Poetry, History, Memory: Wang Jingwei and China in Dark Times by Zhiyi Yang (University of Michigan Press) Price verified 6 hours ago

Wang Jingwei, poet and politician, patriot and traitor, has always been a figure of major academic and popular interest. Until now, his story has never been properly told, let alone critically investigated. The significance of his biography is evident from an ongoing war on cultural memory: modern mainland China prohibits serious academic research on wartime collaboration in general, and on Wang Jingwei in particular. At this critical juncture, when the recollection of World War II is fading from living memory and transforming into historical memory, this knowledge embargo will undoubtedly affect how China remembers its anti-fascist role in WWII. In Poetry, History, Memory: Wang Jingwei and China in Dark Times, Zhiyi Yang brings us a long overdue reexamination of Wang's impact on cultural memory of WWII in China. In this book, Yang brings disparate methodologies into a fruitful dialogue, including sophisticated methods of poetic interpretation. The author argues that Wang's lyric poetry, as the public performance of a private voice, played a central role in constructing his political identity and heavily influenced the public's posthumous memory of him. Drawing on archives (in the PRC, Taiwan, Japan, the USA, France, and Germany), memoires, historical journals, newspapers, interviews, and other scholarly works, this book offers the first biography of Wang that addresses his political, literary, and personal life in a critical light and with sympathetic impartiality.

The words are mine. The ideas are mine. The opinions are mine. This book tells my story in lyrics, my feelings, my fears. I try to express how I feel and my frustrations. I try to cross the barriers of my writing limitations, not always done. I do find it hard to actually put into words exactly what I am trying to say even when it seems the most easiest way to say it. Please enjoy, as we are not all here forever.

Splinters (Dark Poetry Book 1) by J J Ginty 3.7 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

This rare compendium of poetry, one could say, is characteristic of a photo album. Splinters is a poetic album, capturing evanescent moments of one's life, in perhaps the same way a selection of photographs might. Though unlike photography, which generally tends to capture the happier moments of our lives, J J Ginty's 'poetic camera' tends to encapsulate our more desolate inscapes. With it's depictions of Life, Love, Loss, Darkness, Despair, Death, Addiction, Abandonment, Grief and spiritual insight. This piece is not only a personal comprehension; it is a common appreciation... for all splintered hearts to share. Splinters is a preludial introduction to J J Ginty's "Dark Poetry" series.

Amsterdam. Motion & Posture (Italian Edition) by Alberto Pian (Amsterdam. Motion & Posture) 3.2 Stars (8 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

After reading deconstruction, I have learnt to decorate language in new symbolic tropes. I have been very much influenced by Ezra Pound and also by Japanese poetry. The poems have varied themes and there's a fondness for lyrical eroticism; there's a passion to sculpt nature to new vistas of symbolism. I have also used photography for writing the Haiku.

Geo.: and the interference that is poetry noise. by Darren Hobson (BookRix) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

We live in complicated times all that we are and what we do is connected with everything that surrounds us, any action will cause a reaction and no matter how hard you try not to interfere in other people's lives it is totally impossible to do so. This book is about consequences about a person who may or may not be fragile in the mind, how every action will push our subject to the extremes, opening deep wounds and manipulating his paranoid ways. It shows how a simple smile can push a person gently through the day without hindrance from the usual problems that we all face, yet on the other hand just a misplaced word could cast our subject into a whirlpool of despair that will make the next twenty hours hell. There is a chain reaction in every second that we breathe, a knock on effect that like a domino run will continue rippling into the future colliding with unsuspecting victims, this is the GEO in our lives as we are all anchored to this earth and we are all interacting lost souls. The poet continues to explore the dark regions of our lives bringing the cockroaches into the open but for all the bad news in-between the chaotic verses there will always be a little hidden silver lining waiting to be found.

Butch & Louie's Book of Poetry by Butch and Louie (Butch & Louie Publishing) 3.9 Stars (42 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

Even if you've never liked poetry, you'll love ours. Read Diana Lopez's Editorial Review of our new poetry book to find out why it has been downloaded thousands of times. It's not intellectual poetry, award winning poetry, pedantic poetry or poetry for other poets. It's for regular people. Join the 20,000 readers who already have their copies of our Butch & Louie books. You'll be glad you did. By the way, we don't know Ms. Lopez, a Professor of Creative Writing, and we didn't ask her to review our book. We just saw it posted one day on another site and thought you might like to see what she had to say. Aristotle wrote the book, Poetics, which defined poetry as the form of real life art that utilizes rhythm, language, and harmony. He says it's the use of harmony that separates poetry from other forms of writing. He likens poetry to verbal music. If you ever read one of Aristotle's poems, you'll wonder what music he was listening to. Poetry generally adheres to one of a couple of hundred poetic forms. Those forms are like the rules for writing poetry. Since we seldom follow rules, we didn't follow the poetic form rules either. If we had, that would have been out of character for us, and we hate being out of character. We're Butch & Louie. We've tried to create a memorable image in each poem using a few carefully chosen words, that we could spell. That's our poetic form. We've applied it to life, love, romance, nature, travel, relationships, the mind, the body and the soul for you. We think you'll like our Butch & Louie poetry. It's unlike anything you've read before. You might have read one of our other books like Butch & Louie's Book of Stress-Relieving Humor. It's really funny, and it's good for you. Research suggests reading Butch & Louie's Book of Stress Relieving Humor for only six minutes a day can reduce your stress by 68%, improve your ability to relate to others and cut your chances of getting Alzheimer's by two and a half times. Just Papering over the Cracks. by Darren Hobson (BookRix) 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 8 hours ago

The Just series of books welcomes a new cub to their family with words of poetry about the glory and the tragedy that you find in our daily lives, there are words of hope to bring people back from the brink of depression when it seems all hope is lost, there are words of truth that have been hidden from the world, words that only can be whispered to one another in the kitchens of families desperate to see a better time, there are words from the past that were brutal and cruel, words that want to be part of a better, brighter future. This collection of poetry is a stunning, interactive portrait of what this indie poet sees every day, this is like a fairground ride that lashes you from one point of view to another, short stories that are based on facts from the past, some poems document what a cruel world we live in, but no matter how deep the poems get, or how tragic and bloody life becomes, the poet believes in the future , he believes the best is yet to come, that we as humans should unite as one to overcome our struggles to move forward, to unite to move forward out of the dark ages of greed and corruption, of violence and murder to base our future on truth and honesty, so why not read what is here and believe in yourselves.

Lost in the rivers of my thoughts by Steve Price (BookRix) 4.2 Stars (3 Reviews)    Price verified 6 hours ago

This is my first attempt at writing a book like this but the 4th I have published. This book reflects the things I see, hear and at times just think. Most of all the lyrics written in this and previous books are hardly changed from the original text. I write lyrics very quickly once I have an idea, usually no more than 10 - 15 minutes. I have many influences musically and enjoy songwriters that tell a story, such as Bono(U2), Lennon, Dylan, Bowie and many others. I do not profess to anywhere near their league in fact a million miles away from them. I write to release myself from the everyday crap that goes on in the world and as a sense of peace to myself. This book is rather dark and naïve in its content and I was apprehensive whether to publish, but if you don't try, you don't know! So please enjoy.

Realisation through Retrospection: A journey of a clueless high school girl to medical school by RK Haritha (BookRix) 4.0 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 8 hours ago

We tend to realize many things when we look back but not when we are facing it. This simple truth has haunted ever since I could remember. Why is it that we don't realize present? Why do we miss when we loose? Our brain is a tiny creature fogged and clogged to think straight when presented with a situation. But somehow it gets mighty when we do realize. It is like a parent, guiding us in the right path by first allowing us to commit mistakes and then realize. Everyone fails in life in a multiple things but it doesn't matter as failing helps you to sharpen your brain like the fine cut of priceless diamond. During the board exams my heart beat so hard, it threatened to stop and fear as a big lump of ice clogged in my every nerve. But still here I am as a living breathing being. What then was my greatest fear means little to me now. I laugh at myself when I think about my behavior back then. Certain things we learn at a very tender age not really understanding the ocean of knowledge behind it. One such thing that never fails to fascinate me is 'Experience is the best teacher.' But I found out this simple truth through messy path. Since I have learnt it the hard way, my brain is going to remember this for a really long time and constantly remind me that this isn't the end of the world. "life doesn't depend on the amount of breaths you take on this Earth, but the moments that make you breathless."

Flaming Child (Un'immodesta proposta Book 6) by Filippo Parodi (Polimnia Digital Editions) 5.0 Stars (7 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

To float next to our inner child. To touch him by touching ourselves. To go as far as to lose ourselves into a "border vagueness", in "the glare of a nebulous frontier". This is the path between perceptiveness, psychoanalysis and magic which Filippo Parodi has undertaken by revisiting a wearing past, a gloom concealing ego traps and blaming archetypes. And through that darkness, beside the child - first angry, then an encouraging guide - the author walked, until he found a space of possible release. Hence his poetic testimony, almost in direct contact with the rapprochement process (and sometimes reconciliation) with childhood. A writing style more corporeal and immediate than his previous works. A writing in which the ancient desire to take off and play the game, even in the clear awareness of the inescapable travail of existence, resurfaces.

Confessions Seldom Made : 28 Untold Admissions and Songs to Remember Them by Digjam Sarma (Notion Press) 4.3 Stars (3 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

Confessions is a series of twenty-eight original, gritty, gnarly, joyous, melancholy, sometimes dark and sometimes eerie tales that have been condensed into poetry. They have been grouped into four sections, each reflecting a particular mood of nature. A book that tries to delve into uncharted islands of the human psyche, indulge yourself into a journey of forbidden feelings and desires, and their recreation into words- with some tea or red wine, and itsy-bitsy amount of serious reflection. The volume of the book has been kept purposefully small, so that emotions that come with them do not get too overwhelming, yet the beauty of the poems stay raw, pure and uncompromised.

There is a time in the year where the real reason of the festivities has been forgotten and a senseless celebration and a never-ending chain of commercial events takes place. Here in this collection of seasonal poems the poet takes you on a trip through the bad and good that is Christmas , a ride that takes in the beauty and the cruelty that has blighted all the magic that once was paramount to this time of year. This is the poets second trip through Christmas his humour and English wit is still strong as ever as we read through the verses that will either bring tears of joy or tears of sadness, we should all take note of how far Christmas has travelled from what it once was.
