When The Stranger Came: A Suspense Thriller by John Meany 3.9 Stars (55 Reviews)    Price verified 2 minutes ago

One night in a small rural town in upstate New York, fifteen-year-old Dylan Hellenbrand, who is home alone, hears the doorbell ring. Upon inspecting the peephole, the wary teenager decides not to answer. The person standing on the porch is wearing a dark jacket with a hood. Something about the mysterious unexpected visitor doesn't feel right. A minute later as Dylan tries to pretend that no one is home, he hears, in the backyard, his German shepherd Murray barking and growling fiercely. Then to the adolescent's horror, he hears the sound of a loud boom, reminiscent of a firecracker exploding. Suddenly the dog squeals like a stuck pig. Oh no! What just happened? What was Dylan suppose to do now? Hide! Yes! Hide. That was about all he could do. Especially since Dylan had forgotten to lock the back door.

The Golden Amazon's Triumph (The Original Golden Amazon Saga Book 3) by John Russell Fearn (Endeavour Venture) Price verified 13 minutes ago

"I can personally guarantee the safety of your daughter -- and her return to you unharmed -- upon certain conditions being fulfilled... " Chris Wilson, formerly chief of staff of World Airways, is now Controller of the Dodd Space Line, an interplanetary shipping company. Mr. Rindle Emerson has come to discuss lunar ores, specifically itumen. Itumen is a special sort of ore found just below the Moon's rock pumice surface. An extremely valuable resource. Feeling very good about this proposition, Chris says goodbye to Rindle, but as he starts making calls within the company, he notices something strange about the huge cold-light globe hanging on a silver rod from the ceiling. He is being spied upon! But by who? He immediately calls Violet Ray Brant, the supergirl whom the world knew as the Golden Amazon. A woman of incredible intellect and bearing who would surely figure out what was going on. It seems than an agent, by the name of Vanmeer X-19, had been recruited by Carl Mueller to feed information out of the Dodd Space Line. But how was that possible? Carl Mueller had died five years previously. After the Nazi's were defeated, the V-rocket programme had been developed in all sorts of capacities, however Carl Mueller had been so bitter in his defeat that he had fired V-10#s from the moon to the Earth, loading their war-heads with atomic explosive. To this very day the disappearance of Malta from the world, and the ruins of Cairo, Durban, and other great cities remained as monuments to his savagery. Will Carl be successful this time? Not if Violet Ray Brant, the Golden Amazon has anything to do with it... Praise for John Russell Fearn : "... A pioneer of science fiction [... ] he was one of the Greats of the earlier ages, and his name should be there with Hugo Gernsback, John W. Campbell, Stanley G. Weinbaum, Murray Leinster, and all the others whose thoughts and works formulated today's modern science fiction." -- John Carnell, New Worlds British ...

The End May Be Much Nearer Than We Think by Lee Jr, James Thomas 2.5 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 13 minutes ago

In my adult Sunday school class on December 12, 1982, I spoke to the class about the Theory of Evolution and expressed my beliefs about how that theory is affecting our life and how it will lead to the Great Tribulation. Remarkable as such a statement may sound I believe it to be very much the truth. Therefore, I have written this book to retrace the steps that led to the above lecture and also to share my findings concerning the relationship that exists between the Theory of Evolution and the Great Tribulation. I hope to relate in this summary not just a review of that Sunday morning class but also to provide a trail of my research. Perhaps, after reading these pages, my reader will be led to conclude, as I already have, that the end may be much nearer than we think. Chapter one will present the reason for all of my research. In trying to teach the Book of Revelation, I found several questions about the Great Tribulation that I could not answer but felt should be answered. With all of those questions on my mind, I left the Book of Revelation knowing that my learning was not complete and that it would not be complete until I learned some more answers about the Tribulation. Chapter two will move away from the Tribulation for a bit and follow the class into a study of the book of Genesis. However, it will appear again based on my examination of that one book right after having studied the other. From that sequence of events, I was able to see that the accounts of those two seemingly unrelated events, Creation and the Tribulation, were drawn closer and closer. In chapter three, the Theory of Evolution will be shown to be the catalyst that will eventually set off the Great Tribulation. That chapter will discuss the devil and his tactics and also look at four reasons why the Tribulation may be near. Finally, in chapter four, the Book of Revelation will be examined again in narrative form to answer those questions that had initially been raised in chapter one. I know ...

Beyond Good & Evil: A Serial Killer Thriller (Victor Loshak Book 1) by L.T. Vargus (Smarmy Press) 4.1 Stars (111 Reviews)    Price verified 24 minutes ago

He slips through the unlocked window. Creeps down the hall. A shadow standing in the bedroom doorway. Will you wake when death comes ripping? A string of brutal home invasion murders terrifies Dade County, Florida. The killer strikes in the dead of the night, savages innocent people in their beds, wipes out entire families. He attacks at random. Rich. Poor. Young. Old. No one is safe. When the city sleeps, he comes alive. Stalks the night. Walks among us. The investigation is hopeless. There's little physical evidence to work with, and the killer's chaotic behavior makes him as unpredictable as he is dangerous. What drives someone to such violence? And how can anyone make sense of such brutality? The task force leading the investigation needs a profiler, and there's only one man for the job. Loshak. Special Agent Victor Loshak. The 53 year-old likes his Dunkin' Donuts coffee shaken, not stirred. And now, for the first time, he's on his own. But how far will this case push him? In recent years, Loshak has slowed down some. He relies on more wit than grit these days, often playing a mentor role to his partner, Violet Darger. Until now, she always had more than enough grit for both of them. But Darger isn't around this time, and a killer this aggressive will push Loshak to his limits. And beyond. Yeah, he'll need to find that grit again... or die trying. This pulse-pounding thriller will have you holding your breath until the final page. Fans of John Sandford, Karin Slaughter, Michael Connelly, and Lisa Gardner should check out the Victor Loshak series.

Star Game: Book 1, Ascension by F. P. Trotta 4.4 Stars (7 Reviews)    Price verified one hour ago

"Farscape, Red Dwarf, Blake's 7, Lexx, Babylon 5 - F. P. Trotta's book rivals the weirdest and most imaginative of sci-fi - the sanctimonious nature of the genre is nowhere to be seen. The existentialism from Carl Sagan's Contact is evident, but this is not your father's science fiction - this is Star Trek's evil twin." Zevi Ghivelder, renowned brazilian author and owner of Radio Band, on Ascension - Jul.2017. "Once you accept that you're an insignificant, inconsequential blip on the radar of time--one of billions of people to have come and gone in a few million years--and humble yourself with the idea that all you truthfully know about the universe is what other, greater men have told you from their own observations, then maybe you won't act so pompous as to declare you know all there is to know about a subject that has managed to stay in the forefront of society since time immemorial." Amanda paused for a moment and went on. "It isn't just country kooks and attention-seeking nutters that believe they've seen a ghost or had a paranormal experience. There are many learned men who would stand up to your scrutiny as upright characters, such as presidents, who have claimed to have seen spirits. Trying to lock down such a persistent, widespread phenomenon into this rationality is silly. We exist in a world where we have no idea why it is we're even here, and things in your daily life operate on a scale of normality that you've grown accustomed to - never mind the fact that several centuries ago many things you do would be considered "magic" or "abnormal." The torchbearers who brought us electricity, telephones, and computers have managed to push the darkness of ignorance back only so much, but you're making the mistake in thinking you can see the entire cave beyond the small circle of light. Now - we have a black ops agency to infiltrate." Originally published in Brazil in Early 2016, the StarGame duology by F. P. Trotta went on to move tens of thousands of ...

Undo: The Poetry and Story of HER by Cheryl R Cowtan Price verified one hour ago

How can you protect yourself and your daughter from relationship violence? Start with "her" stories. Sometimes witty, sometimes shocking, but always pro-woman empowerment, this evocative telling explores relationships gone very wrong. From the restructuring of ancient texts to vivid depictions of Canadian bush parties, this raw collection of witty stories, quirky graphics, and stunning poetry tackles male violence, coming-of-age journeys, and the female experience. Light on feminist theories, but heavy on emotional impact, you will be affected, whether through how you think about male violence or how you remember it. This book is meant and written to be evocative (to trigger emotion). The stories and poems within are meant to capture your heart, light your concern for the future of women, and maybe even change how you view victims and perpetrators. Remember, it's not about crying, it's about releasing and then, strengthening. It's not about turning away, it's about seeing that which we can barely stand, and that which we can barely understand, and then changing the view. For those who ever wished they had never said "yes" to a man, and for those who said "no", but were not heard. @~)~~~~The Plundered Bush~~~~(~@ "Did you hear what happened last night at the bush party?" Sage asks. "What?" I cloak my interest by lighting a smoke. Sucking the grey fumes in through my mouth, I show off my strong, white teeth. Then, I blow it out through my nose. Dragon fierce. "Leslie, she got raped," she says in an offhand manner. I lean forward, all my attention on her now. "What do you mean, raped?" I ask. "You know-gang raped?" She steps back, seems unsure. "Who did it?" I fist my hands and pin her against the brick wall with the intensity of my glare. "They all did." She pauses for effect like an actress. I wait for it, daring her with a narrowing of my lids. "Dayle was there, too." She drops her bomb. @~)~~~~The Knight Shift~~~~(~@ I'm sitting here ...

LOVE SONGS TO MY BRAIN: a memoir by David Orenstein 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

Love Songs To My Brain is an unconventional memoir told in poetry, dramatic dialogue, and clinical reports that present the author's journey as a seventeen-year-old suburban California boy who, on the brink of graduation from high school is diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. It documents his experience of surgeries, radiation, seizures and resultant visual deficits, hearing loss, memory problems, migraine and other neuropsychological setbacks. Parts of his subsequent development are portrayed; attempts at romance, formal education, successes and failures in the working world and growing to become a writer. This memoir has a surrealistic quality; it is by turns dreamlike, nightmarish, humorous, clinical, almost impersonal -- depicting the perseverance necessary to confront this life-changing traumatic illness and navigate a path to maturity. It is a coming-of-age story, a medical and psychological drama, and a romantic narrative of the struggle for survival with universal appeal that speaks to young people who have experienced brain illness, their families and caregivers. Ultimately, it depicts how people, with love and help, can get through just about anything.

Angels for Kids by Bermejo Thomas, Lorenzo 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

Frequently, when we ask, they tell us: "Do you want to know what an angel is? They are virtues; seek in your interior". But what does to seek in our interior mean? If we seek, we will find we are living bodies. My answer to those who ask me what's an angel is simple; I don't make them think too much, but try to answer on the basis of the experiences I've lived as if they were a story, a fable, such as Jesus did in every teaching he pronounced in front of those who listened to him from the heart. Why do I do it this way? Simply, because to speak of something as if it was a fable will open every human being's imagination at any stage of his life. And because imagining is creating, creating is believing, and believing is to have understood what we have imagined. This collection of short stories has the purpose of explaining to children -- and teenagers -- the true source of Love: that luminous essence children provide with their innocence and attachment.

Time Dilatation by Kevin Valladares 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

In the non-too distant future in America, science helps advance humanity, the protagonist Alex is the one that with his invention let humanity take with the innovation steps forward, but it is also a cautionary tale about how with this new found knowledge and experience, humanity is in danger of taking steps back, because of fear of the new things you do not understand. The theme is science, men against nature, and the seemingly eternal battle between good and evil. Time Dilatation has an interesting perspective on science, and how the scientists prove the viability of their scientific project about distance travel through a wormhole. They are transported towards a space station near the moon. With state of the art space vehicles, the scientists agree to go to a moon walk and discovered that the remains of the Apollo mission does not exist, they know they are in trouble, but when they come back to Earth they realize the magnitude of the problem. They find out that the wormhole is also a time hole, and even worse they are transported 65 million of years ago. Now, the stranded scientists must survive in prehistoric Earth, millions of years ago. They must fight ancient dinosaurs, the Tyrannosaurus, the most powerful predator and the swift Velociraptors. But when they found out that the cataclysmic event that obliterated the dinosaurs is coming to Earth through a tremendous asteroid, they must find a way to return to the future and they must find a way to survive the asteroid that destroyed the dinosaurs, 65 million years ago. But at the end, the men find out that the most dangerous enemy is not dinosaurs or extinction, but fellow man and evil itself.

LOSING THE SPOONS (The Hackings of Africa Book 3) by Gordon Orr (Gordon Thomas Orr) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

James Hacking is running a continental trucking outfit and re-opening an English airfield but when he bids for a contract in Iraq Loretta goes ballistic. A young South Africa woman running a crop-spraying operation, a downed pilot in Libya and an organized crime syndicate threatening Primrose Mpofu's stable Zimbabwean regime make further inroads on his time and threaten their relationship. A decade on from "Grasping the Nettle" James Hacking thinks he has finally got Africa out of his system. Having lost virtually all possessions in Zimbabwe after white rule collapsed, the rolling stone has slowly and painstaking gathered moss again, but he hasn't covered his tracks well enough from a deadly enemy. He and Loretta Bustamante operate a continental transport company from the UK and don't enjoy the British weather or the stress. Having talked him into re-opening a contentious disused airfield for private and commercial use, stretching their financial resources, she is enraged to find that James has started a yet more risky venture to pay for it. Their solid relationship begins to fray at the edges and each is further tempted from fidelity by a new admirer. As the rift widens their adversary closes in and an emotional bombshell from the past drags them into confrontation with the most vicious organised crime gang in Southern Africa which threatens Zimbabwe's sovereignty. President Primrose Mpofu and her advisor Simon Ndhlovu have become aware of a shadow looming that threatens to bring back another ruthless world power disguising neo-colonialism as friendship and support. James again finds the fortunes of his family influenced by events in the country of his birth, in a totally unexpected way that brings both euphoria and trepidation. Book of Samahel by Bermejo Thomas, Lorenzo 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

The Book of Samahel are the messages of more than sixty Angels. The source is controversial: while some ascertain these Angels appeared physically in what they called "glorified bodies", others acknowledge that the messages were actually "channelled" in Paiporta (Valencia, Spain), from 1987 to 1989. The three chapters contained in this ebook are only a part of the 19 chapters that form the whole book, that won't be published in its entirety until 2050. (These were the instructions given by the Angels.) Anyway these three chapters summarize perfectly the remaining content and contain messages of Love for mankind and warnings about what Humanity is doing wrong. Judge for yourselves.

Time in Our Lives by Alexa Keating 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

The donkey dug his heels in and refused to move another step. The farmer, a country man who had been living off his land for many years, was frustrated and angry. The animal was refusing to move forward into the barn, fearing the strange sensation of his long ears brushing the top of the barn. He pushed and slapped the donkey's side with his straw hat, attempting to scare him forward. But the animal refused to budge another inch. The farmer had no time for such foolishness. A car was approaching the barn; likely another customer from his unattended vegetable stand out front. Drat this animal! He silently pondered the situation; no wonder they called them mules! The late model Mercedes came to a stop; a man who appeared to be in his mid 40's stepped out of the car, folding his suit jacket over his arm. "Hello, are you the owner of the fresh vegetable operation out front?" "If you're talking about that vegetable stand then yes, I am. I'm stuck here behind this darned animal. He's afraid to go into the barn because his ears keep clipping the top of the barn!" The man, an engineer by trade, walked over to the donkey and stood looking at him quietly for a moment. "Do you have an idea as to how you can get him in?" "If I did, I wouldn't be standing here, now would I?" "Why don't we try digging a slight decline out under that doorway so his ears won't brush the top of the barn?" "Now ain't that just like a college preppie like yourself", the farmer muttered in disgust! "It ain't his legs that are too long, it's his ears!" And so it is with mankind; we build science fiction stories about time machines and create all kinds of complicated scenarios about time travel, many arriving at the conclusion that the people who believe in these stories are loons. We refuse to accept that there is a simple method available to every human being; one that we brought with us into our life fully equipped to use. Some may curiously examine the concept of time travel, but most simply do ...

Listening to Silence: poems of meditation by Michael R. Patton (Peace Mill Publishing) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

The poems of LISTENING TO SILENCE define meditation as any moment in which we experience silence, peace, balance, beauty, depth, mystery... Author Michael R. Patton tells us that he's no guru, but "a human being clouded by noise." These poems speak of his struggle to find the silence within that noise. His struggle. Our struggle. Meditation is not an escape from life, but an effort to imbibe life more fully--to deeply appreciate this grand mystery... LISTENING TO SILENCE describes that effort in a way that is both contemporary and accessible, without being trite or mundane.

City of Lace: A Novel of the Christmas Truce, 1914 by Douglas A. Schrock (Bounty Press) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

War brings out the worst of humanity... but it also brings out the best. Toward the end of 1914, the men of the great armies of Europe laid down their arms in favor of Bibles and ball games and chocolate cakes. For the next four years they would continue killing one another in the name of king and country, but for one beautiful night and day that December all that mattered was their love for Christmas, and their love for one another. Here are two fictional stories that meld into one, representative of countless many from that glorious Christmas Truce... that of a young German Lutheran, and that of a young English atheist, both of whom find themselves at war not only in the trenches of Belgium but in their souls. What they experience during Yuletide of 1914 will change not only them, but all those in their lives. Forever.

Building Green: Environmental Architects and the Struggle for Sustainability in Mumbai by Anne Rademacher (University of California Press) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

A free ebook version of this title is available through Luminos, University of California Press's Open Access publishing program. Visit www.luminosoa.org to learn more. Building Green explores the experience of environmental architects in Mumbai, one of the world's most populous and population-dense urban areas and a city iconic for its massive informal settlements, extreme wealth asymmetries, and ecological stresses. Under these conditions, what does it mean to learn, and try to practice, so-called green design? By tracing the training and professional experiences of environmental architects in India's first graduate degree program in Environmental Architecture, Rademacher shows how environmental architects forged sustainability concepts and practices and sought to make them meaningful through engaged architectural practice. The book's focus on practitioners offers insights into the many roles that converge to produce this emergent, critically important form of urban expertise. At once activists, scientists, and designers, the environmental architects profiled in Building Green act as key agents of urban change whose efforts in practice are shaped by a complex urban development economy, layered political power relations, and a calculus of when, and how, their expert skills might be operationalized in service of a global urban future.

TABLE TALKS: Discovering Who God Really Is (30 Day Devotionals for Families Book 1) by Mark J Musser 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

GREAT DINNER TIME DEVOTIONAL TO USE WITH YOUR CHILDREN AND PRE-TEENS! Discipleship was meant to start and end in the home. Long before God created the nation of Israel to spread His glory and long before God instituted the church to share the message of Christ, God ordained the family to be the primary means of discipleship. God says, "Be very careful never to forget what you have seen the Lord do for you. Do not let these things escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren... That way, they will learn to fear me as long as they live, and they will be able to teach my laws to their children." God's plan from the beginning has been incredibly simple. "Parents you teach your children about Me as you walk through life together. Then, when your children grow up and leave the home, they will turn around and do the same for their children." That is the purpose of this devotional. Let it be a tool to help daily disciple your children and pre-teens. Each day, you will find a Bible passage to read along with a devotional thought. From there, you will engage your children with a series of questions. The first is simply designed to get them talking, the rest focus on the day's lesson. At the end of each devotional, you will be provided suggested prayers as well as ideas for object lessons that can further instill Biblical truths into your children. God has called you to the great task of discipleship. It is not your pastor's job nor your children's Sunday school teacher or youth leader. No, it is yours. Grab hold of that responsibility and watch as the Lord does awesome things in and through your family! THE DAWN OF THE AGE OF AQUARIUS by June Rye (The Electronic Book Company) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

THE DAWN OF THE AGE OF AQUARIUS If you have ever lost a loved one or been seriously injured in an accident and feel as if you are trapped in a deep black pit of despair, asking questions like "why me?" "Why do bad things always happen to me?" This book will not ease your pain but it might help you to understand the reasons why. Many years ago I was practising as a Nutrition Consultant, using Radiesthesia (dowsing) as a diagnostic tool, and decided to investigate where this psychic phenomenon was coming from. I didn't believe in a particular God, but I did feel that there was some force, or energy, within me to enable me to ascertain which foodstuffs were causing a client's particular ailment. This is the story of how my quest for Enlightenment turned into a Nightmare, which began in 1985 and only stopped 3 years ago. For many years my mind was bombarded with my past life memories, as well as visions going back to as far as 10,000 BC. I have written this book to explain what life on earth is all about. What happens when some minds break, and people stop functioning "correctly"? Join the writers featured in the fifth volume of Ink Stains as they explore what happens when good people go bad or mad. May's Promise: The Kingdom Trek Book 1 by Janet Juengel 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

This is the first book in a Christian historical fiction romance series. 1865 May and her best friend Maddy's brothers are away at war fighting the southern rebellion. The congregation that her grandfather leads has suffered a lot of loss due to the war. For over three years, the women have banded together to support each other as the women find the need to work in local factories to support themselves and their families while their men are away. The congregation suffers a major setback when many of their soldiers are lost or injured in a battle though the Union had been victorious. May worries. She hasn't heard from her brother in a long time. When May turns eighteen, many of the local men that didn't join the army start approaching her grandfather for permission to court her. May dreams of falling in love with a righteous man that loves both God and her. She isn't interested in any of the men that speak to her grandfather, so she uses the excuse that she promised her brother not to court until he returns. In the previous year, the situations of many of the members in the congregation had taken a turn for the worse with the closure of the flour mill, and the rumors of the two factories many worked at having financial problems. The people were now required to work seven days a week, twelve hours a day for the same amount of money. The scarcity of jobs means they don't have a lot of choices. They needed the jobs in order to provide for their families. May heard a lot of talk about the Homestead Act and dreaming about the opportunity to have a farmstead of their own. At least once a year her grandfather is approached with a proposition for purchasing the church buildings and property. The property has lake frontage that is coveted by many factories. Her grandfather always is polite, but declines the offers. May wasn't surprised when another man arrived with a new proposal, but her grandfather's reaction to the man's visit stunned her. The company the man ...
