The Peloponnesian War: A Captivating Guide to the Ancient Greek War Between the Two Leading City-States in Ancient Greece — Athens and Sparta by Captivating History 3.9 Stars (18 Reviews)    Price verified 39 minutes ago

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Peloponnesian War, then keep reading... Free History BONUS Inside! The Peloponnesian War enveloped the entire Greek world, from Syracuse on the island of Sicily to the shores of western Turkey. It ravaged the Greek population and produced great hardships, and it led to the eventual downfall of the Athenian Empire and the rise of the Spartan Empire. But during this time of great challenge, Greek culture would once again reveal itself as one of the richest and most interesting of the time. An intellectual psyche based on morality and rationalism caused people to question the nature of war more than they ever had before, as well as the functionality and purpose of democracy, and this perspective led to tremendous achievements in both art and literature. And it's during this war that the world was introduced to one of the greatest philosophers of all time: Socrates. So, while it's true that war should be avoided at all costs, it's also true that it's a great teacher. It shows people who they are, and it forces them to rise up in the face of great adversity. And while the Athenians did eventually fall to the Spartans, neither side won or lost. The only losers were those who lived during this tragic conflict that was defined by famine and plague, and the only winners were those who came afterward and who were able to enjoy the tremendous advancements in human culture that came from one of the most prolific conflicts of all time. In The Peloponnesian War: A Captivating Guide to the Ancient Greek War Between the Two Leading City-States in Ancient Greece -- Athens and Sparta, you will discover topics such as • Understanding Peloponnese • The Peloponnesian and Delian Leagues • Rising Tensions Between Athens and Sparta: The First Peloponnesian War to the Thirty Years' Peace • The Archidamian War to the Peace of Nicias • The Attack of Syracuse Brings More War • The Ionian War and the Fall of ...

"If he's gross, I'm bailing." That's what I said to my supposed best friend when she asked me to take her place. A blind date, she said. What harm could it do? He was charming. Beautiful. God's finest creation. He wined me and dined me. Made me do things I'd never before dreamt of in the bedroom. It was perfect. Dangerous. Arousing. But Jenny didn't tell me the full story. She didn't tell me about the debt she owed. And now Quinn Cane wants his money's worth, and he's going to make me pay whatever way he can. "A debt needs to be paid." The woman who came to meet me didn't owe me money. I could tell by her innocent eyes. Still, the debt will be paid either way. She was something to play with and use as I saw fit, but something about Emily Brooks made me want to keep her. So she became my dirty girl. Pure. Innocent. Mine. Then she whispered my damned name and invaded my world, changing its reasoning. She wasn't meant to break the rules. But she rolled my dice and won. Shame. Forgiveness. Dark. Erotic. Romance. This book is intended for mature audiences. 18+ only.

Lieutenant Jay Edwards and Detective Smith Le Beau and several news reporters were mixed in with everyone else giving the family and friends no peace at the grave. * * * The coffin arrived at the grave after slow, somber music kept playing as the mourning folks following behind the coffin on foot from the street; by a combination of marching or dancing or walking through the city streets toward the cemetery. Claude organized such a funeral for himself sometime earlier at his mansion. He planned for a brass band marching to the cemetery behind the hearse. The music of his slow funeral march was somber dirges and hymns. They play several the slow and somber songs such as "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" until they arrived at the cemetery. Joe and Timothy were there together at graveside. Then some other family members joined them, and other folks surround the coffin in no pattern. Joe Berger sat there thinking about his late father. He recalled their lunches together near the French Quarter. They made the short walk there from Claude's office with his entourage in tow. It was kind of humorous to him the people on the street stared at him because they wondered about was, he as ruthless as they thought. He recalled the two brothers occasionally had lunch with their father near the French Quarter. The three of them spent the morning together at his office. Then they dined at a fine restaurant along their Mardi gras route. Now that was over. He felt that he no longer had a need to go to that office. He and his brother will never again drop by that office for the morning before spending time enjoying the city. Then Joe was back in the current time. He heard the somber song music kept playing. Then when it was lowered to the bottom of the grave the music stops. Then a ...

John Jay: A Captivating Guide to an American Statesman, Patriot, Diplomat, Governor of New York, the First Chief Justice, and One of the Founding ... by Captivating History 4.1 Stars (13 Reviews)    Price verified one hour ago

If you want to discover the captivating life of John Jay, then keep reading... Free History BONUS Inside! John Jay was a master statesman and strategic diplomat who associated with all the great men of his day in the mid-18th century. However, his contemporaries said that he was modest and humble. They indicated that they could be at a party or gathering and guests had to coax him into discussing his role during the American Revolution or as the first Supreme Court justice of the new nation. When he became the first chief justice of America, he established the groundwork for fairness and neutrality in decision-making. Many of the principles he established in the 19th century are practiced today by this high court. His foresight was extremely acute, and leaders of America sought out his opinions even during his retirement. He was a role model for patience and fairness, and he manifested these qualities in his roles as a jurist, the governor of New York, and the ambassador to Spain, France, and England. None of his positions were easy ones. Every issue he confronted in his political life was a negotiation, and he was expected to referee various opposing factions. Almost magically he developed practical results that were "win-win solutions." John Jay is a Founding Father who is often overlooked, and few people realize the extent and impact of his contributions to the new nation. He might not have been a part of the Constitutional Convention, but he passionately argued for a more powerful, yet balanced, centralized form of government which eventually led to the passing of the U.S. Constitution. John Jay's work provided for the expression of liberty and justice in a viable society, and he designed a functional and dynamic process that still works today. In John Jay: A Captivating Guide to an American Statesman, Patriot, Diplomat, Governor of New York, the First Chief Justice, and One of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America, you will discover topics ...

Age of Enlightenment: A Captivating Guide to the Age of Reason, Including the Lives of Isaac Newton, Francis Bacon, John Locke, and Mary Somerville by Captivating History 4.1 Stars (22 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Age of Enlightenment, then keep reading... Free History BONUS Inside! The life of an eminent scientist during the Scientific Revolution and the ensuing Enlightenment was not easy. Ambitious people were killed in the name of the Catholic Church for their scientific and philosophical works, which were often viewed as heretical. As time went on, however, and the truths of scientific research and exploration showed themselves time and time again, the collective perspective of the population began to shift away from religious dogma toward the logical scientific method. The Enlightenment gained traction in the 17th century, and more emphasis was given to scientific techniques in the schools, as well as to the separation of religious and scientific data. Religious philosophies also became less rooted in the exact words of the Catholic Church, as papal authority gave way in many European countries to splinter groups of Christianity, such as the Calvinists, Lutherans, and other types of Protestants. Major figures of the Enlightenment period include Voltaire, Isaac Newton, John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, David Hume, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Adam Smith, Immanuel Kant, and Thomas Jefferson. These and many other great thinkers of the era influenced mass social upheaval in pursuit of equality and human rights, and many historians consider the culmination of these efforts to have been the French Revolution of 1789. In Age of Enlightenment: A Captivating Guide to the Age of Reason, Including the Lives of Isaac Newton, Francis Bacon, John Locke, and Mary Somerville, you will discover topics such as • The Republic of Letters • Michel de Montaigne • Francis Bacon • Marie de Gournay • René Descartes • Bathsua Makin • Anna Maria Van Schurman • Dorothy Moore • Princess Elisabeth of Bohemia • Robert Boyle • John Locke • Isaac Newton • England's Civil War • The Royal Society of London • ...

The Salem Witch Hunt: A Captivating Guide to the Hunt and Trials of People Accused of Witchcraft in Colonial Massachusetts by Captivating History 4.6 Stars (53 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Salem Witch Hunt, then keep reading... Free History BONUS Inside! Decades after witch-hunting had begun to die down in Europe, North America was about to witness its bloodiest witch hunt in history. The Massachusetts of 1692 was a very different one to the state we know today. Populated by colonists, many of them a generation or less from life in an England bathed in religious turmoil, Massachusetts was not the safe haven that the fleeing Puritans had hoped it would be. Persecuted for their faith in Europe, the Puritans had pictured a kind of utopia founded on biblical principles. They saw the New World as a new beginning, a kind of second chance for humanity. It would be only 72 years after the arrival of the Mayflower that the events in Salem would make it blatantly obvious that humanity had already blown it again. This is not the story of the trials. This is the story of its people. This is not an attempt to explain the events of 1692. It is an attempt to bring to life the victims who died so unjustly. In this book, we will walk side by side with the destitute Sarah Good as she realizes that after having lost all she owns, her reputation, her baby, and even her life will still be taken from her. We stand at the bar with Rebecca Nurse, a sweet little old lady who is sentenced to hang for what she must have perceived to be the most heinous of crimes. We witness George Burroughs at the gallows, a former minister now condemned to die for his supposed alliance with Satan, as he delivers a speech so stirring that it takes quick thinking from his enemies to prevent the crowd from rushing forth to cut him down. We feel our own breaths catching as we watch the cruel and greedy Sheriff George Corwin piling rocks onto the fragile eighty-year-old body of Giles Corey, who is determined to die without entering a plea so that his sons will still get the inheritance he promised them. We will walk through this history ...

Nine Years, Three weeks and Three days: A story of Love, Life, Laughter, and Loss by K.L. Dale 5.0 Stars (8 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

I didn't know what I was writing when I started. It was just a way for me to get things off my chest, out of my head; losing John affected me in ways I hadn't considered. Writing 'Nine Years' helped me to realise, and appreciate, things I hadn't previously acknowledged as important, or relevant. I never planned on it becoming four parts, it just happened. There were moments when I had to stop writing so I could cry, laugh, think, breathe, let whatever revelation I had had, to sink in. We enjoyed lots of good times over our nine years together, too many to talk about. I have included some of my favourites. We had a good life with lots of laughter, it wasn't all doom and gloom.I wasn't sure if I would let people read what I was writing at the beginning; it is deeply personal. I've pretty much laid myself, and my life with John, bare for the world to pass judgement on. I haven't sugar coated anything, I have been blunt in some of my wording, that's just the way I am. This isn't about justifying my grief, I don't need to do that; I refuse to do that. Grief needs no justification. I would like to think that reading 'Nine Years' will provide an insight into the reality of losing someone you love. To anyone who reads 'Nine Years' who has suffered a loss then I hope you find some kind reassurance that you are not alone in the feelings, thoughts, emotions you have had, or are still experiencing. It is shit, life is very unfair, but we are still standing. I don't claim to be an expert, I don't have the answers, I do a story to share.

The Ontological Argument According to Augustine Anselm Aquinas: Seeking to Know God by Martin Murphy (Theocentric Publishing Group) Price verified 2 hours ago

The word ontology comes from two Greek words meaning "the study or theory of being." The investigation of being is difficult to say the least. As for defining the word being, let us admit that it is extremely difficult. Christians have long believed that God is Being and that Being is knowable. The being of God is a subject that church doctors, theologians, and pastors must understand if they intend to engage fruitfully in the apologetical enterprise. They should give attention to the work of the church fathers to help understand the ontological argument. Augustine, Anselm, and Aquinas are three significant theologians and they have contributed to the investigation of the ontological argument which is indicated in their writings.

The Dutch East India Company: A Captivating Guide to the First True Multinational Corporation and Its Impact on the Dutch War of Independence from ... by Captivating History 4.2 Stars (33 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Dutch East India Company, then keep reading... Free History BONUS Inside! Huge international companies and corporations are a normal part of our everyday lives today. For most, their unimaginable wealth and power, which are rivaling even some of the smaller countries of the world, is something we take for granted. And we see them as the living embodiment of the capitalist system, regardless if we take it as a good or a bad omen. However, this wasn't always the case. For the majority of history, it was the kings and emperors who wielded the most influence, commanded the largest armies, and had the largest treasures. And all of them would laugh at the idea of some merchants managing to not only catch up to their supremacy and riches but even surpass them. Yet they did. Probably the best example of that kind of success were the traders of the Dutch East India Company of the 16th century. This company singlehandedly reformed the way businesses functioned, creating the foundation of our modern capitalist world, with all of its strengths and weaknesses. And through its international trade, this corporation brought our world one step closer to the colonialism of the 19th century and the globalization of the 20th century. It even managed to transform itself from a group of merchants to an empire in its own right. By the time of its disbandment in the late 18th century, the world was irreversibly changed. In The Dutch East India Company: A Captivating Guide to the First True Multinational Corporation and Its Impact on the Dutch War of Independence from Spain, you will discover topics such as • Birth of a Corporation • The Company on the Rise • Fall of the Giant • Structure and Organization of the VOC • The Good, the Bad, and the VOC • And much, much more! Jack London on Adventure: Words of Wisdom from an Expert Adventurer by Jack London (Skyhorse) 1.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

Jack London was a writer, but more than that, he was an adventurer who wrote about his adventures. Growing up working class in San Francisco, London diligently scrounged out a life riding trains, pirating oysters, working on a sealing ship, and working at a cannery, all the while using his free time to hole up in libraries reading novels and travel books. A harrowing voyage aboard a sealing ship, where he and the crew were almost killed by a typhoon, convinced him to start writing stories. After a brief time on the east coast and a stint in the Yukon mining for gold, London returned to California. He published his stories in the Overland Monthly, which prompted him to become more disciplined in his writing. He published numerous novels over the years, including The Call of the Wild, a story about a dog who becomes a sled dog in the Yukon, The People of the Abyss, which heavily critiqued capitalism, and John Barleycorn, a memoiristic novel that detailed his struggles with alcoholism. With quotes from the array of Jack London's writings, readers will get a sense of his life as well as a keen yearning for undertaking their own adventures.

Two captivating manuscripts in one book: • The Mongol Conquests: A Captivating Guide to the Invasions and Conquests Initiated by Genghis Khan That Created the Vast Mongol Empire • Genghis Khan: A Captivating Guide to the Founder of the Mongol Empire and His Conquests Which Resulted in the Largest Contiguous Empire in History The Mongols were known to be both merciful as well as tolerant. Moreover, their conquests weren't aimed against civilized life; in fact, they helped connect numerous cultures and facilitated the spread of ideas and knowledge across the continent. Of course, the Mongols themselves were not uncultured brutes, as they had their own civilization, society, and traditions. With all that being said, this does not mean they were innocent for all the destruction they caused. Instead, it is implied that the Mongols weren't like fire, causing annihilation wherever they passed. They were more like water, capable of causing floods and carving mountains while at the same time creating fertile soil and giving life. Like many other topics in history, the Mongol story has more than one side, and this book will try to present as many as possible. It will explore both the bloody history of Genghis Khan and his conquests while showing that he and his fellow Mongols were capable of much more than that. Diving deep inside their culture and society, we'll cast off their barbaric image. They will be exposed for what they actually were, mere humans like any other on this Earth. Hopefully, by the end of this guide of the Mongol conquests, you will get a better understanding of not only the history of the Mongols but of all of humankind as well. Building the Wall: The Play and Commentary by Robert Schenkkan (Arcade) 4.2 Stars (10 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

In the tradition of Hamilton and Angels in America, a powerful, politically charged, dystopian drama that couldn't be more timely. Written in a "white-hot fury" on the eve of the 2016 election, the stunning new play by Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning dramatist Robert Schenkkan is creating a nationwide sensation. Bypassing the usual development path for plays, it has been signed up to open in five theaters across America in a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere, starting in Los Angeles (March) and Denver (April) and continuing in the Washington, DC, area, Tucson, and Miami, with more productions to follow, including in Santa Fe and New York City. Building the Wall lays out in a harrowing drama the consequences of Donald Trump's anti-immigration campaign rhetoric turned into federal policy. Two years from now, that policy has resulted in the mass round-up of millions of illegal aliens, with their incarceration overflowing into private prisons and camps reminiscent of another century. The former warden for one facility is awaiting sentencing for what happened under his watch. In a riveting interview with a historian who has come seeking the truth, he gradually reveals how the unthinkable became the inevitable, and the faceless illegals under his charge became the face of tragedy. The play is accompanied by commentary from three prominent scholars: on the real purpose of the border wall, our dark nativist history of restricting immigration, and the tradition of political protest in art.

The Black Death: A Captivating Guide to the Deadliest Pandemic in Medieval Europe and Human History by Captivating History 3.9 Stars (43 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

If you want to discover the captivating history of The Black Death, then keep reading... Free History BONUS Inside! The Black Death was the first recorded pandemic in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire. All across the continent, people learned just how gruesome and horrific disease could be as the plague crossed the boundaries of countries and the lines established by society, killing everyone equally. It showed that no one -- not even archbishops and kings -- were immune from its grasp. The ferocity with which the plague swept across the continent, even reaching the shores of England, demonstrated how unprepared they were for something on such a large scale. It was the first time that a major disease would strike the continent after the fall of the Roman Empire, but it would not be the last. Over the next few centuries, the bubonic plague would return several times. Although it was incredibly deadly, it never again had the same catastrophic effect on the European population. People began to study it from a scientific perspective instead of the same superstitious angle or religious fatalism, making it possible to understand exactly what was causing the deaths. Today, those in the medical profession can easily treat the bubonic plague if they realize what it is early enough. With examples of the illness occurring in many nations during the last decade, including the US, the Black Death is not gone, but it is no longer the death sentence that it once was. In The Black Death: A Captivating Guide to the Deadliest Pandemic in Medieval Europe and Human History, you will discover topics such as • The First Pandemics • The Black Death • The Unlikely Use of the Black Death • Rumors and Arrival • Perceptions Vs. When the Jonquils Bloom Again, 5th Edition: Cheerleading Camp (18): Cheerleading Camp (When the Jonquils Bloom Again 5th Edition) by J G Knox (LTL Publishing) Price verified 3 hours ago

At Madison High School in 1947 there are two types of girls: virgins, mothers-to-be later, and non-virgins, mothers-to-be sooner---much sooner. Our heroine is a vestal virgin, totally innocent, as pure as driven snow. Wind driven snow usually rolls down the meadow kissing everything sticking out of the ground before it ends up in the gutter, doesn't it? Not Sharon. She tumbles down the mountain side from her freshman to her senior year kissing only two boys. Why is she in the middle of a football field jumping with her skirt flying up and down, advertising, promising things she knows nothing about to boys who know less? She waits. She imagines. Her man, her husband, will appear running from the darkness, his cleats spitting turf as he crosses the ten yard line, twentieth, fortieth. His identity hidden in a helmet, his arm around her legs familiar, he tackles her out of the air, and carries her over the goal line. Will he teach her after they turn the flood lights out? She has no idea. To her cheerleading is an art form, dancing with other girls in unison. It's not about sex? Mom and Dad at home, without her, too old for sex, after all they're almost fifty. Eight children from twenty-eight to sixteen, with none home to entertain them, Daddy wouldn't chase Momma across the living room naked, would he? Daddy! Momma! Sex can be good, right, Holy as long as it is between married people, even old married people. Meanwhile our sixteen-year-old heroine is homesick crying herself to sleep in a dorm with seven other girls. How can life be boring when you ask for a laxative and end up with an enema, and the nurse catches you sexually aroused by the enema? An enema fetish is normal isn't it? Sharon, our heroine, doesn't think so. Guilty of a sin too great for forgiveness our heroine is caught, humiliated, and learns a life changing lesson. Her nurse forgives her. God forgives her. Can she forgive herself? Friends forgive sexual flaws, like loving enemas---don't they? After ...

Jesus Commands His Angels Concerning You: To guard you in all your ways by Robert Medlin Price verified 3 hours ago

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. (Psalm 91:11 NIV) As this introductory scripture from Psalm 91 above tells us, Jesus has commanded his angels concerning us to guard us in all our ways. Notice that the angels have been given a responsibility to "guard us in ALL our ways". This scripture doesn't say that Jesus has commanded his angels to guard us in a few of our ways, or to guard us in some of our ways, or to guard us in most of our ways. Jesus has commanded his angels to guard us in ALL of our ways. Jesus gives his angels charge over you to guard you in all your ways. That includes your health, your family, your job or business, your finances and everything that is important to you in life.

The Middle Ages: A Captivating Guide to the History of Europe, Starting from the Fall of the Western Roman Empire Through the Black Death to the ... by Captivating History 3.9 Stars (20 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Middle Ages, then keep reading... Free History BONUS Inside! One of the least understood periods of European history occurred between the 6th century and the 14th or 15th century (depending on which historian you ask). Commonly called the Middle Ages, this was a time period of extreme change for Europe, beginning with the fall of the Western Roman Empire. To a continent that had seen a drastic shift in the power structure, the world seemed to be particularly harsh. Rome had been a major player across Europe for well over a millennium. Then it was gone. This is also a time period that still inspires art, literature, and philosophy today. There were men who lived during the Middle Ages who are still quoted and revered today, such as Saint Thomas Aquinas. They were almost always men of the cloth (religious men), but not always. People still enjoy the works of Geoffrey Chaucer, a famous writer who was also a merchant. The architecture of this time has also been used and reused for many centuries as well. The cathedrals and castles built during the Middle Ages still remain while younger structures have long since crumbled. Perhaps the most famous architecture from the time though is known as the Gothic style. The look and feel of the Gothic style have inspired many generations, including the Romantics of the 1800s and the horror/mystery genre that is still so popular today. However, it was the birth of universities that reflects the thinking of the time. Prior to the Middle Ages, there was no higher education. Many of the institutions and ideas that the men of the Renaissance would explore began during the Middle Ages. It was a time when Europe healed from the fall of one superpower and transitioned into something that more closely resembled the map of Europe today. It would undergo many more changes in the years following the Middle Ages, but nations began to find their identities without their Roman ...

2020: A Novel by Kenneth Steven (Arcade) 3.5 Stars (8 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

In the tradition of 1984 and It Can't Happen Here, 2020 is a timely dystopian novel about a country divided, a terrorist attack, and an populist leader who promises he alone is the solution. In 2020, Britain is at a breaking point. Years of economic turmoil, bitter debates over immigration, anger at the political elites, and fears about the future have created a maelstrom, a dis-United Kingdom, with citizens tempted to find easy answers in demagoguery and isolationism. The country is a bomb waiting to explode. Then it does. A major terrorist attack targets a sleeper train traveling between Edinburgh and London, leaving a staggering number of dead and wounded. Investigators soon identify the culprits as a radicalized group of young British Muslims. Horrific images from the attack and speculation by the media fan worries about further terrorist acts and the danger of an enemy within. In the aftermath, two far right organizations join to create a new radical group called White Rose, promising to stand up for English values. An unproven leader vows thathe can fix the nation. As the nightmare unfolds, a myriad of voices—from across the social and political spectrum—offer wildly differing perspectives on the chaotic events... and unexpectedly reveal modern Britain's soul with 20/20 acuity. Thoughtful, compassionate, and provocative, Kenneth Steven's 2020 is a parable for our times.

Alexander Hamilton: A Captivating Guide to an American Founding Father Who Wrote the Majority of The Federalist Papers by Captivating History 3.9 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

If you want to discover the captivating life of Alexander Hamilton, then keep reading... Free History BONUS Inside! Alexander Hamilton, unlike many of the other Founding Fathers of the United States, was born outside of wedlock and was an orphan at the age of thirteen after his mother died. He was thrown into the world, depending on the charity of friends and neighbors. That perhaps is one of the reasons why Alexander Hamilton was fiscally sensitive and always anxious about funding and finance, not only for himself but for the new nation of the United States, where he emigrated when he was in his late teens. It is no wonder then that he became the first Secretary of the Treasury of the United States and that he even saved banks from financial collapse. Hamilton had a brilliant mind. Although the law was his calling, he was blessed with charisma that could persuade even the stoniest of hearts. As a prolific writer, he never shied from presenting his legal (and personal) opinions regarding the political issues of the day. In Alexander Hamilton: A Captivating Guide to an American Founding Father Who Wrote the Majority of The Federalist Papers, you will discover topics such as • From Nevis to Boston • From Pen to Sword • Onset of Hamilton's Political Career • Economy and the First National Bank • The Time the Troubles Start • Empowerment of Political Parties • The Bitterly Fought Elections • Bottom of the Curve • And much, much more! Tree captivating manuscripts in one book: • American Indian Wars: A Captivating Guide to a Series of Conflicts That Occurred in North America and How They Impacted Native American Tribes, Including Events Such as the Sand Creek Massacre • The Battle of the Little Bighorn: A Captivating Guide to One of the Most Significant Actions of the Great Sioux War and How Custer's Last Stand Impacted the Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes • The Wounded Knee Massacre: A Captivating Guide to the Battle of Wounded Knee and Its Impact on the Native Americans after the Final Clash between Federal Troops and the Sioux Today, the United States of America is one of the largest countries in the world. Comprised of fifty states, this huge nation is filled with diverse topography, as well as a variety of flora and fauna. Not only that, but the USA is also home to a huge population with diverse ethnic backgrounds, including Hispanic, African American, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Polish, and many more. A vast number of the white population are the descendants of the European colonists and settlers who ultimately conquered the land, dominating the Native Americans who were the original inhabitants of the land. This was very similar to the way the British conquered the Indian subcontinent, except for the fact the British conquerors didn't make the Indian subcontinent their permanent home while the early American colonists shed sweat and blood to make the untamed American wilderness their new homeland. But, in order to do so, the Americans waged wars against the Native Americans who had roamed the lands for thousands of years, driving them away from their homes in a brutal and horrific manner. Part of the blame lay on the Native Americans as well since their retaliation on the newcomers trespassing their lands were often brutal and horrific. Some of ...

Scientific Revolution: A Captivating Guide to the Emergence of Modern Science During the Early Modern Period and the Life of Galileo Galilei by Captivating History 4.6 Stars (14 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Scientific Revolution, then keep reading... Free History BONUS Inside! Two captivating manuscripts in one book: • The Scientific Revolution: A Captivating Guide to the Emergence of Modern Science During the Early Modern Period, Including Stories of Thinkers Such as Isaac Newton and René Descartes • Galileo Galilei: A Captivating Guide to an Italian Astronomer, Physicist, and Engineer and His Impact on the History of Science Ancient cultures have been looking up at the stars for thousands of years, wondering about their place in the universe. What were those glowing spots in the black cover of night? Just how far away was the moon? These and other questions hounded humanity through the millennia until, finally, relative economic stability allowed for a number of people to examine their world more closely. Slowly, knowledge and understanding accumulated generation by generation until the conditions were ideal enough for a revolution to occur in thinking, experimentation, worldview, and natural philosophy. It was the Scientific Revolution, the time period when Western theologians had more and better tools to measure and make sense of the things around them. With careful measurements, precise data collection, and an unwavering sense of curiosity, humankind stepped into the future. The truly magnificent feature of this time period, besides, of course, the scientific discoveries themselves, was the kinship between philosophers, scientists, and experimental hobbyists throughout Europe. Hundreds, if not thousands, of letters between great intellectuals such as Isaac Newton, Johannes Kepler, Robert Hooke, and Tycho Brahe have been preserved, demonstrating how these men (and a few women) worked in cooperation with one another in order to better their own research. Some of the topics covered in part 1 of this book include: • Science: A Definition and Brief Prehistory • The Early Western Sciences • ...

The Spanish-American War: A Captivating Guide to the Armed Conflict Between the United States of America and Spain That Took Place after the U.S. ... by Captivating History 4.1 Stars (17 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

If you want to discover the captivating history of the Spanish-American War, then keep reading... Free History BONUS Inside! The Spanish-American War really only lasted about ten weeks (the buildup and decision to go to war took longer than the war itself), but a peace treaty was not signed until December of 1898. This was an event that was the tipping point for the end of the Spanish Empire and the rise of the US as a formidable player on the world stage. Not all Americans were happy with the change, with famous Americans like Mark Twain speaking out about the US occupation of the lands that it was meant to save. This breach was seen as being as antithetical to American ideals as bowing to the English crown would have been seen during the American Revolution. Still, the isolationist's view of the country was no longer popular, and more Americans wished to play a larger part in the world. The ideology of the country was not entirely different than it had been, but it was moving more toward the superpower it eventually became by the end of World War II. America had finally taken strides to match the might and power of the other Western countries, and it was increasingly more difficult to ignore the events around the world once they had lands to protect so far from the mainland. In The Spanish-American War: A Captivating Guide to the Armed Conflict Between the United States of America and Spain That Took Place after the U.S. Intervened in the Cuban War of Independence, you will discover topics such as • Spain's Waning Influence • America - A Country Itching to Break out of Isolationism • Building Tensions • America's Sensationalized Sympathy with Cuba • Remember the Maine! - An Excuse for War • A Brief War with Huge Implications • Rough Riders - The Beginning of the Legend of Theodore Roosevelt • How the Smoked Yankees Ensured Roosevelt's Success • The Price of Peace • The Anti-Imperialist League • The Foraker Act of 1900 and ...

This conflict, which lasted roughly 30 years, put the two greatest Greek city-states of the time, Athens and Sparta, up against one another, and the result, a Spartan victory, helped to reshape the entire ancient world.
