Four Seconds on the Clock: College Freshmen (Gulfside City Book 3) by Mark Treble Price verified 8 hours ago

Tommy and Logan are now freshmen basketball players at Dual Carolina University. It's Tommy's turn to tell the story. Their relationship continues to develop and expand, while it deals with setbacks, jealousy, infidelity, and the aftermath of trauma. The young men make new friends, stay in contact with old ones, and experience all the ups and downs of college life, from uninhibited drunken parties through dorm life, a lot of new things (such as their first four-way), and discoveries about themselves and others. Their severe trauma as college freshmen still haunts them, and their biological families reject them. So, they create a family of their choosing. Each man takes on a second sport, one with a homophobic team captain, the other with a team that takes coed showers. The basketball season takes twists and turns, ranging from player injuries through beating the number one team in the country, to screwing delightfully with the other teams' minds. One is the victim of attempted rape, the other gives in to desires he shouldn't have, and their teammates take them under their wings, protecting them from all they can. Still, both men question themselves, each other, and the nature and future of their relationship. Do they have a future? Maybe. This chapter in their lives closes at a wedding. A man at the next table drops to one knee, and proposes to his boyfriend. That inspires Logan, who drops to one knee, while Tommy panics. Tommy's not ready to get married, what is he going to say? Well,, that depends on the question now, doesn't it?

The Witchcraft Delusion in New England (Vol. 1-3): Its Rise, Progress, and Termination (Complete Edition) by Cotton Mather (e-artnow) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 5 hours ago

The Witchcraft Delusion in New England in three volumes is a book relating the Salem witch trials of 1692-1693. It presents the compilation of works on the subject by Cotton Mather, a Puritan minister involved in trials and Robert Calef who opposed Mather. After the trials Mather published the book Wonders of the Invisible World which contained a few of Mather's sermons, the conditions of the colony and a description of witch trials in Europe. He argued that since there are witches and devils, there are "immortal souls." He also claimed that witches appear spectrally as themselves. Calef's response was the book More Wonders of the Invisible World in which he denounced Mather's preaches. The Witchcraft Delusion in New England contains both of those works with the analysis and additional materials which provide a detailed look on the subject of witchcraft.

A Mustard Seed Life: What happens when ordinary people put their faith in an Extraordinary God? by Jill McIlreavy 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

When God called Moses, He asked him the question, "what's in your hand?" All Moses had in his hand was an ordinary, everyday shepherds' staff; but surrendered in faith to the God of miracles, that staff became the staff of God! Jesus said that all that is required to move mountains is faith the size of a mustard seed. He also said; "without me you can do nothing." 'A Mustard Seed Life' is a series of daily-devotional style studies and thoughts, with a theme for each week, covering a six-month period. We will delve into some well known stories of ordinary people in the Bible who became God's movers and shakers; and remind ourselves of what happens when ordinary people put their faith in an EXTRAORDINARY God! I hope that as you read the topics that I have only lightly covered, you will be enticed to deeper study. And it is my sincere prayer that, as you daily immerse yourself in the Word of God your heart and mind will be awakened to His presence; your ears opened to your Shepherd's voice. May you be refreshed and strengthened in your daily walk with God.

God Had Mercy on Me: The Life & Work of George Müller: A Life of Prayer as Seen by the Author and His Friends & Family by George Müller (e-artnow) Price verified 13 hours ago

e-artnow presents to you this meticulously edited George Müller collection. "The word of God alone is our standard of judgment in spiritual things... the Holy Spirit alone can teach us about our state by nature, show us the need of a Saviour, enable us to believe in Christ, explain to us the Scriptures, help us in preaching, etc. The first evening that I shut myself into my room, to give myself to prayer and meditation over the Scriptures, I learned more in a few hours than I had done during a period of several months previously. But the particular difference was, that I received real strength for my soul in doing so." George Müller (1805-1898) was a Christian evangelist and the director of the Ashley Down orphanage in Bristol, England. He cared for 10,024 orphans during his lifetime, and provided educational opportunities for the orphans to the point that he was even accused by some of raising the poor above their natural station in British life. He established 117 schools which offered Christian education to more than 120,000. The theology that guided George Müller's work was shaped by an experience in his middle twenties when he "came to prize the Bible alone as his standard of judgement". Müller wrote frequently about the stewardship of money and the non-reliance on earthly riches, and how God would bless the man who kept to these principles, and felt that laying his own experiences bare would prove the truth of his claims. His personal income, from unsolicited gifts (he refused any kind of salary) rose from £151 in 1831 to more than £2,000 in 1870. However, he retained only around £300 a year for himself and his family, the rest he gave away. Müller's faith in God strengthened day by day and he spent hours in daily prayer and Bible reading. When she comes to, she realizes three things: her head throbs, she's in her own bed, and it's the first day of summer... again. Brooke is reeling over what happened. Is it death? Is she unconscious? She has no choice but to relive the summer. As she navigates through the do-over, she tries to put the pieces together, but continually falls short. She knows her dreams are clues, but she doesn't know if redoing summer will last or if it will have any effect on reality. When her dreams turn to nightmares, and she starts remembering the events of her father's death, she becomes aware that the end of the summer is approaching. And she has to overcome her past, including her fears, if she is ever going to truly live again.

Blood on Their Hands by Bob Brink (TouchPoint Press) 4.5 Stars (21 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

A racist attorney faces a crisis of conscience -- and danger -- when reluctantly defending a black man brutally beaten by police and charged with resisting arrest. In its compelling portrayal of police brutality and racial injustice, Blood on Their Hands is unlike other legal thrillers in its uncannily perfect timing as the country was torn asunder in spring/summer 2020 by police mistreatment of blacks. Further, it is one of a kind in its introduction of a controversial legal conundrum. But that enigma -- whether an attorney who witnesses a police beating may defend the victim -- takes a back seat to the novel's depiction of racial animosity. Police brutality toward blacks is the salient, and altogether timely, problem addressed in Blood on Their Hands by both the legal system and the book's characters in the racial attitudes they harbor. The novel explores these bigoted feelings in depth. Hiram Garbuncle is a veteran criminal defense attorney -- as well as a racist, miserly alcoholic. His life revolves around hoarding money, following sports, pursuing sex, drinking -- and the prideful practice of law. Alec Monceau is a black man working to support his daughter's family in Trinidad. It is 2008, and his car carries an Obama bumper sticker. This political advertisement leads to a superfluous traffic stop and a brutal beating by police. It goes against Garbuncle's grain to defend a black man from a charge of violently resisting arrest, but he is so confident of winning that he is negligent in the jury selection, and a mistrial occurs. He then discovers incriminating evidence on the two cops, and his new challenge becomes how to keep himself and his client alive pending a new trial. Blood on Their Hands borrows themes from the movies Gran Torino and My Cousin Vinnie. It is a tale replete with both pathos and humor. Steeped in suspense, action, intrigue, violent episodes and yes, a bit of titillating sex, the story is leavened by a tragic love affair. ...

The Next Port by Heyward Coleman (Vermillion Press) 3.9 Stars (93 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

The Next Port by Heyward Coleman is a bold and entertaining memoir chronicling the five year voyage the author and his wife made sailing their 42-foot sailboat, Skimmer, and offers a few insights about marriage, religion, and the pursuit of happiness. Readers will marvel at the warmth, generosity and wisdom the world had to offer them on this journey of a lifetime. What began as letters to family and friends ultimately became an engaging book that chronicles the realization of a lifelong dream of the author and his wife to explore the world on a sailboat and is a powerful testament to the life and love that flourished during their five-year "world-wind" voyage. The memoir begins with a flashback sequence as the reader is catapulted into a world of high-wind hurricanes and pirate-threats with adventures from Guantanamo, Cuba to Djibouti in the horn of Africa and nearly forty countries in between. From the joy of new friendships and landscapes to a broken autopilot in the middle of the Pacific, a four-day storm heading for the Southern Cook Islands, and the despair of running Skimmer on the rocks, the seven seas were great teachers and have never been so restless -- or forgiving.

This book examines the historical city of Pergamum, with social and societal interactions between rich and poor, Romans, Greeks and Jews, slaves and free. Antipas and his granddaughter Miriam have escaped Jerusalem's destruction in 70 AD, thinking they are now safely established in the city of Pergamum, located in the Province of Asia Minor.
