Birds and Other Dreamers: Poems (new poetry Book 1) by K. B. Marie (Timberlane Press) 4.5 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 13 minutes ago

This is the dream. I am a comet, stardust breath and spectral tail ablaze. In the blackest corner of a starless sky, I pace alone. Through a forgotten orbit out of desperation for the familiar, in loyalty to a rhythm I cannot comprehend, a millennium at a time. Infinity. You are born, and in that instant my comet heart hears the first notes of our song and sets course for Earth. By the power of dream logic somehow ice is exchanged for bone. Stardust settles into green eyes. Still it takes me 27 years to move this body into your orbit. But the homecoming feels familiar, expected, as if I've only just left and come back having forgotten something important, until I wake crying, begging. I don't want to return to the cold dark of space alone. Explaining I can't bear to spend another millennium out there, knowing you may or may not be born, knowing orbits can change and I will have to lose you again -- search for you again. In our bed, you smile. You kiss each wet cheek and tell me it was only a dream. But it isn't, I say. This life is the dream. - k.b. marie, "preface: a comet, dreaming" This collection of fifty illustrated poems are a journey, an exploration of love and all its entanglements: attraction, fear, loss, and redemption.

Stone Cold: A Why Choose Paranormal Romance (Gods & Monsters Book 1) by Kate Nova 4.2 Stars (39 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

Rule #1: Hide the monster. Whispers surround me. Every time I walk down the halls of the academy, I'm terrified they'll discover who I really am. If they do, I'll never make it back to Mount Olympus so I can finally seek revenge on the god who ruined me. So, note to self: No flashing my scales, no showing my hair and absolutely no letting my eyes hit direct sunlight. It won't be easy, especially with three devastatingly handsome shifters who seem intent on destroying me. A gorgeous griffin, a smoking hot sea dragon and a mysterious giant. Other girls see them as swoon-worthy jocks, but to me they're just ruthless monsters. Then again, so am I. I'm Medusa the Gorgon, after all. Cursed by the gods to be the most terrifying woman alive. It'll be a challenge, but I've been through worse. I'll survive, as long as I don't break rule #2: Don't fall in love with my enemies. Stone Cold is the first book in Kate Nova's Gods & Monsters series, a medium-burn reverse harem story. If you love fierce heroines, hot alpha men, why-choose romance, and fantasy with lots of twists and turns along the way, you'll love this story.

Hollywood Redemption: Luke and Alex #1: Small-Town, Single Parent Romance (Fairlane) by Harlow Layne 4.3 Stars (58 Reviews)    Price verified 6 hours ago

One night can change forever... When a single night with a handsome stranger turned my world upside down, I found myself feeling things that I hadn't felt in a very long time, including insecurities, courtesy of a verbally abusive ex-husband. I fought my way back from the shell of the person I was and I wasn't ready to give up on love. Not yet. Luke was gorgeous, thoughtful and completely unlike anyone I'd ever met. But as a famous Hollywood actor, he was also way out of my league, no matter how hard he tried to convince me otherwise. His career took him from coast to coast and I lived in a small town somewhere in between. He was a man on the rise, whose work ruled his life and I was a single mom with a son to raise. Miles apart, we built a friendship that slowly burned into something either of us saw coming. I wanted to make it work, so did he... but I quickly learned that his life was far from glamorous and my past wasn't behind us. The more time we spent together, the more the line between our two worlds faded. The harder we fell I began to wonder, if two people collided by fate and pushed apart by distance could build a love that would last? Luke and Alex's story continues in Hollywood Fairytale. Available now. If you love slow burn, emotionally heartfelt, swoon-worthy romance, then you'll love Harlow Layne's sizzling Fairlane series. The series has crossover characters from each novel. It is not required to read the books in order, but it is recommended to enhance the reading experience.

In this epic and unique love story set in the wild mountains of West Virginia, a young woman and her unlikely friends find their way through multiple job hazards and terrible working conditions to achieve the unexpected. Andrea never thought she'd live in a camp trailer or work outdoors in inhospitable climates; but eager to leave the stress and tedium of grad-school behind, she sets off with her estranged grandpa, Buck, to build a pipeline through the rugged mountains of West Virginia. She's determined to understand the man and the family divide that drove him away. Once the job starts, she forms an unlikely friendship with Nick, the rough and tumble foreman of the bending crew. Most of the guys aren't willing to accept her, and Rooster, the handsome, cocky, tie-in foreman, is determined that she's a ridiculous distraction. But building a pipeline is fraught with danger, fatigue, and confrontation as egos collide. Caught up in the all-male social microcosm, Andrea can't help but understand the pecking order, and she's at the bottom. Being a woman makes it even more unlikely she'll be accepted. Buck proves to be a taskmaster, but a kindhearted teddy-bear of a man under a gruff exterior, and Andrea comes to love him, opening herself up to the pain of his past. Rooster and Andrea are drawn to each other, yet they know an on-the-job romance will only cause problems. Rooster is tormented by his own past, and determined to prove himself to Buck, a pipeline ledged. Messing with the old man's granddaughter is a line Rooster refuses to cross. But as Andrea shows herself to be a hard worker and a valuable member of the crew, she earns Rooster's respect and he can't keep his distance. It seems the couple can't go back, they can't move forward, and they can't let go. Both will have to make sacrifices and take a chance on ruining their credibility in order to be together.

John Staven is forced into taking some time off work. He attends an auction and though not winning his two prized lots he bids and wins three boxes of odds and ends from a house clearance. Sorting the boxes he finds an old book. Inside the cover is an inscription but not in English. Interest triggered, he flicks through the book only to find a section in the middle is hand-written. He spends some time on the internet trying to find out the language it is written in. He discovers it is in the Cornish Language. The writing is the diary of Kenan Ennor Lanyon. Kenan is a 17 year old man, who with 7 other Cornishmen, is leaving Cornwall to go to America in 1835. John gets gripped with Kenan's diary and spends the next few days translating it. The diary tells of their ocean crossing to America in an old 30 foot Cornish Lugger they have patched up for the journey. It tells of the settlement where the men decide to live and the start of their life there. At this point the diary stops. John investigates a little more the Cornish link of the diary. He contacts the family and shows the Granddaughter, Jen, his translation. They are confronted by Carl, a distant relative of one of the others mentioned in the diary. They discover on a 50 year old map a name which requires more research and a visit to the land agent opens up a whole new side to the diary. John and Jen follow through this line of research which takes them all the way to Boston before they discover more of what happened to Kenan. The possibility of their being another part of the diary increases interest too. John and Jen's arrival in McKenzie and Boston signals a change in something for the first time since Kenan's death.

King John (William Shakespeare Masterpieces Book 4) by William Shakespeare (Bauer books) 4.8 Stars (9 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

The play is a wonderful mix of history and ironic commentary, one of two plays of Shakespeare's that is entirely in verse (the other one is RICHARD II, which he wrote just before KING JOHN), and it's tragically poetic and satiric in equal measure. Shakespeare never wrote anything else quite like it. If he wrote better plays, they were also different kinds of plays: this one is unique.

Blood on Their Hands by Bob Brink (TouchPoint Press) 4.5 Stars (21 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

A racist attorney faces a crisis of conscience -- and danger -- when reluctantly defending a black man brutally beaten by police and charged with resisting arrest. In its compelling portrayal of police brutality and racial injustice, Blood on Their Hands is unlike other legal thrillers in its uncannily perfect timing as the country was torn asunder in spring/summer 2020 by police mistreatment of blacks. Further, it is one of a kind in its introduction of a controversial legal conundrum. But that enigma -- whether an attorney who witnesses a police beating may defend the victim -- takes a back seat to the novel's depiction of racial animosity. Police brutality toward blacks is the salient, and altogether timely, problem addressed in Blood on Their Hands by both the legal system and the book's characters in the racial attitudes they harbor. The novel explores these bigoted feelings in depth. Hiram Garbuncle is a veteran criminal defense attorney -- as well as a racist, miserly alcoholic. His life revolves around hoarding money, following sports, pursuing sex, drinking -- and the prideful practice of law. Alec Monceau is a black man working to support his daughter's family in Trinidad. It is 2008, and his car carries an Obama bumper sticker. This political advertisement leads to a superfluous traffic stop and a brutal beating by police. It goes against Garbuncle's grain to defend a black man from a charge of violently resisting arrest, but he is so confident of winning that he is negligent in the jury selection, and a mistrial occurs. He then discovers incriminating evidence on the two cops, and his new challenge becomes how to keep himself and his client alive pending a new trial. Blood on Their Hands borrows themes from the movies Gran Torino and My Cousin Vinnie. It is a tale replete with both pathos and humor. Steeped in suspense, action, intrigue, violent episodes and yes, a bit of titillating sex, the story is leavened by a tragic love affair. ...

I need a woman to help me shut up my big Greek family. And my new intern is perfect for the job, though pretending to have a relationship with her might be a little taboo. Good thing I'm in charge. Being a self-made billionaire, I haven't spent much time looking for love. None actually. Lucky for me, it's fallen right into my lap. This pretty American girl has zero sense of direction, but a good heart and a sexy smile. I've always been smitten by a woman that needs rescuing, or so it seems. Something tells me that she might be more than I bargained for. Either way, I just need her to fake it for me until it appears real. Funny how real it quickly becomes. Casey Jones Mysteries Vol. 1-7 (Casey Jones Mystery Series) by Katy Munger 4.5 Stars (162 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

THESE ACTION-PACKED CASEY JONES ADVENTURES MAY BREAK YOUR FUNNYBONE, BUT THEY WON'T BREAK YOUR WALLET! "Casey Jones joins the ranks of smart and gutsy heroines. The South will never be the same. Don't miss her." -- Janet Evanovich "She is smart, tough, and tenacious... a wonderfully entertaining read." -- Publisher's Weekly Casey Jones cannot be beat for rowdy, action-packed adventures with humor, romance, and hard-boiled mayhem aplenty. She's hot, she's hilarious, and she's so headstrong her quasi-boss Bobby D. can only shake his massive head and do as the lady says. The hot and hilarious parts go hand-in-hand as the plus-size detective fantasizes her way through a small army of possible inamoratos, now and then anointing one or another, although always off the page and always accompanied by a wisecrack or three. ("I feel like I've been in a train wreck," says one. "Of course you do," replies his lovely date. "Why do you think they call me Casey Jones?") LEGWORK, Vol. 1 Author Munger masterfully blends nail-biting suspense with Casey's hilarious wisecracking narration as she navigates an unsavory southern stew of crooked politicians, crooked cops, old grudges, ancient crimes, and everyone's favorite, dysfunctional families. OUT OF TIME, Vol. 2 The family of a death row inmate just isn't buying the story that she killed her cop husband, and they've hired North Carolina's mouthiest female sleuth to save her from lethal injection -- in a month. MONEY TO BURN, Vol. 3 When a favorite client gets killed on her watch, Casey vows to find the killer no matter what killers, arsonists, rapists, and spoiled rotten socialites get in her way. Then, to the cynical sleuth's chagrin -- everyone all around her starts falling in love... just before Casey herself is smitten. BAD TO THE BONE, Vol. 4 BAD TO THE BONE is a rowdy, action-packed adventure with humor, romance, and hard-boiled mayhem aplenty. Its two greatest delights are its vivid antagonists, the big-hearted, tough PI ...
