Dog in the Dark (Three Oaks Book 1) by Gerald Hammond (Lume Books) 4.7 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 16 minutes ago

Ex-army Captain John Cunningham, a Falklands war veteran, is making the transition back into civilian life. After investing in a property in the Lowlands, Three Oaks Farm, Cunningham starts kennels for breeding and training gun dogs. The farm is in the middle of dog-breeding country. Neighbour Joe Little raises Labradors; Laura Daiches and Olive Cory, who live next to each other, also raise spaniels, but strictly for show - and never fail to express contempt for Cunningham's working dogs. But the dog breeding world proves to be a ruthlessly competitive business, where enemies are easily made. Especially when a rival breeder is murdered, and Cunningham is framed for the crime... Bombastic Gadflies by DG Farnsworth 2.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 16 minutes ago

The menu needed altered severely. Not fit to consume or eat: that's how folks viewed the politics served to them in Kentucky. Candidates didn't level with the people. Dishing out negative advertising throughout the campaign sickened voters. Forking over the most massive helpings of money -- the key ingredient -- enabled a Carey Lucas and Hayward Thomas primary victory. A diet of deceit and greed--consumed by the congressman and his daughter, Myra (the apple does not fall far from the tree). The congressman's daughter and best friend, Royce VanArsdale, lead exciting, rich, tumultuous lives in the Bluegrass' thoroughbred racing world. Royce VanArsdale and Leila Nichols share a rich lifelong history of eccentric, family secrets among the Bluegrass elite. Their friendship tears apart as the congressman's daughter weaves a web of deceit and lies. US Congressman Carey Lucas pockets the largest pool of money of any departing member of Congress--$700-thousand--free to take his campaign chest by not running for office. Corruption of the Highest Order. Congressman Carey Lucas' actions reflect one of the reasons why the public holds Congress in such low esteem. It validates their concern that there are a lot of people who get into politics to benefit themselves financially. The money was not supposed to be a special interest pension fund, but was contributed to the Lucas election campaign. By running for governor against the millionaire horse breeder, Congressman Lucas could pocket that money (by not seeking another congressional term). The US representative broke that promise he made while running for governor -- to "not keep any of that money." He put into his pocket what remained in his congressional campaign fund... bad politics, bad taste, and bad for the Republican party. The congressman misleads the public with press releases--including remarks about the Persian Gulf War (used to benefit his campaign). Protagonist Royce VanArsdale, along with others, fight anorexic ...

Darkness in the Valley: An Uncanny Dossier (The Uncanny Chronicles Book 2) by Gregory Miller (West Arcadia Press) 4.7 Stars (60 Reviews)    Price verified 19 minutes ago

Return to Uncanny Valley ... the remarkable town supposedly destroyed in 1948, where paranormal is normal and the unusual is traditional. Now it reaches out from the past again through an extraordinary bundle of journals and documents that chronicle a season of the community's darkest hours. It is 1909, and Uncanny Valley's tranquility is shattered by greed and distrust after the offer of a full-scale buyout by Tarkington Mining. Yet when the residents take blind Ben Driscoll's advice, "Don't sell," an even greater shadow quickly descends - one that uses human weakness as a weapon - and its purpose is darker than anyone can imagine. Together, Norton Weiss, Emmett Fielding, and Roger Burlington try to counter the growing incidents of intimidation and destruction. But after an evening of unspeakably brutal murders, the whole town - both the living and the dead - has to strike back, using every strange skill and hidden secret at its disposal. With Darkness in the Valley, author Gregory Miller has crafted a spellbinding novel, bringing back familiar characters from The Uncanny Valley and introducing many new ones, all of whom are indispensable to this small borderland community balanced precariously on the edge of two worlds.

Three Drops in Time by Tony Jones 4.4 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 19 minutes ago

Three short stories with a common theme - time travel! In Time Enough For Money, Lawrence does what anyone would consider doing if they knew the future, he wins the lottery. Why is he still not happy? In Destiny Calling, Thomas has a life changing decision to make. What he doesn't need it more advice... The final, and longest story, Parallels, shows how Jack Shaw copes when his unusual power comes to the attention of the government and the mysterious MI 42! REVIEW from Strangerviews.com "Three Drops in Time consists of three short stories, written by Tony Jones, each of which uses time travel as a main element to the plot. I would like to start by admitting my jealousy of the author. Writing short stories is tough and to be able to write three such well plotted short stories with distinct and well rounded characters deserves applause. I know I couldn't do it."

I highly recommend Klaus for the whole family, July 10, 2011 By Readers Favorite "Book Reviews and Award Contest" (Hawesville, KY USA) - Reviewed by Anne B. Have you ever wondered how Santa Klaus met Mrs. Klaus? Michelle Erickson brings readers a delightful story of a princess and a carpenter. Eralee's father is a River King and her mother is a Queen. They live in the forest of Everaude, a world filled with immortals and the Rashim (deer). Her parents planned a marriage for her to a river prince. She had no desire to marry him. When she saw a human freezing to death in the woods, she wanted to save him, although it was forbidden by her people. The reader watches as Klaus and Eralee fall in love. Throughout this enchanted story the reader learns the answers to many Santa questions. The reader also meets several incredible secondary characters such as Dasher, Dancer and Vixen. Erickson explains why reindeer can fly and why their antlers glow. Eralee refused to give up the man she loves, no matter the cost. Erickson combines romance, adventure, suspense, and humor to create one of the best Christmas tales I've ever read. Eralee's antics were very funny and her innocence was extremely heartwarming. This book will become a family favorite. I can see this tale making it to TV as a Christmas special. I highly recommend Klaus for the whole family... Eralee is a misfit among immortals. Complete Dehydrator Cookbook: Delicious Dehydrator Recipes Including Making Vegetables, Fruits, Meat, Tea & More by Ann Gibbs 4.7 Stars (19 Reviews)    Price verified 19 minutes ago

Do you want to dehydrate food and retain the maximum nutrition? Are you looking for ways to use dehydrated foods as ingredients in tasty recipes? Wish you could prepare clean foods without excess salt and additives? This complete dehydrator cookbook is just right for you, whether you stick to a healthy eating, a farmer interested in dehydrating food from the garden or farm, a caring parent, or a camper wishing your food to be carried out and prepared easily. This makes the food last longer than they would if they had their moisture, but it doesn't affect other nutrients in any way. You can put a sliced up apple inside the device, and it will still have all of its iron, sugar, fiber, and vitamins. This is the reason why many health-conscious people prefer dehydrated foods rather than cooked meals. The prepared food can be used for up to 2 to 3 years. If you have a surplus of any ingredients, a smart way to preserve them would be dehydrating. What is more, preserving fruits and vegetables for the off-season is a great way to be more sustainable. Tom Brantley, A.K.A. SuperDrunk, is a complex superhero (or perhaps anti-hero?) who discovers that he has the unique power of psychokinesis whenever getting drunk or high. Revered as Burlington City's guardian, he loves to put on a show for his beloved fans when saving lives and fighting crime, almost as much as partying and fornicating. Despite the citizens egging on his reckless behavior, his family and friends worry about his failing health. With each alcohol-induced blackout, Tom revisits his high school years. He recalls meeting his first love, Amy Cougar, and how she couldn't handle his shallow, celebrity lifestyle. But after consuming psychedelics - shrooms or magic mushrooms - it seems like his past exists as an odd parallel reality to his present life. This sexy and thought-provoking dark superhero story takes readers over the edge and into the seedy world of SuperDrunk, where fighting bad guys and getting hot chicks might be nothing more than an escape for a washed-up loser trying to extricate himself from the realities of life. My Warped Italian Catholic Childhood: Little Rosemarie of the 50's is Confessing Sins at the Gossip window by Rosemarie Chauvin (Wandering Words Media) 3.6 Stars (54 Reviews)    Price verified 19 minutes ago

My Warped Italian Catholic Childhood is a comedic throwback to the fifties era. In this comedic memoir, Little Rosemarie is a misplaced ward of the times. Her attempt to adapt to the traditions of her culture, coupled with the dogma of the Catholic church is overwhelming. Because the tale is narrated through the eyes of an innocent child; her recollections are even funnier and engaging. Little Rosemarie trudges through her daily life questioning her puzzling existence. Guilt, sin, the devil, the lack of sex education, and the unmerciful instruction of The Sisters Of Mercy befuddle the sprite. She implores Jesus to submit to her wiles by bribing Him! The Blessed Mother is her go-to-Jesus-ally. The devil is her comrade when it fits her situation. She realizes that her family is dysfunctional, but can't figure out the definitive answers or origination of the flaws. Her grandfather must have been the culprit -- he was a mean, angry man. He initiated the craziness. The gossip window is the predominant and popular form of communication of the times. Come sit at the window. Lend her your ear. Little Rosemarie is about to confess her innermost secrets. If you don't care to laugh and enjoy a fun tale of the times. Stop reading. On the other hand, if you can relate or have lived the experience with the Italian/Catholic tradition, continue on and purchase the narrative. If you like history and are curious about past eras to compare and contrast; and have a laugh sensor in your brain; this story is for you. This religious comedy is refreshing, unique, and at times shocking! Disappointed, you will not be. Scroll down and click the purchase button.

The Secret of Monument Valley (Trail of the Anasazi) (Florea and Holland Mystery Series Book 2) by Mark Stephen Taylor (Createspace) 3.5 Stars (20 Reviews)    Price verified 19 minutes ago

In about 1450 AD, an exceedingly prosperous generation of Native Americans, known then as the Anasazi, vanished from their strongholds in the American Southwest--disappeared without so much as a trace. However, the Native Americans of the present day Navajo Nation dispute the theoretical findings of modern day archeologists and anthropologists. In fact, the Navajos claim that a sovereign remnant of the Anasazi currently dwells among them! Based on actual accounts from Native American residents of the Navajo Nation, award-winning author Mark Stephen Taylor thrusts his characters into the heart of this most interesting controversy. What they must endure is indeed most shocking. What they will find is most profoundly enlightening!

The Motorcycle Killer: The Life of Serial Killer Tiago Henrique Gomes de Rocha (Serial Killers Book 9) by Jack Smith (Maplewood Publishing) 4.3 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 33 minutes ago

The scariest thing about serial killers is that they are actual people. Tiago Henrique Gomes da Rocha is among Brazil's most prolific serial killers. This is his story. Look at how far a human can go into the depth of heinous crimes. Download FREE with Kindle Unlimited For Brazil, Tiago Henrique Gomes da Rocha is the monster in the deceptive mask, the handsome man with the suave persona that fooled so many. He is a good-looking young man, 6'4" with brown hair and brown eyes, who is considered a decent person by those who know him. Although he was a quiet child, and he kept to himself even in adulthood, he had all the physical qualities that women find attractive. Unfortunately, this fact undoubtedly helped him become the most murderous serial killer the city of Goiânia, in Brazil, had ever known. As a security guard, he was a man trained and paid to protect people. Yet, by the time he was 29, Gomes da Rocha had murdered some 39 people and committed at least 90 armed robberies. His demeanor and lifestyle aroused no suspicions, and his nightmare rampage lasted four years before he was finally caught. His good looks and unassuming personality were not the only reason he got away with his crimes for so long. His murder victims were random; his modus operandi fluctuated between stabbing, shooting, and choking; and his favored outfit made identifying him difficult. Dressed all in black, wearing a black helmet and riding a black motorcycle with stolen license plates, he easily avoided identification, and he never hinted that he could possibly have a dark side to anyone who knew him. Inner Voices: Making Mindful Decisions by Brian Paley 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 19 minutes ago

Have you ever wondered why you made certain critical life decisions such as whom to marry or what career to choose? Have you ever wondered why the actions of some people seem to be driven by irrational or obviously destructive behaviors due to phobias or addictions? This book offers a model for both how we make decisions and why we make the decisions we do. The model consists of a number of components that we will refer to as "inner voices" that cooperate or compete for our attention and thus drive our actions. Each of these inner voices present different objectives, sometimes driven by evolutionary pressures or events of which we have had no direct experience. Each inner voice is also on its own journey toward the future, so it is no wonder that the discourse is often confusing, and reaching a final decision is often difficult. This discourse often causes stress, anxiety, and depression. Popular techniques such as mindful meditation attempt to provide temporary relief from these symptoms by tuning out your inner voices. Rather than ignoring what your inner voices are telling you, this book will enable you to get to know them on a first name basis. If you listen to and understand what your inner voices are saying, you should be better equipped to harness the complete power of your mind to make better decisions. The model for how our mind works is presented in a structured and easy-to-understand fashion so that the reader needs no knowledge of the physiology of the human brain.

TAKING MY LIFE BACK: Based on a True Story by Denis Murphy (Happy and Fun Lifestyle, LLC) 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 44 minutes ago

Taking my Life Back by Denis Murphy depicts an insightful journey of how to break away from the social stigma and mental labels that have branded us since childhood. The story begins in rural France where the main character experiences a mental break from reality. This break from reality ultimately leads to some fundamental questions coming to the surface. These questions are the initial thoughts that create the journey ahead. Throughout the book the author articulates some of the personal trials he was faced with as he navigates his way through paranoia, hallucinations and addictive behaviours. In doing so he creates a structure for those individuals looking to overcome the traumatic me-against-the-world/kill-or-be-killed mentality in favour of gaining the emotional intelligence needed to rewrite the script, plot and setting of their past, present and future. If you're the type of person who's ready to truly find your own distinct self as opposed to striving to become what you think society and other people want you to be then reading Taking my Life Back will bring you closer to a lifestyle of becoming an optimist of opportunity in even the smallest of moments rather than staying deluded by the perceived difficulty of every day tasks. Where Did They Go? 2nd Edition: Helping Children Understand A Loved One’s Passing by Katrina-Jane (Shanti Publishing) 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 19 minutes ago

In this 2nd edition the identity of who has passed is nonspecific and can be used to help a child understand the passing of a grandmother, uncle, or pet or anyone in between. You may not see the soul, but it always travels with you. Touching, profound and poignant, this book strives to help you to help your children understand where a loved one or special pet goes when they pass on, sometimes unexpectedly. For children the world can seem like a big place, full of wonder, excitement and fun. But there are times when life's more serious side can enter into their lives, perhaps sooner than we would wish for them. Bereavement is one such time and, while we would like to shield them from the pain as much as possible, it is also a fundamental part of life and must be faced. It is something which does not always have to be a negative. It can be used to help heal wounds and bring a new perspective to a child's viewpoint. This book helps to deal with just that. It gently, and with great sensitivity, explains to children where we go when we die, reminding them that this is only ever temporary and that wherever they go, the spirit of their loved one or pet travels with them always.

God Did Not Speak Out Loud to the Old Testament Saints by James Thomas Lee Jr 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 19 minutes ago

This short book has been written to share a couple of very important spiritual truths. The first, called the eternality of Bible truth, maintains that every word of the Bible has always been true even before it was spoken or written. The second truth is that the Old Testament saints probably did not hear God's audible, out loud voice. That simple statement is not meant to sound heretical. Those words are also not meant to deny anything that Christians have traditionally believed about God. The real message is that what we have many times just accepted as truth in the Bible may in fact not be the truth at all. Just because most people would immediately think that God spoke out loud to Noah, Abraham, Moses, and the other Old Testament saints, it does not mean that He did. This book is not overly complicated. But the hope is that each reader will carefully and prayerfully consider the truths that are being conveyed. In many ways, people living in these current times have many benefits that they tend to take for granted. Because people today have easy access to the Bible, the natural assumption is that people in all generations have always had easy access to the Bible. But that simply is not true. So rather than trying to push any kind of anti-Christ or anti-God teachings on anyone, the real desire is to cause people today to really think about and try to understand what it was like to live for the Lord hundreds or even thousands of years ago before all of the benefits of today were available. The desire in this work most definitely is to challenge what most Christians have just assumed to be true for many years. This short book is an excerpt from another book that I wrote entitled A Bible-based Argument Against Calvinism. The desires with that book as well as with this book are to help people better understand Bible truth.

WHEN WALLS TALK: Why Women Kill by Alexa Keating 4.5 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 44 minutes ago

Why do women, the nurturers who typically encourage and support their loved ones suddenly become killers? For some, it is not sudden; it is the last stop before their own murder. For many, the reasons lie squarely within the confines of greed, jealously and rage. 'When Walls Talk' begins at the gates of the Ohio Reformatory for Women where Lauren, an Investigative Journalist, was assigned to complete a newspaper series titled, 'Why Women Kill.' It provides up close and personal details about the thoughts and actions behind 5 different murders, as related by the women who committed them. There is both horror and gore and details that can only be repulsive, and there is the human side of people who appear to have made inhumane choices. There is a trail of broken dreams and little hope in the lives of the people who arrive at the prison gates. Indeed, it is a broken road that leads to those towering fences with rolls of barbed wire and the slamming of those gates.

Xavie: Melody Of The Night by David Schaefer 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 19 minutes ago

The year is 1935, during the very heart of America's Great Depression. Randal Knox has been wandering the country looking for any sort of work to keep body and soul together. His journey has taken him from his home in upstate New York to a tiny backwater deep in the bayous of Louisiana called Bailey Bottoms. Knox is willing to take on any job, no matter how large or small, but he also has one advantage... he is a talented violin teacher. He has found that, even in the toughest of times, people are still willing to pay what they can for his musical services. One such unlikely music student is a pint-sized ball of fire named Rainy Breaux... all of six years old and certainly a mystery in and of herself... who serves him coffee at a local diner and offers to do his laundry in exchange for violin lessons. She has vowed to learn to play the fiddle, as she calls it, "as good as that girl." Knox soon finds himself smack in the middle of a mystery no one alive could ever have imagined. He also finds himself hopelessly in love with... "that girl"... from the very moment he lays eyes on her... the most amazing and mysterious person he has ever met in his young life. Hired by her father to teach this strange girl to play the violin, Knox must first find the key to unlocking the mystery of how she has somehow managed to ensnare all of Bailey Bottoms in a conspiracy of silence. In his fourth novel, David Schaefer has taken us back to a much simpler place in time, when dirt poor, rural communities looked out for their own and local gossip spread like wild fire through the wagging tongues of a nameless, faceless grapevine. Bailey Bottoms turns out to be a community like no other.

Are you experiencing trouble sleeping well at night or staying asleep? Do you wake up throughout the night and feel restless in the morning? Sleep is something that everyone should consider more than normal. Most adults today at best have an average of six or seven. When you lose sleep, your body automatically starts looking for additional calories to make up for sleep and give your body sufficient energy to get through the day. Lack of sleep also regulates the body's quantity of fat and how your appetite functions. Your sleep pattern will have full control over your eating schedule, so if you want to lose weight, it is important that you have enough rest. No lunch try to choose protein every morning and any fruit you can even sprout during your morning travel will be enough. Health sleep disorders are becoming more prevalent. The use of drugs can cause side effects that lead to poor sleep. And older people suffer from more sleeping medical and mental conditions. The good news is that all of these sleep problems can be handled effectively. Good sleep at any age is possible. The key is to understand the changes in our sleep as we grow old and then get to the root cause of problems. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is a well-known evidence-based treatment used for anxiety and depression. It's been around for almost five decades now so there's a huge chance that you've already heard about it. Aside from the conditions mentioned, CBT is also used for the treatment of chronic pain, as well as a host of other emotional and mental ailments. Use bedtime stories to fall asleep and help your mind relax. Enjoy and have a nice rest!

Lead to Leadership: The Essence of Positive Leadership by Chris Peterson 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 19 minutes ago

Do you want to be a leader instead of a manager? Is it your goal to have a positive impact on the world? Are you looking to improve your leadership skills to inspire your team? Leadership is the glue that unites the world. Great leaders make an impact on the world, especially positive leaders like Mandela, Gandi, or John F. Kennedy. We need leaders in our societies, in companies, organizations, family, and even groups of friends to bring people together towards better outcomes. Positive leadership distinguishes successful organizations from the rest. It provides you with the power to unite people around a vision, a vision they will fight for as if it were their own. Inspired and motivated team members are a hundred times more effective than employees driven by money and personal interests. While the first will make the extra mile for the success of the organization, the second will only consider the relationship between their effort and their reward, disregarding the group. "Lead to Leadership" series will teach how to become a great leader, to embrace leadership as a lifestyle, and use it to empower others and improve their lives. You will become a leader at work, with your family and group in your group of friends and you will have the answers to lead them to success. For many years, I have studied and practiced leadership. As an entrepreneur, I understood pretty early that the success of my business would be directly correlated with my leadership skills. After a lot of work and lots of mistakes, I know what works and what does not in terms of leadership approaches, what is important to be a great leader, and how to inspire and motivate my team members. Furthermore, I learned first hand how can you find and develop new leaders in your teams, leaders that will help you spread your vision further than you could ever expect on your own. Positive leadership, with honesty empathy, and initiative, can change the world and make it a better place. I'm glad to ...

Having survived a coal mine cave-in, undercover Pinkerton detective Matt Ansaro is recovering from a broken leg. However, the union has called a coal strike, and Matt needs to walk a thin line to remain undercover and not let his employers know Matt is working in his hometown of Eckart Mines, Maryland. The 1922 national coal strike is even more violent in the Western Maryland coal fields as the non-union miners make an all-out effort to unionize. As strikebreakers are brought in to replace striking miners, tension turns into violence between Pinkerton agents and union miners. Matt is caught between both sides as he pretends to be a miner among his family and friends while funneling information to his employers. To make matter worse another Pinkerton agent knows who Matt is. David Lakehurst has a grudge against Matt and is determined to settle a score with him. Joseph McCord, the mine superintendent in Eckhart Mines, is more than happy to let Lakehurst attack miners as long as it keeps his mine operating. He is also seducing Matt's former girlfriend, Laura Spencer. While this worries Matt, he has more than enough problems from the other women in his life. His girlfriend Samantha Havencroft has caught the eye of a young college professor, and he may have caught Samantha's attention as well. Matt's aunt, Toni Starner, knows Matt's secret and is uncertain how to handle it. Jenny Washington, Matt's friend, is trying to make a new life for herself but can't get past what Lakehurst did to her. From the author of the Canawlers series comes a new American historical novel. Ethical Codes and Income Distribution: A Study of John Bates Clark and Thorstein Veblen (Routledge Studies in the History of Economics Book 79) by Guglielmo Forges Davanzati (Routledge) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 19 minutes ago

In contemporary non-mainstream economic debate, it is widely thought that the functioning of a market economy needs a set of rules (i.e. institutions) which bind agents in their behaviour, allowing efficient outcomes. This idea is contrary to the General Equilibrium Model (GEM) where markets are pictured as working in an institutional vacuum and where social and historical variables play no role. However, in more recent times, a large group of economists have begun to insert social and moral variables into standard models based on the rational choice paradigm, following the increasing interest - on the part of firms - in the possible positive effects of adopting ethical codes. In this key new text Guglielmo Davanzati studies this burgeoning view that ethics and economics can be compatible. Does 'morality' affect income distribution? And, if so, what are the effects of the widespread adoption of ethical codes on the functioning of the labour market? Central to Davanzati's efforts is the thesis that the roots of these new developments can be traced back to the pioneering work of Thorstein Veblen and John Bates Clark. Utilizing their contrasting works, Davanzati's text illuminates the propagation of ethical codes within the two opposing frameworks i.e. the neoclassical and the institutional. Davanzati's important book will be an invaluable reference for readers interested in history of economic thought, economics and moral philosophy.
