ReejecttIIon - a number two by Daniel Clausen 3.9 Stars (23 Reviews)    Price verified 10 hours ago

By reading ReejecttIIon, it's likely you'll discover: colorful short stories, funny flash fiction, hilarious cartoons, riveting reviews, wondrous anagrams and other assorted skits and titbits of under-achieving literary genius. If you're lucky, you might come across sci-fi tales about the privatization of words, horror stories about hair and ruminations on indie writing. It's also possible that you'll find commentary on the hazards of greedy literary agents and stories about washed up movie directors who receive financial backing from space aliens. Publisher's Meekly calls it: "a thought-provoking fable about technological hubris and the hazards of bioengineering." (*This may or may not be referring to Jurassic Park and not ReejecttIIon.) Reader's Indigestion says: "this book quietly stands as one of the most powerful statements of the Civil Rights movement." (*This may or may not actually refer to To Kill a Mockingbird and not ReejecttIIon.) But why not read this seriously comical scattergun book and see what you can discover about ReejecttIIon for yourself?

The Secret of Linden Court by Thomas Stimson 4.2 Stars (17 Reviews)    Price verified 10 minutes ago

How far would you go to keep a secret? In a quaint European city so old that Roman coins are still unearthed in the back gardens of trim little houses, the single, thirty-seven-year-old junior file clerk of the City Tax Department thought he knew every street, lane, boulevard, alley, thoroughfare, highway and byway within the city limits... until now. Stuck in the back corner of an ancient file cabinet, Andre Kosowicz finds an old, faded street record and discovers evidence of a neighborhood he has never heard of: Linden Court. With no taxes paid by residents since before the Nazi invasion, he believes Linden Court has long since been paved over or bombed out of existence. To satisfy his curiosity, Andre heads to Olde Towne where, with a little snooping a lot of luck, he finds a bustling cul-de-sac of homes and shops in the shadow of an ancient linden tree. Rather than reporting his discovery to the city for recognition and rewards, Andre befriends a variety of colorful Linden Court residents as diverse as Madame Ra'Coone and her House of Fashion, gay gallery owner and art historian Szymon, the neighborhood's barkeep Franz, a former member of the Resistance known as The Alley Sniper and his hot-to-trot niece Sophie. How long can Andre keep his discovery a secret from the tax department, his bitter boss and the aloof college graduate who has suddenly taken a liking to him? And how has Linden Court been able to hide in plain sight for over twenty years? This Kafkaesque mystery set in 1960's Eastern Europe blends Woody Allen's romantic nostalgia with Coen Brothers hilarious plot twists to keep you guessing until the very end. Added Short Story Bonus! Glen Watkins, a retired American with a tragic past, rents a room in Stroud, England, to hike and explore the hilly, picturesque countryside. Stroud teens Darren and Ian find a loaded shotgun and decide to play at hunting while the townsfolk are at home watching the royal wedding on the telly. When Glen does not ...

100 Headachingly Hard Mate in Two Chess Puzzles Composed by Sam Loyd: Improve Your Ability to Calculate Variations and Finding Checkmate by Martin B. Justesen 4.5 Stars (69 Reviews)    Price verified 12 hours ago

This book might cause a headache! Warning! The book contains 100 really hard mate-in-two puzzles by one of the best chess composers to have lived. You might get severely challenged while solving these puzzles. About Sam Loyd Sam Loyd was born January 30, 1841, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S., and died April 10, 1911, in New York. He is probably one of the greatest American puzzle creators ever. Not only did he create amazing chess puzzles, but Sam Loyd also made puzzle games and math puzzles. Loyd studied engineering and took a license as a steam and mechanical engineer, but he managed to create a career out of creating puzzles. When Loyd was 14 years old, he started creating his first chess problems. As a 19-year-old he was problem editor for the magazine Chess Monthly, edited by no other than Paul Morphy. As a chess player, he peaked at no. 15 in the world around 1868-1869. It must therefore be clear that you are up against an excellent puzzle-master when you are going to solve the 100 mate in two problems in this book all composed by Sam Loyd. Loyd said the following about the art of making mate-in-two-problems: "I have often expressed the opinion that it is no easy task to compose a good two-move problem. It should have a decided point, a well-defined theme with a sparkle to it; and the difficulty should consist in the surprise of the trick, and not in the mere trouble of selecting the correct key-move." You might ask why I should solve mate in two puzzles? Former world no. 3 and renown chess trainer, Arthur Yusupov, writes in his book Boost Your Chess that mate-in-two-puzzles "..are very useful for training in the calculation of variations. One is often foced to take into account a lot of candidate moves in order to reach the solution. It is very important to consider all possible replies for your opponent. This develops your skill in calculating short variations." I hope this short intro will keep you motivated to solve these challenging chess ...
