The Bible Unveiled by M. M. Mangasarian (e-artnow) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

To make it possible for a man to be as honest in his religion as he would like to be in his business; to make him as unafraid in church as he aims to be anywhere else, and to help make him as impatient of a lie on Sunday as he is on any other day of the week, is the object of these studies on the Bible. In this book Mangasarian presents numerous evidences which prove that the Bible is not an authentic book but a compilation of older myths and legends.

Creative Mind: Lessons and Speeches on Mental and Spiritual Law by Ernest Holmes (e-artnow) 4.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

Creative Mind displays what each soul must discover for himself, that he stands in the midst of an eternal creative power which presses itself around his own thought, and casts back to him glorified all that he thinks. If it awakens within the consciousness of one single individual the realization that the mind of the Universal (which is the only mind that there is) is his own mind that the creative power of this mind is his also; that the manifestation of this mind is his own individuality; that the love and power and peace of this mind is within himself, it will not be written in vain. May it then do much in simplifying and bringing to light some of the deeper mysteries and meanings of life.

REQUIEM FOR THE WEST by Robert Trainor 4.5 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

NOTE: This book can also be purchased with seven other novels of mine for $3,99 in an anthology entitled Eight Novels. Requiem for the West is also contained in 5 Novels, which is another anthology of mine that sells for $2.99. An apocalyptic poem entitled "Requiem for the West" is at the center of this tale, which has equal elements of pervasive mockery, offbeat romance, doomsday premonitions, and Dilbert-like farce. Larry Zane is a professor of English who is appointed to a committee that is running a poetry contest where the hundred-thousand-dollar first prize will be given to the poem that most resembles "The Raven," by Edgar Allan Poe. Also on the committee are Jaden Graves, the chain-smoking President of the college, Julian Mendoza, the sexual-predator Provost, and Mariah Rhodes, an attractive woman lawyer. Meanwhile, as the committee becomes lost in waves of cigarette smoke, sexual innuendos, and contemptuous insults, Larry becomes disillusioned with the relationship that he ...

The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life by Émile Durkheim (e-artnow) 3.4 Stars (33 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This carefully crafted ebook: "The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. The Elementary Forms of Religious Life analyses religion as a social phenomenon. Durkheim attributes the development of religion to the emotional security attained through communal living. His study of totemic societies in Australia led to a conclusion that the animal or plant that each clan worshipped as a sacred power was in fact that society itself. According to Durkheim, early humans associated such feelings not only with one another, but as well with objects in their environment. This, Durkheim believed, led to the ascription of human sentiments and superhuman powers to these objects, in turn leading to totemism.

WORDS: The way feelings control our mind by Gyozo Margoczi 4.2 Stars (9 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

Looking at words, in a way that has never been done before... Words form the basis of human thinking. During its history, humankind has been using words without being aware of what words are, what the process of thinking in words looks like and what its pitfalls are. As a result, sometimes we use meaningless words to make meaningless sentences which build up meaningless theories, in a good case, but which, in a bad case, can also build up theories that ruin the lives of millions of people. And all this is not without 'beautiful' consequences: the history of humankind is a sequence of unending plots, genocides, bloody wars and economic crises. While the development of sciences soars uninterruptedly, human studies are struggling in the dust like a bird without wings. Why? Because of words. Or more precisely, because there is an undiscovered, mysterious world where words are rooted and through and in which they live. What to do? Is there a way out? These are the questions this book ...

The Prince: Political Treatise by Niccolò Machiavelli (e-artnow) 4.4 Stars (2,793 Reviews)    Price verified 30 minutes ago

The Prince is a political treatise by the Florentine philosopher Niccolò Machiavelli, written c. 1513. The Prince is sometimes claimed to be one of the first works of modern political philosophy, in which the effective truth is taken to be more important than any abstract ideal. It was also in direct conflict with the dominant Catholic and scholastic doctrines of the time concerning how to consider politics and ethics. Machiavelli dedicated The Prince to the ruling Medici of the time, leading some today to still speculate whether the book was a satire. Niccolò Machiavelli asserted that The Prince (president, dictator, prime minister, etc.) does not have to be concerned with ethics, as long as their motivation is to protect the state. It is this questionable belief that in many ways had lead to the modern world as we know it. His assertion was that the head of state must protect the state no matter the cost and no matter what rules he or she breaks in the process.

Matter and Memory by Henri Bergson (e-artnow) 3.7 Stars (30 Reviews)    Price verified one hour ago

Matter and Memory presents an analysis of the classical philosophical problems concerning this relation. Within that frame the analysis of memory serves the purpose of clarifying the problem. Matter and Memory was written in reaction to the book The Maladies of Memory by Théodule Ribot, which appeared in 1881. Ribot claimed that the findings of brain science proved that memory is lodged within a particular part of the nervous system; localized within the brain and thus being of a material nature. Bergson was opposed to this reduction of spirit to matter. Defending a clear anti-reductionist position, he considered memory to be of a deeply spiritual nature, the brain serving the need of orienting present action by inserting relevant memories. The brain thus being of a practical nature, certain lesions tend to perturb this practical function, but without erasing memory as such. The memories are, instead, simply not 'incarnated', and cannot serve their purpose.

The Boys of East Precinct: A True Story of Police Harassment and Cover-up by Michael L. Eads (Red San Publishing, LLC) 1.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 20 hours ago

George Floyd, Terrence Crutcher, Eric Garner, Michael Brown and the list goes on and on. We Americans are so used to unarmed citizens being approached (under questionable circumstances) by the police, that we have become apathetic. How many more people have to die before the citizens of this country wake up and collectively do something about the abuse of law enforcement? The Boys of East Precinct is a true story of police harassment and cover-up. It also identifies the need for the federal government to intervene on innocent citizen's behalf against out-of-control officers of the law who inflict unnecessary and excessive use of punitive force stemming from emotion and anger. In other words, it's time to get the bully cops who think they're above the law off the streets before more innocent citizens are harassed, beaten or killed.
