Stary by Michael Sichok Price verified 7 hours ago

Nadya Illyushin spends her teenage days at Institution, like most young residents of Stary Sovok. Stary is a bleak colony of Russkaya Amerika, established several hundred years ago, after the Great Intercontinental War of 1983. Nadya's nights are spent caring for her widowed, State-employed father and enjoying the company of her sparkling younger sister, Saski. She has never known anything outside of the lackluster world of State-regulated life: an existence of overly restrictive regulation, meager survival, and dependency upon a bureaucracy, which is ever so callously referred to as "Betterment." That is, however, until she stumbles upon a mysterious place in the forest - that changes everything, about her past, present and future. Nadya uncovers a secret place of escape - an alternate, parallel reality, where truths are revealed and destinies changed in unpredictable ways. She soon learns that the price of change does not come easily, but once the constraints of rote Stary life have been stripped away, Nadya takes the first steps into realizing her own pivotal role in shaping the future, all while navigating the all-too-human process of self-discovery into adulthood. Previously available as individual acts: Nadeyat'sya, Neizbezhnyy and Natsionalist, Stary unites these beautiful, sensory and sensual works into one complete- and completely unforgettable, package. As Stary Trilogy, the groundbreaking, passionate YA series opened with the heartbreaking, mesmerizing tale of hope: Nadeyat'sya, then found its inevitability through the dark, sexy, tear-filled Neizbezhnyy, and then burned with the astonishing, explosive conclusion, Natsionalist. Powerful and sensory, Stary may appear at first glance as dystopian fiction, yet it literally cannot be pigeonholed under any one genre. It reads as a romantic, fictional memoir told in first-person by a very unique and identifiable eighteen-year-old girl, Nadya, in such an engaging fashion that reading and re-reading the book ...

The Cornerstone by Bill Stenlake Price verified 8 hours ago

Cornerstone is another Cornish based story by Bill Stenlake. Cador Krev's family are an old Cornish family. His parents have given him an old Cornish name. Cador was involved in an accident at work. One of his colleagues died while Cador and one other were badly burned and scarred for life. It takes him two years to be fit enough to decide whether he wants to go back to work or move on to a new challenge. With compensation in his pocket he decides to move to Cornwall, the home of his ancestors. While looking for a property he stays at a private Hotel in Perranporth which was recommended by his surgeon.. On his first night he is nearly run down by an out of control car. The family who own the Hotel become involved in trying to help him and protect him too. Events lead Cador to believe he is the target for one family's resentment and loss. He finds out he is the beneficiary of a will which appears to be where the hate comes from. Everything seems to centre around the Cornerstone which is an innocuous stone in the corner of a cemetery on the estate. It is believed the Cornerstone holds the key to why the Krevit mines were so successful in the 1700's compared to the other mines in the area. The secret is there to be told in a book about the Cornerstone but no one knows where it is. The story deals with Cador's efforts to resolve the situation today and also eventually goes right back to the middle of the 1700's when Troudemons Hall was built as Cador follows a trail of clues to uncover the meaning of the Cornerstone, a secret that has remained uncovered for well over 200 years

The Dogon Initiative (The Deniables Book 1) by Lance Morcan (Sterling Gate Books) Price verified 9 hours ago

A group of foreign mercenaries hired as deniable assets by a newly-formed humanitarian division of the CIA is tasked with saving Mali's persecuted Dogon people from genocide. The operation must be carried out in stealth while journeying across some of West Africa's most hostile terrain. As if all that's not enough, they are also instructed to help solve an ancient astronomical mystery linked to the pyramids of Egypt. Mission impossible? Duh! Nicknamed the Deniables because their existence isn't officially acknowledged by the CIA, the mercenaries are crazy enough to accept the mission anyway. However, they soon find themselves fighting for their lives when they get caught in the middle of warring ethnic factions in Mali. Their only way to survive is to join with the Dogon in a race against the clock. The stakes are so high that not only could an entire indigenous group be wiped off the face of the Earth, but all evidence that supports advanced ancient technology theories surrounding the Dogon and a lost civilization thesis may be destroyed in the process. Inspired by a true-life mystery of astronomy, THE DOGON INITIATIVE highlights some of the many myths and theories surrounding the fascinating Dogon people of Mali. In particular, their unexplained knowledge of the invisible-to-the-eye Sirius B white dwarf star, the rings of Saturn and other heavenly bodies, and their rumored ancestral relationship to ancient Egyptians. THE DOGON INITIATIVE is the ninth novel by father-and-son writing team Lance and James Morcan. Their previous works of fiction include the bestselling historical epics White Spirit and Into the Americas, as well as their modern thrillers Silent Fear and The Orphan Trilogy.

Floor 6R by Harlan J. Hunter 4.5 Stars (24 Reviews)    Price verified 17 minutes ago

Life can be as slippery as brown motor oil on melting ice when making decisions that can change our lives forever. Do you remember any decisions like that? Perhaps it was the day you didn't buckle your seat belt because you were just going down to the corner fast food restaurant. Maybe it was when you replied to a text while you were driving and your eyes danced back and forth from the road to your phone. Did your life change that cold rainy night while you were driving and a fast approaching traffic light turned yellow? You pulled the trigger and punched the gas pedal in your car which made you feel like a bullet rifling down a gun barrel to speed through the light not seeing the other car pulling out of the gas station? All of the above scenarios involve making decisions. In many cases, we have time to ponder over what decisions we will make; however, we also find ourselves every day making split second decisions. These snap decisions are made as fast as a tripped mousetrap and can have the biggest impact on our lives in either a positive or a negative way. Important decisions can be good or bad and run hot and cold like a hot water tank after a 10-minute shower. I also acknowledge that we live in a cold random universe in which each one of us lives in a sea of variables. Taking away this randomness brings us back to the endless decisions we make that can change our lives forever. That happened numerous times at an old hotel in South Florida. The Palm Tree Inn is a beautiful and charming hotel that was built in 1923. Recently there have been several unexplained disappearances of some of the hotel's guests. What caused these people to vanish without a trace like in some magic act with a big gray puff of smoke? Where did they go? How did their families cope with these painful circumstances? All that it takes to start the chain reaction or domino effect in the story is making a wrong snap decision, a hotel elevator, a spooky hotel floor that hasn't been used for ...

Welcome to the Galaxy: or, How I Learned to Appreciate the Importance of a Good Flocking by Martin Tabat 4.1 Stars (23 Reviews)    Price verified 17 minutes ago

Welcome to the Galaxy is a humorous science fiction story set in the very near future. It begins when a travelling, snake-oil-style, junk dealer named Quane arrives at Earth to sell a dilapidated stardrive engine as a stolen museum piece. Coincidentally, he looks like the devil. So he hand sews a ragged dog costume as a disguise to prevent frightening his human customers and gain their trust. Of course, the derelict engine breaks down shortly after departure of the inaugural human expedition to the stars and maroons the crew in a gravitational dimension known as Dark Space. That sets off a chain of human blunders, alien misunderstandings, and evolutionary coincidences which combine to raise Earth's status from a jerk-water planet in the galactic backwater to one of the richest and most influential in the galaxy. Welcome to the Galaxy is written with enough attention to scientific detail to satisfy hard core science fiction readers, but in a humorous style that makes the science easily accessible to all. Welcome to the Galaxy also establishes a fundamentally new and novel method for interstellar travel that does not involve warp drives or wormholes. And check out the sequel Welcome to the Universe and its companion spinoff Generating Effluence available now as ebooks and paperbacks.
