REVIEWS FOR TIMERIPPER 5.0 out of 5 stars Great story! Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2021 I'm unbelievably glad I took the chance on this book. I can't lie, I was a little nervous about reading this book at first. I'm not much of a sciencey/serious person, so I wasn't sure if it would work for me, but I'm a sucker for anything even vaguely historical. I just can't help it. Especially 1888 Whitechapel history. I was worried some of the more futuristic stuff would turn me off or be too confusing for me but I understood 99% of it. And trust me when I say that's a big deal. I've read some of McCluskey's other books, so I knew I generally enjoyed his writing style, and I wasn't disappointed at all. I loved the twist on the old theory of Jack. I was completely caught off guard by what was going on and I really can't give enough praise for this story. McCluskey's creativity and ability to really show you the story really came through. I liked the idea of a religious cult, I mean, who doesn't right? It was just crazy enough to be plausible. Overall, great story, great writing, great creativity and unique enough to stand above the rest. Well ...

Alf's already divided loyalties are stretched to the limit as his Tyneside hometown confronts a long and potentially violent strike in the face of massive job losses in shipbuilding, with his own family heavily impacted. Meanwhile, he is called upon, unofficially, to investigate two seemingly unrelated deaths from World War Two; a newspaper mogul with close ties to the British government and alleged Nazi sympathies, and a tenacious young Scotland Yard detective. Alf soon closes in on eminent dynasties still at the heart of power four decades on, including Sir Norman's own celebrated family. What will Alf uncover, and will the truth push the old friends even further apart? "... George Fairbrother skilfully brings to life an incredible period of British political history, told through an array of fascinating characters... " Oliver Crocker (Devonfire Books, The Bill Podcast) "... Another great read from George Fairbrother... " (Goodreads) "... I also liked the fact that in the parts of the story set in 1985, we saw more of the characters beyond the politics and power, and new generations of the main families emerged. I hope another volume will be forthcoming because I would love to know more about all the characters, past and future... " (BookBub)

I'm all yours: The Cooper Sisters Series by Koko Heart 4.6 Stars (56 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

Nell Vickers-Cooper. Mum. Sister. Daughter. Widow. It's not a very impressive list of accolades for a thirty year old is it? I had everything I'd ever wanted in life. A teaching career I adored. A husband I was head over heels in love with. A beautiful son, and a family I could always rely on. But sometimes the unexpected knocks you for six and you find yourself a widow, a shell of your former self and a single parent. But just as quickly as it knocks you down, life throws up opportunities too. Like giving you another chance at love with a Shakespeare loving man who just happens to be drop dead gorgeous. But I'm still trying to discover who I am again. I lost myself to 'once upon a time' before, and I don't know if I'm ready to lose myself again. William Blake. Son. Friend. One-balled survivor. After I lost a part of myself to cancer four years ago, I gave up on finding 'the one'. Until I saw her walking down the street. Then in a pub. And again at the school I worked in. She wasn't a stalker, just the universe's way of telling me Nell was who I was meant to be with. The problem? Timing. Nell doesn't know what she wants yet, and is still grieving for her husband. Am I willing to wait until she's ready to say, "I'm all yours?" Now that is the real question.

In a gripping battle for the soul of America, Red Lemmings delves deep into the moral complexities of power, justice, and the lengths one man will go to protect his country from the forces of tyranny. EL PARAÍSO ESTÁ BAJO LOS PIES DE LOS GOBIERNOS: DIRIGIENDO LAS NACIONES CON MAQASID (Spanish Edition) by Abdellatif Raji (Yaraak, LLC.) Price verified 7 hours ago

Boxes of Time: Stories by Jack Matthews 3.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 5 hours ago

Stories about messy emotions, troubled families and damaged personalities. 11th Story Collection. Over his lifetime Jack Matthews (1925-2013) wrote over 200 stories, many of which were published in literary journals. Although stories varied widely in subject and style, they often could be described as urbane, philosophical, poetic and sardonic. Stories in Boxes of Time were mostly published between 1961 and 1981; they feature characters who are troubled or unsure of themselves trying to deal with life's usual disappointments. Stylistically, these stories are polished and carefully written, but they deal with messy emotions, troubled families and damaged personalities. The characters may not be as educated or self-assured as the people in his other collections, but they still manage to figure out interesting things about themselves and the people around them. Stories from this period focus especially on the emotional stresses that separate parents from their children. This ebook contains 24 stories by Jack Matthews which have never been collected, making it the author's largest story collection. Matthews picked "Boxes of Time" as the title for this collection because each story reveals the drama of worlds long since gone but whose dreams and fears and anxieties still resonate today.

DOTIAN DREAMS: PURGE WORLD EXODUS by Lars Ray 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

Do You Want a Professional Dream, a Dystopian Fantasy, and an Unforgettable Ride? Bravely Trek Through the Tantalizing Tales of Planet D'ot. A Journey brought to you by Lars Rey. Are you bored by the "rote" novels coming your way? Bore no more. This page-turner will bring you to an escape of your own, and a new vision. Are too many of your books "forgettable"? If so, DOTIAN DREAMS is for you. "Imagine a world where love is a criminal offense. So very feared, that any sign of affection (infection as the NOV call it) meant the death penalty. With one exception, mothers of young children were given temporary exceptions. However, once the child was old enough detoxification had to occur, for both mother and child. Martha belonged to a secret organization called LERN. In the words of the NOV, she was a love-lover. Having the semi-freedom to love her son Jan was a blessing. Unfortunately, the bond created would make the Love-Deprogramming school all that much more difficult. Failing the program meant imprisonment and permanent separation of mother and child (mostly because mothers tended to kill their children after completing their extra de-programming). Either way, the torture methods were perfected to break even the strongest love-lover. All the members of LERN looked forward to the day when they could escape and create their own colony. No one really knew if and when that time would come. Even if the NOV hunters didn't catch them and execute them on the spot, then they'd surely die in the wilderness. Wild animals, lack of food, no clean water, and no medications to relieve effects of the plagues. Given these harsh conditions, even the strongest colony would implode, love-lovers or not. I don't want to spoil anything for readers who have not yet picked up this book but it looks like more is going to happen in this story. I can't wait. The author has done a very good job of creating a solid three dimensional world for the reader with characters that have depth. ...

Practical Religion: What True, Biblical Christianity Should Look Like [Updated and Annotated] by J. C. Ryle 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 4 hours ago

How much religion among many members of churches consists of nothing but church rituals! They belong to their church. They are baptized, married, buried in at the church, and preached to on Sundays by her ministers, but the great doctrines of truth have no place in their hearts and only a little influence on their lives. Is the religion of these people real Christianity? No, it is Churchianity - and nothing more! If your religion is real and has been given by the Holy Spirit, it must be in your heart. It must sway the affections. It must lead the will. It must direct the tastes. It must influence the choices and decisions. It must fill the deepest, lowest, inmost seat in your soul. Is this your Christianity? Real Christianity will cause a person to glory in Christ as the Redeemer, the Deliverer, the Priest, and the Friend - without whom he would have no hope at all. It will produce confidence in Him, love toward Him, delight in Him, and comfort in Him as the Mediator, the Food, the Light, the Life, and the Peace of the soul. This Christianity will produce in the person who has it repentance, faith, hope, love, humility, spirituality, kindness, self-denial, unselfishness, forgiveness, temperance, truthfulness, brotherly kindness, patience, and forbearance. Is this your religion? About the Author John Charles Ryle (1816-1900) graduated from Eton and Oxford and then pursued a career in politics, but due to lack of funds, he entered the clergy of the Church of England. He was a contemporary of Spurgeon, Moody, Mueller, and Taylor and read the great theologians like Wesley, Bunyan, Knox, Calvin, and Luther. These all influenced Ryle's understanding and theology. Ryle began his writing career with a tract following the Great Yarmouth suspension bridge tragedy, where more than a hundred people drowned. He gained a reputation for straightforward preaching and evangelism. He travelled, preached, and wrote more than 300 pamphlets, tracts, and books, including Expository ...

Even the Stars Deserve to Die by Ramon Miravitllas Mas 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 5 hours ago

On Earth, the cities of humanity crumbled to dust, turning into fossils. Forests burned and life went extinct. But, billions of years later, it rained one last time. The siblings were born from that rain, strange creatures of human appearance and mind. Their life on the desert of Earth has no purpose, until they discover the wick, a molecule burning around their genetic material, condemning them to death one hundred years and three months after birth. In search to find out if life is worth living, a researcher explores a cave billions of years old. The brain inside a simulacrum misses its dead father. The commander of a spaceship travels to meet a mysterious satellite in the bowels of the solar system. In this story of philosophical dimensions, the power of the word merges with the nostalgia for an irretrievable past, where fear of death coexists with the sadness of losing the parents you will never see again. A hard science fiction book dealing with topics such as molecular biology, stellar evolution and the future of Earth, combined with poetry, sculpture and the early artworks of creatures who yearn to be human.

Minimum Wage Magic (DFZ Book 1) by Rachel Aaron 4.5 Stars (2,814 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

Return to the DFZ with a new standalone series full of dragons, mages, and the deadly perils of freelance employment, now complete at three books! Making a living is hard. Making a living in a lawless city where gods are real, dragons are traffic hazards, and buildings move on their own can feel downright impossible. Good thing freelance mage Opal Yong-ae has never let little things like impossibility stop her. She's found a way to put her overpriced magical art history degree to use as a Cleaner: a contract municipal employee who empties out abandoned apartments and resells the unusual treasures she finds inside for a profit. It's not a pretty job, or a safe one--there's a reason she wears bite-proof gloves--but when you're neck-deep in debt to a very magical, very nasty individual, you can't be picky about where the money comes from. But even Opal's low standards are put to the test when the only thing of value in her latest apartment is the body of the previous tenant. Dealing with the dead isn't technically part of her job, but this mage died hiding a secret that could be worth a lot of money, and Opal's the only one who knows. With debts she can't pay due at the end of the week, this could be the big break she's been waiting for, but in a city of runaway magic where getting in over your head generally means losing it, the cost of chasing this opportunity might be more than Opal can survive. "A catchy title, a plucky protagonist and a maximum effort by the author, honestly readers can't ask for more in the urban fantasy genre."- Fantasy Book Critic "The world building is exceptional. Aaron weaves information, rules and more into the story rather than giving us large information dumps. All of which allows for a well-paced, suspenseful and addictive tale." - Caffeinated Reviewer

Frameworks for Life: A Personal Operating System for Balanced and Effective Living by Alan Huang 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

Frameworks for Life is the "user's manual for life" that the author wishes he was given. Management consultant and finance professional Alan Huang shows you how to spend your limited time, energy, and money wisely to achieve balance and health in your life. This book discusses a wide range of topics from the practical to the philosophical, including ways to improve your physical and mental health, strengthen your interpersonal relationships, and find meaning in your life. The book's wide range of topics are inspired by Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, the greatest framework for understanding our human motivations and needs (in the author's humble opinion). Each chapter provides an overview of a single topic, distilling the best contemporary thinking, then translates that knowledge into routine habits that can help you live your life more effectively, efficiently, and meaningfully. To build an understanding of each topic, the book takes a first principles approach. First, the topic is defined and a useful goal identified. Next, the topic is explained using frameworks, which are analytical tools that provide an organized holistic overview of a concept, system, or process. Based on that understanding, practical suggestions for improving one's effectiveness are shared. Table of contents: • Introduction • I. Identifying and Pursuing What's Most Important • 1. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: What Are the Components of a Good Life? • 2. Toward a Personal Operating System: How Should You Spend Your Time? • 3. Life as a Balancing Act: What Should You Prioritize? • II. Physiological Needs • 4. Sleep: Why Sleep Now, If You Can Sleep When You're Dead? • 5. Surviving Doodahville by Ashley Fontainne 4.9 Stars (15 Reviews)    Price verified 43 minutes ago

"Filled with powerful scenes and great characters! Brings the '83 Old South to vivid life. One of my all-time favorite reads! Loved it! ~ Janelle Taylor, NY Times Bestselling author "... full of surprises, twists, turns and none of them are predictable. This is a fun read with entertaining events that will have you laughing out loud and perhaps remembering your past. But the story's also a bit of history about racial injustice in the 1980's and a bit of gender bias with believable examples of unfair treatment set in the past, but still believable today. I recommend... to anyone who enjoys a laugh out loud book that can't be put down as well as one telling the story of cultural past scars." - Gail Kamer for Readers' Favorite "More than just a coming-of-age story or new adult romance, Surviving Doodahville explores family bonds, racial barriers, and just how much some are willing to sacrifice for others. The tale is full of humor, action and a touch of mystery, making it a fun romp into the past." Jeff LaFerney, award-winning author of Jumper The summer of 1983 -- the era of big debt, big hair, and big dreams. Seventeen-year-old Kassandra Lawson is a Southern California girl, enjoying the summer before her high school senior year, thinking life is great. But then tragic news arrives, sending Kee and her parents to Daltville, Arkansas, to a funeral and more news that turns all their lives upside down. An unexpected and unwanted move to the humid, bug-infested south is almost too much to deal with, but she discovers a racist, backwoods, tiny hick community more famous for her aunt's moonshine than for its progressive thinking. What's more is that everyone seems to be hiding secrets. Dangerous ones. Illegal ones. Violent ones. When her family arrives, the dominoes start falling and the intrigue and suspense build to a remarkable ending. A surprise gift, a boy, and revealed town secrets help Kee, her family, and her small community to learn, grow, and find love.
