Newly divorced and depressed, Chicago investment-banker, Russell Henderson, makes a spur-of-the-moment decision to go on a camping trip to explore the Western United States. Along the way, his normally controlled and contained lifestyle is challenged by a woman hitchhiker he picks up early on who leads him into a wealth of new, interesting, sometimes fun and sometimes frightening possibilities.
The trip through stunning countryside, towns, and national parks, leads Henderson farther away from his home, his roots, and his life. While traveling along the way, he reluctantly experiences a Native American sweat lodge, a Buddhist retreat center, and performing as a musician.
