Schrödinger's City by Matthew Buscemi 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 7 minutes ago

A semi-finalist for the 2017 Cygnus Award People appear in City. People disappear from City. And upon both entering and leaving, no one remembers their names. On the surface of a sphere twenty kilometers in diameter, beneath a sky of swirling blue that offers light without a sun, there lies a city like no other. Hodgepodge personalities eke out something akin to survival, even a meager form of community. But City's streets have begun to change abruptly, and one individual has left City of his own free will. A path through frightening chaos leads either to opportunity or the further erosion of City's bleary existence. A philosopher and a waitress both seek answers, in their own ways and in their own times. Just as their paths diverge, so are they one in the same. For in City, perception itself has the effect of altering reality, and surviving the calamity will depend not so much on what its citizens do, as what they notice.

Battle On The Marathon by John Thornton 4.8 Stars (7 Reviews)    Price verified 7 minutes ago

UPDATED 7-18-2017 in preparation for the audio version launch! Audio version is narrated by the excellent Chuck DiMaria. The Colony Ship Marathon left a dying Earth on a generations long voyage to another planet. Inside its giant biomes were people who would spend their entire lives during that flight. They knew that their descendants would be the people who would arrive at the destination world. Life in those biomes was as close to life on Earth as possible, including ecologies, plants, animals, and families. In its own way, those biomes were idyllic. Additionally, tens of thousands of people would make the journey in suspended animation to be awakened on the destination planet. During the long journey, something went wrong. Something else was on the Marathon. This book chronicles the life of one habitat dweller, Kalju, as he becomes aware of his role in what is taking place. How will the battle on the Marathon end? This is a stand-alone book set in John Thornton's Colony Ship Universe.

EMPTY CASKETS: Terran Patrol Book One by Lewis Dually 4.6 Stars (51 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

An inquiry into the death of Specialist Granger Shelton has concluded and Skipper Allen Paul is officially cleared of culpability in the Spaceman's death. He is also promoted to Commander and placed back in command of the Navy's oldest, and in his opinion, finest space cruiser, the United Earth Ship, Dawn Rising. Now, as he wrestles with his grief over the loss of Granger Shelton, he is also troubled by a discovery made while escorting Granger's body home to Texas. While transferring shuttles in Houston, Paul observes three caskets returning from the asteroid belt's mining colonies. That ,in itself, is not unusual as working in the asteroid belt is inherently dangerous, but his curiosity peaks when he realizes the caskets contain no bodies! Before he can investigate farther, the Navy sends him on a secret mission for the Planetary Defense Agency who tasks him with locating members of an alien species thought to be hiding in the asteroid belt. Never one to let sleeping dogs lie, Paul uses his mission as an excuse to open three of the mining company's unoccupied caskets and discovers a direct link between the contents of the caskets and the alien species he is tasked with finding. A conspiracy is now afoot, and the search broadens as he teams up with a veteran Texas lawman, a Navy Seals team, and his protege, the newly minted Skipper of the Navy's newest ship, Lieutenant Commander, Gail Ann Schmidt of the Crimson Moon. Together, they uncover a decades-old conspiracy whose fruition is at hand.

Sleepers (Convergence Book 0) by Stephen Landry (Protoss) 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

The day the demons came we all fell asleep. 2/3 of the Earth's population didn't wake up. Others like myself were different. Transformed by some alien power. They sat at the edge of our solar system drifting towards our home. With our new powers, we were all that stood between those we had to protect and the end of the world. The fire from my match flickered in the middle of the night as you woke up next to me screaming. It felt almost as if time itself had slowed to a halt. Already we had been married for a week and it seemed nothing could stop us. Your eyes had turned a pasty white that night as your small petite and fragile limbs cracked as you stood waist up in our bed. Your jaw stood crooked as you slowly tilted your head studying the room around you. The room was yours just as it had always been. Zombie and fantasy posters hung on the wall lit by a black light you kept running 24/7. Your brother and I tried our best to keep it the same for you before you fell away from us into the dreaming. Two-thirds of the Earths population went to sleep that night but not before delivering a message. Some told it in tongues while others spoke in dead languages no one could understand. You were one of the few that said it clear as day. I will never forget it, your voice as it cracked and groaned as your eyes met mine and I tried my best to wake you hoping you were only experiencing a night terror or that this whole thing has been a part of some bad dream. I failed and all I could do was listen as you repeated again and again, "we are coming". Five years have passed since the day of your possession and now you lay still less in a coma aboard the Earth's first starship. You rest quietly in stasis as your brother not much older than I along with a thousand more survivors begin our deceleration toward what we have christened the Lamia, a daemon warship. Five years we have prepared for this day. This, our final stand against the daemons since they announced their ...

Because he's had a taste of me, and I sure as heck made sure to have a taste of him, as unfamiliar with that notion though he was. And it seems neither of us is quite done with our meal yet... Designed to be read in a couple of hours, these fun, steamy, gorgeously-curvy girl stories are for adults only! The Warriors of Crasasi are served up in three searingly-hot, bite-sized morsels. Because you can only... handle... so much at a time. Which means-dun-dun-dun... Yes. Cliffhanger. Because, sometimes, delayed gratification is everything :-)

Cities on Fire: A Family's Apocalypse This is a tale about how the Karr family survives and meets the challenges thrown at them during the early days of the Apocalypse. There have been nuclear and EMP attacks on the USA and most of the world. The Apocalypse has caught the world by surprise. Cities and countries are on fire. The USA has been reduced to burned-out cities, the grid is down and society has reverted backward 150 years. Food and drinkable water are scarce. The US Government is no longer able to help or protect its citizens. Millions are dying. In "Cities on Fire," several of the Karr family members have to travel long distances to reach the family bugout location and encounter death and destruction along the way. Could you walk hundreds of miles in a short time to get the jump on the hordes of people flocking from the cities to the countryside to find food? Could you kill to protect your family from criminals? Worse yet could you kill good God-fearing people who would kill you or your family just to get food to feed their starving family? The Karrs live through these situations and get stronger day by day. The Karr family has a mixture of old school preppers, conservatives, and liberals that make for an interesting blend of personalities, opinions, and sometimes even volatility. They are able to hate the sin but always love the sinner who disagrees with them. They have each other's backs through thick and thin.

The Time Travel Diaries Trilogy: From the Time Travel Diaries of James Urquhart and Elizabeth Bicester by Bruce Macfarlane (Aldwick publishing) 4.5 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 19 hours ago

There are two things you need to know about James Urquhart, science lecturer living in the 21st century and Elizabeth Bicester, Victorian Cambridge graduate. They both keep diaries and due to a quirk in space-time they met each other at a cricket match at Hamgreen in 1873. Surprisingly, James, who is just your average confused modern guy, finds Elizabeth is no Victorian prude, who wins him at every turn and returns his quickfire wit with equal gusto. It therefore takes a while and some considerable discussion regarding each other's customs and manners before they realise, they are from different times. And only a little longer to fall in love. Thus, they'd rather be at home snuggled up reading a book or watching telly. Unfortunately, due to their inquisitive nature about saving the world from being taken over by social media, they find themselves buffeted about in time and alternative universes. This is not easy. Trying to make sure you have the right clothes for the period is really important and don't mention horse riding to James or why Elizabeth can drive a Martian space ship better than he can. Then H G Wells keeps appearing to give them advice they didn't know they needed. And as for the Martians, who can see the future; who knows what their plan is? Luckily a Professor Rolleston found the diaries clasped together in the attic of Elizabeth's home at Hamgreen. After much work, when he wasn't hunting fairies, he managed to make some sense of them and compiled the diaries in the form of narration so that James and Elizabeth could tell their own story. Here he has produced the first three books, of the humorous and sometimes romantic adventures of James Urquhart and Elizabeth Bicester.

Flatlined: Science Fiction/Mystery/Suspense by John Meany 3.8 Stars (32 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

Before losing control of the car I heard Annie yell, "No! No way! No! Luke! Luke! Turn the wheel back! Turn the wheel back!" The car skidded on the wet pavement, fishtailed. Then we crashed into the tree. Boom! All thoughts stopped. The medics rushed me to the trauma center. The next thing I remember I was suddenly floating above my body, I heard the cardiac monitor flat line, indicating that either my heart had just stopped or that I had died. I wasn't frightened though. No. In fact, I felt fine. I experienced a tremendous sense of calm, well-being and painlessness. My body might have been in trouble, but not me. As I watched the operating procedure from the ceiling, aware that I no longer had any attachment to my physical self, none whatsoever, I realized I had become a mist, a vapor, a subatomic particle, something. I hovered in the air, near the ultraviolet lights like a crumb on the back of a moth. I was still in tune with my senses, actually, I was more in tune with them than I had ever been; my senses were heightened. Among the handful of surgeons and assistants, all of whom were dressed in green gowns and caps, there seemed to be a lot agitation. The medical team worked on my injured body in a decidedly critical manner. The fact that I had just flat lined had caused a great deal of confusion. Extraordinarily, the next thing I became aware of was two ghostly beings, which were human-like in that these phantasmagoric beings were shaped like people. Based on the mold of their bodies I could distinguish that one of the beings was male, the other was a female. These entities were floating in the air with me, hovering near the ceiling. However, they made no distinguishable sound; all I could hear was the surgeons down below talking among one another.

Sarisart: Book One (Andrin's Paradox 1) by C. J. Boyle (createspace) 4.6 Stars (17 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

A special forces troop and an ordinary woman are transported to another planet through a wormhole forcing them to work together to survive. Imagine being forced onto a plane by a bunch of mercenaries and then crash-landing on another planet. That is what happened to Sara Newman and it was all thanks to her father and an alien named Andrin. After they crashed it became obvious that they were on another planet when they saw two suns in the sky. It made it incredibly hot during the day. First and foremost, they needed to survive. They had to find shelter and they had to do it fast. The planet seemed to be dry and mostly barren until they found a large forest. It took them a day's hike to get there and it took its toll on Sara. The men were used to harsh conditions. They were no strangers to the wilderness or survival and they all seemed to take it all in stride. She wasn't a soldier but she was smart and she wasn't about to be told what to do by anyone, much less Colonel Strickland. He was a hard-ass, no-nonsense leader of a pack of men that he referred to as 'The Boy Scouts' and he wasn't about to take any crap from her. Strickland practically raised all of the scouts and they were completely loyal to him. They would do whatever he told them to do, without question. Once they were in the forest survival was their main goal. In order to do that they had to find food and water. Which was easier said than done. The water was the easy part. There was a river nearby. But food was going to be hard to come by. One couldn't just pick a berry and eat it. There was a process. It didn't take Sara very long to realize that she was woefully outnumbered. She had horrible visions of being passed around and popping out babies that would eventually be subjected to her same fate. But even so, she wouldn't let anyone get away with treating her like a stupid woman, which did her more harm than good. Her father always taught her to stand up for herself, so that is what she did. ...

REVIEWS Written with a childlike imagination and a delightful adult twist, Tarra Light's "The Time Doctor" will appeal to all ages. The underlying metaphysical ideologies and unusual analogies kept me intrigued and laughing. --Sandra Moilanen, Environmental educator, Winston, Oregon What is "time?" We think we know, yet modern physics, remote viewing experiments, and paranormal narratives are challenging old beliefs at every turn. But let's not be too serious! With a quirky sense of the ridiculous, the author turns familiar phrases and habits of thinking on their heads, creating a lighthearted journey that challenges us, with warm humor, to open up to realities beyond what we take for granted. Menefee, Librarian and book reviewer, Ashland, Oregon Tarra's manner of writing is appealing and gets the reader enthralled right away, without taking itself too seriously and over-intellectualizing points in the theme, as many tend to do with such a huge, vast, mysterious subject as time/space! -- Cecile Poletti, Artist, Ashland, Oregon

No, everyone knew it would happen, but they weren't sure that it would. Besides, how do you kill the ones you love? We waited." After a mummified cavewoman was found deep in the permafrost of Siberia, an ancient virus was released that soon evolved half of mankind into vicious monsters that feed on anything that moved. She already knew her son, Charlie, was a Link and worried about him every day. And then they changed. The transformation was completed and the thing that everyone was afraid of happened. Adventures Inside the Moon: Book One (The Kirk Rogers Series 1) by C. J. Boyle (Createspace) 3.8 Stars (26 Reviews)    Price verified 7 minutes ago

An overconfident pilot with a stolen spaceship must fix an alien device before time runs out. The Newtonians came to Earth two thousand years ago looking for a place to call home. Earth was perfect except its Sun had a fatal flaw that needed to be corrected. Once it was fixed, they were free to abandon their ship and leave it to orbit the planet below. Earthlings commonly refer to it as The Moon. For two thousand years, Sheldor was nothing more than a highly intelligent computer program that maintained every function of Atlantis. It was a very boring and predictable job that was the same, day in, and day out. The monotony didn't bother him, nor was he aware that it was an utterly boring life. He didn't long for change or wonder when it will all end, he just did his job. It wasn't until an asteroid slammed into the side of the ship that his life changed in a dramatic way. The damage that followed prevented him from carrying out an important task. A task that would save the Earth below. Part of his programming required him to ensure the survival of the Newtonians and the many generations that followed after them. The asteroid caused a cave-in deep inside a cannon that was supposed to fire photon particles into the volatile sun and correcting its flaw. The cannon required fixing but his figurative hands were tied. He needed someone with enough Newtonian blood to unlock his controls so that he could make the repairs. He was forced to use the satellites in Earth's orbit to scan the planet below for possible candidates that he could teleport to the inside of the ship. But the process was imperfect. That's how Laura Rogers ended up inside the moon making friends with a giant spider and a man called The Dangerous One. Kirk always looked after his little sister and he would do anything to find her. Including, steal a spaceship. If you like Star Trek and Star Wars, The Kirk Rogers Series celebrates all things scifi with some familiar themes while having a unique story ...

The Girls From Alcyone by Cary Caffrey (Alcyone Studio) 4.2 Stars (445 Reviews)    Price verified 15 hours ago

Excerpt: Sigrid stood in the center of what had once been the Academy grounds on Alcyone. Now, all that remained were the burned and collapsed remnants of the school and dormitories. Smoke still wisped up from the blackened piles of lumber and debris. The stench was raw and acrid, threatening to overwhelm her sensors. "There's no way Independents did this," Christian said. "It looks like a whole battalion landed here." Frantic, Sigrid scanned the area again, searching desperately for signs of the girls, but nothing turned up in her sensory modes. She tried calling out with her comlink. If they were in range, they'd pick up the signal. But there was still nothing. Not even the orbital satellites showed any sign of the girls, or survivors for that matter. Whoever had done this had been brutal and thorough. Sigrid knew she would kill them. Synopsis: Sigrid and Suko are two girls from the impoverished and crime-infested streets of 24th century Earth. Sold into slavery to save their families from financial ruin, the girls are forced to live out their lives in service to the Kimura Corporation, a prestigious mercenary clan with a lineage stretching back long before the formation of the Federated Corporations. Known only to Kimura, the two girls share startling secret -- a rare genetic structure not found in tens of millions of other girls. But when their secret becomes known, Sigrid and Suko quickly find themselves at the center of a struggle for power. Now, hunted by men who would seek to control them, Sigrid and Suko are forced to fight for their own survival, and for the freedom of the girls from Alcyone.
