Suddenly as a teenager, girls were throwing themselves at me. Call it puberty or clear disinterest in them that left most pining for me. Surprisingly they seemed fine with it. Why Are You Here?: The Spiritual Reality that Reveals Your Purpose in Life. by Ian Todd 4.1 Stars (62 Reviews)    Price verified 32 minutes ago

Have you ever wondered what life's all about? Why you are here? An answer may depend on how you look at the world... and what lies beyond it. This book addresses these questions by sampling the recent explosion of evidence that points to a spiritual reality - revealing both our present purpose and our future destiny. Many people believe that there is nothing 'real' other than the world in which we live. If this belief were correct, then our lives have no ultimate purpose: it would mean that death marks the end of everything for each one of us. But what if this belief is wrong? What if your mind will survive the death of your body and enter another dimension of reality - a Spiritual Dimension? You might then reasonably ask "Where's the evidence?" Indeed, when the well-known philosopher and atheist Bertrand Russell was asked what he would say if, after his death, he found himself face-to-face with God, Russell replied, "Not enough evidence, God, not enough evidence." This book presents evidence that might have persuaded even Bertrand Russell that he was wrong. This includes evidence that our conscious minds can function independently of our physical brains, as observed in verified cases of paradoxical lucidity and out-of-body experiences. In addition, each year many thousands of people provide personal testimony of experiencing a 'spiritual dimension' and meeting a 'higher spiritual power' when they undergo 'Near-Death Experiences' (NDEs) during life-threatening events. Many of those who've undergone NDEs testify to what they've learnt through their experiences about the ultimate purpose of life, and how this confirms what religious people have been saying for thousands of years.

What will companies do when they can read your actual mind? How far will they go to get your click? How much engagement? This is how cyberpunk starts. Ed's in a bind. He's tried everything to keep the North Pacific Seastead afloat financially. Losses mount, except for the datacenter cooled by the Pacific. Life's good on her residential condominium complex offshore of San Francisco. Her secretive mental-health startup, WellSpring, has passed all hurdles with the Department of Veterans Affairs to treat PTSD using a brain-machine interface. The Privateer by Gordon Daviot 4.4 Stars (47 Reviews)    Price verified 32 minutes ago

In the sweeping historical epic 'The Privateer,' Gordon Daviot (pseudonym of famous Josephine Tey) pens the life and triumphs of Henry Morgan, a Welsh pirate turned hero, within the rich tapestry of 17th-century Caribbean conflicts. The narrative, characterized by its sharp detail and engagement with themes of freedom, ambition, and the tides of colonial power struggles, follows Morgan from his ignominious beginnings as an enslaved man in Barbados to his remarkable rise as the Lieutenant-Governor of Jamaica. Through the lens of Morgan's capture of a Spanish ship, Tey demonstrates a deep understanding of the era's social and political intricacies, making the novel an exemplary piece of historical fiction with a literary style that brings this perilous period of piracy and war vividly to life. The author, known for rigorously researched historical narratives, seems to have drawn from a deep well of historical knowledge and fascination with the Caribbean colonial power dynamics. The portrayal of Henry Morgan is possibly reflective of a keen interest in the paradoxes of piracy -- often deemed a lawless enterprise, yet in Morgan's case, one that led to legal authority and respectability. Daviot's background, potentially steeped in history and literature, positions him to construct a protagonist who is as complex as he is charismatic, bridging the gulf between outlaw and official with nuanced storytelling. Josephine Tey wrote this novel under her pseudonym, Gordon Daviot. This was last book, a romantic novel based on the life of the privateer Henry Morgan.

I'd been doing fine on my own for the last flibbertyfloppin' thirty-ish years. Okay, maybe fine was a smidgen of an exaggeration, but I was hiding, goshdangdiddlygorse. Mercenary and operative work wasn't for me anymore, and as far as the Divine Triad was concerned, they could get someone else to be their Watchdog for all the Supernaturals in the world. I'd been doing it for at least a millenia and a half. This most recent half had nearly broken my brain, and definitely busted my heart. So that was it. This Nephilim was deuceddingleberrieddoggone done. Or so I'd thought. Half-Human and half-Celestial, Nemo Dade gets reborn into new personas: same soul, same body (mostly), new problems. Her last persona worked as an agent for MI-6. She'd buried a lot of friends and colleagues, so no more. Then an international team of operatives captures Nemo. They leverage her past, forcing her to help them stop an arms dealer who's broken into human trafficking. This criminal has someone more than human on the payroll, which means they need her to even the odds. Everything in her screams for Nemo to walk away. It isn't her fight. That had been the plan until a love she'd thought dead demands for her to do what she'd been doing for centuries-her job. Why does doing the right thing have to be such a hard choice?

Dreams (Big Bands, Big Hearts Book 1) by Sandra Alex 4.1 Stars (59 Reviews)    Price verified 32 minutes ago

She's a hot mess. Success lives in his back pocket. The stage calls to them, until a twisted fan tries to seal their fate... using nine words. Five days ago, I couldn't stand Jett. He's a world-renowned guitarist in a hit band, and I'm a washed-up sex symbol vocalist in a band that's seen its glory. Five days ago, something changed. I was given an ultimatum that I'm not sure I can live up to. The world of rock and roll is a cruel place. It's a world where I can only be sure of one thing, and that one thing is what is ruining me. Jett sees right through me. And as much as I hate him, he keeps coming around. Until he disappears back to the stage. But does he really leave me? I find Roxy in the back room, kicking my most prized amp. Sure, it's held together with duct tape, but it plays better than anything else. She sneers and pokes at me, until she realizes that I have the one thing that she's lost. I'd help her get it back if she'd lose the chip on her shoulder. Then I find out what's eating her, and I see her in a different light. There's more to Roxy than meets the eye. Her bandmates see it. That's why they stick around. But will the world see it... and more important, will they see it before it's too late? Rock star romance Hate to love romance Drug and alcohol use Medium heat Smoking Swearing Cliffhanger ending

Marseille, March 1941 Four years have passed since Tom Lancaster returned to Europe and he is now living a double life as Alphonse Prideux, an unremarkable church maintenance man, in the unoccupied zone of France. Together with Emilie, his married girlfriend, and her sister, he forms part of a local resistance network that prints anti-fascist newspapers and helps some of the thousands of refugees that have flooded Marseille since the invasion. One night, at a night-club where Emilie is singing, he is approached by a man from the French secret service and blackmailed into killing a German agent. To give his network a chance to disappear, he agrees, but events take a strange turn, and before long, he is forced to flee the country together with a woman he doesn't know. Meanwhile, in Paris, Emilie, a famous singer, puts her faith in her abusive husband and manager, Gerard. Reluctantly she spends her time entertaining the occupying Germans, both for her career and for the chance to get some useful information. With most of her friends having left Paris as the Germans came marching in, she feels alone and vulnerable and longs for the days when she sang in smaller clubs, to people that mattered to her. With a Paris unaware of where her loyalties lie, she becomes a target for citizens believing her to be a collaborator. Her husband sees the Nazis as a great business opportunity, and in the end, will he be the one who betrays her? What none of them realise, is that they are all playing their parts in a game. A game controlled by the Germans, a game that could win the war and lose them their lives.

End of a Girl (Folio 55 Book 1) by Nia Sinjorina 4.2 Stars (16 Reviews)    Price verified 9 hours ago

"Now I lie in a chamber deep underground, as safe from the monsters and their masters, the creatures and their crimes, as I can be; not knowing whether I'll see the sky, or what remains of it ever again. As I forget everything but the task, as the All fills me, refreshes me, steadies me, and removes me, I drink my fill from the flow of the Web and share the sensations of my companions who have yet to abandon the surface.""Somewhere far above, the universe has gone mad. The beautiful mother that is the moon has started to burn. The forever father that is the sun appears to be dimming, a dark spot growing bigger and blacker against its golden skin. Fiery rocks have begun to fall from the heavens, to punch through the air and pummel the land below, the place where we and what remains of all life does live. It is all I can do, in consumption of these crimes, to keep water from my eyes and despair from my heart."So are written the words of the Narrator, shared and transcribed for the Folion, on the 28th of November, 2020. DEBUNKING HOLOCAUST DENIAL THEORIES: Two Non-Jews Affirm the Historicity of the Nazi Genocide by James Morcan (Sterling Gate Books) 4.0 Stars (86 Reviews)    Price verified 9 hours ago

DEBUNKING HOLOCAUST DENIAL THEORIES: Two Non-Jews Affirm the Historicity of the Nazi Genocide, by independent researchers and filmmakers James Morcan & Lance Morcan with a foreword by Holocaust survivor Hetty E. Verolme (author of The Children's House of Belsen), aims to end the denial once and for all by tackling the bizarre phenomenon head-on. Written in close consultation with Holocaust survivors and World War Two historians, no stone is left unturned in meticulously verifying the historical facts of the genocide. The Morcans present a wide array of sources including Nazi documentation, eyewitness accounts, scientific reports and shocking photographic evidence to shut down the debate deniers wish to create. One by one, the various arguments Holocaust deniers use to try to discredit wartime records are carefully scrutinized and then systematically disproven. Theories debunked include: the six million death toll figure being an exaggeration; gas chamber exterminations being fictitious; Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich being wrongly vilified; the analysis of Holocaust records being a taboo due to specific laws in Europe criminalizing deniers; "Evil Zionists" and Israel being so powerful that they can censor history. The Holocaust is shown in this book's pages to be one of the most well-documented and most historically and forensically-proven crimes of the 20th Century. In the process, many of the world's most infamous deniers, including disgraced British historian David Irving and the former President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, are revealed to be nothing but anti-Semites seeking to further denigrate, undermine and demoralize the world's Jewish population. In this enlightening read that covers more than two millennia of global history, anti-Semitism is shown not only to be the root cause of every form of Holocaust denial, but also the reason for the relentless persecution of the Jews since Biblical times. The authors quote verbatim the often sickening ...

Ella's Journey by June Harwood-Brown 4.5 Stars (236 Reviews)    Price verified 9 hours ago

Ella Warrington, a lively, fiery-spirited ten year-old cockney girl who lives in Lambeth in the East end of London is left orphaned when her mother, Esther, dies shortly after the end of World War Two, having lost a bravely fought battle with cancer. The only person Ella believes she has left in the world is her beloved neighbour, Eric Donnelly, a school teacher who has been like a father to her since she was two years old. Eric Donnelly believes that he will automatically become Ella's guardian. However, two strangers attend her mother's funeral; the dour Harriet Rudge, who claims to be her Mother's cousin, and her corpulent husband Ronald Rudge. With a letter from the court confirming their legal guardianship of Ella, and despite her pleading to stay with her neighbour, they take her away from everything she knows and holds dear to live with them in their sprawling house, Yew Tree Manor, on the Romney Marsh in Kent, leaving Eric Donnelly feeling bereft and anguished over Ella's heartbreaking departure. It is immediately apparent that the Rudges are despicable characters and their intentions truly reprehensible when, having put Ella in the neglected attic room, originally the servants' quarters, damp and freezing in the Arctic conditions of the harshest winter in over a century, she quickly becomes subjected to their 'disciplines'. Facing extreme adversity and battling all the odds, Ella embarks on a treacherous journey to return to her home and her beloved Mr Donnelly.

Quanology: Evolution & You by John Khoury 4.2 Stars (9 Reviews)    Price verified 9 hours ago

See the world around you in a whole new way with John Khoury's thought-provoking new book, Quanology. A unified theory of human living, the concept of Quanology represents the next evolutionary step in achieving what humans would consider "the good life." And while it's currently popular to view nature and technology as two fundamentally opposed concepts, Quanology approaches each as complementary to the other. So what does this mean for you and your life? It means that applying the principles of Quanology to your life can dramatically increase your sense of purpose, well-being, and fulfillment. Based on the idea of evolution and natural selection, which Khoury proves still rules over us today, Quanology emphasizes the idea that nature is not a force separate from us. Humans are nature, so when we choose to study and embrace it, we are actually studying and embracing our own selves. This key insight is the starting point from which we can learn to live better, more realized lives. Khoury manages to take a technical, sometimes heavy subject and present it in a light and approachable manner that will leave readers with a renewed sense of purpose as they tackle life's challenges.

Beyond The Shrouded Mountain: Our Choice is between Good and Evil - Which will you choose? by Carl Snyder 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 9 hours ago

In Deuteronomy 30:11-19, the bible quotes God as saying, "Surely, this commandment that I am commanding you today is not too hard for you, nor is it too far away... I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God... then you shall live and become numerous, and the Lord your God will bless you. But if your heart turns away and you do not hear... and you bow down to other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you shall perish... I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live... " As we go through life we are faced with choices to make. Those choices become our responsibility to God. He gave us freedom of choice and we are held accountable for those choices in either this life or after-life. If you believe that after our time on earth has ended that we may have a last chance so-to-speak, to reconcile our bad choices, then 'Beyond The Shrouded Mountain' will give you a look at a possibility that may be presented. The author wrote this book in 1980 but it was never published. His son YoHanan, a writer in his own right, dusted off the old 500 page manuscript that had been typed on an old Royal typewriter, and he restored it. Very, very, little was changed except for adding a preface and an additional chapter to include some of the details of YoHanan's own story about a 40-Day fast he completed where God referred to his fathers book 'Beyond the Shrouded Mountain' as a part of his journey. 'Beyond the Shrouded Mountain' is a story of the consequences of choices we make in regard to good and evil. God has given us a rulebook to follow and when we choose to follow our own way instead of His, the day will come when we must make amends. Follow a story of a man and his father who try desperately to help the poor souls who have lost and still looking for their way. Full of mystery, humor and a vivid imagination, you will certainly ...

Until Death: Raven's Duet: A Paranormal, Reverse Harem, Bully Romance (Daughter of the Eighth Book 1) by Ashley Amy 4.5 Stars (249 Reviews)    Price verified 10 hours ago

Note from author: All main characters are over eighteen. Book Summary I am Death... or more like I will be. Being trained to take over for the Horseman hasn't come easy. It didn't help I had the world's most overprotective father that babied me. Starting a new school while hiding who I am won't help my case, but at least I get to show my worth. The series of events that come my way change the game of things. Instead of just competing to see who can stand at my side, I've found myself in the chaos of a storm I didn't see coming. Someone in this school knows. They know the things that can ruin me. I have to stop them before it's too late. But this time, my sisters aren't here to have my back. I'm just one Horsemen that doesn't have her generals yet. WARNING: Readers should be advised that this contains bully themes, sexual content, and physical abuse. Do not read if such triggers bother you.

Black-Eyed Nick: An Historical Murder Mystery (Agatha Aston Book 1) by Jack Murray 4.5 Stars (613 Reviews)    Price verified 11 hours ago

Black-eyed Nick played a trick, and poor old Fred, lost his head It's 1876 and a dead body is found near the mansion of Lady Agatha Aston in Grosvenor Square, London. The newly formed Detective Branch at Scotland Yard is baffled by the series of grisly murders that seem to come straight from the pages of a 'penny dreadful'. Who is the demon stalking the streets of London? Lady Agatha takes matters in hand, ably supported by golf fanatic friend, Betty Stevens, former school hockey captain, 'Sausage' Gossage and Talleyrand, her unlucky-in-love Basset hound. The first Agatha Aston murder mystery is full of laughs, twists and truly abysmal verse. Perfect for fans of Agatha Christie and historical mysteries featuring real life detectives from the period: Jack Whicher, 'Paddington' Pollaky and Dolly Williamson. What reviewers are saying about Jack Murray's Kit Aston series: "... well written with very appealing characters, good plots and just a nice touch of romance. Very little overt violence and no sex." "A delightful return to the 'golden age' mysteries: gallantry displayed, love interest satisfied, red herrings all round... " ''Sly humour contrasted with thoughtful insights... " No graphic violence. No cliff hanger ending. This is a clean read with no swearing or sex.

It's Dark in Wenlock by Bill Stenlake 4.0 Stars (87 Reviews)    Price verified 11 hours ago

It's Dark in Wenlock. I have been out at night in Wenlock before, of course I have. It is just that I haven't been out that late, walking home in complete darkness. They turn off the street lights overnight. That made the difference, as I walked home last night. I'd got a call for help about 10 o'clock, but by the time everything was sorted it was about 3 o'clock before I was ready to walk home. I walked down the lane by the Pottery and turned onto Sheinton Street. At the Bull Ring I crossed over the road and started walking up past the church. I heard a noise to my left. I can't explain what sort of noise exactly, but it was like a swooshing noise. I stopped and turned. I felt my heartrate go up a few notches. I could just make out the outline of the nearest gravestones. I could also make out the shape of the big tree beyond that. That was about the extent of my view. Then she appeared from the doorway of the church and walked along the path and away from me. She must have been hiding in the doorway as I approached. The whoosh, I took to be her movement. She had a long cloak on, as far as I could make out. Beyond the gravestones, she just blended into the rest of the darkness. I did call out to her, but she didn't slow down and she didn't respond. That was my first encounter with her. Later that morning I saw activity down the town. When I enquired what was going on, I found out that a body had been discovered in a house near to the corner of Sheinton Street. A passer-by had found the front door open and ventured in. What they found was not a pretty sight. I felt I should mention that I had been walking past there in the night. I also feel I should tell about the figure I saw running away from the entrance to the church, less than 50 metres away. I am interviewed by a detective and that is that. But it isn't. About lunchtime I have been in the town again. I am on my way home when a car stops beside me. It is the detective. 'We need to have another talk to ...
