The Many Shades of Midnight (Tales of Isyr Book 1) by C M Debell 4.5 Stars (49 Reviews)    Price verified one minute ago

A plague of monsters. A deadly conspiracy. A truth that will shatter the world. Isyr. Stronger, brighter, more beautiful than other metals. Once the most desirable thing in Ellasia, now it is priceless, the pure Isyrium needed to produce it mined to exhaustion. What's left is controlled by the powerful mining syndicates, and such is the demand for their Isyrium that even kings do their bidding. Yet just as the beauty of Isyr hides a deadly secret, so too do the syndicates. A terrifying enemy is spreading a plague across the land, a sickness that kills or transforms everything it touches. Unable to contain the outbreaks, the King of Lankara begs the aid of his disgraced former military commander, Alyas-Raine Sera, a man who has spent years fighting syndicate expansion and whose resentment over his exile makes him an unpredictable, dangerous ally in the power struggle between the rulers of Ellasia and the mining companies. Attached to the envoy to recall Alyas, the apprentice surgeon Brivar finds his skills and loyalty tested as his service to his new patron uncovers secrets about Isyr and the plague that link it to the mining of Isyrium - and threaten the life of the man it is his duty to safeguard. In their own separate ways, Alyas and Brivar must take on the might of the syndicates and confront the greed, murder, betrayal and impossible choices of a crisis that has been decades in the making - and the price of their failure could be everyone and everything. The Many Shades of Midnight is a gritty political fantasy about friendship, sacrifice, and the fight for survival in a world where greed drives everything and no one can be trusted. If you enjoy complex characters, intricate world-building, and high-stakes intrigue, you'll love this standalone grimdark fantasy.

The Enemy Within: A Dystopian Thriller by Graham Watkins 3.9 Stars (21 Reviews)    Price verified 5 minutes ago

A car crash, an old suitcase and a dark secret leads to a story of arson and murder. Simon Reece's journey through this dystopian crime thriller, searching to find his identity, draws him into a world of lies, danger and murder. This is a world controlled by evil policemen, corrupt politicians and all seeing computers, a world where fiction and science come together, of suspense and action where vulnerable citizens are mere pawns in a terrible experiment. As Simon Reece fights to expose the truth he faces mortal challenges, deadly enemies who will stop at nothing and a state which will do everything in its power to destroy him. Reece's quest is a story of Orwellian madness writ large in the 21st Century. Paul White's review says all; Revelations in the aftermath of a tragedy, lead Simon Reece, cyber-security entrepreneur, to embark on a quest to discover his true identity. This personal catastrophe intersects with national calamity - a fractured country, paralysed by rioting, plagued by terrorist violence, struggling to find its own new identify; a nation highly susceptible to the arguments of a populist movement that offers an apparently surefooted pathway amidst the sinkholes of a collapsing society and body politic. The book's author, Watkins, masterfully taps into the zeitgeist of potentially post-Brexit Britain, immersing the reader in a maelstrom from which the lead character and the country are co-joined in a struggle in which so-called "special relationships" are exposed as ephemeral window-dressings concealing shady goings-on where vested interests are ruthlessly pursued. Watkins takes us on a journey at which every twist and turn leads to revelations that shatter the very foundations of what might be considered normal, both for the individual and for society at large. At the heart of the book lies a fundamental question: in highly volatile times, how much "collateral damage" to our freedom and civil liberties are we prepared to accept in return for ...

Carving My Destiny : Lessons from My Entrepreneurial Ventures by Dr. Kedar Gupta 5.0 Stars (38 Reviews)    Price verified 14 minutes ago

How far can a $1,000 investment take an ambitious entrepreneur? On its own, not very far. With innovation, grit, and an insatiable drive, Dr. Kedar Gupta paved the way for the solar industry and built GT Solar, a global leader in solar power that had over $240 million in revenue when it went public. Promising at least one twist per chapter, the story of Gupta (who arrived in NYC with $5 in his pocket in 1968) reads no less than an edge-of-the-seat thriller for those who intend to pick up this book for their entrepreneurial journey. Gupta honestly recounts his journey, taking readers along the adventures of corporate politics, near-bankruptcy, IPOs, recession, market changes, cross-cultural business ethics, and a surprise visit from the White House. These stories often remain in the minds of protagonists and people closely associated with them, but Kedar Gupta welcomes readers in. It is also an inspiring book and proof that reality is far more thrilling than fiction. He aims to encourage people to take risks, dream big and work towards their own success.

Unfortunately, two soldiers from the other world know what she looks like and want her dead. In the small town of San Luis Obispo, it's only a matter of time before they find her. She might have to fight, whether she wants to or not. Link by Link: Overture to A Christmas Carol by S.R. Buckel Price verified 4 minutes ago

Before he terrorized London's rich and poor alike with his stingy bahs and abusive humbugs, before his astonishing transformation, Scrooge was Ebenezer. What and who curdled the heart of this brilliant, haunted boy? They're all here, everyone you know and love, but lurking behind every shadow and familiar face is a malevolent Enemy, who is ever striving against those Christmas Spirits, working to prevent the life of the child yet to come. This Enemy knows that Ebenezer is key -- that he will grow to either save, or -- if It can turn Ebenezer into the foulest skinflint to ever haunt London's streets -- condemn the child to an ill fate. ('I see a vacant seat in the chimney corner, and a crutch without an owner. If these shadows remain unaltered by the Future, the child will die.') The Enemy strikes early. On the heels of losing his mother, Ebenezer's hard-and-sharp-as-flint father sends him away to Alfriston School for Boys. There he descends into grief, becoming self-contained and employing his fathers' caustic dismissal, BAH! -- all part of his training. Link by link, he begins forging a ponderous chain of his own freewill. From pits of despair to heights of glee; from Fezziwig's Christmas dances and the positive, womanly influences of Fani and Belle to heartache, Ebenezer girds himself with this strong coil. When he meets poverty-hating business phenom Jacob Marley, it grows full and heavy as sin. Following that legendary transformative Christmas Eve, he becomes as good a man and benefactor as Tiny Tim Cratchit could ever ask for -- one whose destiny extends far beyond himself and the narrow limits of his counting house. Witness the inspiring denouement, 180 years in the making!

I Can't Remember Your Name (Amnesia Husband Book 2) by Sally Hull 4.2 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified one hour ago

This second book in the series of Amnesia Husband can stand alone without book #1 or any books that follow. Due to meningitis-induced amnesia, the detective novelist Roy Anderson believes himself to be the pastor of a struggling church in a small town called Corinth--a town in which no one knows him or his wife LeeAnn--a town they are simply visiting for a short time. He believes that he knows everyone, but simply cannot remember their names. He begins assigning names to them, thinking that his memory is returning--but it is not. Since he has been reading in the Book of Revelation, and since the majority of his "false memories" come from things he reads, he believes that the people at this church are in fact the people to whom the letters of Revelation 2:1-3:22 were written. Being quick to recognize their strengths, weaknesses and sins, he simply calls them by such names as: Ephie Sus, Mrs. Sus, and all the little Susses, after the letter to the church at Ephesus. When he runs into legal problems, he calls for help, asking Jake-Patrick (the young man from Book #1 he believes to be his son-in-law) and Butch-Geoffrey (the elderly man from Book #1 he believes to be his father) for help. Through it all, LeeAnn endeavors to be the kind of wife that brings pleasure to the Lord, meditating on Proverbs 31. This is a comical tale that takes a lighthearted look at the serious subject of trouble in church, allowing the reader to enjoy the story, but at the same time give pause for thought concerning the deeper issues of God's people being one in the Lord and serving Him faithfully, turning from sin, and worshiping the Lord both in the worship service and in daily living, even to the point of forgiving one another.

Volume 2 introduces you to Martin Dempsey, a four foot tall high school senior with significant facial deformities. Labeled a freak on his first day of school in the first grade, the school bully threatens to beat up on anyone who "speaks to the freak". Ignored for eleven and a half years, Martin is finally revealed as an actually human being by Johnny Gray, the new boy in school, who befriends Martin and gets to know him as a person. Martin struggles with his desire to be normal and find a way to serve the Lord. He also struggles with his romantic feelings for a certain young lady, feeling that he is hideous in his appearance. Follow Martin as he goes from being a backward nobody to a beloved member of his community and a tremendous servant of God. This Volume 2 concludes with a sit down interview with Leon, the character introduced in Volume 1. Leon is interviewed by the author Paul Johnston Sr. as the writer ...

One of the most difficult and painful experiences in a relationship may be getting over infidelity and forgiving your spouse. However, with time, effort, and dedication on both sides, it is possible to regain trust and mend your relationship. Here are some tried-and-true pointers to assist you with the procedure: 1. Give yourself permission to grieve: Infidelity brings about great suffering and grief, and it's important to express your feelings. Give yourself permission to express your sorrow about the relationship's loss of trust and betrayal. 2. Seek assistance: Speak with friends, family members, or a therapist who may provide a sympathetic ear and direction throughout the healing process. Therapy for both individuals and couples may be helpful in promoting honest dialogue and comprehension. 3. Give yourself enough time to recover: Overcoming infidelity is a process that takes time and perseverance. To perform the required work and allow each other the room to recover independently, both partners must be dedicated to doing so. 4. Honest and open communication: Honest and open communication is the first step in restoring trust. It's important for both partners to be open about their emotions, worries, and concerns. This entails accepting responsibility for the betrayal and responding to any inquiries the wounded spouse may have.5. Demonstrate empathy and compassion: The cheating partner must exhibit sincere sorrow and empathy for the suffering they caused. The devastated spouse wants to be understood, listened to, and valued. 6. Establish limits and new expectations: To stop future infidelity and restore trust, it's important to set up clear boundaries and expectations. This might include granting unrestricted access to communication tools, deciding on reasonable limits for friendships between opposite-sex people, and coming up with a strategy for restoring trust. 7. Be patient throughout the trust-building process. It takes time to forgive and establish trust. As ...

A tale of humanity's deadliest weapon that drives us all to do the unthinkable, written in the blood of its heroes, the scorching sands of the desert, and the fires of war that never leave anyone without scars. And so begins Lucie Peachtree's initiation into all things Darling Island, a place she arrives in with more than a pang of regret. As she feels her way into Darling's quaint ways, a very surprising love interest walks slap bang into her life and suddenly living on Darling looks oh-so-much more on the rosier side. Ink Stains, Volume 3: A Dark Fiction Literary Anthology by Kristi Petersen Schoonover 4.4 Stars (26 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

The past has a horrible habit of haunting us all. Sometimes it surfaces in regret and a lifetime of what ifs. Sometimes, it is horrors made real in other-worldly beings hell-bent on revenge for wrong-doings. Join authors Diane Arrelle, Marc E. Fitch, Andrea Hansell, Ann Liska, Derek Muk, Olga Munroe, Clint Orr, Terry Sanville, Kristi Petersen Schoonover, and K.W. Taylor as they explore the darkest deeds that keep us up at night, the past that cannot be undone, and the heavy chains these ghosts trap us in. This collection of literary tales gives life to ghosts, both real and imaginary, and all the sins of the past that haunt us in the present. From grieving, betrayed lovers to guilt-born demons, those that haunt the characters in these stories crafted by our authors bring pain, heartache, stunning revelations, and a stark reminder that the past will never die. Praise for Ink Stains "Wow! This anthology of Dark Fiction really packs a punch! Ten strong stories without a dud in the bunch. This is my first brush with Dark Alley Press and I sure hope it won't be the last because they are bringing some serious talent to the table. " Brian James Lewis, Hellnotes.com About Ink Stains Ink Stains, a quarterly dark fiction and horror anthology published by Dark Alley Press, is about shining a stark light on the shadows of life, exploring those dimly lit corridors, and unearthing those long-buried secrets. We are about examining the human existence and the human psyche in its raw, delicate, and dangerous state. We don't shy away from controversy, nor do we believe good will always triumph over evil or that someone will always be around to save the day. Sometimes all we have is ourselves. And the stories that keep us turning the page.

Experience drives us to question all that we perceive and the perception of all in this story is never as it seems. The first novel of the three part saga - Our Starlit Façade, sees four characters living through a series of interactions, events and differing ways of coping with all they experience. Understanding each of these characters individually gives a glimpse into how we all impact and exist with each other. Each of the characters experience events of life, love and loss, interchanging situations which are seemingly controlled by something higher than themselves and a final journey beyond the limits of the mind, body and perception. RAFAEL CADENAS Poesía y destino: Prólogo de Freddy Castillo Castellanos (Spanish Edition) by Varios autores 4.6 Stars (20 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

The Most Terrifying Places on Earth: Searching Through the World's Most Horrifying and Scary Locations by Conrad Bauer 3.7 Stars (85 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

Prepare to be frightened... very frightened by these extraordinarily scary places most of us probably never knew existed! The world around us is a scary place. With danger lurking around so many corners, the threats we can explain are often easily quantified and dismissed. Rather, it is the unexplainable, the paranormal and the strange which present the biggest threats to our psychological well-being. All across the planet, certain places and buildings have come to represent these abnormal and unexplainable phenomena. From ghosts to genocides, brutal murders to witches' covens, these locations are both hyper specific and universal. In almost every town, village or city, there is often an area where people are wary. A certain building people say is haunted, or a home they know has a particularly gruesome past. People might warn children to stay away, these buildings might form the backbone of some local folklore, or they might actually be condemned and restricted to the public. In these buildings our imaginations run riot and we wonder what could be possibly be lurking down the long, dank and dark corridors. But not all of these places are created equal. In this book, we will examine some of the most terrifying, strange, bizarre, odd and depressing places on earth. These might be haunted homes or the resting place of a murderous maniac. Some have been created by the evils of modern man while others are tributes to ancient and dark mysteries we still struggle to explain. The one thing they share is their ability to chill you to the bone. But as you work through this list, the true extent of humanity's capacity to imagine the horrific should not be underestimated. When you are ready to learn about some of the worst places in the world, like the island of the doll in Mexico, the Paris catacombs, the Hell fire Club in Ireland, the Ridges in the USA and much more... just read on! Scroll back up and grab your copy today!

No-one Else But You: Six Dialogues on Human Relationship by Paul Dimmock 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 5 hours ago

The war on the military battle-field or in the streets of the foreign city, where it is now usually fought, is no different in kind from the war being waged constantly within the individual human mind. There may be a difference of degree but essentially they are one and the same thing. The individual human mind has amassed a wealth of evidence to support the notion that it is an important separate identity and, put very simply, that sense of being a separate identity is the first step to murder. From the idea of my self comes all the rest of it -- my self-esteem, my values, my family, my tribe, my nation, my culture, my beliefs, my rights, and so forth -- and thus the foundations are laid from which one views the whole of the world. One may view that world positively or negatively, or sentimentally or coldly, depending upon the nature of the personal foundation; but whichever way one views the world, it is a personal viewpoint born out of all the accumulated memories and interpretations of one's own experiences and responses both good and bad. This notion of individuality is bound to bring about conflict with others, conflict in varying degrees and with varying forms, from our minor domestic disputes to the full-blown military campaign. If we don't transform society -- which is equally where we work or where we live -- then who will do it? Who will transform society? Who or what will bring about the end of our conflicts both internal and external? Or is conflict the eternal human condition and nothing will change it? The great organised efforts of the past have all failed whether those efforts have been made in the religious, in the political or in the philosophical arena. They have all failed. Man is still fighting man, still hiding in his own corner of the world trying to stay safe, still self-protective and defensive, perhaps angry at some things, guilty about some things, fearful about some things, puzzled about some things. That is the life of man, generally. ...

How to Serve the Lord with Confidence and Enthusiasm by James Thomas Lee Jr Price verified 5 hours ago

This text has been written in response to a question that I was asked at a Wednesday night Bible study at Wallers Baptist Church in Partlow, Virginia. The question which had been asked by the church's pastor had been in regard to the obvious enthusiasm that some of the saints of God seem to have for the Lord's work. The study that evening had been in Acts 13:13 which talks about the Apostle Paul's first Bible-recorded missionary journey. It says, "Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem." So when the company had arrived in Perga, the above verse says that John Mark had returned to Jerusalem. Exactly why he might have gone back is not known for certain. He might have been too afraid to continue since there had already been some opposition to the message that Paul and the others had tried to deliver. He might have felt the Lord leading him home at that particular moment. But the real question that had been posed by the pastor had been why the others had continued the journey since their task had obviously been so dangerous. In answering that question, the model about which this text has been written was developed. The quick answer to the pastor's question is that Paul and his company had had a general desire to do what the Lord had wanted them to do. When they had understood exactly what He had wanted them to do, their general desire had become a specific desire. Then when what the Lord had wanted them to do had been an exact match to their spiritual gifts, their desire had been raised to an even higher level. They had no longer just been doing church work. At that point, they had been serving the Lord with confidence and enthusiasm. Thus, this text has been written to explain how that can occur for any saint of God. The conclusion is that it is possible to not just do work for the Lord. But it is actually possible to serve Him with confidence and enthusiasm. The ...
