Victory Dance: A Difficult Childhood by Ann Washington 4.7 Stars (11 Reviews)    Price verified 12 hours ago

I am not a writer. I wrote this story as a tool for healing many years ago and have recently retrieved it as I feel it tells a story worth telling and records a unique history of Southern segregation. Please understand that I have made no effort to be historically accurate. Accuracy is impossible when you rely on highly charged, emotional nightmares. As an adult I asked my dad, and he said he didn't believe he hurt me. It's kind of lame but okay. My mom just "So what if you hurt so the hell did I" . I wasn't sure how to take that. I am writing about a time before the Federal Child Abuse Prevention Act of 1974. Segregation was the law of the land, not equal but separate, with colored people getting used and abused. A lot of what I write was directly experienced, but a lot is also what I was told. I have done a lot of reading about that time and what I experienced and was told by my elders is consistent with what is recorded by historians.
