Lance Vaughn knows what it's like growing up an only child in the 1960's, with a single mother, on the beautiful northern California coast, in the quaint town of Breakers Point. Living in a small cul-de-sac, with only one other house, which has been vacant for some time, is every kid's dream. Throw in a giant golden retriever, Brodie, to run with on your private beach and things couldn't get any better. Until one day, there's another family moving in across the street who also have an only child the same age, Aiden. As Lance and Aiden grow up together, they quickly become virtually inseparable, spending much of their time on their private beach, hanging out at "The Bench." But as all kids do, they grow up. After home schooling ends, and high school begins, Lance and Aiden's lives head in different directions. Lance, a talented writer, and Aiden, the up and coming football player. As Lance's writing career begins to take-off, Aiden's world appears to be slowly collapsing. Alcohol, drugs, and constant partying are beginning to take their toll on Aiden. Soon Lance and Aiden, once long time friends, begin struggling in an attempt to recover what they once had as friends. Soon all communication is ceased.Lance's void, with the loss of his best friend, is short lived, when he meets Wendy, the new neighbor, and her possessive aunt, Petrice. Lance and Wendy quickly fall for one another and begin dating. Their relationship soon develops into much more. There are two types of friendships, one's that are easily kept, and last forever, and the one's that require work to keep together. Sometimes the latter requires time, something that not everyone has.Mend fences, while there are still fences to mend.
