changing urban economy in the information age, and describe the extent of automobile dependence worldwide. They provide an updated survey of global cities that examines a range of sustainability factors and indicators, and, using a series of case studies, demonstrate how cities around the world are overcoming the problem of automobile dependence. They also examine the connections among transportation and other issues -- including water use and cycling, waste management, and greening the urban landscape -- and explain how all elements of sustainability can be managed simultaneously. The authors end with a consideration of how professional planners can promote the sustainability agenda, and the ethical base needed to ensure that this critical set of issues is taken seriously in the world's cities. Sustainability and Cities will serve as a source of both learning and inspiration for those seeking to create more sustainable cities, and is an important book for practitioners, researchers, and students in the fields of planning, geography, and public policy.

Country Gold: A reunion romance (Wilder Sisters Book 1) by Heatherly Bell 4.6 Stars (34 Reviews)    Price verified 14 hours ago

"Luke's unwavering loyalty to Lexi and her family gives this sweet romance unexpected integrity... Readers looking for a tender romance that leans more toward the emotional than the physical will find this very satisfying." ~ Publishers Weekly "Country Gold is a chart topper! Heatherly Bell two-steps her new series onto the stage with a sweet but realistic love story. " ~ 4 stars, In'Dtale magazine A second chance... Luke never asked to trade fame and fortune for the only woman he's ever loved. Now that he's finished a punishing year-long national tour, all bets are off. He's coming back to his hometown of Whistle Cove for the quiet, the beaches, the inspiration, and the girl. Not necessarily in that order. Because whether Lexi Wilder knows it or not, she's coming back to Nashville with him where she belongs... "Country Gold is a chart topper! Heatherly Bell two-steps her new series onto the stage with a sweet but realistic love story. The juxtaposition between Lexi and Luke is unique, as she has spent most of her life on stage and his fame is almost a fluke. Lexi's burn-out is palpable, as if her heartbreak, dimming Luke's hopes of patching things up between them. You don't have to like country music to love this couple and their happily ever after. " ~ 4 stars, In'Dtale magazine, November 2018 issue "If you love Alphas, you will LOVE Luke." ~ Goodreads reader "Bell writes romance that will capture your heart." ~ Marina Adair, #1 National bestselling author of Summer in Napa "Bell's romances are the perfect escape." ~ Jamie Farrell, national bestselling author of The Officers Ex-Wives Club Romance fans will find all the usual meet-cutes and secluded moments that they know and love from the genre, mingled with an original emotional narrative on Scott's part. I would definitely recommend Unforgettable You to contemporary romance fans everywhere." ~ Readers' Favorite Book Reviews, 5 Stars on Unforgettable You

Ladakh: A Piece of Broken Moon Land: The Photography Book by Vasudevan M 4.7 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 10 hours ago

This book attempts to capture the beauty of 'Ladakh', a high altitude cold desert in the Himalayas, in pictures through my eyes, along with some facts. As we all aware, no photograph can truly do justice to this picturesque and breathtakingly beautiful land that stands unique from every place on this earth. However, I have tried to capture some frames in the hope that they would inspire people around the world to come and explore the paradise that is Ladakh. The journey to Leh, the capital of Ladakh, through the world's highest motarable roads is an experience that should not be missed by any road-tip enthusiast. So, let us start exploring Ladakh in pictures. In addition to this, there are also photographs captured in the other parts of Himalayas (i.e. Kashmir & Uttarakhand) included for you to get a glimpse of beauty of these places as well. I hope this will not only inspire you to travel but also help you to learn about these places, people, and their culture.

Rag Doll by Rebecca Scarberry 3.6 Stars (78 Reviews)    Price verified 14 hours ago

Rag Doll is a short but very impressive story about a young father finding himself trapped in evidence against him and quite possibly framed for the murder of his girlfriend. A story that starts with blood and gore, part psychological thriller, and part reflection by our protagonist on his life in prison. This is a cleverly plotted story and intriguingly told as it unfolds in front of your eyes. In order to understand the twisted ending, readers must not skip a word.

Frame by Frame: A Materialist Aesthetics of Animated Cartoons by Hannah Frank (University of California Press) Price verified 14 hours ago

At publication date, a free ebook version of this title will be available through Luminos, University of California Press's Open Access publishing program. Visit www.luminosoa.org to learn more. In this beautifully written and deeply researched study, Hannah Frank provides an original way to understand American animated cartoons from the Golden Age of animation (1920-1960). In the pre-digital age of the twentieth century, the making of cartoons was mechanized and standardized: thousands of drawings were inked and painted onto individual transparent celluloid sheets (called "cels") and then photographed in succession, a labor-intensive process that was divided across scores of artists and technicians. In order to see the art, labor, and technology of cel animation, Frank slows cartoons down to look frame by frame, finding hitherto unseen aspects of the animated image. What emerges is both a methodology and a highly original account of an art formed on the assembly line.

New York State of Mind 1.0 (Behind the Music Tales Book 7) by Harris Rosen (Peace! Carving) Price verified 10 hours ago

A fascinating genuine narrative formed in the crucible of Golden Age Hip-Hop mindfulness. New York State of Mind 1.0 is the complimentary introduction to the Behind the Music Tales series. EXCLUSIVE uncensored 1992 & 1993 Tragedy Khadafi, Brand Nubian, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth interviews! "This guy! I plead the fifth. This guy is nuts." - Eminem "Dope questions, man. Very insightful, very thoughtful." - GURU "For decades Harris Rosen has been asking fearless questions of Hip-Hop's biggest names." - Ben Westhoff, Author of Original Gangstas: The Untold Story of Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Tupac Shakur, and the Birth of West Coast Gangster Rap "You didn't wear your glasses and you haven't carried your hearing aid. What else is wrong with you?" - Bushwick Bill "Harris Rosen is at the forefront of Hip-Hop journalists; bright, articulate and totally fearless." - Jerry Heller Behind the Music Tales is a series which captures the mood and feel of the energy that surged through music in the 90s and 2000s. It presents exclusive original interviews as an honest record, directly from authentic creative forces, and is a distinct historical document as close to the truth as one can get. New York State of Mind 1.0, the 7th book in the series, provides you with a true flavour of the personalities, in all their raw forms, who breathed life into the streets of the city, taking the music to new heights and in completely new directions. Tragedy Khadafi is as real as it gets. Through impressive MC skills and a formidable street reputation he lived the life of a true hoodlum, surviving gunshot wounds, stabbings and broken bones. The strong lyrical message of Brand Nubian reflects on the group's identity as Five Percenters and the philosophy of the Nation of Gods and Earth, while Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth arrived on the scene in the midst of a Hip-Hop impasse of sorts. New York State of Mind 1.0 is a candid look deep inside the psyche of each individual and an ...

Building Green: Environmental Architects and the Struggle for Sustainability in Mumbai by Anne Rademacher (University of California Press) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 14 hours ago

A free ebook version of this title is available through Luminos, University of California Press's Open Access publishing program. Visit www.luminosoa.org to learn more. Building Green explores the experience of environmental architects in Mumbai, one of the world's most populous and population-dense urban areas and a city iconic for its massive informal settlements, extreme wealth asymmetries, and ecological stresses. Under these conditions, what does it mean to learn, and try to practice, so-called green design? By tracing the training and professional experiences of environmental architects in India's first graduate degree program in Environmental Architecture, Rademacher shows how environmental architects forged sustainability concepts and practices and sought to make them meaningful through engaged architectural practice. The book's focus on practitioners offers insights into the many roles that converge to produce this emergent, critically important form of urban expertise. At once activists, scientists, and designers, the environmental architects profiled in Building Green act as key agents of urban change whose efforts in practice are shaped by a complex urban development economy, layered political power relations, and a calculus of when, and how, their expert skills might be operationalized in service of a global urban future.

Risen Light Nature Photography of Wildlife & Bugs by Christopher Shea 3.2 Stars (16 Reviews)    Price verified 14 hours ago

Over the years I have held a certain vision for the look and feel of my photography. I want it to have a soft warm look, balanced with a contrast of highlights and shadows. The soft warm light I am looking for can be seen very early in the morning as the sun is just beginning to rise. To accomplish this, I stay away from artificial flash and use natural light. Many of my pictures are not what you would see in nature and wildlife magazines. This is because they are just a little on the artistic side and slightly away from the technical, brightly lit photography that you see in some magazines and reference books. The best way to accomplish this warm look is to shoot just as the morning sun is breaking over the horizon. There is a very small window of morning light that gives everything that soft warm look and feel. This can make it very difficult to photograph wildlife. It took me several months to get pictures of wood ducks because they kept arriving to the pond after that small window of time. But eventually my patience paid off and I got the shot. That is one of the reasons our books are titled "Risen Light." The other reason for the title is that through my photography, Donna's writing, and our lives, we give honor, praise, and glory to Jesus, the true Risen Light. The photographs are accompanied by scripture from the Bible. We did this because the Bible contains the very words of life, and that alone is more important than anything in this world. If the scriptures we have selected can help you to understand, just a little bit, who God is and the love that he has for us, then Donna and I have accomplished our purpose. These books are one of the ways we share the word of God with those who are looking. As you turn each page and view the pictures and read the words, I hope that you will get a glimpse of the natural beauty of creation that has captivated us. God has put everything together in just such a way that when we see nature, we just know there is a ...

Risen Light Nature Photography & Devotional by Christopher Shea 3.7 Stars (13 Reviews)    Price verified 15 minutes ago

This is the type of book that you will want to share with your loved ones. It will appeal to an audience of both nature enthusiasts and also anyone looking for a Christian devotional. The beauty of the pictures and the heartfelt devotions will inspire you to search your heart for a Love that will shine like the Risen Light. Donna has written about how God has always been faithful to give her direction and comfort through the many trials of her life. As you read her heartfelt devotions, her thoughts will help you to reflect on your own relationship with God. In person she presents a very shy and kind disposition. Her close relationship with God allows her writing to come out in a bold, honest, and considerately loving manner. Through the trials, she has turned to God to find the grace, peace, comfort, and direction that He promises to all who seek Him. Though extremely painful, each situation has brought her even closer to Him and left her with a joy and peace that passes normal understanding. Donna realizes that He will do the same for all who turn to Him, and she shares that message through her devotions. Let the Peace that she has found speak to you through the devotions that she has written. Over the years I have held a certain vision for the look and feel of my photography. I want it to have a soft warm look, balanced with a contrast of highlights and shadows.
