The Opinionated Spectator: Born to be Muslim by Pat Wary 5.0 Stars (3 Reviews)    Price verified 47 minutes ago

The Islamic way of life is not confined to only religious practices, which makes its scope knitted into all disciplines of contemporary academia. The content of this moral exhortation is an audacious attempt to reunite all the secular fragments of our knowledge back to their divine roots. The goal is to bring the focus back to Revelation and share certain truths that may continue to benefit others. What is the origin of today's Islamophobia? Where is the mainstream Muslim voice in the barrage of misinformation with the extremes of both sides dominating the discourse? This book aims to fill that void through a systematic dive into world history. It is a critical investigation for our time to help navigate a conflicted world of science, philosophy, and religion. The answers to many current issues are buried in the depths of a rich scholastic tradition, which are summarized concisely. Many myths are debunked, categories deconstructed, and then reconnected to demonstrate the Islamic way of life. Thousands of years of human achievements in philosophy, science, and theology are churned through a Muslim perspective to address contemporary concerns. It is a book about everything an author is advised not to write. It is dense and difficult but a must-read for all curious souls!

Barry & Ruffles: Phil Osafa's Stoned by Chris Whyatt 5.0 Stars (3 Reviews)    Price verified 60 minutes ago

Phil Osafa's Stoned! (Paperback Title) "At one point, I laughed for a full five minutes. The world needs the writing of Chris Whyatt." - Louise Blackwick - bestselling author of the Vivian Amberville fantasy novels. A humorous retelling for a different generation. Who is Phil Osafa? What does The Dissentry of Magic do? How do you persuade your (drinking, gambling, thieving) weenix to behave like a respectable owl? What is ditchwitch? And why can't girls play? How do you tame the tiny, ugly, vicious - yet strangely desirable - guardian on the third floor? The answers are waiting inside this clever little file of fluid locations... Barry's uncles, Vermont and Patrice, are petrified of all things magical (they don't mind the tax avoidance part so much) and try everything to stop him from taking his rightful place at Pigsnorts School of Wizardry, Witchery, and Judicial Evasion. With the help of wild, magical giant, Rumorous Haggard, he begins to learn of a world beyond Muddledom. New friends, Don Wheezeasy, Penelope Perfect, and Hermainly Grunger join him, lifting his spirits (Breville Shortass being more of a dampener) and an incredible adventure is about to begin! "Camp innuendo frivolity, à la Benny Hill, Carry On, etc, intertwined with ridiculous Pythonesque slapstick. But still manages to recreate the atmosphere of the original. Loved it!" - The Fantasy Review ?????????? "I don't understand why more people aren't raving about this brilliant parody. Give it a go, you'll love it!" - Georgia_P (Inkitt) ???????? "Hilarious." - Moreblessing67 (Inkitt)

Stopping Napoleon : War and intrigue in the Mediterranean by Tom Pocock 4.1 Stars (94 Reviews)    Price verified one minute ago

Following the Battle of Trafalgar, Britain had one objective: stopping Napoleon at all costs... After his defeat by Nelson at Trafalgar, Napoleon knew he could never invade England. Many thought he would try to take over the vast, crumbling Ottoman Empire, return to Egypt and even march on India. So the British concentrated on the Mediterranean: for a decade it became the scene of dangers, real or imagined, and of battles both on land and at sea. All was dictated by a fierce determination to stop Napoleon. Stopping Napoleon is a fast-paced, beautifully written account that should be read by all aficionados of the age of Nelson and Napoleon. Praise for Tom Pocock: 'Pocock has restored this neglected campaign to its true importance in this lively and important book' - Sunday Times 'Compendiously detailed, expert analysis... No detail escapes Mr Pocock' - The Spectator 'An enthralling read' - Brighton Argus Tom Pocock was the author of eighteen books (and editor of two more), mostly biographies but including two about his experiences as a newspaper war correspondent. Born in London in 1925, he was educated at Westminster School and Cheltenham College, joining the Royal Navy in 1943. He has contributed to many magazines and appeared on television documentaries about Nelson and the subject of another of his biographies, the novelist and imperialist Sir Rider Haggard.

The bear and the swastika: Book 1 of the Axis Alternate series by Max Lamirande 4.1 Stars (186 Reviews)    Price verified 60 minutes ago

The year is 1939. The World rocks with the news of the signing of the Germano-Soviet pact. A dark veil soon falls on Europe as Poland is invaded and destroyed by the overwhelming forces of the Wehrmacht and the Red Army. France and the United Kingdom can only sit by and watch the two military juggernauts obliterate the Polish state. No one believes the two totalitarian regimes can agree in the long term as their ideologies completely contradict each other. Russia wants influence in the Balkans, has eyes on Finland, and wants an opening to the Mediterranean. Germany needs Romanian oil to keep its war machine operational, and Hitler is adamant about not letting the Bolsheviks gain another inch of ground in Europe. At least not more than he has already given out in the treaty of non-aggression signed before the Polish campaign. The year is 1940. The French campaign unfolds with a disaster for the Allies, and the Germans win an incredible victory over the combined forces of the United Kingdom and France. British forces narrowly escape to their island with the remnants of their armies, and France surrenders. The Germans occupy half of the country. It seems that the swastika will conquer the world, especially with the Russian bear watching its back. All the while, the Battle of England rages between the Luftwaffe and the Royal Air Force. The fate of the last free nation of Europe hangs in the balance. Will the courageous Brits and their new Prime Minister Winston Churchill prevail? And then something happens in Asia. Russo-Japanese again attack each other at Khalkin Gol, as they did a year earlier. Only this time, Stalin feels quite secure with his German alliance and decides that he has had enough of Imperial Japan in Manchuria. Red Army troops are sent east while Japanese Imperial forces mobilize throughout the Empire. War is all but unavoidable between the two powers. Germano-Soviet talks are organized in August 1940. The subject is nothing less than the ...

Famous Political Assassinations Throught History by Ozias Marcovici Price verified 7 hours ago

Assassinations have been a plague on civilizations since ancient times. Human nature has chosen the path of eliminating rivals when peaceful ways of resolving a dispute did not lead to the desired outcome for an individual, clique or an entire system. Dr Ozias Marcovici's new book sheds light on political assassinations throughout history. The book is the result of painstaking research into the two possible outcomes of an attempt on one's life - the successful or sometimes failed ending. Richly illustrated, it reads like a good detective novel. Again, we can declare that the reality of life often exceeds fiction by far.

How To Speak Fluent English And Impress People In 30 Days: The No Grammar, No Vocabulary, and No Long Boring Exercises Solution by Amit Mehta 4.3 Stars (121 Reviews)    Price verified 10 hours ago

Reader Reviews: Ashish () "Very easy to understand" Razique Anwar () "The language and content of the book is even helpful for class 6 student." Best book () "This is one of the best book for English learning, I never read this kind of books for English learning, thank you so much to author Amit Mehta." Dear Reader, "Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated." - Confucius Trust me: Mastering English too is easy. The reason you fear it is because you do not know the alternate and the best ways to master this language (fast). You might be a lawyer, a car mechanic, a hair stylist, blogger, internet marketer or a realty agent. Or you may be a housewife, a student, or a fresh graduate who has just entered an MNC, if you do not have good command over English-your life is doomed. Read the statistic below: Approximately 90% of Indians cannot speak this language. And this one deficiency robs them of opportunities and success. Want to know the worst part of the deal? Teachers and learners are still using the old, out dated, inefective methods. Is it not similar to driving a bullock cart in the times of supersonic cars? Is it not like taking the stairs when you have an escalator to reach the top floor? I have ample evidence (which I will provide throught out this book) to prove that grammar, vocabulary, reading long boring textbooks, solving mind numbing exercises is not the only way to learn English. So if you belong to the old school of learners, I urge you to leave reading this book right now, for what I am discussing in this book is not for those traditional learners. This book is meant for those who want to adopt the newer, better, and faster methods to learn things. Below are 7 compelling reasons why you should buy this book: 1. How to use the method adopted by the best communicators that will reduce your work load by 50% (and how Barrack Obama used the same strategy to win elections in the US) 2. 3 facts that will help you ...

Unmanageable: A Memoir: Drunken Wisdom (The Powerless Series Book 4) by Lela Fox (A-FEX Books) 4.5 Stars (69 Reviews)    Price verified 13 hours ago

It seemed like a good idea at the time. He seemed like a nice guy... rich, charming, and sexy. My decisions and illusions seemed perfectly logical to me. So I couldn't understand why people were arguing with me, demanding that I "run from that bastard and get my shit together!" Unmanageable is a crazy tour through two years of anxiety and drunken denial of reality. With marriage #3, problems came like machine-gun fire; I could either dodge or stay drunk on vodka. I chose the vodka. These years were short by the calendar but long on bizarre. From the wedding in a Chinese restaurant to a stint in jail, Unmanageable recreates the most unmanageable time of my life. Underneath, I knew what I saw - a drunk on the way to rock bottom. For the first time, I questioned my sanity. On the white sands of a Bahamas beach, I pleaded to a Higher Power I didn't believe in. I knew the game was over, but I wasn't finished yet. The Powerless series is a memoir told as a story; a story so twisted that it took seven books to reveal it all. This is the fourth stop in the crazy train ride of my life - a zany story about getting drunk, getting sober, and the quest for grace.

Bloody Ground: Black Rifles in Korea by John Holway 4.2 Stars (24 Reviews)    Price verified 11 minutes ago

Korea is "the forgotten war." But to those who fought in it, it was the "unforgettable war." If the names of all those killed were put on a wall, it would be larger than the Vietnam Wall. And Korea lasted only three years, Vietnam about ten. The agony of the winter of 1950-51 is an epic to compare with Valley Forge and the Bulge. Korea was also our last segregated war. This is the story of the black 24th Infantry Regiment, told in the words of the men themselves. Like all black troops since the Civil War, they were reviled by whites and their own commander for "bugging out" - running before the enemy. The charge can still be read in the Army's own official histories. Yet the 24th left more blood on the field than their white comrades - if they did bug out, they must have been running the wrong way. It's a good thing we weren't with Custer," one black GI muttered - "they'd have blamed the whole thing on us." The 24th won the first battle of the war, won its division's first Medal of Honor, and guarded the shortest and most vulnerable road to Pusan. If the port had fallen, the war would have been lost, leaving a red dagger pointed at Japan. It did not fall. That winter, after the Chinese attacked, the entire American army bugged out in perhaps the worst military disaster in American history. "That," said another black veteran, "was when I learned that whites could run as fast as blacks." This is the story of those unsung heroes, who helped turn the Communist tide for the first time. The men bring that forgotten war and their own unsung bravery to life in their own sometimes funny, often heart-breaking, and always exciting words.

Life is good for Benedict Aritza... He owns a butcher shop with his best friend, he is the town's favorite, ladies always smile his way and he's even put forward as a potential future mayor. His perfect little life is disrupted though when Curley, his business partner, goes missing while on a buffalo-hunting expedition. Benedict is not the kind of man to give up on his friend. Since then, she's been very protective of her brother, the only family she has left. When Curley goes missing, there is no way she will let this pass without a fight. When she discovers to her horror that the vicious Pablo Javier gang is behind this, she knows there's no time to waste and that she should act immediately. If she has to put up with Benedict for a few days in order to save her brother... so be it. Yet, Hallie has always liked Benedict, more than she'd care to admit. As Benedict and Hallie embark on their journey together, they'll soon find that their quest was never what they thought it would be. What started as a rescue mission ends up becoming an escape plan to save their own lives. The Discourse of Conflict: Nonverbal semiotics and discursive practice in Northern Ireland's Troubles 1977-82 by Warren Hately 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 60 minutes ago

The Discourse of Conflict focuses on the "prison war" between Republican inmates and their British captors, and the subsequent "dirty" protest and hunger strikes, to deal with two problems central to contemporary philosophy: the unacknowledged bias of structuralist theory towards linguistic signs and the lack of a coherent theorisation of social conflict. To address these conundrums, Hately reconciles Saussurean and Peircean semiotics and then uses Ruthrof's corporeal pragmatics to break from the verbocentric idea of language as a closed system, showing instead that verbal meanings originate from the body, its senses and its imagination, as informed by the deixis of individual communities. With the transformation of linguistic semiotics into corporeality, Foucault's notion of discourse and the neglected category of discursive practice are then reworked to show how statements based on nonverbal signs might function discursively. The culmination of the 1970s Northern Irish prison war in the events of the 1981 hunger strikes offers a study that unites the focus upon nonverbal discourses with the examination of conflict. In exploring the ways in which Republican hunger strikers struggled for legitimacy with the prison authorities, Hately shows how previous notions of conflict, especially Lyotard's différend, are thrown into disrepute by a corporeal perspective recognising the intersemiotic and heterosemiotic character of communication. The availability of diverse semiotic media such as the visual, the haptic, the proximic, etc., offers positions in which conflicts may be regulated without ending in the stalemate Lyotard describes. The division of semio-discursive phenomena into verbal and nonverbal elements, and the tracing of the effects these elements have upon ideational and pragmatic planes of action, also reveal a variety of strategies related to conflict that are superposable upon other instances. As a result, The Discourse of Conflict suggests that the ...
