Eighteen year old Rachel O'Connor arrived in Astoria Oregon in the year 1882, and went with young Doctor Mark Whitfield on long distance calls to sparse homesteads, lumber camps trappers cabins and Indian Villages..The beautiful virginal wilderness that lay all over, seemed to sing with sparkling rivers and crystal waterfalls. Rachel muses that the morning of creation must have been like this.
But there are traps and pitfalls beneath this panoramic paradise in the form of outlaws, wolves and renegade Indians, plus the isolation of any kind of help.
Rachel feels herself attracted to a handsome half-breed Indian man, who knows no laws nor boundaries. He is a devil-may-care outlaw who is as wild as the mountains around him. He awakens something in her that she is not even aware of---something wild that could match the savage instincts of the young Indian man.
Rachel battles two instincts that try to dominate her psyche. That of a modest, self respecting nurse, and a rogue side that seems to get out of control.
She has strong decisions to make. Decisions that will change her life...
