Walter's Suitcase by Sheryl Coley 4.2 Stars (24 Reviews)    Price verified 3 minutes ago

Fans of RUTH WARE, GILLIAN FLYNN, and PAULA HAWKINS will love this exciting debut novel filled with psychological suspense and dark complex characters. This is a page-turner that you won't want to put down. "So many intense plot twists that will keep you guessing right up to the last few pages. I didn't want this book to end. Hope to see this on the big screen soon." review by B. Lew A thirty-year-old letter that had never been sent. A long-forgotten murder that had never been solved. Enigmatic strangers who are not what they seem. The past and present collide on the Island of Euphoria when Sunny McQueen arrives in search of answers. Sunny McQueen is a recent college graduate of the late Eighties. She knows very little about her biological family. She finds herself not quite ready to settle down to the perfect life that her adoptive mother has planned out for her. At least not until she learns more about her own history. Walter Fender was a hotel man of the Fifties. He lived a glamourous life of excesses as he catered to the rich and famous in the Caribbean. But his lifestyle only covered up the regret and heartache that he kept a closely guarded secret. He's related to Sunny, but he died before she was even born. Sunny becomes convinced that if she can uncover the truth of Walter's past, she will discover her future path and a way to move forward. But her search only seems to bring her more and more questions. Her journey leads her into a tangled web of secrets that reach back to the Fifties, when her great uncle roamed the Island of Euphoria. There she meets the charming Brooks Laughton, and brooding Carter Davis, two men who despise each other and always seem to be getting in her way. Brooks is the local celebrity who made the big time and moved away. Carter lives a quiet existence, trying to forget about Brooks and their shared past. Why is someone trying to keep Sunny from getting at the truth? How far will she have to go to find the answers ...

Diamonds in the Rough Chapter 17: Fantasy Golf Safari of 1939 by Scott F Neve 3.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 minutes ago

* Historic Action Adventure Satire Short Story ! This chapter from my upcoming epic novel features the greatest men and women players from the Golden Age of Golf on a world tour of the most fantastic holes ever imagined! It is an exotic blend of Indiana Jones action and pulp fiction adventure laced with mystery and romance. Chapter 17 Diamonds in the Rough Cape Town, South Africa Hole 16 The Score Keepers came to the forefront of the tiny grandstand erected for the occasion. Lexi waved at the gallery, while Dixie blew kisses. Each lady instinctively knew the oil that they were throwing on the British social fires. Lexi shouted with authority, "Welcome to the16th hole of the world golf tour. It is 306 yards and a Par 3. There is only one path to success here. You must put your faith in the old maxim that all shots break toward the water. Bear that in mind and then your score might not result in disaster." Dixie reveled in the attention as she yelled with her angelic sing song voice, "The South African Country Club's best hole is the world's biggest and longest sand trap. The tee is grassy and the green is too. But the one hundred foot wide fairway is a mile long stretch of golden shoreline. One more thing has been brought to my attention. There have been snake sightings on the shore this morning. So beware if you see a stick moving across the sand toward you. It will probably be a cobra."

A GENTLE PUSH by RICHARD RIDPATH 3.5 Stars (3 Reviews)    Price verified 24 minutes ago

John Reston is a thirty-seven year old IT professional whose father, Jack, had passed away a year earlier. Jack, an Army veteran, had lost his leg in Viet Nam but his spirit was as robust as ever throughout his life. Jack Reston had a personality that could fill a room. John, not so much. Jack always had advice and guidance for John through the years. Sometimes John would even follow that guidance. John was previously divorced, and now suddenly he was unattached. At least that's what his girlfriend just informed him as such. John was rudderless, in a boat that leaked. Then one night, John stepped through a door that led him into a portal of distorted time and place. John was quickly confronted with events that would both confuse and amaze him. Events that would change his life forever. This book is dedicated to my father, Charles Ridpath, a Marine who lost a leg fighting for his country in Iwo Jima. Yet he never lost his love of life and his family.

One Page at a Time: Daily Spiritual Growth in Recovery by Paul Kocak 4.5 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 38 minutes ago

The slogan "Turn It Over" has a rich and powerful history in the annals of recovery. Loosely translated -- if any translating is needed -- it means: put your problem, addiction, disease, or life itself in the hands of Someone or Something Other Than Yourself. (Lowercase all of that if you prefer.) This someone or something doesn't require a name. It doesn't need a credo or a belief system. All it needs is practice. Your practice. Now take the concept of Turn It Over, and transfer it to the printed page. Turn It Over becomes Turn the Page. Select any page at random here and read the brief commentary. Consider the concept or notion as food for thought -- and action. Or use a page each week in a group setting. The possibilities are endless. This compilation is not for everyone. Some in the recovery community will object, declaring, "I have all I need in the approved literature." We have no quibble with that view. These pages draw upon received wisdom acquired by thousands of recovering people over the course of many decades. The notions expressed here are merely suggestions and make no claim to being original in their musings. They reflect a perspective that invites others to craft their own vantage point or angle of vision. They are a supplement rather than a substitute; discursive rather than subversive. You are invited to add this book to your spiritual toolkit.

Killian (New York Vulcans Book 3) by Teagan Kade 4.3 Stars (140 Reviews)    Price verified 48 minutes ago

Beautifully, wonderfully, toe-curlingly complex. That's Killian O'Sullivan - running back for the New York Vulcans complete with lucky green jockstrap and an appetite for trouble. A smart woman would steer well clear, but I've decided to head right for the pretty blue eyes of the storm. I find him one night half-naked in an alleyway (long story) short on pants but definitely not short on something else. Helping a stranger in need is one thing, but dating a Vulcan is quite another. He lives on a knife's edge. Me? I've got... complications (even longer story). It's a solid no-go. Absolutely not. Still, there's a flicker of desire that's working itself between my legs that seems damn near unstoppable if I let it burn unattended. But a guy who looks good in a skirt (yep, another story) and smells like a bottle of Jameson? I have an inkling, a little tingle that tells me it would be a bad, no good, terrible kind of idea. Because getting into his pants is one thing. But getting into his head is quite another. Full of steam, suspense (and a naughty surprise or two), get ready for the wildest Vulcan yet. This full-length bad boy romance can also be read standalone and includes no cheating, no cliffhangers and a take-your-breath-away extended HEA. Grab your copy today.

His unnatural power, however, has proven to be no great gift, for it has already cost him the woman he loves and it threatens to cost him his kingship. His people already don't trust him and if they knew of his power, they would view him as nothing more than a monster. Niall's future looks grim, but a twist of fate returns Ciara to his life when he least expects it. He latches onto the hope of a different future, only to discover that things have changed while he has hidden away in his castle. When the man Ciara trusted the most disappeared, she turned to his brother, a man she never saw herself falling for. Feynman & Boyd: Volume 1 : Manhattan by J.C.S. Wilson (The Rattling Page) 4.7 Stars (12 Reviews)    Price verified one hour ago

"This was a spectacular first book of the year! An alternate ending to WWII leads to high seas survival, a desert mystery and a quirky scientist's take on the mayhem... " - Goodreads "... a mix of science fiction, second world war history and of course, a post-catastrophe dystopian world. Unique, thought provoking and eminently readable." - GoodreadsSitting alone in his truck, Richard Feynman watches the Trinity Test fail. A year later, months after the celebrations that follow the end of World War Two, Lottie Boyd drifts alone on the Atlantic with a sniper rifle over her lap, one of the few to have escaped the Silent Zones. The fear that a large scale nuclear event would kick off a chain reaction of much more stable elements going into a fisson-state, burning the planet away, was real in the formative years of atomic testing. In Feynman and Boyd, the reverse occurs. The Trinity test fails due to a previously unidentified counter-reaction, where something in the natural world snuffs out combustion. The dusty by-product of this reaction, nicknamed "Deaden," is found to stabilize any combustible form, rendering weapons useless. The Manhattan Project quickly becomes a facility for creating Deaden. It is this anti-weapon that wins World War II. Within weeks of discovering Deaden, and using controlled reactions to manufacture it, it's then discovered that Deaden eventually also stops cellular combustion, killing every surrounding living thing. These areas are the Silent Zones. Despite this, manufacturing keeps being developed, and a massive, singular Silent Zone befalls most of the world, killing most living things in it's grip. Most.Lottie Boyd is in her twenties, a chronically ill woman whose illness has made her immune to the suffocation of Deaden. She has struck out for warmer climate after everyone and everything she has ever known has been killed. She sails on her father's sailboat, the Slocum, a replica of Joshua Slocum's Spray. The novel follows Lottie down the ...

The Day America Died by Will Clark 3.3 Stars (6 Reviews)    Price verified one hour ago

America's beginning wasn't easy or predestined. It took citizens of courage and wisdom not only to create that vision, but also to take those first bold steps. They sacrificed everything to give those who would come after them un-imagined freedom and opportunity. They saw only a future of prosperity, caring, decency, and fellowship for those later citizens. The people's decision on November 6, 2012 changed that American dream their ancestors had fought so hard to fulfill. They elected Barack Hussein Obama as president of the United States of America. That was the day the bullet was intentionally and prophetically fired directly through America's heart. That's the day America died. The election for his first term, 2008-2012, was a new American experiment, a risky experiment. A virtually unknown, untested, and inexperienced person was elected as president of the most powerful country on earth. His known background and experience was only that of a community organizer. In that role his main goal was to teach people of low income and low aspirations how to get more things and benefits from the government without producing anything of worth in return. While hard-working and conscientious citizens were tasking themselves to benefit themselves, their families, and their great country, Barack Hussein Obama was teaching others how to take from their dedicated efforts without contributing anything in return. His first election was the day the hammer was cocked to fire that fatal bullet to destroy America. Immediately, as president, his first actions were to divide Americans by class, income, race, ethnicity, and social status. He used a sharp carving knife to sever the nation, to exclude the successful with high aspirations from those who just wanted more free stuff; more of what he promised them, their 'fair share.' His economic and social ideologies are directly opposite from President Kennedy's. Kennedy said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you ...

I stole this life fair and square. And I won't let her steal it back. My first memory is of being abandoned by the fae. They threw me away, a cheap replacement for the human child they took. The way I see it, the girl I replaced got the better deal. She gets a fairytale world. I get student debt and a bad habit of turning my exes into animals. That all changes when she drags me into Faerie, trapping me there while she takes my life. Sure, she had it first, but I had it longer. Who knows what she'll get up to, while I'm dodging murderous dragons and trying to discover the cause of a plague that traps fae souls in human vessels. In Faerie, my only ally is one of the fae's human pets, Nightingale. Sardonic, gorgeous, and broken by magic, she's the sort of woman I'd fall for if I dared to let people close. Flesh Machine: The Story by Stjepan Krešimir Kračun 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

INTRODUCTION A young man is murdered at the subway station in the early hours of the morning. The victim was strangled, skinned, and the perpetrator then proceeded to remove his brain from his skull. The gruesome crime was captured on security cameras, and this leads to a quick arrest of a peculiar man. He calls himself 'the assembly' to which the latest additions were a new brain and skin from the man he had just murdered, or so he claims. Rushing in to unravel this outlandish story is a self-loathing misanthropic lawyer Dave who begins to tell us his story of his encounter with Sam, as 'the assembly' prefers to be called. Dave sees this case as a chance he's been waiting for all his life - to get out of public office (and his own narcissistic mind) and into fame and fortune that he believes will be the solution to all of this life's problems - and he has many - so many that his whole life is one big problem. But our dear Sam has other plans: for himself and Dave. As Dave meets Sam, after reading all the case files about him that defy both science as well as common sense, he is drawn into a conversation he did not expect, but Sam had carefully planned. Who's on the therapist's couch now? If the psychopath becomes the therapist and the common man becomes the psychopath - what is the conclusion? What is the resolution? Dave sets out to reel in a big reward, but he ends up getting more than he bargained for. FROM THE PREFACE Dancing on the edge of order and chaos, logic and paradox, comedy and tragedy, meaning and absurdity - the characters of this story hang in the balance, but not for very long. As I was writing this book and initially aimed to preserve this balance - I decided to identify the end-line of almost all extremes, linger there for awhile in mischievous deliberation, and then not only cross the line but jump over it with a running start and finish it off with a somersault. With that said, it's worth noting that nothing is off-limits in this book. ...

Signal @TurnpikeLane (Turnpike Train Detective Mysteries Book 1) by Katherine Semler 3.7 Stars (18 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

Can you solve the mystery lurking in the tunnels of the London Underground before Dick Turnpike does? Have you the answers to the "vague" letter in Mrs Abigail Parsons' possession since the death of her Professor Uncle who fought in World War 1 but died in World War 2? Dick Turnpike, the 12 year old history detective and tube train enthusiast, along with the help of his friend, Charlie Neasden, and the Underground Club caretaker, Ron Stanmore, are on the case. A possessed parrot, Goldhawk Junior, holds the key to the riddle. Through him the spirit of dead Goldhawk Senior communicates with the living world. The ghosts of the London Underground pose a threat but they are not enough to spook the hero of the book, Dick Turnpike. The story is set in contemporary 21st century Britain against the backdrop of the interesting and amazing history of the world's first subterranean railway system affectionately known as the "Tube". In typical Charles Dickens fashion the story covers parts of London's social history but where locations link with places on the London Underground map. As well as delving into the past, it touches on the issues and technical social media revolution affecting the younger generation today. I've been inspired to write a mystery from the age of 12, which is when I read my first Agatha Christie novel, "By the Pricking of My Thumbs". I read the book as I found out the school I was attending at the time was next door to the house in Sunningdale where Agatha Christie used to live. The house was called "Styles" and actually features in one of her book titles, "The Mysterious Affair at Styles". Now as an adult and after a fascinating trip to the London Transport Museum and the purchase of Stephen Halliday's "Underground To Everywhere" book, I thought I would mix the two and write a mystery set on the London Underground, but with a modern day twist.

Here is a preview: The brunette J-673, with her Spanish roots, sky-blue eyes, and expressionless bedroom eyes, who had occupied the neighboring box, already completed the process. He would make sure that she would bear his fertile seed within her. J-673 had the potential to become one of the most productive hucows on the farm. Already during her early stage of staying here, how she acted and carried herself showed how well suited she was to live out her days as one of his chosen hucows. J-673 took only a short time until she understood her role and was ready to embrace it. It was fitting that she was also the first in this year to be impregnated. She represented the farm's future in many ways: young, fertile, and eager to serve the cause. As Joern walked toward her pen, he marveled at the idea that soon they ...

Cymbalist Poems: (Never Lose the Pebble to Enchant) by Jean-Thomas Cullen Price verified 2 hours ago

I was a young (27) enlisted soldier in the U.S. Army when I wrote my last poetry. By then, my career as a poet had spanned more than a dozen years reaching back to my teens and earlier. I was a published poet by age 18, and had been writing with good esthetic and technical skill since an even earlier age. Those long ago poems, and that young poet and author, deserve to be heard at last, all these many years later. Youth and love and passion never fade, so these poems (and the companion novel Jon+Merile, written by yours truly at age 27 in an old Hitler-era tank barracks in West Germany during the Cold War), come to you via memory express from far ago and long away. In ways I didn't realize, my first enlistment was a dream. I was young, single, in great health, a handsome enough fellow, with a degree in English and a license to roam. I was stationed in the heart of Europe, working pretty much a 9-5 job (aside from the usual Army rigamarole of alerts, duties, and inspections). I owned an old orange VW van in which I could ramble as I pleased on weekends, and ramble I did, often enough, to Paris, Brussels, Heidelberg, Luxembourg, and many other interesting places. Sometimes I just took the 10:30 p.m. Friday night French troop train that stopped in Kaiserslautern. I'd take a bottle of fine Palatinate wine, sleep through the night (saving a hotel bill, because G.I.s do not have much money), and I'd wake up in the Gare de L'Est in Paris, ready to ramble all day. I was, however, a typical soldier, far from home, and homesick. I longed to be back in the life I'd left behind, to which I wrote a novel in ecstasy, a nostalgic ode titled in manuscript simply Jon+Merile. Its hero is a young poet in a New England college town, who has a mad passionate love affair with a lonely young married woman. That novel remained a dusty manuscript until I finally published it as That's Life: A Love Affair (Jon+Merile 1973) in 2016. The word nostalgia, in fact, from Hellenic ...

Super Sonic Seppuku: a suicidal novel by Trevor R. Fairbanks Price verified 2 hours ago

PUNK ROCKERS AREN'T AS COOL AS YOU THINK THEY ARE! Yeah, this book isn't very good. Told in a first person style, it is the coming of age story of the portraitist Krust. You've never read a book about a portraitist before? Well, there's probably a reason for that. Krust is an ugly little man from an ugly little town who makes an ugly little deal with the Devil that ends up killing all of his ugly little friends. Krust is a pervert, a freeloader, a drug abuser and a lowlife and this book illustrates all these horrible attributes in vivid detail. The ending is cliche and boring and not very well thought out. Avoid SUPER SONIC SEPPUKU at all costs. I have other books that are better. Maybe go read one of them instead.

millennYELL: diatribes of self-discovery by Bryan Wright (Historia|Research Press) 4.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

millennYELL: diatribes of self-discovery is a collection of poems intending to complicate the characterization of millennials as naively hopeful or as helplessly impotent. Bryan D. Wright's first book of poetry sweeps the personal, political, social, and cultural minefields left behind by the culture warriors of America's previous generations. His poems are a lament for the loss of the commonweal during the past thirty years of American life and culture -- while also being a rally cry to take action and seek meaning in the alienation pervading American society at the outset of the twenty-first century. Mr. Wright's poems in millennYELL are presented under four main themes of poetic expression - nihilism, longing, despair, and promise - each separated by a timeline of related events in American history from 1990 to 2020. His poetry grapples with key adversities for young adults: the tenuous grounds on which human meaning and action rest, the risks associated with desiring something over nothing, the anxiety that accompanies the pursuit of goals and values, and the latent (and dismal) prospects for success at the outset of every lifetime of endeavor. The poems - disquieting, exacting, and poignant - express key moments of personal anguish and insight that interrupted his prolonged inner dialog on the meaning of adulthood for the first generation to shape the next century and next millennium.

DEEP FOUNDATIONS: A Biblical Tour of Our Past, Present & Future by Rick Peterman (R L P Publishing) 4.3 Stars (12 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

You can have an unshakable faith, discover your purpose and potential and fulfill your destiny. Revealed are opportunities to realize and apply transforming information essential to making wise decisions. This book contains biblical insights about the trinity of God and man, spiritual warfare, history, prophecy, God's sovereignty, man's free will, Heaven & judgment day. Deep Foundations has 4 different informative time charts and 15 different clarifying diagrams found in 20 different arias. I think you will find this book enlightening, empowering, thought provoking, and well documented in the authority of Scripture. I believe the information contained in this book will be interesting, relevant, and useful to at least four types of people. To the Skeptic: The honest doubter can see how the Bible has logical and reasonable answers to the problems in our world. It reveals the causes and effects we see all around us, as well as the reasonable conclusions, we often don't see in time. (Galatians 6:7) To the Truth Seeker: You may be looking at all the different religions of the world with their isolated and disconnected ideas that promote contradictions. It is important to know how to test them to find out if they have true lasting treasure or are just an illusion that temporarily makes you feel good.
