Disenchanted In the Land of Dreams Come True by L. M. Roth (Roth Publications) Price verified 2 hours ago

"Be careful what you wish for: you might get it... " "Incantera Sylvana is what remains of what was once a perfect world. Here all of creation is in balance and lives in harmony. It is largely unchanged from its original state, with only a few changes that have come to mar it. And those changes came after the advent of Man, who can not touch anything without spoiling it, all the while under the delusion that he improves what he changes, never seeing, never caring, that nothing needed improving except in his mind." Here Daphne paused for so long that Molle thought she was finished speaking and prompted her to go on. "And? What of Man? How did he come to be here, and who lived here originally besides yourself?" "The Fairy Folk have always lived here," Daphne answered, "and they have the rule of the realm. There are others with limited reign over their immediate domain, such as the Gnomes and the Trolls. They are not to be treated lightly, for their power to harm those who offend them is terrible, as those so foolish to do so soon discover. "Man was never part of this world, but there is a door that opens on occasion, through which he stumbles and always brings some grief on our land. Always he seeks to make improvements and by his attempts he spoils what was once perfect. And when he discovers the secret of Incantera Sylvana he becomes more terrible still as he attempts to mold our world to his will. "Man has long been the bane of this land, and yet we have been unable to stop his coming. He does not enter often enough that we see where he found the door, and he does not tell us when he is apprehended. If we could but seal the door we should do so, but we have never been able to find it and so prevent his entrance into our world." From L. M. Roth, author of Abelard and the Dragon's Vapor, Arise My Love The Princess Who Fell Asleep, and Cinderella's Shoe A Fairy Tale Murder Mystery, comes a haunting tale of terror in an enchanted forest. When a brother and ...

The Mark Twain Collection by Mark Twain (Blackmore Dennett) 4.3 Stars (36 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

Samuel Langhorne Clemens known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. His novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885), the latter often called "The Great American Novel". Twain was raised in Hannibal, Missouri, which later provided the setting for Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. He served an apprenticeship with a printer and then worked as a typesetter, contributing articles to the newspaper of his older brother Orion Clemens. He later became a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River before heading west to join Orion in Nevada. He referred humorously to his lack of success at mining, turning to journalism for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise. His humorous story, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County", was published in 1865, based on a story that he heard at Angels Hotel in Angels Camp, California, where he had spent some time as a miner. The short story brought international attention and was even translated into French. His wit and satire, in prose and in speech, earned praise from critics and peers, and he was a friend to presidents, artists, industrialists, and European royalty. Twain earned a great deal of money from his writings and lectures, but he invested in ventures that lost most of it -- such as the Paige Compositor, a mechanical typesetter that failed because of its complexity and imprecision. He filed for bankruptcy in the wake of these financial setbacks, but he eventually overcame his financial troubles with the help of Henry Huttleston Rogers. He chose to pay all his pre-bankruptcy creditors in full, even after he had no legal responsibility to do so. Twain was born shortly after an appearance of Halley's Comet, and he predicted that he would "go out with it" as well; he died the day after the comet returned. He was lauded as the "greatest humorist this country has produced", and William Faulkner called ...

"Chandra had yet to fathom why Jonnecht could not have lived and ruled for many long years, or why it was so urgent that she ascend immediately." Chandra never asked to rule Kensrik, but fate took a strange course. Known as a usurper and sorceress by most and traumatised by all that has transpired, she is forced to make use of the few loyal allies she has in order to hold together her restless empire. In an attempt to identify and defeat the conspirators who inadvertently landed her in power, Chandra risks putting the lives of many in mortal danger, as well as her own. Derek is an aimless wanderer - the youngest in a lineage that has long fallen from nobility. He finds himself summoned by tradition to serve a family historically considered his bitter enemy. As he journeys down the same path a fateful ancestor once travelled, he struggles with personal demons and begins to reconsider his loyalty to the mission. Duke Lenn found one true cause in love and it cost him everything. His legacy shaped the present in which Chandra and Derek find themselves. Now their choice will shape the future of Kensrik... The Gift-Knight's Quest is set in a new and vividly imagined world, written with delicate prose that will allow the reader to explore with their imagination. The author was inspired during the composition of this novel by the likes of Michael Moorcock, J. G. Ballard and Roger Zelazny, but doesn't claim to be any of them; he hoped to imagine something different. This book may appeal to fans of fantasy and historical fiction. This is the first book of The Gift-Knight Trilogy, and continues with The Crown Princess' Voyage.

I Remember Earth (Among the Stars and Stones Vol. 1 of 3) by Nik O.K. Price verified 5 hours ago

The most unlikely of heroes finds her way on the most unlucky of planets. Being an explorer might mean a lot of things. It can be a life that changes the world, and it can be the worst decision you ever made. Actually, sometimes life is funny, because it absolutely might be both of those things. Andrea never was an astronaut before she was a space explorer. I guess there're some people that just get strapped into a rocket, and somebody in charge hopes that after a while, they become something like the thing they need to be. Who would have thought that the girl from Brazil would become the girl on another world? Who would have imagined that home and love were things that you could find under a new sky? Well, that's something to remember, and in fact, it's the one thing to remember: expectations are a part of what got left back on Earth. Expectations and everything else. I Remember Earth is a sci-fi story that's always going to give you a lot of fi and a just a little sci. More than anything else, it's all about people. They're as silly and as wonderful as people are, they're as terrifying and alien as people can be, and not much has changed, except maybe the whole world.

The Sons of Perdition: They say they came from above... by Alex Lindsey (Crooked Creek Publishing) 4.3 Stars (33 Reviews)    Price verified 6 hours ago

They say they came from above... Ancient secrets buried in Antarctica, clandestine cloning of ancient DNA, an old Crusader map pointing to the seat of dark power controlling the world's 'illuminated' governments, and the horrific reason why human souls are so sought after by the underworld. The reader might also find of interest, attached at the end of the book, an excerpt (slightly redacted) from an interview with Dr. J. Murphy, Interpreting Liaison to Project Essentia, Los Alamos National Laboratory. In it, Dr. Murphy discusses the use of light and photonic amplifiers as the electromagnetic source for anti-gravity drives, the role of time in the conversion from energy to mass, the coalescing of mass particles along a standing wave function similar to, but not exactly like, the Higg's field, the mathematical circumnavigation of the Lorentz contraction where it imposes a square-root singularity on negative time accumulation, and dark matter as the quasi-orthogonal overlap of non-cohesive mass from other dimensions (quasi-orthogonal because gravity acts across the dimensions). For years scientists had warned about the real possibility of a global strike from outer space: a global killer. Mathematicians had calculated that once in approximately every sixty million years the Earth has been hit by a meteorite of such proportions it drastically changes our climate, plunging the world into a decade of nuclear winters. In a post-apocalyptic world in which the sun has been replaced by near-darkness, the few remaining survivors have been forced underground to protect themselves from the evil predators that roam the surface above. Something else is out there, in the darkness, humanlike, but without a soul. Something that speaks intelligently, plans with cunning meticulousness and, just like its cousin, this new breed likes to hunt. Not the pitiful, scrawny livestock and wild animals that cling to life on the barren surface above. No, this new breed hunts for something far more rewarding - US!

Treading closely on Hubert's heels comes Inspector Borges, relentlessly exhuming the past with a deceptively casual touch. When everyone has reason to want Ferdy dead, and everyone tells the odd white lie, how will anyone ever discover the truth? I See Water, I See Trees!: RANDOLPH by Bill Stenlake 3.7 Stars (3 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

Randolf: I see water, I see trees! Suddenly I become aware that I am sitting down. I have absolutely no recollection of where I might be. I can't remember where I was and what I was doing last. My eyes are still closed as I try to bring my mind into gear. There is a pungent smell drifting into my nostrils. It is not one I find particularly pleasant. I only struggle for a couple of seconds to place it. The recognition comes to me swiftly. It is the smell of pee. At that I open my eyes. I am on a bench in a park. I look to my left; because that is the direction the smell is originating from. Sitting next to me is a woman and she smells of pee. She is sitting maybe a foot over from me. She is looking at me with crystal clear blue eyes. Those appear to be her best asset. Her face is grubby with a mixture of ingrained dirt and exposure to the sun. Her smile is a toothy one, but I wish she wouldn't as the teeth she does have left are stained and chipped. She is much smaller than my five foot ten inches height, but she probably matches my 200 pound weight, at a guess. 'I see water and trees' her words startle me as she shoots out a stubby hand, cupped for a donation. This isn't the first time John Ford has come to, not knowing where he is. The previous time was several years ago, after he had been knocked down by a car. He woke up in hospital not knowing who he is or why he had been to Charlottesville. He still doesn't know. He has had to start his life afresh. The woman sends John on a mission, apparently to try to save a homeless hostel destined to be redeveloped. The hostel was gifted by Abraham Randolph. She guides John to other people who will help him on his quest. His journey takes him from downtown Manhattan to the middle of nowhere in New England. However there are some people who don't want John to fulfil his quest. John starts to think his past life has caught up with him. Someone seems to be fairly eager to stop him, to the extent they want to kill him ...
