IN A HURRICANE OF VIOLENCE: Fleeing the Storm of Domestic Abuse by Nika Smith 4.0 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

A true story of one mother's desperate journey to save her children and herself from a brutal abuser and a corrupt system. The average life of two young boys quickly turns into a nightmare at the hands of their father. Their mother -- isolated, abused, and debased by her husband -- begins a long and difficult journey to escape the storm of violence and manipulation. Their escape is fraught with peril and includes both real-life villains and true heroes. Eventually, they flee their formerly communistic country for England, and it is there that they truly begin to experience freedom and safety. In a Hurricane of Violence is part memoir and part self-help book. Whether readers are caught in their own storms of violence or want to help someone else escape abuse or simply want to understand the mechanism of domestic violence, this book is for everyone. The story of Nika and her children unfolds in a dramatic, heart-wrenching tale that one wishes was fiction, but the underlying strength of this small family will pull the reader from the darkest moments. After each chapter, a retrospective is included to help readers understand how domestic violence ensnares its victims and how to find the path to true freedom and recovery.

Forest management has evolved from a mercantilist view to a multi-functional one that integrates economic, social, and ecological aspects. However, the issue of sustainability is not yet resolved. Quantitative Techniques in Participatory Forest Management brings together global research in three areas of application: inventory of the forest variables that determine the main environmental indices, description and design of new environmental indices, and the application of sustainability indices for regional implementations. All these quantitative techniques create the basis for the development of scientific methodologies of participatory sustainable forest management.

Bel-Ami & Other Stories: Including A Life, Pierre and Jean, Strong as Death, Mont Oriol, Notre Cœur (From one of the greatest French writers who had ... by Guy de Maupassant (Musaicum Books) Price verified 10 hours ago

Bel Ami (The History of a Scoundrel): The story chronicles journalist Georges Duroy's corrupt rise to power from a poor ex-NCO to one of the most successful men in Paris, most of which he achieves by manipulating a series of powerful, intelligent, and wealthy mistresses. The novel is set in Paris in the upper-middle class environment of the leading journalists of the newspaper La Vie Française and their friends. Pierre et Jean - is a naturalist or psycho-realist story, notably so by the subjects on which it treats, including knowledge of one's heredity (whether one is a legitimate son or a bastard), the bourgeoisie, and the problems stemming from money. Notre Coeur (A Woman's Pastime): The novel tells the story of a woman without a heart, frigid and probably a lesbian. The hero, facing this fascinating and awesome being, takes another mistress, who can hardly satisfy him. He is devastated by this passionate love, violent, melancholic and cruel. A Life is a satirical novel about the folly of romantic illusion. The novel tells the story of young Jeanne, full of hope and dreams of love, who discovers the outside world after finishing an education in a convent. She is looking forward to her new life and she is dreaming of the day when she will find the man who loves her. All her expectations are fulfilled, however... Mont Oriol Strong as Death. Guy de Maupassant was a French writer, remembered as a master of the short story form, and as a representative of the naturalist school of writers.

B COIN: The Architects by Kaiser Hugan 4.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 18 hours ago

Is the CIA/NSA truly behind the creation of Blockchain and Bitcoin? This is a question a reader may ask after reading this book. Through stories, this book lets the readers learn concepts and technologies of computers, networking and data security at leisure while being entertained. With intrigues, mysteries, and at times thrills, the vernacular narratives lead the reader's journey through some modern warfare of cyber intelligence and counterintelligence, myths and mires of computer technologies, and industry hypes -- Blockchain and cryptocurrencies in particular. After finding his brother's murder on the streets of Ottawa, freelance investigative journalist Sylvie LeBlanc, partnered with his brother's former colleague Kyle Huffman, tore into finding the cause of the murder. They unknowingly walked into an inextricable entanglement with a stranger thousands of miles away, an architect and an unorthodox specialist of counterintelligence. They were racing with invisible forces to find the secrets unearthed and left behind by Vincent LeBlanc. The powerful invisible forces would stop at nothing to cover up their dark ties with Bitcoin. UNDERDOG THINKING: A Bold Idea, a Business Adventure and 101 Lessons Learned Along the Way by Atul Vir 4.5 Stars (22 Reviews)    Price verified 12 hours ago

Underdog Thinking is real-life business adventure story that follows the journey of an Indian Immigrant to the U.S. who was told he "didn't know a damn thing about American business." But as opportunity would have it, a short time later he found himself an accidental entrepreneur with a front row ticket to the ins and outs of launching and growing a business. He was flying high on his growing success -- until a fateful moment when everything changed. As businesses rise and fall to the tune of supply and demand, sometimes the harshest betrayals come out of nowhere, when you least expect it -- as do the surprising sparks of hope. When an unforeseen circumstance initiates a chain of events that leave him at a crossroads he must make the tough call: to give in and give up, or push through and win. CEO, business ethics thought leader, speaker and author Atul Vir has lived that story. And even in the darkest moments when failure seemed most imminent, he drew on the work ethic instilled from his earliest days, and his commitment to do right by his customers -- to bring his dream up from the ashes and back to life. In his new book, Underdog Thinking, Vir inspires readers to face any challenge that comes their way -- with practical business lessons for every step of the journey gleaned from his experience as both an immigrant building a business and as CEO of Equator Appliances for more than 25 years. The book dives into current themes dominating the business landscape, including: global business, overcoming failure, bootstrapping, securing financing, immigration and what innovation truly means. While many people offer sage advice on these topics, Vir's lessons are paired with a unique, captivating story and more than two decades of entrepreneurial expertise in an industry dominated by much bigger players -- major multinational corporations.

Mussolini and the British: A Closer Look at the Relationship Between Italy and Britain by Richard Lamb (Lume Books) 4.6 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 21 hours ago

Initially, Mussolini disliked Hitler and despised his anti-semitism. This revisionist account of Mussolini's relations with Britain shows that, apart from his atrocious bombardment of Corfu in 1923, Mussolini aligned his foreign policy with that of Britain until the Abyssinian crisis of 1935. However, once the British Cabinet felt obliged to take a lead in economic sanctions against Italy, Mussolini, surprised and antagonized, halted his efforts to stop German remilitarization and aligned Italy with the Nazis. Drawing on a wide range of British and Italian sources, including captured documents of Mussolini himself, and new research into the influence of Margherita Sarfatti, the Jewish intellectual who was for several years Mussolini's mistress, Mussolini and the British casts an interesting new light on British diplomatic handling of the threat of war. Praise for Richard Lamb: 'Full of revealing and important information' - Daily Telegraph 'A notable contribution... judicious, detailed and scrupulously fair, as might be expected from one of Britain's most respected military writers' - New York Times 'All historians will be deeply in his debt... he has established a unique reputation as a scholarly and independent historian with little respect for conventional wisdom' - The Times Richard Lamb was a journalist, broadcaster, soldier and writer.

The Other Side of the Moon: The Life of David Niven by Sheridan Morley (Dean Street Press) 4.2 Stars (104 Reviews)    Price verified 22 hours ago

'A highly readable work... Niven emerges as gallant and gracious.' Chicago Tribune Sheridan Morley wrote this biography of the consummate on-screen English gentleman after speaking to over 150 of Niven's friends and colleagues (only Rex Harrison refused). The result is a picture which both supports and contradicts the charming vagabond persona depicted in Niven's own bestselling memoirs. While millions throughout his life were enchanted by Niven's happy-go-lucky charisma and world-class anecdotage, he was in many respects a private figure, haunted by a fear of failure, and a victim of several key tragedies in his personal life. Morley's biography is a warm, appreciative but perceptive account which captures both sides of one of Hollywood's most enduringly lovable figures. 'A compassionate account that goes past the blithe persona... yet, there is much humor -- the actor's and his biographer's -- in this notable book' Publishers Weekly 'Head and shoulders above the average showbiz biography... He understands many of Niven's deeper feelings' John Mortimer, Sunday Times 'A well-told story... the darker side as well as the mask of a complex and perhaps desperate character. He was a life-enhancer off-screen as well as on' The Times 'Shrewd and pleasing; shows how dark Niven's moon could be' Alexander Walker, Evening Standard

Cystic Fibrosis & the Brewer's Yeast: A Microbiology Tale by David Wooster 3.8 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 12 hours ago

Ben Ketchum is an assistant professor at a small college in Montana with just one year left to secure his tenure or he's going to be out of a job, this at a time when there are already alarming cutbacks going on in science due to Hurricane Katrina and the Iraq War. And as if to complicate his life further, the all important anthrax grant Ben was counting on didn't come through so now he's forced to begin a new project, this one involving a different type of microbe than what he's used to: the brewer's yeast. To learn all he can about the yeast, Ben takes two weeks off and travels first to exotic Egypt where he discovers the yeast's role in building this once-great civilization, including brewing beer, making wine, raising bread as well as the pyramids. He then travels to Germany, a more recent example of a beer culture, where he uncovers the yeast's influence in Western civilization including his own country. Ben's day-to-day concerns with being a mentor, teacher, and scientist while at the same time having to secure his tenure, is a unifying theme. Each story is woven together with interesting facts about ancient history & science so as to give the reader an appreciation for not only what it's like to run a modern research laboratory, but also how our everyday world has been shaped by unseen microbes, often for thousands of years. For example, Ben's search for the brewer's yeast leads him to uncover details about the Bubonic plague & beer steins, wine amphora, Hitler, beer halls, the Lewis & Clark Expedition, whiskey, pretzels, pasteurization and Egyptian mummies. He also teams up with two eccentric microbiologists and develops a love interest while in Egypt: the beautiful young medical doctor Tahany Hassan. This novel is based on a true story... inspired by the author's experiences in graduate school and as a scientist at Children's Hospital Los Angeles California. In this novel you'll also discover diverse facts about: cystic fibrosis & cholera, ...

Nietzsche: The Will to Power: Including Autobiographical Work "Ecce Homo" & Personal Letters by Friedrich Nietzsche (Musaicum Books) Price verified 23 hours ago

"The Will to Power (Vol.1&2)" describes what Nietzsche may have believed to be the main driving force in humans - achievement, ambition, and the striving to reach the highest possible position in life. These are all manifestations of the will to power; however, the concept was never systematically defined in Nietzsche's work, leaving its interpretation open to debate. "Ecce Homo: How One Becomes What One Is" is the last book written by Nietzsche before his final years of insanity that lasted until his death in 1900. According to Walter Kaufmann, Nietzsche's most prominent English translators, the book offers "Nietzsche's own interpretation of his development, his works, and his significance." "Selected Letters" includes various personal letters by Nietzsche to his family and friends. Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) was a German philosopher, poet, and Latin and Greek scholar whose work has exerted a profound influence on Western philosophy and modern intellectual history. Because of Nietzsche's evocative style and provocative ideas, his philosophy generates passionate reactions. His works remain controversial, due to varying interpretations and misinterpretations of his work. In the Western philosophy tradition, Nietzsche's writings have been described as the unique case of free revolutionary thought, that is, revolutionary in its structure and problems, although not tied to any revolutionary project.

The David Hume Collection by David Hume (Steppenwolf Press) 3.5 Stars (13 Reviews)    Price verified 12 hours ago

David Hume was a Scottish Enlightenment philosopher, historian, economist, and essayist, who is best known today for his highly influential system of philosophical empiricism, scepticism, and naturalism. Hume's empiricist approach to philosophy places him with John Locke, George Berkeley, Francis Bacon and Thomas Hobbes as a British Empiricist. Beginning with his A Treatise of Human Nature (1738), Hume strove to create a total naturalistic science of man that examined the psychological basis of human nature. Against philosophical rationalists, Hume held that passion rather than reason governs human behaviour. Hume argued against the existence of innate ideas, positing that all human knowledge is founded solely in experience. Hume influenced utilitarianism, logical positivism, Immanuel Kant, the philosophy of science, early analytic philosophy, cognitive science, theology, and other movements and thinkers. Kant himself credited Hume as the spur to his philosophical thought who had awakened him from his "dogmatic slumbers". The David Hume Collection by Steppenwolf Press brings together the writings of one of the greatest philosophers the world has ever known, featuring: A Kind of History of My Life A Treatise of Human Nature An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals The History of England The Natural History of Religion My Own Life Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion Essays and Personal Correspondence

Cruel World by Albert Ball 3.9 Stars (7 Reviews)    Price verified 17 hours ago

What kind of world have we created? Increasing numbers of us live in fear of losing our homes and jobs, many forced to rely on the charity of food banks to feed ourselves and our children. Many of us live on the streets in utter destitution, often with mental health problems, and no-one seems to care. Many more of us live in poor countries where for want of clean water and basic sanitation we must watch helplessly as our children and infants die in their millions every year. At the other end of the scale some of us have wealth that can't be consumed in a thousand lifetimes. Then there are the environmental dangers that we all face - scarcity of fresh water; widespread pollution of the air, sea and rivers; deforestation; loss of biodiversity; and above all climate change - and our governments, severely handicapped by those of us with vested interests, unable to take the decisive action that is necessary to combat them. Why is it that the world's abundant wealth is spread so lavishly for the very few and so thinly for the very many? Why is it that we understand so well the dire consequences awaiting us from environmental catastrophe yet seem unable to do more than a fraction of what is required? This book presents the results of an exploration into these concerns by someone who feels deeply disturbed by them; who feels that people in great numbers are being squeezed beyond breaking point; who feels that we are racing headlong towards a cliff edge with people who claim to be in control but whose hands are tied. The exploration bore fruit. It revealed that the major systems that underpin the modern world maintain themselves by widespread exploitation of the disadvantaged, made possible by equally widespread ignorance of how it happens. It doesn't have to be that way. We can turn a world on a collision course with nature into a world sustainable for the very long term. We can turn a cruel world into a kind world, but to do so requires a broad public understanding of ...

The Complete Works of Charlotte Brontë: Jane Eyre, Shirley, Villette, The Professor, Emma (unfinished), Tales of Angria, Mina Laury, Stancliffe's ... by Charlotte Brontë (Musaicum Books) Price verified 8 hours ago

Tales of Angria (Mina Laury, Stancliffe's Hotel) + Angria and the Angrians: Charlotte Bronte, together with her brother Branwell, created the imaginary kingdom of Angria in 1834. She was to write several Angria tales for the next five years. The Tales of Angria offer an ironic portrait of the intrigues, scandals, and passions. The stories provide a fascinating glimpse into the mind and creative processes of the young writer who was to become one of the world's greatest novelists. The Story of Willie Ellin: This unfinished fragment contains the poignant story of an abused child. Albion and Marina: A romance about star-crossed lovers, Albion and Marina is a trial run by 14-year-old Charlotte Bronte for Jane Eyre. Tales of the Islanders: The four volumes of tales collected here make delightful reading, while offering a unique insight into Brontë family life and Charlotte's development as a writer: these are the stories she and her siblings imagined for their magic island kingdom. The stories are charmingly written in a very fairytale-esque style. They are written by a child and therefore are sometimes hard to follow when the stories make big turns, which force the reader to read them slowly and devour each sentence. The Green Dwarf: Lady Emily Charlesworth is in love with Leslie, a struggling artist. Lord Percy, a fierce, arrogant aristocrat, will do anything to lay his hands on Leslie's chosen bride. With its exotic melange of political intrigue, amorous subterfuge, and Gothic scenery, The Green Dwarf reveals the dynamic and experimental nature of Brontë's writing. Charlotte Brontë is best remembered for her perennially popular novel Jane Eyre.

The Greatest Works of William Blake (With Complete Original Illustrations): Including The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, Jerusalem, Songs of Innocence ... by William Blake (Musaicum Books) Price verified 9 hours ago

Taking his inspiration from the illuminated manuscripts of the middle ages, Blake invented the process of creating Illuminated Books. Between 1788 and early 1795 Blake published a series of fifteen Illuminated Books. He returned to creating Illuminated Books in 1804 when he began work on Milton (finished in 1808 or later) and Jerusalem. Blake committed himself in the minute particulars of producing his Illuminated Books. The process included creating a mental image, drawing, composing the design and poetry of the plate, engraving, printing, painting, compiling and selling. From inception to final production the color copy of Jerusalem was labored over for sixteen years. William Blake (1757 - 1827) was a British poet, painter, visionary mystic, and engraver, who illustrated and printed his own books. Blake proclaimed the supremacy of the imagination over the rationalism and materialism of the 18th-century. Largely unrecognised during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of both the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age.

The Art of DSP: An innovative introduction to DSP by Chris Bore (BORES Signal Processing) 3.7 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 12 hours ago

This book is about DSP - Digital Signal Processing. DSP used to be a specialist subject but now most engineers and scientists - and many in other fields such as finance - will use it at some time. Signals are used everywhere and almost all processing is now digital, so knowing about DSP is essential. DSP is often presented mathematically as an academic subject: but in practice you are not usually asked to derive or prove the mathematical tools, but to apply them. You need to understand what the tools do, their limitations, and how to use them. DSP is an art: the expression of human creativity and imagination applied to design and to apply tools that shape the world in ways that are themselves works of art. The tools of this art are mathematics, analysis and programming. This eBook focuses on "The Art of DSP": learning the tools with understanding and intuition; using them with skill and ingenuity; applying them with imagination and creativity; and crafting with them in a careful, diligent way that is informed by practical reality. This is not a text book or a reference. Nor does it teach programming or the maths of DSP. Its aim is to give you a basic and intuitive understanding that will inform your application of the tools, not to provide you with answers to exam questions. This eBook - written specifically for the Amazon Kindle - is meant to be read as you would a novel: starting at the beginning, reading through in sequence, following the narrative. Not stopping to make notes, nor working through exercises or assignments, just reading it for enjoyment and to gain a first understanding of the subject.

The Three Critiques: The Critique of Pure Reason, Practical Reason and Judgment (Complete Edition): The Base Plan for Transcendental Philosophy, The ... by Immanuel Kant (Musaicum Books) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 16 hours ago

The Critique of Pure Reason is one of the most influential works in the history of philosophy. Kant here explains what he means by a critique of pure reason: "I do not mean by this a critique of books and systems, but of the faculty of reason in general, in respect of all knowledge after which it may strive independently of all experience." The Critique of Practical Reason is the second of Immanuel Kant's three critiques and it deals with his moral philosophy. The second Critique exercised a decisive influence over the subsequent development of the field of ethics and moral philosophy, beginning with Johann Gottlieb Fichte's Doctrine of Science. The Critique of Judgment, also translated as the Critique of the Power of Judgment completes the Critical project begun in the Critique of Pure Reason. The book is divided into two main sections: the Critique of Aesthetic Judgment and the Critique of Teleological Judgment, and also includes a large overview of the entirety of Kant's Critical system, arranged in its final form. Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) was a German philosopher, who, according to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy is "the central figure of modern philosophy." Kant argued that fundamental concepts of the human mind structure human experience, that reason is the source of morality, that aesthetics arises from a faculty of disinterested judgment, that space and time are forms of our understanding, and that the world as it is "in-itself" is unknowable.

The Mathematical Works of Lewis Carroll: Symbolic Logic, The Game of Logic & Feeding the Mind by Lewis Carroll (Musaicum Books) Price verified 19 hours ago

Lewis Carroll wrote several mathematics books. He was mainly interested in using logic diagrams as a pedagogical tool. Symbolic Logic, first published in 1896, contains literally dozens of puzzles. He believed heartily that children would enjoy learning mathematics if they could be enticed by amusing stories and puzzles. The Game of Logic, published in 1897, was intended to teach logic to children. His "game" consisted of a card with two diagrams, together with a set of counters, five grey and four red. The two diagrams were Carroll's version of a two-set and a three-set Venn diagram. A manuscript of a brief lecture Lewis Carroll once gave, Feeding the Mind, discusses the importance of not only feeding the body, but also the mind. Carroll wittily puts forth connections between the diet of the body and mind, and gives helpful tips on how to best digest knowledge in the brain. This essay was originally printed in 1907. Lewis Carroll ((1832-1898) is best known as the author of Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass. His real name was Charles Dodgson. His father, the Reverend Charles Dodgson, instilled in his son a love of mathematics from an early age. Lewis studied at Oxford, and later taught there as a Mathematics Lecturer.

Barchester Towers concerns the leading clergy of the cathedral city of Barchester. The much loved bishop having died, all expectations are that his son, Archdeacon Grantly, will succeed him. Instead, owing to the passage of the power of patronage to a new Prime Minister, a newcomer, the far more Evangelical Bishop Proudie, gains the see. His wife, Mrs Proudie, exercises an undue influence over the new bishop, making herself as well as the bishop unpopular with most of the clergy of the diocese. Her interference to veto the reappointment of the universally popular Mr Septimus Harding (protagonist of Trollope's earlier novel, The Warden) as warden of Hiram's Hospital is not well received, even though she gives the position to a needy clergyman, Mr Quiverful, with 14 children to support. Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) was one of the most successful, prolific and respected English novelists of the Victorian era. Some of his best-loved works, collectively known as the Chronicles of Barsetshire, revolve around the imaginary county of Barsetshire. He also wrote perceptive novels on political, social, and gender issues, and on other topical matters. Trollope's literary reputation dipped somewhat during the last years of his life, but he regained the esteem of critics by the mid-twentieth century.

Walden, Slavery in Massachusetts & Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau (Musaicum Books) 4.3 Stars (2,487 Reviews)    Price verified 15 hours ago

"Walden" is a book written by Henry David Thoreau. The work is part personal declaration of independence, social experiment, voyage of spiritual discovery, satire, and manual for self-reliance. First published in 1854, it details Thoreau's experiences over the course of two years, two months, and two days in a cabin he built near Walden Pond, amidst woodland near Concord, Massachusetts. The book compresses the time into a single calendar year and uses passages of four seasons to symbolize human development. Civil Disobedience (Resistance to Civil Government) is an essay that was first published in 1849. In it, Thoreau argues that individuals should not permit governments to overrule or atrophy their consciences, and that they have a duty to avoid allowing such acquiescence to enable the government to make them the agents of injustice. Thoreau was motivated in part by his disgust with slavery and the Mexican-American War. Slavery in Massachusetts" is an 1854 essay based on a speech he gave at an anti-slavery rally at Framingham, Massachusetts, on July 4, 1854, after the re-enslavement in Boston, Massachusetts of fugitive slave Anthony Burns. Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862) was an American author, poet, philosopher, abolitionist, historian and leading transcendentalist. He is best known for his book Walden, a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings, and his essay Resistance to Civil Government (also known as Civil Disobedience), an argument for disobedience to an unjust state.

FACEBOOK MARKETING FOR BUSINESS 2020 & ONLINE STRATEGIES: Bootcamp for Beginners & Experts to Exploit Social Media from Home with Skilled Advertising ... by Christopher Allan Levy 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 17 hours ago

Do you want to sharply distinguish your brand, your product, or anything you have to present to a market, from the online crowd of competitors with high-performing Facebook and Google marketing and advertising strategies (and not only, because there is also Twitter, LinkedIn, automatic emails, Podcasts, TikTok, and much more)? If yes, then keep reading... Here's the deal. You have to bring your business online because you understood that through Facebook Advertising you can target and present your offers directly to those who may be potentially interested in buying (saving a lot of time), but what is the best strategy to make Facebook Ads avoiding the high probability of losing huge amounts of money? Some interesting facts: on Facebook, more than 60% of advertisers allocate badly their budget ending up losing money, while, on Google, the percentage exceeds 70%. The reason is very simple: Facebook and Google aren't non-profit companies, but realities that must make profits. And to confuse the less experienced advertisers, they simply present them dozens and dozens of possibilities, when, instead, the most suitable and profitable campaigns are only 2-3 (hint: they are not free). This big book was born exactly for this purpose: to make you IMMUNE from the possibility of needlessly losing money and, let me say it, at a truly negligible cost compared to the high scope of the information contained inside. This book covers the following topics: • PART ONE: FACEBOOK MARKETING FOR BUSINESS 2020 • What is a Facebook chatbot and how to create it? • Set up your Facebook business manager and your Facebook Ad account • Why likes and followers are completely useless in selling a lot? • Remarketing VS Retargeting • The 3-steps most profitable Facebook Ads strategy of all time (this strategy is perfect not only for those who already have their products to sell, but also for those who sell, or want to sell, third-party products, for example, affiliate ...

The Complete Plays of Robert Browning: Paracelsus, Stafford, Herakles, The Agamemnon of Aeschylus, Bells and Pomegranates, Pippa Passes, King Victor ... by Robert Browning (Musaicum Books) 1.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified one day ago

Pippa Passes is a verse drama, which was dedicated to Thomas Noon Talfourd, who had recently attained fame as the author of the tragedy Ion. The author described the work as "the first of a series of dramatic pieces." King Victor and King Charles was the second play written by Robert Browning for the stage. The subject of the play is the strange incident in 1730-32 in the Kingdom of Sardinia in which the elderly king, Victor Amadeus II, first abdicated in favour of his son Charles Emmanuel III, and then after months of ever-increasing complaints unexpectedly demanded to be restored. He was imprisoned until his death a year later. Browning's treatment is based on 18th century sources which cast Victor as deliberately deceptive, but he goes further to create a secret history in which Charles is exonerated from all charges of cruelty. The play is in four acts and has only four main characters: Victor, Charles, Charles's wife Polyxena, and the minister D'Ormea. Contents: Introduction: Robert Browning by G. K. Chesterton Plays: Paracelsus Strafford Bells and Pomegranates No. I: Pippa Passes Bells and Pomegranates No. II: King Victor and King Charles Bells and Pomegranates No. IV: The Return of the Druses Bells and Pomegranates No. V: A Blot in the 'scutcheon Bells and Pomegranates No. VI: Colombe's Birthday Bells and Pomegranates No. VIII: Luria and a Soul's Tragedy Herakles The Agamemnon of Aeschylus Robert Browning (1812 - 1889) was an English poet and playwright whose mastery of dramatic verse, and in particular the dramatic monologue, made him one of the foremost Victorian poets.

The Memoirs of Elizabeth Cady Stanton: Eighty Years and More: The Truly Intriguing and Empowering Life Story of the World Famous American Suffragist, ... by Elizabeth Cady Stanton (Musaicum Books) Price verified one day ago

Musaicum Books presents to you this carefully created volume of "The Memoirs of Elizabeth Cady Stanton: Eighty Years and More". This ebook has been designed and formatted to the highest digital standards and adjusted for readability on all devices. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, born in 1815, was an American suffragist, social activist, abolitionist, and leading figure of the early women's rights movement. Along with her friend Susan B. Anthony, Canton was one of the very prominent faces of Women's Movement in America. Her Declaration of Sentiments, presented at the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848 New York, is often credited with initiating the first organized women's rights and women's suffrage movements in USA. Unlike her contemporaries, Stanton was also interested in various other issues pertaining to women like their parental and custody rights, property rights, employment and income rights, divorce, the economic health of the family, and birth control until her death in 1905. But even before being a suffragist, she had also been a champion of Abolitionist cause and envisaged the dream of a just society since the very beginning of her life. This edition brings to you the famed autobiography of this courageous woman in celebration of the undying spirit of freedom, equality and woman power. "I am moved to recall what I can of my early days, what I thought and felt, that grown people may have a better understanding of children and do more for their happiness and development. I see so much tyranny exercised over children, even by well-disposed parents, and in so many varied forms, -- a tyranny to which these parents are themselves insensible, -- that I desire to paint my joys and sorrows in as vivid colors as possible, in the hope that I may do something to defend the weak from the strong...
