Wings of Grace (Kiwi Land Girls Book 1) by Tania Roberts (Red Rose Publishing) 3.4 Stars (9 Reviews)    Price verified 10 hours ago

Learning about life the hard way By 1941 World War II has left New Zealand farms bereft of young men. Whipsnade Farm, home of the McKnight family becomes a training farm for several young women who leave the city to volunteer as land girls. Grace is 22, and freshly arrived on a country farm down in Canterbury as a Land Girl, helping fill the shortage of manual labor during the war. Arriving with her best friend Betsy, who is newly engaged and fretting about her fiancé Roland, but terribly attracted to the son of the farm manager, she takes all of Graces patience and care to ensure that she doesn't end up making some challenging life decisions to regret later. Meanwhile, Moira is sassy, ready for anything, and seemingly hell bent on finding a man to indulge her fancies and learns through some hard lessons about real rural life, and whether she's really cut out for being the wife of a farmer. They discover Ben, a recent army recruit who is AWOL and hiding from soldiers determined to seek him out and return him to his ranks, or maybe shoot him for desertion - either one being an equally terrifying prospect. They are joined at Whipsnade, by the diminutive Alice who sees no option but to sign up. She is sweet, shy but fiercely protective of a secret she doesn't wish to share with the others. A life spent milking cows, cleaning out pig pens, and butchering sheep was not something any of these young woman had planned for themselves, but they did sign up for it, and determined to make the best of it for as long as they feel the war effort needs them. Chaos, mystery, love, heartbreak notwithstanding, these girls are growing up hard and fast. Can Grace keep everyone safe under wings? Even the escaped soldier?

Out of the Rough: 'The McComas Trilogy' - Book 2 by Lee Carey (Sandfiddler Publishing) 4.5 Stars (21 Reviews)    Price verified 15 hours ago

Keith DeLong and polio-stricken best friend, Flea, overcame individual hurdles in the first novel, 'If Bullfrogs Had Wings'. This sequel is set two years later and contains more events of striving against the odds to get 'Out of the Rough'. Family, friendship, and mountain-grown determination bring one individual out of the darkness to grasp the rainbow of his dreams. Keith's life is smashed by a series of terrible trials out of his control. watches his dreams smashed by a series of events, out of his control. This historical novel shows the life of an eighteen-year-old dealing with harsh realities and making tough choices for his family. Obstacles ranging from loss, fear, abandoning dreams, and a dance with death are much more than Keith ever imagined. Life deals the cards - Keith plays them. With mountain-grown determination, he overcomes and reaches his dream. This is fully realized as he and Flea walk side-by-side on the green grass of victory. This trilogy is my personal favorites out of my ten novels. The final book in 'The McComas Trilogy' is 'A Golden Round'. "Thank you for sharing your time to read my work. I'd sure appreciate an honest review on Amazon. Keep smilin'... " Review by YA author Larry Webb: Just finished "If Bullfrogs Had Wings" and "Out of the Rough" by Lee Carey. Both are great books, but I think I enjoyed "Out of the Rough" the best. To obtain the best effect, read them back to back in order. Lee crammed a lot into these two books--life lessons, priorities, working through adversity, and more. He emphasizes the fact that the words, "I" and "Me" are the two smallest words in the English lexicon. Words like family, friendship, love, devotion, and courage are among the largest. Once you've convinced yourself that no more disasters could possibly happen, one does. I challenge any "normal" person to read through the two-book series and stay dry-eyed. In the verbiage of the Flea, "It ain't gonna happen."

Readers of After Dunkirk & Beneath a Scarlet Sky agree, Jubilee is an explosive World War II tale that weaves a story high over the skies of France and England and down on the beaches of Normandy. An Amazon Charts International bestseller If you enjoy Nelson DeMille, Ken Follett, John Grisham or Dan Brown then you will love Ido Graf! This suspense novel recounts a political conspiracy to subvert the democratic process and National Security in the USA and the West by far-right groups and a serving President. But why?' It has a basis in fact. • "If ever a novel was ready to be made into a feature film it is this one - action, thrills, mystery, historical intrigue and romance, it has all the ingredients for the big screen. (See Glass)... grabs you from the very start as its clever prologue leads into 400 pages of rip-roaring adventure, the mostly short chapters - think James Patterson - meaning you often read for that little bit longer before turning out the bedroom light as you're gripped by the action. Our hero is a swashbuckling James Bond meets John Wick, our heroine a Lily James-type gorgeous damsel in distress and the story romps along at 100-miles-an-hour." Jeremy Ransome, Editor, Spalding Guardian, UK A former Legionnaire had been working as a journalist in Paris. He met a mysterious American by chance when the latter sailed into a quiet fishing village nestled in a remote Andalusian bay. The sailor was ex-special forces and his background, part Jewish, Hispanic and Polish, had dictated his path in life. The yachtsman was also a former Legionnaire and he explained that he had been working in private security. Uncovering a secret - he told a story that at first seemed to be fictitious. • "Great story!" & "The author himself has had a very interesting life, which makes this book even more believable. He's an excellent writer and tells a very interesting and descriptive story. It's very Dan Brown and Tom Clancy-ish... I think it's fiction, but makes you wonder... " Darcey Spensley, Monticello Express, USA However, the journalist began to question what he had been told. The violent deaths of an elderly Swiss gentleman and two of his gamekeepers in a ...

Are You Positive? by Stephen Davis (L&G Productions LLC) 3.7 Stars (120 Reviews)    Price verified 9 hours ago

Ripped from the headlines of today's news, "Are You Positive?" is a fictitious courtroom drama in the style of John Grisham. 26-year-old Tyree Johnson stands accused of first degree murder in a prominent South Carolina courtroom. But his murder weapon is not a gun or a knife; in fact, there was no violent crime at all. His "victim," Beth Ann Brooks, dated Tyree for a few months, and they made love more than once. However, Tyree Johnson had been diagnosed HIV-Positive, and the prosecution claims that Beth Ann Brooks was infected with HIV by Tyree and died some months later. The defense, however, claims there is reasonable doubt that Tyree's HIV diagnosis was wrong - that, according to numerous scientific studies, the so-called "HIV tests" are fraught with errors, and have been ever since their inventor, Dr. Robert Gallo, lied on his patent application. Furthermore, Tyree's lawyer argues that there is no scientific evidence that HIV is transmitted by heterosexual intercourse, and that Tyree's girlfriend died from taking lethal anti-retroviral drugs rather than from any HIV/AIDS-related illness. Based on more than 500 actual scientific studies and references, the author claims that every word of sworn testimony is true and verifiable. "Are You Positive?" raises serious questions about whether anyone has ever been properly diagnosed as HIV-Positive, and whether most AIDS victims are dying from the side-effects of the HIV medications prescribed by their doctors - all in a spell-binding novel. You be the judge.
