Conspiracy Theories: Smart Technologies "Cashless Society" The New World Order Agenda by Cheryl Leonard 3.9 Stars (17 Reviews)    Price verified one hour ago

In the current digital age, smart technologies are increasing quickly in popularity and accessibility throughout the world. These trendy and convenient "smart" products include smartphones, smart watches, smart meters, voice controlled digital assistants such as Alexa and Cortana. All of these comprise the formation of the "smart grid" system. This grid encompasses the linking of the US power grid to the public internet. Mobile, contactless, and digital payments are quickly advancing in consumer markets. This shift towards a cashless society where purchases of goods or services are completely digital and electronic, are alerting privacy and security advocates, due to massive data manipulation through a centralized banking system. In combination with advanced biometric technologies, such as facial, voice recognition, digitized fingerprints, and implantable chips (RFID, and VeriChip, technologists are concerned with the methods used and disclosure of personal information and collection. This book examines the origins behind smart technologies and new evolving digital payment systems, and the futuristic biometrics agenda. It addresses the proponents of a cashless society as well as the conspiracy theorists' viewpoints. The predominant theory being that the Global Elites of The New World Order are pushing the agenda for a cashless society, in an attempt to gain complete control and total domination of the world's population, through a centralized one world government. To achieve their goals, and realize their objectives of depopulation, one world government and banking system, one world religion, and 24/7 surveillance of an obedient, passive microchipped population.

Blood Bones and Blisters: A culinary rant by Tristan B. Jones 4.4 Stars (40 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

? Chefs, Cooks, Kitchen Rats everywhere, this is for you.? "Liked Kitchen Confidential? Read this!" "I'm a career Cook and have been a sous chef, and this book is an updated version like Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential! Whether you are a cook or not this book tells it like it is and is funny too! So, read it and enjoy it!" - Kindle Customer "Outspoken and Opinionated" "This book is how Kitchen Confidential would have read if Bourdain had spent his childhood in a trailer park, being fed squirrel brains for breakfast instead of spending his summer holidays in France, eating fresh oysters." -Amazon Reviewer I wrote this book for cooks. For the younger crowd just starting in the industry you can learn some valuable lessons from my experience. For the older folks that have been in this stress riddled drug soaked mad house for a while, I think you'll get a few laughs. The first half is an abbreviated version of my story in kitchens around the world followed by some assorted thoughts on our industry and modern F&B culture. I have made a lot of mistakes and done numerous things that many will call questionable, but I didn't sugar coat it. This isn't me trying to tell you what I have done is right. This rant contains both the good and the bad. I have held chef positions on three continents and I have built up more than my fair share of opinions along the way. Travel, drugs, danger, foul language, and all levels of cuisine permeate the pages of my story in hospitality. Restaurant kitchens will always be my home. If you feel the same or are trying to figure out whether they should be yours as well, I think you might enjoy this.Topics like things to look for as a chef hired to start a new restaurant, how to deal with the modern customer, regulations, foodies, the next generation of cooks, and more are covered in my own, abrasive style.

DAHOMEY : The True Story Behind The Kingdom That Inspired The Woman King (Black History Series) by Vivian Chibuife 3.4 Stars (22 Reviews)    Price verified 6 hours ago

UPDATED EDITION BLACK HISTORY Africa has long been a stunningly scenic, intellectually gifted, and culturally varied continent. Many stories describe the history of the African people, including their development, difficulties, setbacks, and tenacious advancement. The African Kingdom of Dahomey was founded in the seventeenth century in the West African portion of the continent, and throughout the 1700s and 1800s, it became wealthy and strong thanks to the slave trade. The area is now Benin's southernmost region. There was a social class structure in Dahomey. At the very top was the king. The royal class stood under him, then commoners, and last slaves. One male and one female employee had a position in every government office. The ladies gave the king an update after checking on the men. The mighty army of Dahomey included women as well. In the 1600s, the Alladah monarchy gave birth to the kingdom of Dahomey. At this period, European slave traffickers were already traveling along the Atlantic coast. Dahomeans started enslaving members of other tribes. They traded guns and other items for the prisoners by selling them to slave traffickers. They also had their slaves. Large plantations where these slaves toiled produced food for the royal palace and the soldiers. Throughout the 1700s, the empire became more powerful and expansive. Dahomey began exporting palm oil rather than slaves in the 1800s when the slave trade was abolished in Great Britain and other nations. Dahomey was taken over by France towards the end of the 1800s. It was united with other areas to create a colony that the French dubbed Dahomey. In 1960, this colony became independent. Up until 1975, it was known as Dahomey before changing its name to Benin. This is the tale of the Dahomey Kingdom. This book will teach you more about: THE KINGDOM OF DAHOMEY • Rise and expansion of the Empire (1600-1740) • A localized power (1740-1852) • Abolishing the slave trade (1852-1880) • ...

Beyond the Killing Tree, A Journey of Discovery Revisited by Stephen Santiago Reynolds 4.5 Stars (9 Reviews)    Price verified 10 hours ago

In this digital edition, Beyond the Killing Tree has been revisited from the original hard cover publication. There are some new chapters and fine tuning of other chapters, though the context has not changed in spirit since it was first identified by the Anchorage Daily News as the best Alaska non-fiction book published in 1995. This is a memoir of adventure, personal change, and transformation -- a journey of discovery by Reynolds, who spent almost 30 years as a game warden in New Mexico and Alaska. There are elements of both humor and tragedy within, but does not dwell on either, as the author takes you by horseback, boat, and airplane into wilderness areas of both states. A "captivating tale of the past," says the Albuquerque Journal; "Gracefully written," says the Alaska Magazine; "When you read a page of Reynolds' prose, you'll swear that you were there," says the Tacoma News Tribune.

From a Bush Wing: Notes of an Alaska Wildlife Trooper by Stephen Santiago Reynolds 4.3 Stars (164 Reviews)    Price verified 11 hours ago

This is a long-awaited book about flying the Alaska Bush by the author of Beyond the Killing Tree: A Journey of Discovery. Herein Stephen Santiago Reynolds relates his flying experiences as an Alaska Wildlife Trooper -- and those of other officers -- while stationed throughout one of the most dangerous environments in the world. Whether tragic, humorous, or surrounding the simple beauty of flight, there is something that jumps out in many of these chapters -- how not to fly or abuse the privilege of flying. If you are a pilot, you might see some familiar forms -- or, better yet, you might think you are looking into a mirror. "If you learn how to improve your own safety record from one or more of these events, then this effort will have been worthwhile," says the author, "for you, for your friends and families, and for me."

Spartacus: The Myth and the Man by M. J. Trow 3.6 Stars (19 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This is a revised version of M. J. Trow's classic biography of an ancient and unforgettable hero. 'I am Spartacus' ranks among the most famous lines in Hollywood, with its image of the man's comrades prepared to die in his place in the Kirk Douglas film. And die they did; not the actors but the real army of Spartacus, crucified in their thousands along the Appian Way that leads to Rome. Spartacus: The Myth and the Man is a revised version of M. J. Trow's original biography, the first to be written in English, of a legend who has become all things to all men. He has been the focus of a ballet and an opera. Karl Marx called him 'the finest fellow in ancient history' and a communist group in 1920s Germany tried to topple the Weimar government in his name. The humble slave from Thrace (today's Bulgaria) became a gladiator, led a revolt and took on the greatest military system in history - Rome. The Romans were understandably anxious to erase him from history, so key facts about the man are hard to come by. What we do know is that he fought not one, but six Roman armies and beat them all before his final defeat. Thoroughly researched and impressive in its breadth, Spartacus: The Myth and the Man will please readers with an interest in ancient history. Praise for Spartacus: The Myth and the Man: 'Puts the fascinating story of Spartacus and his rebellion into its historical context in great detail. I really enjoyed it' - Amazon review 'If you're interested in Ancient Rome, or really enjoyed the Kirk Douglas epic, this book is fascinating. It highlights how the Spartacus story has been used and misused down the centuries and attempts to put flesh on the bones of the story' - Amazon review M. J. Trowis a historian, biographer and crime novelist. His books include the well-known Lestrade and Maxwell series as well as non-fiction such as Who Killed Kit Marlowe? and Vlad the Impaler. Originally from Wales, he now lives on the Isle of Wight.

Boys in the Park by James Huber 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 11 hours ago

This is a work of non-fiction the only elements of fiction are the names of the characters Three boys in the 50's and 60's, growing up, slowly, playing and laughing in those halcyon days. It was over 60 years ago that we played in the mud. Seems like yesterday. We had no fear of being out after dark. We had no fear of marauding gangs, dope was used to paint balsa wood airplanes. Most fights ended in "Yah, if I'm one what are you." Fighting was not very common. We played baseball with a T-Shirt wrapped around out hand for a glove. The old ball bat had tape and nails. We played in dust, mud and on asphalt. The teachers taught, as best they could. We learned a sense of values from them. The churches were all the same, ours was good the others were bad. But we didn't believe that either. To have a fifty cent piece was to be a tycoon. Money meant nothing much to us. We got paddled, had our mouths washed out with Ivory soap, oh how I remember that. A great summer trip was out to the farm, or boy scout camp. One summer we went out of state so our grandparents could visit their brothers and sisters. General Eisenhower was in the White House. That was all we needed to know. The rest would come along.Share with me, if you will, those times when we thought we would be forever young. This book, and all of my others are available for movie, animation, serialization or television rights. Contact my agent, James von Scholz for more information. james@vonscholz.de 1 212-444-2670

MAN VS CRAZY: a memoir of mental illness, maturity and mortality (Revised Edition) by Matthew James Elwell 4.5 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 14 minutes ago

"It'd only been a little over 18 months since I'd dared to leave the comfort of my childhood bedroom where the walls were still plastered with movie posters and action figures were lined up on the window ledge. And now, I had a front-row seat to psychosis, drug-addiction, sexual abuse, post-traumatic stress and self-harm. And that was only my personal life... " 18-year-old wannabe writer Matthew finds himself washed-up on the English Riviera, forced to take up work as a carer in a low-rent Nursing Home just to keep a roof over his head. He soon crosses paths with childhood friend Roxy; a streetwise aspiring musician suffering from schizophrenia, who opens up a world of chaos and colourful characters, and convinces Matthew to take a job on a secure Psychiatric Unit. There, he quickly realises that he's traded "changing nappies and soaping up old people's saggy bits" for a daily onslaught of abuse, restraints and genuine insanity. But when he falls into a relationship with ex-patient Laura, a single-mum with a troubled past, things really do start to get crazy. Always bitingly honest, sometimes darkly funny and occasionally tragic, "Man vs Crazy" is a coming of age memoir about the true price of the often traumatic journey into adulthood.

The Unknown Kingdom, Revelations of Shambhala, The Himalayan Journals by M.G. Hawking 4.3 Stars (3 Reviews)    Price verified 13 hours ago

Discover The Unknown Kingdom. You are invited to take an unforgettable journey into a fabled world to explore ancient knowledge virtually unknown to the modern world. Sweeping in an immense arc across South Asia is the Great Himalayan Range, an uninterrupted 1,500 mile crescent of mountains with over 110 peaks rising to elevations of 25,000 feet or more. Extending from Kashmir's 26,600 foot Naga Parbat through Tibet's 25,445 foot Namcha Barwa, the immense wilderness of the Himalaya cradles the most isolated areas of Earth's landmass. Yawning gorges as deep as 16,000 feet and ice peaks towering nearly six miles high shelter remote, lushly forested valleys. For thousands of years, the largely inaccessible and unexplored inner portion of this vast frozen fortress has been known in esoteric literature as the Great White Island, and has inspired countless stories and legends that it conceals a kingdom of great masters possessed of transcendent wisdom and power. Many years ago, on an extended trek into the remote inner range of the Himalayas, explorer M.G. Hawking chanced on a small valley deep in the rugged wilderness. Surrounded by massive peaks, he encountered a beautiful village, a mysterious realm referred to by its residents as Siddhalaya. Siddha, in Sanskrit, denotes a high adept or master; alaya means the abode of -- for Siddhalaya is said to be the 'Kingdom of the Masters.' From Hawking's journal of that day: "The village is small and ancient, yet very beautiful. Seemingly overhead, rising nearly six miles into the sky, towers the great Himalayan massif of Dhaulagiri. Vast snowfields roll upward from evergreen forest to immense blue-white glaciers and ragged cliffs of ancient ice. Far above, magic colors appear, shimmer and disappear, silent reflections in clouds that sail across iced granite on high, swift journeys. Nestled in a valley below the snowfields, in dense emerald-green forest by a pure azure lake, the village spreads its river-stone structures. ...

The Yardbirds had a string of international hits throughout the 1960s, including For Your Love, Shapes of Things and Over Under Sideways Down, and their improvisational on stage "rave-ups" became legendary. Although they were together for just five years, their reach has extended far into rock culture. Noted music historian Alan Clayson charts the band's rise and changing line-up, from the pub and club circuit of the United Kingdom to rock/RnB immortality. This study covers not just the group's five years of frenetic activity in the sixties but also follows the subsequent careers of individual members. Page's monumental success with Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton's rise to guitar god and Beck's formation of The Jeff Beck Group, as well as The Yardbirds' recent reformation, which sees original members Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty touring to packed auditoriums around the world. Long term fan and contemporary Clayson relates the story of this iconic British band with style and perception, placing them as pioneers of psychedelic rock and early hard rock. This is an intimate and fascinating account not only of The Yardbirds themselves but also of an amazingly creative period of British music history. Many rock critics and historians aside from Clayson credit The Yardbirds' influence on generations of pop acts, right through to punk and the Britpop of the nineties. 'The Yardbirds were the first psychedelic band' - Jeff Beck 'There were four rock bands in the world that really counted, and The Yardbirds was one of them' - Simon Napier-Bell Noted rock critic ...

Jeffrey Dahmer and his Father by George Stietz 2.3 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 15 hours ago

How well did Jeffrey Dahmer's father really know him, and did he use the right approach in attempting to know him? In this work, the author analyzes the behavioral and historical paradigm that Lionel Dahmer repeatedly used to attempt to understand his son's behavior as a boy, a teen and a man. Analysis is also presented regarding attempts and behavior that proved to be outliers to the sample, the general application of the paradigm and the algorithm that Jeff's thoughts and conduct presented over the course of his life. In addition, expert outside sources are consulted, as well, to further elucidate the conundrum that Jeff's actions and psychological leanings created and which manifested themselves in horrific murder and mayhem the likes of which mankind has rarely witnessed before or since. JEFFREY DAHMER AND HIS FATHER offers the reader a bird's eye view into the development and psyche of Jeffrey Dahmer--just like his father had.

Unbelievable Crimes Volume One: Macabre Yet Unknown True Crime Stories by Daniela Airlie 4.2 Stars (340 Reviews)    Price verified 15 hours ago

Step into some of the most heinous (yet relatively unknown) crimes ever committed and delve into twelve twisted tales of murder in Unbelievable Crimes. From the deplorable abduction and imprisonment of young women by James Jamelske, who kept his victims in his basement, to the tale of charismatic charmer Charles Schmid who boasted about his savage murders, each story in this anthology dives into pure evil. In one case, I'll take you back to 1993, to the city of Houston, where two teenage girls, Jennifer Ertman, and Elizabeth Peña, were brutally raped and murdered. This crime can only be described as barbaric and senseless, especially when you factor in the young ages of the killers. I'll delve into the bizarre and twisted story of Carl Tanzler, a man who becomes fixated on a beautiful young woman. After her untimely death, he kept her as a mummified corpse in his home for years, with a genuinely inexplicable outcome. You'll also be introduced to the gruesome story of Omaima Nelson, an Egyptian-American woman who killed her husband before cooking and eating parts of his body. While most people know about the incomprehensible acts of Ted Bundy or the wicked crimes of the "killer clown" John Wayne Gacy, there's an underbelly of true crime that has been left untouched over the years. These crimes had a fleeting news story or a 30-second snippet on a local news station and have since been long forgotten. I believe we should remember these crimes to ensure the victims - and their ordeals - don't get wiped from true crime history. Discover the dark side of humanity as I delve into some of the most shocking and twisted little-known true crime stories in Unbelievable Crimes Volume One. To most, the senseless acts of violence and pure evil depicted in these cases are simply unimaginable. But, they're all somebody's reality. Please note, as with all true crime content, this book contains details that cover real-life murders and violence.

Arts Council Immortals by Kevin Kiely 3.6 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 15 hours ago

Arts Council Immortals is a satire in the blockbuster genre using real names and events. During four decades -- 1980-2020 the arts council in 70 Merrion Square, Dublin received government grants totalling over 1.6 billion. Their worst kept secrets are the hierarchy, careerism, imposition of 'arts policy' and fear in controlling the national arts-scene by absolute power. A Haughey-esque group with the bogus name 'aosdána' infiltrated the council in the 1980s. This 'ace gang' were self-elected to siphon euro-millions for themselves while being nowhere enshrined in any law or statutory instrument. The admin-staff, board and insiders absorb excessive percentages of the annual grants in salaries, expenses, and perks according to the council's politburo structures devoid of democratic principles. The council 'declares' financial data annually in reports, including artspeak and brochure rhetoric. The financial data relates to the cash flow in denominations from millions to thousands disguised in elementary accountancy. The arts council mechanism of 'Declared Interest' is executed by dictatorial illuminati dispensing grant monies through covert networking within their loyal cliques. Arts Council Immortals foregrounds obvious solutions for an institution which is unquantifiable, non-measurable, out of control in psychopathology, and has become a Khmer Rouge Kulchur Cult. Council reports from 1951-2020 are presented in excerpts with photographs and cash flow statements, as well as personal testimonies from 'insiders' commenting on the corruption. An addictive Holocaust Thriller What if you had the power to take control of all of Germany's recourses and power after the war? 5.0 out of 5 stars What an exciting read. Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2022It talks of the heartache of concentration camp life for Carl's girlfriend and how she suffers. She escapes and wants revenge for herself and others. Carland and Ericka have been friends since childhood. He is German and she is Jewish. I don't want to give it away, but can they get together? This is the first in the series, I finished second in the series, and it was fantastic. Is there duplicity going on or is the offer from Hitler and Himmler for real? 5.0 out of 5 stars great book Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2022I found this book very exciting and kept me going to see what happened. I bought. The next book in the series. What a great read. It kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through. I recommend this book for very one. The first book in the series is a most unusual love story set in WWII between Carl Unger, a Nazi and his Jewish childhood girlfriend, Ericka Steinberg. Her father was a well-known Jewish Doctor in Berlin. Carl's uncle, Joseph Unger, was the chairman of the board of Unger Industries that financed Adolph Hitler at the beginning of the war. Carl's biological parents were murdered, and Joseph immediately adopted Carl to continue his grooming to take over the Fourth Reich (New World Order) when the time was right. Himmler gave Carl orders to marry Christine, a devout Nazi. Her father, Maurice, made his fortune as a young man by selling armaments to war-torn countries. Including the Nazis. Carl initially was supposed to bring all the art and valuables out of Germany and surrounding countries to finance what was ahead in America. He comes back to Germany with Ericka to bring back the paintings and valuables that were left behind. 5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating read! Reviewed in the United States on July ...

The Bad Boys of Diplomacy: Diplomats "badness" ratings by country by S. Novikov 3.0 Stars (6 Reviews)    Price verified 9 hours ago

The first part of this book describes the behaviour of that "special" category of drivers who have diplomatic privileges on the roads of various countries. Some of them drink & drive, some of them are guilty of speeding, and some just don't like to pay the parking fees. Amazingly, it is often not possible to prosecute them for this, and so the countries where these diplomats reside lose substantial amounts of money on fines alone. So diplomats of which countries violate the law most often? And diplomats of which countries almost never violate the law? Which countries openly share statistics about foreign diplomats violations, and which countries conceal them? This book answers these questions and includes frank comments from the diplomats themselves that sheds light on the behavior of their colleagues from different countries. You'll read answers from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of 22 countries: Vatican, Great Britain, Switzerland, Singapore, Poland, Norway, New Zealand, Moldavia, Malaysia, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Kazakhstan, Ireland, Georgia, Finland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Croatia, Brazil, Bulgaria, and Armenia. These data have never been published before, and so some of the stories are quite incredible and shocking. At the end you will also be able to clearly see who holds the top spots in law violation amongst the diplomatic corps. In the second part of the book we will talk about personae non gratae. Usually the motives for declaring someone a persona non grata are this diplomat's hostility towards the government of the state of residence, interference with its internal affairs, disrespect of its laws, customs etc. Often the phrase "for impermissible activities incompatible with diplomatic status" lurks behind it, which can also mean an espionage charge. Read on to find about about some fascinating details associated with this somewhat unpleasant status.

Persia in the Great Game: Sir Percy Sykes – explorer, consul, soldier, spy by Antony Wynn (Lume Books) 4.1 Stars (69 Reviews)    Price verified 11 hours ago

Percy Sykes was sent by Army Intelligence in the 1890s, first as an explorer and spy, then to open consulates along Persia's eastern borders. His job was to deter Russian expansion towards India. In his time, Sir Percy Sykes was a legend of empire: unpaid, he rode through thousands of miles of the harshest desert, marsh and mountain, often with his indomitable sister. He did whatever he felt necessary to protect his country's interests: when consul at Meshed during a very turbulent time, he bugged the Russian consulate and, armed only with diplomacy, single-handedly faced down a Russian attempt to annex north-east Persia. But Sykes was not the typical servant of empire. He hunted gazelle with princes, read Persian poetry, sat at the feet of dervish masters and got to the heart of the country. Persia in the Great Game explores Sykes' 25 years in Persia with humour and domestic detail, to give an insight that is instructive today. Praise for Persia in the Great Game: 'A vivid reminder of the extraordinary lives and times of those who once played the Great Game. Percy Sykes was one of the ablest, if most controversial, of these. A valuable addition to Great Game literature' - Peter Hopkirk 'Very entertaining biography of an extraordinary character' - Goodreads Antony Wynn read Persian and Turkish at Balliol College, Oxford, and has spent many years working in and around Persia. As well writing books, he is a reviewer, columnist and lecturer.

Sketches by Patrick Toddy 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 11 hours ago

This was first published as a paperback in Pittsberg, and soon afterwards nearly all copies I had went missing from 7th Ave Saint Peters, Australia. What then happened some years later was a so called super-band formed, with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lyn & Roy Orbison and went by the name, The Traveling Wilbury's. Most of the Bob Dylan contributions to the band was with songs that talked about personal items such as where the book was printed, or where my literary agent came from. Now there's quite a story! Seems she has some links to a mafia hit-man for hire from some years ago. her address is in New jersey, and Bruce Springsteen is from the same state. His 1980 album was literally about what was going to happen to John Lennon after his silence of 5 years was broken. This book contains some short stories written as literary sketches, and also has some non-fictional chapters that cover various topics including the Charles Manson serial killings being linked to my home state of South Australia. Much the same can be said about the '63 JFK assassination too. By the time it was all written my good friend, "God incarnate" Hindu Astrologer Bhagawan Soaham of UK had passed away under mysterious circumstances. His focus had been a 21 year penance for peace, and he'd also worked with Gandhi in the Quit India movement. I guess that his ppolitics were not believable and so a fire was set at the Alma Road address and he shortly after died. I had likewise experienced some very violent attacks and conspiracies, some of which continue to this day. Jay Soaham --- Jay Jagat!

In July of 1865, Dr. Edward William Pritchard was put on trial for the murder of his wife and mother-in-law. He slowly poisoned his wife, Mary Jane, while pretending to treat her for a mysterious illness. When her mother came to help care for her, Pritchard poisoned her, as well. He then falsified both women's death certificates. Over the course of the trial, dramatic testimonies exposed Pritchard's scandalous past, his infidelity, and the suspicious death of a servant girl he was suspected of killing years earlier. Pritchard was found guilty and was sentenced to death by hanging in Glasgow Green.

A Book of Remarkable Criminals by H. B. Irving 3.8 Stars (624 Reviews)    Price verified 8 hours ago

This classic study profiles serial killers, gentleman murderers, and every stripe of madman in between Benjamin Pitezel should never have trusted H. H. Holmes. In 1894, the two men conspired to fake Pitezel's death for the sake of a $10,000 insurance settlement. But Holmes decided murder would be simpler. He killed his partner, kidnapped three of his children, and tried to claim the insurance money as his own. The scheme unraveled and Holmes killed the children as well. When he was caught, the police had no idea they had captured one of the vilest murderers in American history. The Pitezel murders were only the tip of a very bloody iceberg. The chilling case of H. H. Holmes -- famously recounted in Erik Larson's award-winning bestseller, The Devil in the White City -- is but one of the true crime tales contained in this remarkable work. Author H. B. Irving understood the public's lurid fascination with murder, and in this seminal study he shows readers the many faces of evil.

BHAI SAHIB RANDHIR SINGH (1878-1961) was an outstanding freedom-fighter and a great saint and theologian who has made a lasting contribution to the religious and cultural revival in Punjab, and was one of the first few Punjabi revolutionaries who staked their life and career to bring about political awakening and win freedom for their country. Son of a High Court Judge and educated in Govt. College and Mission College, Lahore, Bhai Randhir Singh ushered a moral and spiritual revival which set into motion what later on came to be known as Gurdwara Reform Movement. In the Rakabganj Affair (1913) it was his stern challenge to the British Government and stirring call to the people to organize resistance, which prevented the further desecration of the historic shrine. In 1914, he was the only non-emigrant Sikh leader who completely identified himself with the cause of the Ghadar Party and suffered imprisonment for seventeen long years. He is known to historians of this period as "Hero of the First supplementary Lahore Conspiracy Case''. He is the only Sikh Leader who, in the last hundred years or more, has been given 'Hukamnamas' and Robes of Honour by the (then) four Takhats of the Panth, in solemn recognition of his sacrifices and impact on his times. His deep and original expositions of various aspects of Sikhism (more than 30 books) are a lasting contribution to Sikh theology, philosophy and mysticism. He distinguished himself in Punjabi prose and poetry by an erudite and powerful grand style of his own. Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Ji devoted his life to Kirtan from 1901 and it is due to this, that he attracted and made friends with many Gursikhs. Out of these, he has written about the life events of 23 deceased ones in this book. He considered it desirable to write only about those, who had completed their earthly sojourn, since it is difficult to predict about a living being in his future conduct. There are many amazing events in this book, which might lead some ...

Archivist on a Bicycle: Jiří Fiedler by Ruth Ellen Gruber (Plunkett Lake Press) 4.2 Stars (27 Reviews)    Price verified 9 hours ago

Archivist on a Bicycle is a tribute to Ji?í Fiedler, a Czech Protestant, who for most of his life documented extinct Bohemian and Moravian Jewish communities at great danger to himself. His day job was as a children's book editor; his passion was mapping and archiving the sites of Jewish life in the Czech lands. From the 1970s through 2014, he was an invaluable source for scholars, genealogists, museum curators -- anyone in the world interested in Czech Jews. Ji?í rarely talked about what he called his "strange hobby," but viewed it as a decent person's response to Nazism and Communism. After the Velvet Revolution, he published Jewish Sights in Bohemia and Moravia and more than one hundred scholarly articles and reviews. His electronic encyclopedia of Jewish communities at the Jewish Museum of Prague contains 1,670 entries. The writers, translators, and publisher have honored Fiedler's spirit by making this collection of essays available "for free." "Archivist on a Bicycle is a very special work. Ji?í Fiedler was the self-commissioned historian of the Czech Jewish community compiling a vast personal archive before such memory was fashionable, before indeed it was acceptable. Essay after essay in this collection describes his mission and his struggle. The result is a rare insight into life in Czechoslovakia under Communist domination and in the post-Communist era. Fiedler was a man of uncompromising integrity, a 'moral man in an immoral society.' I read this book with tears and a smile, with growing admiration and unending gratitude." -- Michael Berenbaum, Professor of Jewish Studies and former Director of the Holocaust Research Institute, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum "A remarkable book about a unique person. Ji?í Fiedler's research and photos from a time when nearly no one dared to be openly interested in Jewish topics are an invaluable resource for researchers of Jewish history and culture in this central European region. His murder left 'a gap ...

Grandfather Lost by Vella Munn 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 14 minutes ago

Violent death mystery lasts for one hundred years In 1924, Homer Eon Flint, a thirty six year old multi-published writer and married father of three young children was found dead at the bottom of a canyon. According to a witness and the police, he was pinned under a taxi with a loaded pistol nearby. The media sensationalized his violent end. Some sources suggested he'd participated in an earlier bank robbery. Several friends even considered that he'd committed suicide because of his interest in the occult. The taxi driver--who died in prison--told police that Flint had hijacked the taxi at gunpoint and had driven away, only to die in an accident later that night. Then there's the belief held by Homer's family. He was a victim -- in the wrong place at the wrong time. Homer Eon Flint is considered one of the early twentieth century American pioneers in science fiction. His work such as The Devolutionist and The Emancipatrix have remained as pillars of the speculative fiction genre. The Blind Spot, co-written with fellow pioneer Austin Hall, has been reprinted nearly a dozen times. He was a well-known writer of pulp fiction -- some of his stories garnering payments of hundreds of dollars in the booming post World War I economy. Fellow writer Ralph Parker Anderson, when asked if Flint had died a criminal replied, "I do not accept the view that he was a robber. If he had committed a crime, it would have been a superbly clever one, not ordinary thievery." Modern writers and scholars tend to agree that Flint, who envisaged space travel and genetic testing when the automobile and movies were in their infancy, didn't commit a crime. There is more to the story -- one he didn't live to tell. His oldest granddaughter and fellow writer Vella Munn became obsessed with learning everything she could about the man who was taken from his family when her mother was only six. Not only was Vella given custody of the magazines that carried his published work and stacks of ...
