Lung cancer (metastatic) : A survival guide for patients by Dr. Bhratri Bhushan 3.9 Stars (7 Reviews)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers, it is also the leading cause of cancer related mortality. With the advent of new diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, the management landscape of metastatic lung cancer has dramatically changed, especially so in the past decade. In this book, together we will explore the subject of metastatic lung cancer. This will help you understand the disease better. It is overwhelming to know that either you or your loved one has been diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer and it may sound unrealistic that at this trying time you should pick up a book and understand the disease biology and management strategies but believe me, it is important. Today all of the decision making in medicine, especially in oncology, is "shared" decision making. What it means is that the team treating you is just one part of the decision making process, the other part is you and your family. An informed decision is a good decision and to make an informed decision, you must have reasonably enough knowledge of the subject. The goal of this book is in no way to be an all encompassing, comprehensive reference for all of your questions; but to provide you all of the useful information, without unnecessarily burdening you with confusing facts and figures. I have constructed this book in an interactive format, i.e., questions and answers. Most of these question I have picked up by my daily encounters with patients and their families and some I have constructed myself to bridge the gaps between the topics. I hope you will find this book helpful. I wish you and your loved ones long, healthy and prosperous lives. If you have any queries or suggestions, please contact me at bhratri@gmail.com

Tears of Love, Smiles of Indifference: Soulful poetry to smile at life's struggles with (JB POETRY) by John Bowie 3.8 Stars (9 Reviews)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

'In the style of styles of Ted Hughes, Sylvia Plath, Charles Bukowski and Rupi Kaur, John Bowie's third poetry collection is a celebration of love, life and inescapable death.' Soulful poetry to smile at life's struggles with. INTRODUCTION Life's no more black and white than we are one thing or the other. The boxes we're put in by our upbringing, schooling and society aren't us. Despite what we're told we should feel and be. We can often get so sad we smile, and so happy we cry purely at the absurdity of our existence altogether. We are complex beings with a broad spectrum of beautifully contradictory and surreal thoughts and echoes. Here are some poetic glimpses of some of Bowie's, those witnessed, and just maybe some of yours too. ... 'Fleeting breath, evanescence, demise. A celebration of love, life and inescapable death filled with uneasy wins and joyful defeats. Life's long battle seems short, only when there's someone to fight for other than ourselves. Arm in arm we bleed and dance through storms, smile at pain and rejoice in our temporal forms.'

Yeast Recipes & Cornbread Recipes : Boxed Sets by Montego Bay Publishing 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

Baking yeast products and cornbread are two distinct but beloved facets of culinary tradition. Yeast products, such as bread and rolls, rely on the fermentation process where yeast converts sugars into carbon dioxide and alcohol, causing the dough to rise and develop a fluffy texture and rich flavor. The process requires precise timing and temperature control to ensure the yeast activates properly and the dough achieves the desired consistency. In contrast, cornbread is a quick bread typically leavened with baking powder or baking soda instead of yeast. Made primarily from cornmeal, cornbread has a dense, crumbly texture and a slightly sweet, earthy flavor. It's a staple in Southern cuisine and is often enjoyed alongside hearty dishes like chili or barbecue. While both baking yeast products and cornbread involve baking, the techniques and ingredients highlight the diversity within the art of baking.

The Second Sun: Volumes I & II by Kristof Morrow 4.5 Stars (30 Reviews)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

The plot of The Second Sun is an allegory for the financial inequality between the older and younger generations. There's an island paradise where there's elders living a second life after retiring from their human forms, and live amongst their chosen few, who also live for thousands of years in relative peace. However, only those welcome can actually approach the island and survive. Everyone else on earth is made to endure a game of thrones type world, except I omitted much of the overt cruelty you find in that series. I also forgo the notions of racism and sexism. l wanted to adopt the spirit of Tolkien, but expand that virtue of "anyone, no matter how small, can achieve great things," to every kind of human so it feels to be an adventure for everyone! I was diagnosed with Tourette's when I was 27, and so it's developed my understanding of the theft of agency and being marginalized for something I cannot control. It's also structured similarly to game of thrones, in that the first three chapters are different parts of the world with different characters, and you learn how they are related as the story progresses. The Second Sun is, above all things, an adventure made animate by hundreds of distinct characters across half a world, written to confess through prose and tale our tendencies poisoned by Dickensian bleakness, and to wholly ameliorate that cynicism by the light and courage of those who live and labor for a just peace.

The Year of Eric's Hat by Peter Sykes 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

Meet Eric. Eric is a teenager. He has a disability and struggles with walking and speaking. But Eric has a very special gift. And a hat. Unbeknownst to his schoolmates and even to his family, Eric is both savant and sage. But Eric is better known for his crutches, awkward speech and his battered green top hat. His premature wisdom and burgeoning writing talent finally get showcased in his increasingly popular but anonymously-written column in the school gazette. Eric's simple musings on secular ethics and how to be happy are aimed at his fellow adolescents who, like Eric, are struggling with the universal challenges of impending adulthood and caught in the grips of a drug-fuelled gang war and a rapidly-escalating arms race. Try as he may, hat or no hat, Eric's journalistic efforts will not be enough to arrest the build-up of animosity nor halt another tragic school shooting. Only the untimely and violent deaths of two students will have the power to reunite a fractured academy and its supporting communities. Only then will Eric's enlightened suggestions be truly heeded: and his hat properly appreciated. A gripping and highly accessible work of contemporary inspirational fiction, 'The Year of Eric's Hat' combines a page-turning narrative with some age-old and practical guidance - on how we can all meet head-on the myriad of adult human problems without losing touch with our more childlike, better and happier selves. 'The Year of Eric's Hat' combines seamlessly the suspense of Lionel Shriver's 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' with the accessibility and wisdom of 'The Art of Happiness,' by HH The Dalai Lama and Howard C. Cutler. Peter Sykes has so far written and published three novels (Flying Babies, Sunday with the Devil, and The Happiness of Pyot). 'The Year of Eric's Hat' is Pete's fourth work of literary fiction. Pete was brought up in Africa and the Caribbean, lives in Spain and currently works, part-time and across the globe, as a Humanitarian Consultant. Pete ...

Left on Paradise by Kirk Adams 4.2 Stars (20 Reviews)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

Before Portland, there was Paradise. Following the stolen presidential election of 2000, 102 intrepid progressives, led by self-absorbed Hollywood star Ryan Godson and his kind-hearted wife Kit Fairchild, make good on their threat to abandon a corrupted society still under the spell of Puritan fanatics, Yankee traders, and southern slavers. Now, a new society will be founded: a new country among the nations. This will be a land in which feminists, liberals, environmentalists, multiculturalists, pacifists, socialists, communists, communitarians, and progressives of every persuasion will remain unthwarted by the opposition and oppression of Republicans, social conservatives, and constitutionalists. Left on Paradise is a sweeping epic about a band of idealists who have forsaken family and friend to build a perfect word on a remote island in the south Pacific. From the thrill of first hope to the brink of deadly catastrophe, Kirk Adams relentlessly puts the band of idealists in a world in which they can live out the iron logic of their beliefs and dreams -- unencumbered by conservative resistance or religious restraint. Yet, they bring to Paradise the moral limits of their own ideals and character and soon find that they themselves have brought evil to their Eden. With riveting twists and turns in the plot that mirror contemporary (and historical) American political experience, the author shares political fiction that speaks to the cultural questions and divisions that contemporary Americans face, even as he offers a vision of what must not be sought. It's May 2001 and the band of political pilgrims have sailed to a remote island in the Pacific to found a new country: a true State of Paradise. Numbering the same as the settlers of Plymouth and Jamestown, the idealists have marched straight out of the 1960s to build the Great Society suspended by Nixon, Reagan, and the Bush family. These pilgrims will show the world what it means to be Left on Paradise -- or so they ...

Authenticity - A Memoir & A Paradigm Shift - It’s Time to Go Legit: Excellence & Coolness Decoded by Christopher Brian Fello 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 41 minutes ago

Deep inside, you know something. You know that something is holding you back. Now imagine being your best self on your best day. You are about to learn how to step into that mode. (This will happen. Please do send me an email when you "get it".) This book is counterintuitive. And if you know a thing or two about counterintuitive stuff, you know that THEY WORK. - The human condition is universal. It means that each of us experiences it. In this book, I fully discuss it from my viewpoint and reference experiences. I also offer a subtle but simple solution to the human condition. There are certain events in our lives that change our perspective. Some events change it lightly, but on the other hand, a few of them changes us fundamentally, on the deepest levels. These are what we call Paradigm Shifts. My diverse collection of experiences has netted me many of these perspective altering shifts. Three of them were ultimately fundamental and has changed how I think, behave and achieve forever. I wrote about all of them, the minor but sharp as well as the major and powerful ones. My aim is for you to see it too. Hence the cover of my book is like putting on a pair of electrically charged pilot shades. That's exactly what this book is. While and after reading this book, YOU WILL FEEL DIFFERENT. Like crackling isotope good. Remember that one great day in your life when everything just clicked? You'll find it again. And you'll learn to hold it--Once you learn that, it's time to become who you're meant to be. From the moment you were born to right now, you have arrived at this moment. Cue music: Born Ready-Zayde Wolf -- In this book, you will learn how to fundamentally shift your perspective and fill in the missing elements to: • Finally Stop Caring About What Other People Think • Activate Your True Confidence • Achieve The Flow State • Unleash Your Individuality • Uncover Your True Self • Transcend The Ego • Banish Negativity • Learn to ...

Two roommates. One calculus exam. A whole lot of extracurricular activity. Living with four other guys, it's bound to happen. Every guy's been caught taking care of business at least once, right? It shouldn't be a big deal. But I don't know Eric as well as my other roommates, and things are a little awkward now. He's a loner. A mystery. Quietly confident. Smart. Sexy as hell. I've been happily subsisting on the typical frat guy diet of booze and sorority girls. But the way Eric looked at me that night? There was something there. Something that's got me curious. Something that's stirring up feelings I thought I'd left behind for good. Something that's making me think I'm not as straight as I thought I was. I can't get him off of my mind. I don't think I want to. So when he offers to help me study for a midterm, I take him up on it. It's innocent. Probably. Maybe. There's no way I could've known what it'd start... Want Meis a steamy new adult/college roommates-to-lovers gay awakening romance that unfolds across six episodes following Nate and Eric. Now bundled up in one collection with a bonus episode for a seamless reading experience. It's book one in the Extracurricular Activities series.

This is the romantic office comedy that human resources warned you about. What if the smartest guy and the most beautiful girl at the office formed an alliance to help each other get promoted? Florida resident Rebecca Blake works as an assistant to a group of psychologists. She is strikingly beautiful and athletic. People see her as a nice, likable girl who is fine in her role but who could never really aspire to more at the company. As part of her career development plan, she is sent to a behavioral training course (nicknamed 'Club Detention') at company headquarters in Virginia. In error, she is partnered with Foster Diamond, who has the highest intelligence scores in the company. Even though he is a genius, Foster has his own issues around interpersonal skills, attitude and his perception overall. Rebecca and Foster have nothing in common, but between his weakness for her beauty and her admiration of his intellect, they forge an unlikely bond. A Detective at Death's Door (The DCI Harriet Martens series Book 5) by H. R. F. Keating 3.8 Stars (166 Reviews)    Price verified 20 minutes ago

In her most personal case yet, Harriet Martens finds herself in grave danger from a deft and cunning poisoner. Relaxing with her husband by the pool one hot August Bank Holiday, Harriet doesn't expect the refreshing glass at her side to conceal a deadly drug. When she awakes from a doze, she is no longer by the water, but in a hospital bed recovering from a near-fatal dose of aconitine. As Harriet makes a slow recovery, she tries to come to terms with the fact that someone wanted to kill her. But no sooner has she mustered enough energy to begin finding the person responsible, than the poisoner strikes again. And this time, he's successful... A Detective at Death's Door is the fifth book in HRF Keating's popular Harriet Martens/Hard Detective series but works well as a stand-alone novel. It's a great choice for fans of 'golden age' British crime novels. Praise for A Detective at Death's Door: 'This is a really enjoyable series, and this was probably my favourite of the ones I've read so far. As I've mentioned about the other books, one of the great features in how it's written is the contrast between the third person perspective of the 'tough' ?Hard Detective' Harriet Martens contrasted with her inner thoughts. It lends such depth to her character & also shows her vulnerability. These books are quite Agatha Christie-ish in tone, though still very modern.' - Goodreads review Henry Reymond Fitzwalter Keating (1926-2011) was an English author known primarily for his crime fiction, although he also wrote several non-crime novels and reference books, and spent many years as critic of crime fiction for The Times.
