Miranda Schaffer just wants a little freedom for the start of college. Having convinced her parents to let her live in the house left to them by her great-aunt Janine, she's excited. That is, until her classmate, Cole, tries to convince her that the house is one of the tools needed by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to raise Hell.
Cole identifies himself as a Guardian, whose sole purpose in life is to prevent the gateway to Hell -- supposedly Miranda's basement -- from falling into the wrong hands. Miranda brushes off his concerns, thinking he's crazy.
On top of that, the cute real estate agent interested in the house is, according to Cole, one of the Four Horsemen, and she should stay away from him at all costs. That's easier said than done when she can't get him out of her head.
Will her indecision leave her with Hell to pay?
This book had me gripped from the first page and had me swooning after both main characters. Thila was a strong, beautiful and educated woman - something that is often missing in many romance novels, in favour of the secretary-and-the-boss type relationship. The fact that Thila was interested in more than just romance and that she had her own career and goals was gripping to me and I could see myself liking her more and more as the story progressed. Arnav was a character I really liked reading about. As Thila is used to being the boss, I liked that Arnav took control of situations, but also knew when to back down. He was definitely a swoon-worthy main character and I would love to read more about both characters.
There were a couple of parts within the story that were raunchy and steamy, so if you don't like those aspects then this book may not be for you.
A dream-come-true-wedding in Vegas with a quickie living-in-the-real-world-divorce in Reno would solve Thila's ...

In processing the murder scene, Arkin thinks he recognizes the modus operandi of a shadowy group he pursued and was on the verge of exposing years earlier, just before his abrupt fall from grace and exile from Washington, D.C. Rumored to be run by a self-righteous, lapsed Jesuit priest, it was a group Arkin long suspected of orchestrating an international assassination campaign targeting charismatic, fledgling fanatics -- future Hitlers and bin Ladens -- just as they emerged from obscurity, before they were capable of instigating mass murder. Reluctant, but aching for redemption, Arkin resumes the chase, setting in motion a chain of events that could lead to his salvation -- or his doom. Along ...

Drawing on narratological and feminist theory, Susan Sniader Lanser explores patterns of narration in a wide range of novels by women of England, France, and the United States from the 1740s to the present. She sheds light on the history of "voice" as a narrative strategy and as a means of attaining social power. She considers the dynamics in personal voice in authors such as Mary Shelley, Charlotte Brontë, Zora Neale Hurston, and Jamaica Kincaid. In writers who attempt a "communal voice" -- including Mary Wollstonecraft, Elizabeth Gaskell, Joan Chase, and Monique Wittig -- she finds innovative strategies that challenge the conventions of Western narrative.

Red flags are soon raised as suspicious inconsistencies and errors in the original detective's investigation come to light. Now retired, this ex-cop has powerful friends in the force and a long-standing dislike of Cross.

In Gender and Genre in the Folklore of Middle India, Joyce Burkhalter Flueckiger analyzes six representative Indian folklore genres from a single regional repertoire to show the influence of their intertextual relations on the composition and interpretation of artistic performance. Placing special emphasis on women's rituals, she looks at the relationship between the framework and organization of indigenous genres and the reception of folklore performance. The regional repertoire under examination presents a strikingly female-centered world. Female performers and characters are active, articulate, and frequently challenge or defy expectations of gender. Men also confound traditional gender roles. Flueckiger includes the translations of two full performance texts of narratives sung by female and male storytellers respectively.
