Pedaling Through Paradise: A Cycling Journey to the Rockies by P. Francia 3.7 Stars (39 Reviews)    Price verified 7 hours ago

When a young man left his years of naval service behind him he yearned for something different. A challenge, of course, but something where he could be at one with nature, find his own space in his own company but also enjoy the friendship of others when the opportunity arose. So began an epic trip by bicycle through some of the most stunning scenery the United States has to offer, crossing mountains and rivers in a quest to reach the one place of beauty he always wanted to return to. From Ohio to the Rocky Mountains, the road was often hard but never dull and the kindness of strangers was always in abundance. Venison steaks provided by campers at a lake, romantic encounters with beautiful women, offers of accommodation when the weather took a turn for the worse and meeting other wanderers on the route, all made for a journey that was as varied as the roads traveled. A travel journal like few before it, Pedaling Through Paradise is a book that touches the soul with the warmth of the human spirit and leaves a lasting impression on the mind.

Against the Boards: A slow burn, fake dating, fade-to-black hockey romance (Canadian Played) by Cynthia Gunderson (Amazon Digital Services) 4.3 Stars (96 Reviews)    Price verified 18 minutes ago

As seen on TikTok! People say opposites attract, but now I have proof. There's zero rationale for why I would fall for Tyler Bowen. I mean, he's the star winger of my brother's hockey team and yet is better known for his moves off the ice. His playboy reputation is a huge red flag. Though that was exactly why I asked him to kiss me. In front of my overprotective brother. As a joke. Oh, did I forget to mention that wanting Tyler was supposed to be a prank? I didn't plan on liking that kiss. I didn't anticipate Tyler's dad finding out, or that he'd offer me the job of a lifetime. I suppose it doesn't matter that we're working together and playing a part for my new employer. Tyler's made it crystal clear he's not into serious relationships, even though the sparks flying from our fake touches might just be intense enough to melt the ice. I don't chase after players, and I'm not about to start now. All I need to do is finish the job and skate free because having Tyler close is enough to make me forget why the two of us could never happen... Against the Boards is a slow-burn, closed-door hockey romcom. Audiobook narrated by the author.

Conditioning the Gaited Horse* for Endurance: *and Other Horses , Too! by Nancy Morgan Reed 3.8 Stars (16 Reviews)    Price verified 16 hours ago

Conditioning the Gaited Horse for endurance: Morgans 3rd book of horses, this one specifically geared for conditioning a gaited horse to success in endurance competition, with a narration of conditioning rides on 5 different gaited horses, and graphs for you to print and make your own conditioning graph for your endurance prospect.. The gaited breeds are gaining in popularity in the sport of endurance, largely due to their special middle gait which is smoother than most other, non-gaited horses, whose middle gait is a trot. One quarter of all members of AERC are over the age of 50, and the smoothness of the gaited horses is becoming more and ever more attractive. But it is admitted that conditioning of the gaited horse for endurance is a little different and perhaps more challenging than it is for the other, more popular breed of horse used in endurance. And so people are starting to ask questions and are looking for answers and guidelines for any special needs for conditioning the gaited horse for endurance competition. I outline in the workbook some exercises that will increase 2 fold the fitness of your horse. In diagrams I show the differences between a fit horse, and one that is not ready for competition and how to tell where your horses level of fitness lay. And the final graph shows with scientific certainty that the conditioning ride improves heart rate and recoveries. The work will be all worth it in the end. These intelligent animals become the best of friends and give it their all when confronted with difficult tasks, and when their bones harden and their grow strong and their hearts and lungs work to improve efficiency, the reward is great and one very worth the hard work. And there may be few people more equipped to deal with these questions than the author, who has been riding horses for almost 50 years, and who has ridden, trained, and bred Tennessee Walking Horses during most of her life, and who has completed endurance rides for the last 12 years ...

Rise: A Collection Inspired by Lift by Rebecca K. O'Connor 4.2 Stars (22 Reviews)    Price verified 13 hours ago

In celebration of the Kindle version release of LIFT, an award-winning falconry memoir, author Rebecca K. O'Connor shares a complementary collection of essays, short stories and poetry that further examines life in the shadow of a raptor's wings. LIFT, Rebecca K. O'Connor's arresting memoir of love, loss, relationships and one impossible peregrine falcon is further illuminated with this collection of writings on the world of falconry. The opening short story, "A Good Falconer Lets Go," about a teenage boy and his red-tailed hawk is a classic coming-of-age tale with a falconry twist. If you are a dog lover, "Heart to Tear" and "About a Dog", essays which read like O'Connor's love songs to the dogs of falconry will resonate with you, if not evoke a few tears. In short essays such as "The Knife" and "Storytelling" O'Connor explores early moments in falconry in the icy-clear voice readers grew to love in LIFT. The collection also includes a glossary on falconry and a bonus excerpt of her novel in progress, a post-apocalyptic wilderness adventure. If you have read LIFT and loved it, this short collection will add to your experience. If you've yet to read O'Connor's writing, RISE may encourage you to read more. ~~Praise for LIFT~~ **Novelist and nature reference author O'Connor (Falcon's Return) crafts a lyrical tribute to the spiritual connection between humans and birds in this memoir of the excruciating, transformative process of training a peregrine falcon: "Falconry is a religion, a way of thinking, a means of experiencing life." Indeed, readers will find almost as much spiritual content as natural. Despite O'Connor's icy-clear voice, her descriptions of training a young male falcon are fascinating for bird lovers and civilians alike: "when the falcon connects a high-speed dive... the duck remains a piece of the sky and only its body careens to earth." Surprisingly, periodic flashbacks to a troubled childhood -- an abusive stepfather, an absentee mother -- ...
