Why Did He Bother?: A Pastor's Account of God's Abundant Mercy, Love, and Grace by Allen Bujno 4.6 Stars (44 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

This is a unique, humorous, inspirational, encouraging, faith-building, faith-challenging story of endurance, perseverance, and reconciliation. It will make you laugh and it will make you think. Why does God bother to do the things He does in our lives? Why doesn't He just let us keep believing what we were believing, keep doing the things we were doing, continually making mistakes and using bad judgment? I believe God puts people into our lives on purpose; To strengthen us, to encourage us, to teach us, to correct us, to stop us and to point us in the right direction so we can become who we are and all we were created to be. The following stories are an attempt to show the extraordinary lengths the Lord went through, the situations I encountered, the people whose paths crossed my life and the key, often humorous, moments that occurred to teach me, to correct me, to stop me or point me in the right direction. People kept telling me to wtite these stories down. Well, I finally have.

Desperate Journey: Escape from Burma in 1942, through 900 miles of arduous, Japanese-occupied territory by Francis Clifford (Lume Books) 4.5 Stars (320 Reviews)    Price verified 7 hours ago

"This is a story of escape; a true account of how a dwindling group of soldiers made their way to safety through nearly a thousand miles of Japanese-occupied territory in the teeth of the monsoon." On 20th April 1942, Captain Thompson received word that the defensive line held by their Chinese allies had broken; orders or no orders, he knew they had to move. Separated from the rest of the Burma Army and weary from months of continuous fighting retreats, the survivors of his Karen Company began their long walk northwards. In the suffocating Burmese jungle the days turned to weeks, the weeks into months, and all the while the mental decay kept pace with their physical deterioration. And yet, with such indomitable men as Subedar-Major Kan Choke and Subedar Ba Gyaw at Thompson's side, his Company clung to each other and endured. When Fort Hertz finally came into view in August, the journey of nine hundred miles and untold maladies had left many of them little more than walking skeletons. Written in 1944 but remaining unseen for over thirty years, Desperate Journey is an extraordinary true story of human endeavour, of faith, courage, tenacity and mutual trust in the face of insurmountable odds. Praise for Francis Clifford: 'Not since Graham Greene was creating his adventures has there been a writer with such haunting quality, the sweet sound of sad beauty, which Clifford engenders' - New York Herald Tribune 'Mr. Clifford constructs an anatomy of fear, drawing in with fine, sharp lines the exposed and shrinking nerves' - The Times Francis Clifford is a pen name of Arthur Leonard Bell Thompson , a British writer of crime and thriller novels. He was born in Bristol, served with great distinction in the Second World War, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order.

Playing poker in a Southern Juke Joint was not the typical activity of a 10 year- old boy, but for Gary Revel it was. His mother and father divorced when he was 5. The new mix dropped recently and is bringing new light to the subject of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Along the way Gary Revel investigated the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in association with the US Government's HSCA - House Select Committee on Assassinations. Thirteen Times That the Lord Has Spoken Directly to My Heart by James Thomas Lee Jr Price verified 10 hours ago

What I am about to say might sound confusing. But it is not meant to be. First, this book is about me. But second, it is NOT about me. In the following pages, I will share thirteen times from my life when the Lord had spoken directly to me. For the first three times, I had NOT known what was happening. For the last ten times plus one, I had been fully aware of what was happening. So in that sense, this book is about me. It will share fourteen experiences from my life. But this book is not really about me because the goal is to show how anyone can have the same kind of close personal relationship with the Lord that I have had. There are certain things that anyone can do to bring himself or herself into the Lord's presence. Hopefully by the time that the reader has gotten to the end of the final chapter, some fresh ideas will come to mind about how to make that relationship happen. I have wanted to write this book for a very long time. So maybe, this will be my final book. But as always, my desire has been to bring praise, honor, and glory to the Lord. He is worthy because of all that He does and has done for those who have come to Him.

No Looking Back: School's Out and Life Begins by Lannah Sawers-Diggins 2.8 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 14 hours ago

Lannah grew up in the Outback in Australia. Her life was filled with the usual and sometimes not so usual childhood joys, frustrations and adventures. The difficulties and challenges made her what she is today, an accomplished professional and mother of 2 wonderful daughters. This is her story. Lannah says: To acknowledge anyone for the writing of this book is something I am unsure about. I don't really know who to acknowledge, or, indeed, if anyone should be. It's not exactly a pleasant book but I hope readers might realize that if they have been bullied, or still are, or just attended boarding school and have unpleasant memories - they are not alone.

A Prairie Cookbook: Memories and Recipes by Philip Wik (A Blue Kitten Book) 4.1 Stars (98 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

A Prairie Cookbook has recipes that were used to satisfy the hunger of pioneering families in the Midwestern United States. I must frame your expectations before you read this book. These aren't Old Country recipes. They're recipes from the Midwest from the turn of the last century. You'll find better recipes on how to make ox-tail soup, for example, on the internet and from other books, complete with full-spread glossy color illustrations. If you read this book for culinary how-to instructions or the art of gourmet, you'll be missing the point. Rather, my goal is to open a window into a vanishing world through the doorway of taste. This book provides another dimension to understanding the lives of our ancestors. These recipes are as simple and as unpolished as those who worked the land. And yet they invoke an atmosphere that other histories may not fully capture. They become a kind of a time portal into the past. Crushed tomato leaves are an example for me. Their smell magically transports me back to my grandmother's tomato garden when I was five years old. For you, it might be the smell of a holiday dinner or freshly baked cookies. Despite the hardships they faced, the people of the plains had high aspirations and ideals. In 1918, my grandmother Emma's husband Nicholas died during the Spanish flu pandemic that raged at the time. And yet she saw all eleven of her children go to college before and during the Great Depression. These memoirs help provide the context in which these meals were lovingly prepared, for children, grandparents, and field hands, and for holidays, weddings, funerals, and for daily life. Both these recipes and the memoirs give us a glimpse of an important time in the history of our nation and give us insight into the simple but strong character of the homesteaders of the Midwest. In search of his family history, Brian Borgford travelled to Iceland to seek the origins of his ancestors. In his two-week trip Brian visited all the places described in his grandfather's memoir written over seventy years earlier. The magical sights in Iceland provided a link from days of Pagan worship to the days of mass migration from the harsh environment. Modern day Icelanders show a strong reverence for their history and culture. Icelandic Sagas still shape the thinking of the island's three hundred thousand residents.

Donut Hole: A Marine’s Real-Life Battles in Vietnam During 1967 and 68 Marines, 1st Force Logistical Command Clutch Platoon by R.C. Lebeau 4.2 Stars (419 Reviews)    Price verified 2 minutes ago

This Book is in Color... Pocket Size book. This book does not explore the religious aspects of war. Your very belief is tested in combat, you must kill your enemy, or your enemy will kill you - that is the simple, hard cold fact. Because in my humble opinion, War is hell on Earth. Evil roams freely in War, and it will kill you, one way or another, with its evil intent. Nightmares are common and, in their fantasy, never reflect the real horror and the reality that War can bring to your mind. No matter what your personal spiritual beliefs are, you will be tested. The conduct of your intent will be your judge for life. It is your second guessing that can be dangerous to you. A wise Philosopher once said in Greece, "If you want real peace, you must always prepare for War." This book is about war. It tells my experiences of the paths I took as a United States Marine in Vietnam. The mouths of many soldiers will say the same - the same soldiers who had shared my paths with the experiences of my many paths in life. I have not shared these words or reflections with anyone, except in bits and pieces, and that too, with other veterans in the form of bunker talk.

Lost World of the Himalayas, The Journals of Explorer M.G. Hawking by M.G. Hawking 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 12 hours ago

Composed from the journals of explorer M.G. Hawking's five years in remote areas of the Himalayas, this book transports the reader into a legendary lost world, a journey that leads to the discovery of the most refined and powerful knowledge possessed by the human race. Many years ago, on an extended trek into an inner region of the vast wilderness of the Great Himalayan Range, Hawking chanced on an unexpected find. In a majestic valley surrounded by towering ice peaks, he encountered a beautiful small village. In that community, called Siddhalaya by its residents, he had the privilege of meeting a number of truly extraordinary men and women. This encounter marked the beginning of sixty-two months Hawking spent in the Himalayan regions of Nepal and Tibet, during which time he kept detailed records of his adventures, experiences, and conversations with those highly enlightened individuals. Over the past several years the team at Wisdom Masters Press, in association with Hawking, has worked diligently to compose a series of books based on his journals and field notes. This was a daunting assignment; Hawking had accumulated hundreds of pages of hand-written journal entries and field notes, all of which had to be sorted and cataloged. Yet it was a fascinating if formidable task, one that could not have been accomplished without the assistance and encouragement of some of the extraordinary individuals Hawking met in the Himalayas, all of whom you will meet in the pages of our books. From the Author: "The knowledge of the masters is profound and powerful, and one hopes it will have relevance to others, will offer them insight and guidance, will greatly expand their knowledge and power, will be validated by their experience, or, at the very least, will stimulate them to search further on their own. The philosophy expressed by the masters reflects as well the broader context and search of our culture at this particular stage of its development. The evolutionary ...

Mike Tyson: The Boxing Legend Revealed by Cha Bowman 3.5 Stars (14 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

Who is Mike Tyson? Love him or hate him, Mike Tyson is a legend. He propelled boxing to new heights during his reign as the heavy weight champ in the 1980's and early 1990's. Along with courting success inside the ring however, he courted just as much controversy outside of it. He was born into a poor family in one of the roughest sections of the Bronx, to an unstable mother and increasingly uncertain conditions. Mike Tyson was seemingly dealt a bad hand from the very beginning, and due to his short stature and his high pitched voice, he was the constant target of bullies. It was all the bullies, and other demons in his life that led Tyson to box. He then rose up through the boxing ranks like the ultimate gladiator, until he made it clear that this former target of bullies was not going to be bullied anymore! But like some tragic hero from antiquity, Tyson often proved to be his own Achilles heel, and his out of control behavior would be his own downfall. Sure, he was troubled. But he was also one of a kind. So much so, that we just keep right on asking the question; who is Mike Tyson?
