The Holler by Thomas Bell 4.9 Stars (13 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

The Holler is an immersive novel that grabs you from the very first page and doesn't let go. Set in the eerie and atmospheric backdrop of rural Kentucky, this story intricately weaves elements of folklore, family bonds, and the supernatural, creating a rich tapestry that is both haunting and heartwarming. The protagonist's journey is compelling and relatable. The twin brothers, whose close bond is tested by the mysterious and ominous Holler, are well-developed characters who evoke a deep sense of empathy. Their adventures, misadventures, and ultimate quest for truth are thrilling and emotionally charged, making the reader feel like a part of their journey. Bell's portrayal of the rural Kentucky setting is nothing short of masterful. His descriptions are vivid and evocative, bringing to life the foggy, mysterious landscapes and the tight-knit, if somewhat insular, communities that populate them. The Holler itself is a character in its own right, shrouded in mystery and menace, with a palpable presence that looms over the narrative. The dialogue in "The Holler" is particularly noteworthy. Bell has a keen ear for the regional dialect, and his characters speak in a way that feels authentic and true to their roots. This not only adds to the realism of the story but also immerses the reader in the world he has created. The conversations between the characters are natural and flow seamlessly, providing insight into their personalities and relationships. One of the standout aspects of the novel is its exploration of folklore and the supernatural. Bell skillfully blends these elements with the everyday lives of his characters, creating a sense of wonder and dread. Who's Killing the Fountain of Youth?: (Old Guys Murder Mystery #2) by Jon Spoelstra 4.3 Stars (387 Reviews)    Price verified 7 hours ago

Why kill the fittest old folks? That's the first question late-blooming amateur sleuths and retirees Charlie North and Ben Tucker need to answer. Here's Question #2. Are Charlie and Ben prime targets to be killed? The answer is yes, of course. And here's Question #3. Would a Cougar be interested in a 70ish-year-old guy? It seems like a totally outrageous question when we're talking murder, but SPOILER ALERT, the answer is yes.) Charlie and Ben team up again with the stunning P.I. Reggie Parker, the daughter of a retired LAPD buddy. Their job? Stop the murders at the most wildly upscale -- and mysterious -- retirement village, Elysian Meadowlands. The retirees in the village are far more vibrant than their ages would allow. Some are alluring Cougars. Some are way more sinister than Charley and Ben would like. The murders continue, and it looks like there's more coming. Catching the killer will keep you guessing to the end, and then you'll wonder about the secrets of Elysian Meadowlands long after you've finished the book. If you're of age, you'll love this story because the author is a real-life old guy who certainly knows the aches of being old but also the joy and the humor of it all. This is a fast read. Old guys like things fast. WARNING: Don't buy this book if you feel uncomfortable laughing out loud every so often. If you're looking for a gritty crime thriller, this is NOT that type of book. Seriously, laughing is good. Get it now. What readers say ***** "I so enjoy these characters, they are smart, funny and they take a murder mystery to a new level. I really enjoy the way this writer writes, there is wisdom there." ***** "The characters are guys you'd want to be friends with." ***** "I'm in love with one of the old guys. I'm not telling which." This is the second in the series of Old Guys Murder Mystery series.

11 Mind Boggling Shorts by Leonard Treman 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified one hour ago

It was a perfect day for a mime convention. Each of the mimes had come to compete and prove who was the best. It was to be a awesome spectacle. At least, until the body of a dead clown was found. Investigators swarmed the convention after the body was found by an observer of the mimes. Unfortunately, no witnesses stepped forward and none of the mimes were talking. Investigator Michel Cons had this to say, "It's sick what the murderer has done, but what's more sick is the lack of stepping forward of witnesses to an obviously blatantly visual crime. We've already put at least 5 mimes away for obstruction of justice and will be sure to keep at it until they realize, a glass box won't protect you from Bubba when you are behind iron bars."
