Someone Special by S.K. Dinning 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

REVIEWS: "Really well written, amusing and uplifting. An inspiring story!" - Katie Fforde, No. 1 Sunday Times bestselling author of Recipe for Love, A French Affair and The Perfect Match. "It certainly is funny." - Anna King, BBC Radio Gloucestershire "This is Fabulous!" - Hayley Goleniowska, Britmums Special Needs Round-Up "The author takes what must have been hideously embarrassing real life events and turns them into tales that make you want to chuckle and even laugh out loud." - Robin Jenkins, Gloucestershire Echo. "Downright hilarious." - Closer Magazine. Admittedly, that last comment is actually from a review of a different, far more successful memoir, but that does not mean it is not valid. As far as I know, nobody from Closer Magazine has actually read 'Someone Special' so we cannot be certain that they did not like it, and if they did, they would probably have written "Down-right hilarious" if it had occurred to them. (All the other reviews are real though) BOOK DESCRIPTION: Jamie has Down's syndrome, autistic spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. He is a beautiful, charming and lovable little boy, but he is also - how can we put this? - an exceptionally "challenging" child. In this hilarious, heart-warming and unforgettable memoir, Jamie's long-suffering dad shares a selection of side-splitting and occasionally poignant stories from Jamie's unconventional childhood. Find out why he can never go back to his local library, and why the staff at his local swimming pool flinch whenever he arrives. The author also offers his own witty take on all sorts of topics connected to the subject of disability, and parenthood in general. This book will be adored by anyone who has ever known someone with special needs, or has ever been a parent, or indeed, has ever learned how to read. FROM THE AUTHOR: There are only so many times that you can hear people say "You should write a book about Jamie" before you eventually ...

ABORTION: Why all the controversy? by Kenneth Edward Barnes Price verified one day ago

The controversy has been going on for many years now. Abortions have been done, for centuries, but not on a scale as they are today. In addition, the earlier abortions were usually before a woman felt life inside of her womb. Today, there are those that say, "It is a woman's right" to have an abortion. On the other side of the scale, there are those that say, "It is murder." What is the answer? Is it murder? Does a woman have a "right" to end a pregnancy? That is what this book is about. Will what I say in this book make any difference in the debate? I do not know. Most people have already made up their mind if abortion is right or wrong. There are others, however, that have not given it much thought. Even if you believe that a woman has a right to have an abortion, have you really looked into what the debate is all about? Have you looked carefully to see why there is such heated augments? If you are right and there is nothing wrong about a woman having an abortion, then you have nothing to worry about. If, however, you are wrong, this book could change your life. Just because "it is the law of the land" or just because the Supreme Court said it is "legal," does not make it right. This same court also said that a slave in America was not an American citizen, but the property of his master. What about God? What does He say about a woman having an abortion? Does the Bible say anything on this subject? It has much to say. Many, however, do not care what the Bible or God says or thinks; some do not even believe that He exists. If this is the case, what I say in this book will not matter to those people; they will only know the truth when they stand before the Creator of the universe and answer to Him. To those that do believe that God created us and all life, I believe you should read what I found in the scriptures and what God has said about how and why we are here. Therefore, I hope by the time you have read the last page of this book you will either know the ...

Dandelion: Once a foster child, always a foster child. by America DeFleur 4.8 Stars (19 Reviews)    Price verified one day ago

The echo of the spinning tire beneath her car seemed to ring louder than the music she attempted to drown her thoughts in. Watching the world pass by in a haze, America sped down the freeway and out of the city while flashbacks of her long-forgotten childhood consumed her. Her parents failed her, the foster care system failed her, social workers, probation officers, teachers and everyone who was supposed to protect her, tossed her aside. Now, years after emancipating and finding her husband in another woman's arms, America ran from her past yet again. Feeling weak and defeated, she sped into the distance leaving everyone, and everything she's ever known behind. Realizing that she was exactly what everyone always told her she would become - a statistic, her world shatters. Alone and suffering, she found herself spiraling into a dark hole as memories flood in. She's finally had enough.

Based on a true story of a girl coping with an abusive childhood in the 1970s in central England. His voice echoes through her nightmares, "Even when I die, I'll come back to haunt you." It's time for Jes to bury Marie's ghosts forever. Six-year-old Marie finds her world has changed and become one of confusion, deceit and abuse. No longer called by her birth name, she is unaffectionately referred to as Scrag. Her will to survive manifests quite bizarre tactics, as she deviates off course into a childhood of insanity, paranoia, glue-sniffing, self-harming and messages from David Bowie ringing through her ears. Her mind contrives strategies to cope with the continued onslaught that it seems destined to endure. Adulthood is her escape route if she can survive the wait, but can demons be truly locked away in the past forever? This is the story of one child's mind at the mercy of a real life monster. Author note: This is my story of how a paedophile entered my life, home and family when I was six years old. I highlight how he attempted to break my mind, soul and spirit for his total control over me. I fought for my sanity, survival and freedom against his evil and constant onslaught of abuse. I was Marie; now I'm Jes.

"And with that we struck the most important bargain of all: If I ever said something unfriendly I would pay him a fine, the amount determined by the severity of the infraction. Lobbing an F-bomb, for example, would cost me 50 pesos. Raising my voice would cost me 5[... ] 'Well, that's my plan," I added. "What do you think?' Peter sat quietly for a few seconds before a smile slowly spread across his face. 'I think I'm going to be rich.'" So when his new boss offers him a leave of absence, Kirk jumps at the chance to realize his dream of driving the more than 4,000 miles from Salt Lake City to Panama's Darien Gap. His wife readily consents, with one minor catch: He has to take his son Peter along for the ride. Follow Kirk and his emotionally estranged 13-year-old son on a four-month long journey in this true, no-frills travelogue.
