Things have been strange in the small town of Garrett, Ontario. Things have been way stranger underneath it. Garrett is the kind of town where people know each other. Everyone knows the police chief is a good guy. Everyone knows the lady at the grocery store is extra helpful. Everyone has the local principal on speed dial. And everyone knows Scotty Waymore is a little bit of a nut. He hears voices -- or the Voice, as he calls it. And he believes the Voice is telling him something important. Something so important he won't be medicated even if his wife leaves him and his daughter avoids him. When grisly murders and bad accidents begin to happen in Garrett and he sees people who died walking around, Scotty wonders whether to talk about it and be thought completely insane -- until suspicious newcomers become uncommonly interested in what he has to say. And until the owner of the Voice shows up to turn Scotty's world upside down. Literally. Because it's not what happens on the surface that matters; it's what has been going on beneath it for decades: a top-secret government project involving captured aliens with dangerous powers. One of them has made its escape, and government agents are desperately hunting it. Except that the villains and heroes are not necessarily who one might think... Scotty Waymore knows that; and he needs others to know before it's too late.

Teddy Roosevelt's Goblin: A Bigfoot Story by Joe IDAHO (Kopiisto Publishing LLC) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 10 hours ago

Previously published as "Teddy Roosevelt's Goblin" by Samuel Smith. TEDDY ROOSEVELT and his hunting companions battle a creature unlike anything they've encountered. The year is 1888. Teddy Roosevelt is twenty-nine, vigorous, and an avid hunter. Donning buckskins and carrying a repeating rifle, he's tracked and killed nearly every big game species in the continental United States. Now, he's after caribou. They say the last herd roams the high meadows of the Idaho Territory's Selkurk Mountains. Determined to fulfill his lifelong dream, Roosevelt organizes a hunting party and travels deep into the unforgiving wilderness. The game is plentiful, and the caribou are close. It's the perfect hunt until strange things start happening. A series of loud knocking sounds echo through the night. In the morning, a gravely injured mule stumbles into camp, followed by three distraught miners. The terrified miners tell of a giant beast capable of ripping men and mules to shreds. It's killed four of their friends and six mules. And it's still out there hunting them. Old Bauman, the grizzled, weather-beaten, former mountain man now serving as camp cook, has seen this before. Years ago, one of these beasts killed his trapping partner and scared Old Bauman from the mountains. He calls it a Goblin. Intrigued by the old man's story, Roosevelt has to investigate for himself. He will not be kept from the caribou by superstition or fear. Roosevelt is a civilized man, a practical and modern sporting man. There is nothing in the forest he cannot kill with his guns. But things aren't what they seem. This isn't your typical Bigfoot story. In a desperate final confrontation, Teddy Roosevelt's goblin will be revealed. If you're a fan of suspenseful stories that blend history and adventure with folklore and myth, then you won't want to miss this riveting novel.

The Wanderings of Joramm (Chronicles of Madarre Book 2) by Stuart J. Whitmore (Crenel Books) 4.8 Stars (6 Reviews)    Price verified 10 hours ago

How can a young wizard find his way in life without guidance? Joramm's troubles did not end after Kreltahk's defeat at Riyahm. The older wizards who fought and died by his side left him with tremendous power, but they had no time to share the knowledge and wisdom he would need to use it effectively. Joramm seeks answers as he wanders alone in the ruined kingdom. He seeks hope for his future. Most of all, he seeks peace. All of these things evade him. With rumors flying that the king died in Kreltahk's final attack on the kingdom, local lords see an opportunity for conquest. Lord Jilarke is eager to make Konag the new seat of power. Unlike the king and queen in Madarre, who had shown their distrust in wizards even before Kreltahk fell in battle, Lord Jilarke welcomes the use of magic to crush his enemies and become the new king. As the threat of new war rises, Joramm must decide his path. He can flee and possibly never find the answers he seeks. Or he can stay, fight to protect the kingdom, and possibly never find the peace he seeks. Once again, the fate of the kingdom may rest in the hands of a boy from a remote fishing village.

A Nameless Curse: Book One of the Realms Curse Duology by G.W. Prouse (ProuseBooks) 4.5 Stars (25 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

Felicity is a weapon trained to expose secrets, slit throats, and weaken realms. A fae orphan raised among humans, she's loyal to the guild who trained her. She needs to complete one final mission to be inducted among those who call themselves Master Spy. Ordered to uncover the rebel informants within the king's court, she finds herself amidst the gossip acting as the rakish prince's latest conquest. When her guild returns memories she hadn't known they'd stolen, she questions her reality. But there are more interesting whispers of a dark curse that blurred identities and truths -- and hints that the royal family may be the cause. Forced to question who the real traitors are, she must choose where her loyalty lies. Felicity could align with the prince, who equally frustrates and entices her more than she cares to admit, ignore the king's cruelty, and claim the title she's long coveted. Or damn it all and ally with the ward, a possible rebel who won't, or can't, speak of his past. If she trusts him, then they'll dismantle the kingdom from the inside... and save the continent in the process. Every weapon has a weakness. It's not just her neck on the line -- it's her heart. A Nameless Curse will appeal to fans of Danielle L. Jensen's Bridge Kingdom, Hannah Whitten's For the Wolf, and sweeping Fae worlds. It features a slow-burn romance, only one bed, found family, and other beloved tropes. It's book one of the Realms Curse Duology with the conclusion coming in Spring 2024.

Lya I run. It's just who I am. Whenever things get tough, I bail. Every new situation I find myself in, I have an exit strategy. Because I know what could happen if I don't. Things are about to get bad, and I don't understand how or why. I'm in a new place, with no pre-existing connections. I've developed a life for myself where no one could suspect a thing out of the ordinary. I fit in - or at least try to. But here I am, ready to run. Let's just hope I do so in time. *** Oliver I didn't ask to be in these shoes. In fact, I was thoroughly looking forward to a life of little more than personal responsibility. I never saw my future tied to this place, no matter how much it is a part of me. The responsibility was thrust upon me, and with no one else left to step up, I had no choice. These are my people - my family - and this is my home. I couldn't turn my back, even if I wanted to. That's a type of betrayal I would never be able to stomach. Any semblance of my plans years ago have fallen by the wayside, but that's just the nature of the beast - and I am the beast. Times are changing. I can feel it in my bones. I just hope we are ready, and I am capable of protecting those that are relying on me.

The Forge... It's not a place that gives anyone the warm and fuzzies. No, The Forge is a dungeon mine that used to be home to the Deep Mountain Clan of dwarves. Then the orcs took control of it and forced the dwarves out. Now it's a death sentence to any who try to voyage into its dark depths. That's where I come in. No, I'm not some sort of soldier or mercenary trying to set things right. I'm a thief. And I've plundered many dungeons -- enough to have earned a reputation for myself. I'm good at what I do and that's the exact reason why I've been hired by holy knight, Cade, to take him into the bowels of The Forge. Cade was entrusted by his higher-up to retrieve a holy scroll, located in the belly of The Forge. The only problem (aside from the territorial orcs, the nightmarish beasts that roam the tunnels and shafts, and the fact that no one has ever reached the final level of The Forge) is... My ex-boyfriend, Aram. Right. So, this isn't one of my prouder moments, but a long time ago, Aram and I were together. Then I stole something precious from him and he's been after me ever since. Well, you know what they say about karma... My karma finally caught up to me when Aram staged a setup and I fell for the bait. Imagine Aram's irritation when he finally gets the chance to arrest me, but then Cade shows up with this quest. Even though Aram is a Justiciar, an enforcer of the law, Cade's rank trumps Aram's which means Cade's word goes. And Cade wants me to lead this expedition. As I see it, I have two choices: rot inside a jail cell for the rest of my life or take my chances in The Forge, with the potential to earn my freedom. I choose The Forge. The Second Sun: Volumes I & II by Kristof Morrow 4.5 Stars (30 Reviews)    Price verified one hour ago

The plot of The Second Sun is an allegory for the financial inequality between the older and younger generations. There's an island paradise where there's elders living a second life after retiring from their human forms, and live amongst their chosen few, who also live for thousands of years in relative peace. However, only those welcome can actually approach the island and survive. Everyone else on earth is made to endure a game of thrones type world, except I omitted much of the overt cruelty you find in that series. I also forgo the notions of racism and sexism. l wanted to adopt the spirit of Tolkien, but expand that virtue of "anyone, no matter how small, can achieve great things," to every kind of human so it feels to be an adventure for everyone! I was diagnosed with Tourette's when I was 27, and so it's developed my understanding of the theft of agency and being marginalized for something I cannot control. It's also structured similarly to game of thrones, in that the first three chapters are different parts of the world with different characters, and you learn how they are related as the story progresses. The Second Sun is, above all things, an adventure made animate by hundreds of distinct characters across half a world, written to confess through prose and tale our tendencies poisoned by Dickensian bleakness, and to wholly ameliorate that cynicism by the light and courage of those who live and labor for a just peace.

Asareer's belief solidifies, and divine anecdotes about Krishna continue to enthral him. While the chasm between the viewpoints of both friends keeps widening, Krishna attains a God-like stature and comes to be feared by his opponents and revered by his devotees and sages alike. The Sapphire Sea: A Matt Ransom Mystery by Bobby Underwood 4.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 6 hours ago

With its sexy mix of thrilling action and tangible sensuality, and a willingness to tackle subjects such as abuse and incest, suicide and faith within an entertaining sci-fi/mystery series often focused on global conspiracies in a world devoid of real love, The Sapphire Sea might just be the finest and most entertaining entry yet in the Matt Ransom canon. Big and sprawling -- there are over thirty pivotal and recurring characters -- yet almost uncomfortably intimate at times, the world of Matt Ransom is both intoxicating and addictive. By the seventh entry the world of Matt Ransom had moved from a dystopian Earth to one nearly fully recovered. In the previous entry, A Matt Ransom Christmas, readers were treated to intrigue as well as an ode to that most cherished of holidays. A startling story-line began to emerge that promised to rock this world to its foundations. That promise is fulfilled in The Sapphire Sea, a morally and sensually complex tearing down of everything readers thought they understood about this world. The Sapphire Sea remains true to all the intricate story-lines which preceded it, not to mention those all-important relationships, yet takes this most unique series in new and fresh directions. A Matt Ransom entry with one poignant moment after another, more achingly sensual encounters than can be counted, and a thrilling revenge and conspiracy story which moves like lightning despite being interwoven with the moral quandary Matt finds himself facing. The Sapphire Sea is the most ambitious Matt Ransom entry to date, which is saying a great deal. Stunning and heartbreaking, this one is so shocking, readers will find themselves asking: "Did that just happen?" A lot does happens here that could not have been anticipated by readers, including some deeply moving departures of beloved characters. A tearful yet uplifting ending make this one of the most memorable entries in the entire Matt Ransom canon.

The prisoner transport ship the Dragon's Fear has sailed the seas long enough to have encountered nearly every type of danger. Massive storms, prisoner riots, vicious sea creatures, and hundreds of other struggles have all befallen the Conjury sailing vessel in its years of service. Yet Captain Brightfang's strong hand has always kept the unruly and fractious crew in line as they transport their mystically-empowered prisoners to the magic-suppressing penal colony of Tide Island. But when Kelby of Gap Mouth Bay, one of the ship's crew, makes a clandestine deal that brings what seems to be a treacherous sickness on board, the careful balance of the Dragon's Fear is quickly threatened. The tenuous bonds of the crew fray even further when a raging storm races toward them across the open ocean, and a mysterious box is discovered in the hold -- possibly holding worse danger than a simple illness. The crew of the Dragon's Fear will quickly discover which is more perilous: being trapped with a monster, or with each other... CONTENT NOTE: This series is about horrible people doing horrible things to each other. Nearly every human vice and trauma is explored in the narrative. Reader discretion is strongly advised.
