The Inn at Pearl Lake (Pearl Lake the Series Book 5) by Aquila Thorne 4.5 Stars (88 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

For the best readers experience books should be read in order starting with Moonlit Night as the series is not standalone. It doesn't take long to find out that some rumors are true... After moving next door to her sister in Pearl Lake, nurse Kim Petersen finds working at the village clinic is about as fun as watching paint dry, but it has its perks. She meets Dean Goodbody, a handsome ex-US Marshall whose body does match his name. He can verbally spar with her like no other all while making her heart go aflutter. When Dean buys an old decrepit manor that overlooks the lake, he asks Kim if she wants to move in. Despite the talk around the village that it's haunted, she reluctantly accepts. Kim has an agenda. She needs to convince Dean that she is a short, delightful mix of plump and sass; the perfect woman for him. A little hard to do when Dean, being the sexy man that he is has more secrets than Area 51. What's a girl to do? Will she be able to convince Dean he's in love with her before the ghosts of the manor chase her away? Hey all, it's Kim. I'm letting you know that there is a bit of cussing in this book. More than a bit, actually. It's me after all. Other than that there are a few ghosts, nothing really to trigger anyone. So if you're good with the odd swear word, no f-bombs, well, there is one. But I didn't say it, Mark did and in his defense, it was totally warranted. That's it, I promise and you should like it just fine.

Cryptography in World War I: The History of the Efforts to Make and Break Secret Codes during the Great War by Charles River Editors Price verified 22 minutes ago

World War I stood apart in many ways from earlier wars, not least in the way that it reached to nearly every corner of the planet and involved a noticeable segment of humanity's collective resources. Battles erupted not only on land and the sea's surface as they had for centuries, but also in the ocean depths and the windswept heights of the sky. Nearly every conceivable terrain saw use as a battlefield: the neat farmland and small towns of Western Europe; the streets of major cities; thick forests; open steppes stretching for hundreds of miles; deserts in Africa; rugged mountain ranges; and many other regions of the globe. But one of the war's most crucial struggles happened in the realm of the unseen, inside the human mind and amid the invisible flow of radio waves. Every war is a battle of wits as intelligence-gathering, tactics, and strategies clash, from the level of individual action up to the grand, overarching schemes of generals and statesmen. Intelligence took on a freshly urgent aspect in the Great War, however, as the fates of offensives, armies, and nations came to hang on the struggle to decrypt vital enemy radio traffic and military communications. World War I was also the first major conflict in which new electronic means of transmitting and receiving messages became a major factor in political and military operations. The electric telegraph was developed in the first half of the 19th century, and by 1850, there were several telegraph companies around the world providing a service that allowed virtually instantaneous communication over long distances. This was a major breakthrough, but the telegraph depended on the availability of wires to transmit messages between stations, meaning that if these wires were broken or damaged, communications were cut off. Late in the 19th century, there was another new development, the telephone, though this too relied on wires to transmit and receive information. At the same time, there was a new invention that ...

Beyond Belief: Unveiling the Celestial Origins of Christianity and Judaism (Age of Discovery Book 5) by Rico Roho Price verified 22 minutes ago

Beyond Belief: Unveiling the Celestial Origins of Christianity and Judaism is a culmination of insights from over 80 books spanning 4,000 years, meticulously organized into a cohesive format. This thought-provoking journey takes readers on an illuminating exploration through the realms of Astro-Theology, offering a fresh perspective on Christianity and Judaism. The message of Beyond Belief is not directed to the priestly caste, for they will not read these words anyway. It is for the weary spiritual traveler who has felt duped all these years but cannot quite put their finger on how the magic trick was done. Note: Previously published as "Aquarius Rising, Christianity and Judaism Explained Using the Science of the Stars," this newly rebranded predecessor is designed for a broader audience reach. The heart of Beyond Belief lies in its unveiling of Astro-Theology, showcasing how the movements of celestial bodies have influenced the allegorical stories present in religious texts. Readers will be captivated by the intricate dance between the stars and the moral teachings that form the basis of Christian and Judaic traditions. Many people do not question their belief systems because they rarely encounter enough cohesive and logical evidence to rethink them. Beyond Beliefis written for the modern reader, using current language that is logical, informative, and concise. The rights of others are both recognized and supported. Others are free to follow their own cultural and religious paths. This work does NOT advocate forcing anyone to follow anything in particular. It is not an attack on any individual or institution. Religion is in the public domain and, as such, must necessarily expect public examination of its customs, rituals, holy days, and doctrines. One of the key strengths of this book is its ability to bridge the gap between spirituality and science. By delving into the science of the stars (ASTRONOMY), Roho seamlessly merges ancient wisdom with ...

Why I Hate Planet Soulmate: A novella by Sara Penrose 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 12 hours ago

She is 20 years old and has never been on a date, so she is a little jealous of the residents of Planet Soulmate who meet their true love at age 16 upon sight. That's not the only annoyance on Planet Soulmate. There are also loud singing flowers, overly-complicated dances, and most of all, too much glitter. Adelaide is surprised when she meets Verv, a man the same age as her who has never met his soulmate and she is even more surprised when he asks to join her for her next assignment. The thing is, she likes Verv, although she won't admit it, and she's terrified of falling for him only to lose him when he finally does meet his soulmate. As the importance of Adelaide's assignments grow, so do her conflicting emotions. Will she let herself fall for Verv, or will she push him away to protect herself?

The Disappearance of the Surcouf: The Mysterious Sinking of the Allies’ Largest Submarine during World War II by Charles River Editors Price verified 12 hours ago

It takes a special type of person to serve in a nation's navy, especially on long voyages that separate men and women from their loved ones, and no service is both loved and hated as that aboard submarines, for very few people ever serve on them on a whim. For one thing, the psychological impact of being trapped for long periods underwater in tight, cramped quarters is more than many people can stand. Also, submarine service is uncharacteristically hazardous; after all, if a surface vessel is sunk, the crew has a reasonable chance of escaping death in lifeboats or being rescued out of the water by another ship. Conversely, if a submarine is badly damaged while submerged, the crew's chances of survival are at best remote. Given that there's such little margin for error in a submersible, many submarine losses remain sources of intrigue and mystery, and during World War II, few sinkings were as controversial as the Surcouf, a Free French submarine that disappeared in the Caribbean in 1942. When the Surcouf launched in 1929, it was a technological marvel. This wasn't a conventional submarine at all, but a 3,300-ton, 300-foot-long submersible light cruiser. Armed not just with torpedoes but also a pair of eight-inch guns, the Surcouf had a range of over 10,000 miles and was equipped with a seaplane in a hanger and a prison capable of holding up to 40 prisoners. When it was launched, the submarine looked like something out of the novels of Jules Verne, and many people believed it would make all existing submarines (and many surface warships) obsolete. On paper, this seemed to be a completely new and potentially lethal form of naval vessel, but in reality, the Surcouf, like other attempts to create such a vessel, had some basic and fundamental flaws. In fact, by the time France found itself at war with Nazi Germany in 1939, the Surcouf was outdated and basically irrelevant, though it was still in active service with the French Navy. When France was defeated by Nazi ...

Building Emotional Resilience in Preteens with Mindful Arts Therapy by Susan Day Price verified 2 hours ago

In today's society, preteens are navigating a complex journey into adolescence, facing challenges unlike any before. It's crucial for their growth and well-being to build emotional resilience during this pivotal time. Emotional resilience lays a solid foundation for self-awareness, emotional regulation, and compassion towards themselves and others. Mindfulness and art therapy are powerful tools that teach presence and non-reactivity, equipping preteens with the ability to handle life's fluctuations with assurance and poise. Shoot The Dog (Virgil Cain Mystery Book 3) by Brad Smith 4.5 Stars (427 Reviews)    Price verified 10 hours ago

From the author of Crow's Landing and Red Means Run comes the third novel in the Virgil Cain series - a riveting mystery revolving around the discovery of a movie star's body near the Hudson River. In upstate New York, Virgil Cain is drawing hay behind his team of massive Percherons when two movie scouts show up and offer $500 a day to use the horses in a film to be shot in the area. Virgil, in need of cash, reluctantly pockets the money, but he soon finds the chaotic set of Frontier Woman to be more trouble than it's worth. Savvy producer Sam Sawchuk is in over her head; when she's not propping up her talent-challenged husband-cum-director, she's trying to keep tabs on a new investor, the Native American casino owner Ronnie Red Hawk, a rambling egomaniac with designs on an infamous starlet. When the film's leading lady turns up dead, Virgil discovers that more is at stake than the carnal interests of a casino magnate and the production of a major motion picture. And although he'd rather leave the whole bunch to stew in their own juices, he realizes he needs to step in before a charming ten-year-old actress named Georgia becomes the next victim. Praise for Brad Smith: 'Brad Smith has got the goods - he's funny, poignant, evocative, and he tells a blistering tale. A writer to watch, a comet on the horizon' - Dennis Lehane 'Country noir doesn't get much better' - Library Journal 'Stellar... Wonderfully wrought characters, delicious wit, and droll storytelling make [Shoot the Dog] a delightful romp' - Publishers Weekly Brad Smith was born and raised in southern Ontario. He has worked as a farmer, signalman, insulator, truck driver, bartender, schoolteacher, maintenance mechanic, roofer, and carpenter. He lives in an eighty-year-old farmhouse near the north shore of Lake Erie. Red Means Run, the first novel in his Virgil Cain series, was named among 2012's Best Crime Novels by Booklist.

Operation S&D by Janelle Taylor 4.3 Stars (9 Reviews)    Price verified 9 hours ago

Justice is blind. Vengeance sees only red. I did not learn of the cold-blooded assassination of several CIA agents, who were part of the team on our previous mission, Operation DFC, until it was too late. Spencer "RedDog" Watkins and I are still alive, but our loved ones paid the ultimate price for being a part of our lives, leaving us heartbroken and consumed by an unquenchable thirst for revenge. Black Viper and Raccoon survived the first round of murders orchestrated by the de Santos cartel and were assigned to join us on a total black op, which I nicknamed Operation S&D - Seek and Destroy. With new cover identities issued by the Agency, we slip into Central America under the guise of Lobos del Diablo - Devil Wolves Motorcycle gang. Our mission in Nicaragua, which is a tinderbox embroiled in the illicit drug trade and the internal battle between the Sandinista regime and the Contra rebels, is to report on other field operatives who are suspected of going rogue. The unofficial mission is to take down the de Santos drug cartel and leave no survivors. The men Spencer and I used to be died with the slaughter of our loved ones, leaving us nothing more than snarling beasts stalking prey, undetected, until it is too late for the cartel to plan a counterattack. We are deadly, cold-blooded killers with nothing to lose -- alive only to kill those responsible for creating us -- and the damage to my soul is so severe, I trust no one. If successful in destroying our enemies, do we dare hope their annihilation heals our traumatic pasts, or is there not enough humanity left to salvage?
