TALES FROM THE MALL: Fact & Fiction from the lost age of Globalisation by Ewan Morrison (Litmus) 3.9 Stars (21 Reviews)    Price verified 42 minutes ago

Tales From the Mall is a great book. It s touching and emotional and part of a new form of literary storytelling. It s worth reading, worth loving. James Frey, author of A Million Little Pieces Ewan Morrison captures beautifully the point at which anecdote becomes urban myth and reportage slides into fiction. This feels like a really important step towards a literature of the 21st century. Claire Armistead, Books Editor, The Guardian Morrison continues Ballard's tradition of locating menace beneath the sleekness and shine of postindustrial life. You also learn a lot along the way. A truly interesting book. - Douglas Coupland, author of Generation X Winner of the Not The Booker Prize 2012. Finalist in the Saltire Society Book of the Year & Creative Scotland Writer of the Year 2012. From the Glenfiddich Scottish Writer of the Year 2013. Fashion. Food Courts. Lingerie. Fire Bombing. Suicide. Free Parking. Welcome to the Mall. Why would one woman threaten to kill another for a pair of discounted shoes? Why are cross-dressers drawn to mall car parks? What do impulse buys have to do with rioting? And why are market research companies hiding the truth from us? From one of the UK s most acclaimed literary and media talents, Tales From The Mall, is a mash-up of fiction, essays and true stories, that tells the rise of the most iconic symbol of our modern age the shopping mall. From over a hundred interviews and confessions, Morrison re-tells the true-life tales of those who work, shop and even find love inside their walls. With wry wit, insight and compassion, Morrison uncovers the secrets of retail heaven and hell, to reveal how malls manipulate our emotions in cleverly calculated ways, how they are an ideal space to meet a new lover or to kill yourself and how they are taking over the world. A startling window on our time, to make you think, fear and laugh. Retail will never be therapy again.

Why Black Lives Do Matter by Earl Ofari Hutchinson (Middle Passage Press) 4.0 Stars (7 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

Why Black Lives Do Matter, noted political analyst Earl Ofari Hutchinson, takes a laser look at the history of, and continuing propagation, of gross racial typecasting and stereotypes, that have made African-Americans the perennial target of racial and police violence. The book is sweeping in scope, precise in focus, and even hits harder on the same devastating racial stereotypes of Blacks that he examined almost a quarter century earlier in his important work, The Assassination of the Black Male Image.

The Group Mind: A Sketch of the Principles of Collective Psychology by William McDougall (e-artnow) 4.4 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 6 hours ago

"Until the later decades of the nineteenth century, psychology continued to concern itself almost exclusively with the mind of man conceived in an abstract fashion, not as the mind of any particular individual, but as the mind of a representative individual considered in abstraction from his social settings as something given to our contemplation fully formed and complete... " William McDougall was an early 20th century psychologist who wrote a number of highly influential textbooks, and was particularly important in the development of the theory of instinct and of social psychology in the English-speaking world. He was an opponent of behaviourism and stands somewhat outside the mainstream of the development of Anglo-American psychological thought in the first half of the 20th century; but his work was very well known and respected among lay people.

Green Water Strategy - The New Paradigm in Modern Business by D. Wayne Willard 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

First There Was the CSC One dreary Monday morning I arrived at work and found a Dilbert cartoon clipped from that morning's paper and taped to my office door. As I stood and read it, I saw the handwritten abbreviation "CSC" and a roughly drawn rain cloud added to the third frame of the cartoon. I quickly read the captions, and chuckling at the humor, I knew immediately who had left the comic on my door. It was my friend and colleague Tom Frank. I also knew both what the CSC inscription meant and why he had made the connection with the cartoon. It was as though Scott Adams had been in yesterday's meeting. At the time, Tom and I had known each other for nearly a quarter of a century, working together at two different companies for fifteen of those years. We shared a sense of frustration with many aspects of corporate life. We also shared a sense of humor and over the years developed a number of somewhat silly yet oddly telling theories for the logic-defying corporate shenanigans we continually encountered. One such theoretical explanation we referred to as the CSC - The Cosmic Stupidity Cloud. This theory explained how management made decisions using faulty assumptions, without the bother of recognizing obvious facts or worrying about reaching rational conclusions based on those facts. Sometimes it seemed as if the Cosmic Stupidity Cloud caused those under its influence to ignore all facts as extraneous. We had observed that individuals as well as groups exhibited the effects of the CSC, the presence of which was either a signal of impending failure or a guarantee of that failure. Either way, doom was just around the corner. This malevolent cloud seemed to muddle the minds of managers and team members alike, encouraging them to make choices that were utterly incomprehensible. The cartoon that morning depicted a classic case of the Cosmic Stupidity Cloud influencing Dilbert's world as the "pointy-haired boss" once again sent the company ship on a collision course with ...

The Illusion of Free Will (Book of Lists) by I. M. Probulos 4.2 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 17 hours ago

With hundreds of examples I. M Probulos explores the illusion of free will and explains in succinct and clear terms the reason for his position. As part of the Book of Lists series, this book includes over 30 lists, but it much more than that. It has a very clear narrative and perspective and its goal is to define exactly what the illusion of free will means and the issues involved. This book has been thoroughly researched and includes findings from psychology, genetics, neurobiology, quantum physics, and numerous other sources to back up the author's deterministic view of the universe. The first point is that making a choice and having free will are two, entirely separate issues; second, personal responsibility and consequences are also separate from free will. The book explores numerous approaches to the concept of free will and includes numerous scenarios and examples of deterministic behavior. The author lists positive determinist behaviors, and finally, there are numerous additional resources including books, debates, internet articles, and even some competing information. The author posits the concept that we can be positive causal ramjets. The concept of a ramjet is simple-since it operates by air intake, the faster it goes, the more oxygen it takes in, and the faster it goes. So the deterministic argument against "if everything is determined, why do anything?" or "if I am just a robot then why not just go home and sit on the couch?" is that, for one, nothing changes about choices or activity in a causal world, and two, we want to cascade as many positive and beneficial causal events as possible and minimize the negative. In addition to having this on your Kindle to read anytime, you can download this E-book to your personal computer, Android phone or iPad. The Shoestring Campaigner’s Guide to Free Media by Sean McConeghy 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

One of the most important things about running a campaign on a budget is knowing how to get free media attention. Attracting free media attention is one of the most important aspects of running a campaign, especially a budget campaign, because it offers you a way to build your name recognition. Many races are won solely on the basis of one candidate getting his or her name in front of voters far more often than their opponent. Part of that is through yard signs, palm cards, and - gulp - paid media, but those things cost money. Attracting free media to your campaign is a great way to build your name recognition without begging family, friends, and supporters for money. This book will tell you how to do it. This book covers: - how to write press releases - how to use social media like Facebook and Twitter effectively - how to get yourself radio interviews - how to get your name in newspapers - how to establish yourself as a serious candidate and policy expert - how to build real momentum for your campaign through photo and video - how to leverage support and expertise from supporters near and far - how much and when to use your website to maximize your impact - and much more! Running a political takes a lot of time and effort. This book doesn't change that. It does, however, help political novices and those running low budget, local campaigns to get the most out of their time and effort. If you execute the methods recommended in the book effectively, you can significantly improve your chances of success. Stop trying to beat party bigwigs and big dollar donors on their terms. You won't out-raise them, and you'll likely find it very difficult to compete with them in terms of endorsements. What you can do, though, is outwork them and outsmart them through the methods recommended in this book. Running a political campaign, especially on a shoestring budget, isn't easy, but it is doable. This book can show you how to do it.

Radical Coup: A Case for Reaction by Sean Gabb (The Hampden Press) 5.0 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 13 hours ago

From the Foreword by Hans-Hermann Hoppe: Gabb provides detailed analyses of many issues currently hotly debated both in and outside of libertarian circles all across the Western world, and assesses their role and impetus in the process of social change. Thus, the reader will find many valuable, historically informed insights regarding the issues of "free" (mass) immigration vs. controlled borders, multiculturalism vs. cultural homogeneity, secession vs. centralization, of left-libertarianism and the new, Alternative Right, and of Christian and Islamic culture. Most importantly especially for libertarians and, as I should confess, much in line with what I have tried to accomplish for quite some time with my own writings, in reaction to the diagnosed disease -- the Radical Coup -- Gabb proposes a detailed, equally radical cure -- his Case for Reaction -- that envisions a programmatic alignment of traditional conservatism and libertarianism with the common goal of restoring a bourgeois society as the highest achievement of Western civilization. This book is an update of Gabb's Cultural Revolution, Culture War, first published in 2007 to general acclaim by conservatives, libertarians, nationalists and anarchists. This is the book that introduced the concepts of Cultural Marxism and Frankfurt School subversion to the English Right, single-handedly, and within a few weeks, transforming the language of analysis and action on the British political right. The present volume contains the whole original text of Cultural Revolution, Culture War, but now includes a set of further examinations that extend and adapt the analysis, plus an Introduction that summarises Gabb's analysis of what has happened in England and of the steps that need to be taken if English Civilisation is to be restored to health. Briefly put, his central thesis is that the British ruling class has, since at least 1997, turned itself into a totalitarian conspiracy, at war both with liberty and with ...

BANKRUPTING THE THIRD WORLD: How the Global Elite Drown Poor Nations in a Sea of Debt (The Underground Knowledge Series Book 6) by James Morcan (Sterling Gate Books) 4.2 Stars (14 Reviews)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

Dedicated to the impoverished in forgotten places of the world, this book questions whether the likes of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the United States Agency for International Development and other big international aid organizations help or hinder the world's poorest people. It also questions whether the aid packages provided are genuine or whether they are scams designed to subjugate Third World countries. BANKRUPTING THE THIRD WORLD: How the Global Elite Drown Poor Nations in a Sea of Debt, by novelists, filmmakers and independent researchers James Morcan & Lance Morcan, exposes the culture of corruption within the aforementioned aid organizations and the arrogance with which they treat their Third World 'clients.' The Morcans reveal there's a nefarious hidden agenda at play whereby the 'generosity' extended by international aid organisations in assisting the development of the Third World and providing relief in the event of natural disasters comes with serious strings attached. Strings designed to fleece vulnerable nations. The reader is reminded the economic hit men popularized in John Perkins' 2004 bestseller 'Confessions of an Economic Hit Man' are still alive and well - in Africa in particular. BANKRUPTING THE THIRD WORLD puts two poverty-stricken nations under the magnifying glass to reveal the long-term impact of being the recipient of substantial financial aid from the West. The resulting debt accrued by these nations may surprise even the most skeptical reader. In writing this book, the authors were motivated by one sickening statistic: 21,000 people die from starvation every day. That's one person every four seconds! More sickening is the fact such deaths are unnecessary given there is more than enough wealth in the world for everyone to at least receive the basic necessities of life, and more than enough in the Third World for it to organically sustain itself. By the time you get to the end of this book you'll see ...

Meditations: A New Translation by Marcus Aurelius (MA Press) 4.5 Stars (4,769 Reviews)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

Marcus Aurelius was born in Rome in 121 AD and would become its Emperor from 161 to 180. Considered by Machiavelli as the last of the good Emperors, Marcus Aurelius would become one of the most important of the Stoic philosophers. The "Meditations," which he wrote in Greek, are among the most noteworthy expressions of this system, and exhibit it favorably on its practical side. The work is a series of twelve books that he intended for his own guidance and self-improvement, which picture with faithfulness the mind and character of this noblest of the Emperors. Simple in style and sincere in tone, they record for all time the height reached by pagan aspiration in its effort to solve the problem of conduct.

Blackphobia - Bluephobia: Police Race and Rage in America by D T Pollard (Book Express) 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 13 hours ago

There is a crisis in the United States that exploded during the summer of 2016. Levels of distrust between the Black community and Police community seemed to spiral out of control. Two separate events, one in Minnesota and one in Baton Rouge, Louisiana that resulted in the deaths of two Black men at the hands of police officers seemed to be the straw that broke the camels back. Protests erupted nationwide. During one of those protests frustration transitioned in deadly violence after the end of a peaceful demonstration when a man armed with an assault style rifle unleashed death in Downtown Dallas, Texas. Five policemen were killed and several other injured, including protesters by his gunfire. A few days later another lone gunman traveled hundreds of miles to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the city where a black man was killed by police earlier, and killed three policemen. Other incidents were to come. It seemed that a level of mutual anxiety and fear had build up between the police and Black communities had developed and it has to be resolved.

LAME DUCK: & Other Political Terminology by Larry E Lambert (Larry Lambert) Price verified one day ago

LAME DUCK is a brief description of various political terms and what they really mean. Cartoons help drive the point home. In many cases there is more than a little truth in the definitions. Larry Lambert has written for various syndicated cartoons and TV standups. Satire and irony are two of the tools Larry especially enjoys. He also shows a weakness for puns, but is looking for a treatment center. Jim Allen is a cartoonist and educator. He is the holder of a doctorate from Northern Illinois University and teaches at a university in Illinois. During the Clinton years he did a stint as a syndicated political cartoonist at the Chicago Sun-Times Features. Jim creates gag cartoons and writes and draws The Beauforts comic strip on GoComics.

To be able to seek unmet fulfillment the second time around? But after this life is over - that's it, right? There aren't any do-overs... are there? This is what most of us grow up to believe. But there are people out there who not only entertain the concept of reincarnation but insist that they have actually been reincarnated over several lifetimes themselves. Are these just imaginative people spinning their yarns? Possibly. But as it stands, there are certain cases where people have claimed to be reincarnated -- cases that are not easy to explain away as coincidence or simply good imaginations at work. These are the cases that are truly astonishing -- and the ones that we present to you in full detail in this book. Some of the cases presented in this book include: ?A child post 9/11 reincarnation ?A reincarnated Japanese soldier ?Jenny Cockell's life on repeat ?The reincarnation of a war hero ?Throwing stones at a past-life assassin ?A reincarnation hailing from the gilded age of Hollywood ?And much more! An Anvil of Night, A Hammer for Dawn: Poetry and Stories by Dave Matthes (Amazon) 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

Matthes' fifth volume of poetry and stories, narrated in his story-driven, poetic fashion, paints a new, unexpected frontier of his life: living with the love of his life and their cat Hank in a one-room apartment smack dab in the middle of a morally questionable part of town, a place brimming and swarming with all manners of societal trash, neighborly awkwardness, and reminders of how not to live one's life. In these pages, Matthes writes about what it's like to confront and ultimately accept the idea of a radically changing life after years of promiscuity have dominated each and every one of his steps, every meal, every drink, every spray of cologne, every whore's bath, and every page he's ever written, as well as the importance of AND the rewards that come with cutting out those in life who were once thought to be pertinent. "An Anvil of Night, A Hammer for Dawn", in a way serves as an epilogue of sorts to the themes and "story" that began with Matthes' first autobiographical novel: 2011's "The Slut Always Rides Shotgun", and doubles as a literary beacon of hope for the soul's survival in a world that is constantly warping its nature into more vice-like terrors each day.

The Bayou Killer: Life of Serial Killer Ronald J. Dominique (Serial Killers Book 18) by Jack Smith (Maplewood Publishing) 3.4 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 2 days ago

We could swear some people are incapable of murdering another human being. Serial killer Ronald Dominique was also known as the Bayou killer was such a man. With an exterior that seems almost normal and some would say pitiful, this serial murderer was on a mission, not one anyone could have ever imagined... Some killers are truly surprising to find. Ronald J. Dominique is one such killer. Read this book to find out about how he came to be one of the most terrible people to walk on this planet. They say that the perpetrators of the very worst of deeds are often the people you'd least suspect. This was certainly true of Ted Bundy; he was a handsome, charming man whom many liked and respected. It was also true of accused Canadian serial killer Bruce McArthur, who had many friends and was well connected. No one expected that he might be capable of such violence. But then, what about Ronald Dominique? Nobody expected such things from him, either -- but for slightly different reasons. It wasn't because Dominique was charming; he was generally considered ugly and uncouth. Nor was it because he had a good job and was well connected -- he delivered pizza and worked as a meter reader. So why is it that no one suspected this man of doing such horrible things? Simply because he seemed too pathetic to pull them off. To those who knew him, he was just a simpleton eking out a meager existence -- but Ronald Dominique proved to be much smarter than anyone imagined. Ending the lives of 23 men and evading detection for over a decade, he became one of the most prolific serial killers on record. In this book, we'll explore the startlingly complex machinations of that warped mind. Dominique was a misfit who never quite fit into normal society. For the most part, he was ignored and sidelined. As this slovenly character delivered your pizza and read your meter, he didn't merit a second glance. But as this book details, there was much more to this crazed killer than met the ...

Smoking, Class, and the Legitimation of Power: Reflections on the War against Tobacco and on the Rise of the New Puritanism by Sean Gabb (Hampden Press) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 days ago

"The puritan hated bear baiting, not because it gave pain to the bear, but because it gave pleasure to the spectators." T.B. Macaulay, 1848 The "War against Tobacco" is a fact of modern life. We have high taxes, bans on promotion, campaigns against smoking, and growing attempts to criminalise smoking outside the home -- and even inside the home. In this book, Sean Gabb shows that the "War" is part of a much larger project of lifestyle regulation by the ruling class, and that its final victory will be to reduce us to a mob of terrified and atomised serfs, toiling for the enrichment of others. He examines this "War" in its political and historical and its theological aspects, showing its alleged justifications as nothing more than a discourse imposed by the ideological state apparatus. Extract: The function of the war against tobacco is to provide a set of plausible excuses for the extraction of resources from the people and for the exercise of power over them. There is nothing new or unique about this war. It has been waged on and off for centuries. It is similar to the established wars against alcohol and drugs, and to the gathering war against supposedly unhealthy foods. Though, with the decline of public rationality, we now have our own witches and heretics to be combated -- or, to be explicit, our racists and our paedophiles -- the regulation of lifestyle is still the most plausible set of excuses for enlarging the income and status of our ruling class. This is a class issue, and no discussion of tobacco policy can be complete without an understanding of the dynamics of class. CONTENTS • INTRODUCTION: SMOKING, THE RULING CLASS AND LEGITIMATION DISCOURSE • THE RIGHT TO SMOKE: AN HISTORICAL VIEW • THE RIGHT TO SMOKE: A CHRISTIAN VIEW • THE RIGHT TO SMOKE: A CONSERVATIVE VIEW • COMMERCIAL ADVERTISING: A THREATENED HUMAN RIGHT • TOBACCO, CHILDREN AND ENTRAPMENT: A CASE FOR CONCERN? • SAVING THE KIDDIES, ENSLAVING ADULTS • THE PASSIVE ...

The Orphan Conspiracies: 29 Conspiracy Theories from The Orphan Trilogy by James Morcan (Sterling Gate Books) 4.1 Stars (47 Reviews)    Price verified 2 days ago

The Orphan Conspiracies: 29 Conspiracy Theories from The Orphan Trilogy, written by novelists and filmmakers James Morcan & Lance Morcan with a foreword by leading scientist Dr. Takaaki Musha and an afterword by renowned historian Professor Richard Spence, contains hard-to-find knowledge. This non-fiction book is based on the political, scientific and financial insights in the Morcans' bestselling international thriller series The Orphan Trilogy (novels that merge fact with fiction by incorporating real-world theories on public figures and major organizations). Now the authors provide detailed analysis for each one of those controversial theories. In many ways, this exhaustively-researched work is the secret history of the 20th and 21st Centuries. But more than a history, it reveals what is happening right now behind the scenes - in underground bunkers, in the corridors of power, in prime banks and meetings of the world's elite. The Morcans connect the dots between many nefarious events in recent times and strip away the seemingly infinite classified layers of governments and intelligence agencies. Shockingly, they expose a splinter civilization operating in our midst that has at its disposal extraordinary suppressed technologies, unlimited resources and enormous black budgets - all inadvertently financed by everyday taxpayers. Garnering evidence from court cases, declassified government files and mainstream media reports, the authors disclose little-known facts on a wide range of topics. Diverse subjects such as mind control, eugenics, false flag operations, The Queen's hidden assets, secret prisons, The Catcher in the Rye enigma, political assassinations, medical cover-ups, genius learning techniques, Yamashita's Gold, the Jonestown mystery, Americanized Nazis, the bankrupting of Third World nations, underground bases, the US Federal Reserve, the New World Order, forbidden science, the War on Drugs, subliminal messages and even extraterrestrials. The ...

A must-read for every mortal, bring a new perspective to living well and dying well. Certified End of Life Doula, Cindy Kaufman shares her wisdom gained in her more than 25 years in the field of death and dying. Kaufman highlights the ways our fear-of-death culture hinders our acceptance of the inevitability of our dying, and how this negatively impacts our willingness to talk openly within our families and communities about our wishes for our final days, whenever they may come. Although we humans make plans for everything in our lives, including our education, our careers, and even our vacations, we fail to plan for the one thing that will assuredly affect every one of us at some point. With her practical wisdom, compassion, and encouragement, Kaufman eases us into these realities and guides us forward with her tips and worksheets that assist the reader in formulating a plan for dying well and thus, also, living well. What would life be worth if there were no death? Who would enjoy the sun if it never rained? Who would yearn for the day if there were no night?~ Glenn Ringtved

Experience Is Divinity: Matter as Metaphor (Return to Grace Book 8) by Michael Adzema (Gonzo Sage Media) 5.0 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 13 hours ago

There are an infinite number of poignant dramas... infinite horrors and heroines and tragic figures and heroic figures and demonic and angelic people. There are all of the characters beyond imagining, and they are all God. This is the way God continues not just experiencing Himself, but experiences Himself as multiple. We are all God, each acting our part, but, being human, forgetting who we are and fully identifying with our characters. The part of ourselves who is God, She knows She is God still. She knows She's God... playing all these parts. Life, Experience, That Which Is is perfect in its seeming imperfection. It is fantastic and wonderful. Ultimately, as Sathya Sai Baba said, All of Reality is God's divine leela or play. More than anything else, Existence is fun.

Bible and the Postmodern Man: Is the Bible Relevant in the Postmodern Age? by Ebenezer Afolabi (With the Word Independent Publisher) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 13 hours ago

The Bible is certainly one of the oldest books written in human history. It was written in the century far removed from ours and its approach to life issues is quite different from ours. There are apparent cultural, historical, sociological, and philosophical gaps that exist between the man in the Bible and the 21st Century man. Consequently, the practices in the Bible are foreign to the postmodern man, hence, the Bible is considered irrelevant to him. The questions are, how relevant is the Bible in the postmodern age? Can the Bible proffer solution to the problems of the postmodern man? Does the Bible make any sense to him at all? Is it not contradictory to admit to the antiquity of the Bible and still believe in its relevance in the postmodern age? These are the questions this book will provide answers to.

THE WORLDS SHORTEST BOOK ON BREXIT by Dame DJ Price verified 2 days ago

BREXIT is one of the most divisive issues in Britain since The Civil Wars, which ended in the execution of Charles 1 and the rise of Oliver Cromwell dividing families, villages, communities, faiths and social classes. Like BREXIT one group was diametrically opposed to the other and had no interest in being 'subjugated' to their rule or paying a high price in moral, financial, political, security, legal, trade, power and self-determining matters. We will never get another chance to get out of Europe. This is like a divorce. Both paths will have short term losses but only one will lead to a glorious, strong, independent, worthwhile, and robust future. David Cameron offered this referendum to the nation as a condition of his reelection and he now seems to be regretting it because of his commitment to 'leave'. Why has he not remained neutral? Given both sides of the argument? Left it to the British people to decide without threats and instilling fear? Why doesn't he think Great Britain is capable is self-determination? It's not about size - it's about intelligence. This short book offers comments, truth, questions, & ideas; everything we have been thinking about for years but not saying.

Peace: The Art of Mindfulness to Eliminate Stress (Traveling at Life's Speed Book 1) by Jeffry C. Beers 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 13 hours ago

Thich Nhat Hanh, a renowned mindfulness teacher and Zen Buddhist monk once said, "There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way!" Perhaps the same can be said about peace. Indeed, finding the underlying peace within each of us is not only possible it is our birthright. However, like happiness, peace is not something to go and achieve. It is here and now always, simply waiting for us to get the psychological self, developed over a lifetime of biological and social conditioning, out of the way. As we learn to remove the barriers imposed by the psychological self or "ego" and become totally present with the now, we find peace there waiting for us in the stillness. That is what this book is all about, letting go of the programmed psychological self by processing, or "digesting," the destructive emotions that created it in the first place. When we process emotions it is typically done at a superficial level at best. However, when we digest them, we assimilate the necessary information they provide, and then eliminate the excess energy from the body, preventing the build-up of stress that leads to ill health. This is reminiscent of the digestive system absorbing essential nutrients from food, and then excreting it from the body, preventing an excess build-up of toxins. Once we discover how to digest the emotions correctly, we will discover the authentic self present in us all. In turn, we will be afforded the opportunity to live the life of authenticity we were always meant to live.

The Rene Descartes Collection by Rene Descartes (Steppenwolf Press) 4.2 Stars (20 Reviews)    Price verified 2 days ago

Descartes laid the foundation for 17th-century continental rationalism, later advocated by Spinoza and Leibniz, and was later opposed by the empiricist school of thought consisting of Hobbes, Locke, Berkeley, and Hume. Leibniz, Spinoza, and Descartes were all well-versed in mathematics as well as philosophy, and Descartes and Leibniz contributed greatly to science as well. Descartes' Meditations on First Philosophy (1641) continues to be a standard text at most university philosophy departments. Descartes' influence in mathematics is equally apparent; the Cartesian coordinate system was named after him. He is credited as the father of analytical geometry, the bridge between algebra and geometry -- used in the discovery of infinitesimal calculus and analysis. Descartes was also one of the key figures in the Scientific Revolution. The Rene Descartes Collection brings together the finest writings of one of the greatest thinkers of western civilization. The contributions of Descartes played a key role in liberating the western mind from the strangelhold of religion. Featuring: Rules for the Direction of the Mind Discourse on the Method Meditations on First Philosophy and Principles of Philosophy
