Donut Hole: A Marine’s Real-Life Battles in Vietnam During 1967 and 68 Marines, 1st Force Logistical Command Clutch Platoon by R.C. Lebeau 4.0 Stars (20 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

This book does not explore the religious aspects of war. Your very belief is tested in combat, you must kill your enemy, or your enemy will kill you - that is the simple, hard cold fact. Because in my humble opinion, War is hell on Earth. Evil roams freely in War, and it will kill you, one way or another, with its evil intent. Nightmares are common and, in their fantasy, never reflect the real horror and the reality that War can bring to your mind. No matter what your personal spiritual beliefs are, you will be tested. The conduct of your intent will be your judge for life. It is your second guessing that can be dangerous to you. A wise Philosopher once said in Greece, "If you want real peace, you must always prepare for War." This book is about war. It tells my experiences of the paths I took as a United States Marine in Vietnam. The mouths of many soldiers will say the same - the same soldiers who had shared my paths with the experiences of my many paths in life. I have not shared these words or reflections with anyone, except in bits and pieces, and that too, with other veterans in the form of bunker talk.

A Nation of Ruins by Robert John Burke 3.6 Stars (21 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

It's 2098, and conservative America stands victorious. The Second American Revolution and the New Bill of Rights have swept away all traces of liberalism in the United States of America. Bearing arms is compulsory, illegal immigrants are hunted down without mercy, and the reborn nation stands astride the world like a Colossus. Only a few embittered old holdouts, like civil rights attorney and former left-wing activist William Fitzgerald, still remember it as the land of the free. When he reluctantly agrees to defend a close friend's son, the so-called Peace Vigilante, Fitz finds himself at the center of the trial of the century, where the most dangerous man in America is the one who won't carry a gun. Combining an impassioned defense of progressive ideals and liberal Christianity with a gripping near-future legal thriller, A Nation of Ruins presents a vision of a very different world, but one entirely too close to our own for comfort...

War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (Pandora's Box Classics) 4.2 Stars (282 Reviews)    Price verified 6 hours ago

Tolstoy's epic masterpiece intertwines the lives of private and public individuals during the time of the Napoleonic wars and the French invasion of Russia. The fortunes of the Rostovs and the Bolkonskys, of Pierre, Natasha, and Andrei, are intimately connected with the national history that is played out in parallel with their lives. Balls and soirees alternate with councils of war and the machinations of statesmen and generals, scenes of violent battles with everyday human passions in a work whose extraordinary imaginative power has never been surpassed. The prodigious cast of characters, seem to act and move as if connected by threads of destiny as the novel relentlessly questions ideas of free will, fate, and providence. Yet Tolstoy's portrayal of marital relations and scenes of domesticity is as truthful and poignant as the grand themes that underlie them. The last word of the landlord's literature and the brilliant one at that. -- Fyodor Dostoyevsky The best ever Russian historical novel. -- Nikolai Leskov One of the most remarkable books of our age. -- Ivan Turgenev This is the first class work!... This is powerful, very powerful indeed. -- Gustave Flaubert The best novel that had ever been written. -- John Galsworthy This work, like life itself, has no beginning, no end. It is life itself in its eternal movement. -- Romain Rolland The greatest ever war novel in the history of literature. -- Thomas Mann There remains the greatest of all novelists -- for what else can we call the author of "War and Peace"? -- Virginia Woolf Tolstoy is the greatest Russian writer of prose fiction. -- Vladimir Nabokov

Alice thinks she's accepted the loss of her ballet career, injury having forced her to trade in pointe shoes onstage for spreadsheets upstairs. That is, until the day Alice's boss asks her to befriend Lana, a pretty new company member he's got his eye on. Lana represents all Alice has lost, not just as a ballet dancer, but as a motherless daughter. It's pain she's kept hidden, even from herself, as every good ballet dancer knows to do. Lana, lonely and unmoored, desperately needs some help, and her mother, back home, vows eternal support. But when Lana begins to profit from Alice's advice and help, her mother's constant attention curdles into something more sinister. The Turn by Matthew Tysz 3.8 Stars (33 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

"They say the end of the world began when the president of the United States shot himself on national television... " This is the first of three books currently available. The series will ultimately consist of five novels. Before I get into what the story is about specifically, I want to let you know off the bat that this is a niche story: this entry novel into a dark mythological world consists of a crushingly dark and hopeless atmosphere, and is governed by characters who themselves are no white knights; they are wanderers trying to make sense out of a confusing world. To read the first entry of this series is like walking through a dark forest, with noises echoing from untraceable sources, shapes forming in the branches that look like something other than what they are, and all manner of things appearing out of nowhere. As the series continues, the forest opens up, and the characters begin to find agency in this new world. There is slavery in this story, and implications of all forms of abuse (though sexual abuse is never explicitly described). The main characters are flawed to a fault; some may argue an unforgivable fault. There is no hero in this story, at least not in this opening entry to the series. This first book is somber, depressing, and bizarre. However, nihilism is not the overall theme of the series: quite the opposite, in fact. On to the subject of the story... The series begins two years after an event which rendered the world geographically unrecognizable and left less than ten percent of the population alive. Scholar, one of the two main characters, was lazing in his basement apartment when the event actually happened, so the details of this event are unknown to him, because nobody wants to talk about it. The second main character is Ashley. He is a former Wall Street playboy who has learned how to adapt physically and psychologically to the new world. But he wants to get out of survival mode and see the world, motivated by a deep and ...

God Speaks.a true story by Beverly A. Brown 4.6 Stars (66 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

When God does something miraculous, sometimes you see it and sometimes you don't. I can truthfully say, that I have seen a miracle. I never expected it to happen. The circumstances surrounding it didn't make much sense to me at the time, because my daughter was dying. My daughter... a child whose biography is full of challenges. But God had a special purpose for her life. Now I can understand why He chose her. She was a perfect candidate for God to work through -- in ways that most of us can't even imagine. Something supernatural happened to my daughter. God worked in her life in such a way that revealed a unique revelation of His presence. It was a never to be forgotten experience, creating a phenomena, which is now burned into many people's memories. One author said it this way... God is speaking, always speaking; not through channels you might have expected. But He is always speaking. My daughter's life and her death would make that statement ring true in a way that no one could have predicted. Her legacy would live on long after she was gone. You probably have no idea who Tara Nicole Brown is, but what a story it tells; her story. If you have ever wondered... is God really involved in my life? or... is there really life after death?, then this story is for you. It's an exceptional story. Piecing it together has been my labor of love these past four years. I think it's important to share how we've survived times of adversity and tragedy, so that we don't lose heart; which is part of the reason I wrote this book. All of us go through dark times in our lives. When life seems dark and hard to understand, many times we doubt God's presence. But we are not alone. God is with us. As you dig a little deeper in this story, you will discover, He is with us... even in the valley of the shadow of death. My daughter's life was a great testimony of God's presence, His love, and true purpose. Now her memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, and ...

Sugar Rush (Offensive Line Book 2) by Tracey Ward 4.3 Stars (127 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

Colt Avery is on fire. Dubbed one of the NFL's best kept secrets, he's in the spotlight for the first time in his career. Women want him, coaches are courting him, and his Kansas cornfield good looks are too good not to be shared. His face is everywhere; TV, magazines, billboards. The entire world is in love with him. Everyone wants a piece of him. Everyone but Lilly Hendricks. Lilly grew up in L.A. where pretty faces are a dime a dozen. She's seen first hand what happens when you get swept up in the whirlwind of fame and fortune; you get dropped on your ass, and there's no one there to help you up. She stays away from the flashbulbs, avoiding the limelight, perfectly content to be recognized for her cupcakes and her karaoke skills, nothing more. But Colt isn't easy to say no to, especially when he refuses to go away no matter how many times Lilly tells him to. He's addicted to her baking. To her beauty. To her bark that's almost as sexy as her bite, and he's not going anywhere until she gives him a chance. No matter what it costs him. Fame is a rush, but falling in love? That sh#t is sweet as sugar. *Due to language and sexual content, this book is not recommended for readers under 18. Barchester Towers (The Classic Unabridged Edition): Victorian Classic from the prolific English novelist, known for The Palliser Novels, The Prime ... by Anthony Trollope (e-artnow) 4.3 Stars (297 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This carefully crafted ebook: "Barchester Towers (The Classic Unabridged Edition)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Barchester Towers is the second novel in Anthony Trollope's series known as the "Chronicles of Barsetshire". Among other things it satirises the then raging antipathy in the Church of England between High Church and Evangelical adherents. Barchester Towers concerns the leading clergy of the cathedral city of Barchester. The much loved bishop having died, all expectations are that his son, Archdeacon Grantly, will succeed him. Instead, owing to the passage of the power of patronage to a new Prime Minister, a newcomer, the far more Evangelical Bishop Proudie, gains the see. His wife, Mrs Proudie, exercises an undue influence over the new bishop, making herself as well as the bishop unpopular with most of the clergy of the diocese. Her interference to veto the reappointment of the universally popular Mr Septimus Harding (protagonist of Trollope's earlier novel, The Warden) as warden of Hiram's Hospital is not well received, even though she gives the position to a needy clergyman, Mr Quiverful, with 14 children to support. Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) was one of the most successful, prolific and respected English novelists of the Victorian era. Some of his best-loved works, collectively known as the Chronicles of Barsetshire, revolve around the imaginary county of Barsetshire. He also wrote perceptive novels on political, social, and gender issues, and on other topical matters. Trollope's literary reputation dipped somewhat during the last years of his life, but he regained the esteem of critics by the mid-twentieth century.

Vanessa Wester's debut novel takes you from the University of Southampton to the depths of the Amazon jungle. An imaginary citadel is waiting to be discovered full of interesting characters, traditions and cultures. There are so many twists and details you will not be able to put this book down. ***** "Although the author is inspired by novels in the same genre there is nothing wrong in that - most of us take inspiration from one source or another. Vanessa Wester has clearly taken inspiration from her own life and from her imagination. She has clearly spent time creating the imaginary citadel and understands its geography and customs which are made clear to the reader. The story-line flows smoothly... I always think there must be something to recommend a book which you would not normally select." Christine Thompson, GibraltarChronicle Full review at theevolutiontrilogy.blogspot.com "When you first start getting into the story you automatically think Vampires, but as you discover more, Vampires is not the correct term for Steven's new family... It's well worth the read and as I got to the end I was frantically swiping my kindle screen looking for more as I wanted to know what happened next. I will definitely be reading the next book and would highly recommend it." Orchard Book Club "Not usually the kind of book I like to read, although I was a big fan of Anne Rice in my youth. Little School of Horrors by McKenna Cooke 4.8 Stars (8 Reviews)    Price verified 16 hours ago

**This a thriller/mystery/romance novel for teens and young adults 15+ due to violence and language.** Everyone I know - and people I don't -- think my best friends and I had something to do with our English teacher's death. People we thought of as friends. Peers. Teachers. Our parents. And who knows? Maybe we did. Maybe we were the reason why the psycho pedophile Mike Adams was stabbed thirteen times in his kitchen. But did we do it? No. Still, it sucks being treated as though we did. Can you really blame us for starting fresh at a boarding school? It was our only chance to get away from everyone who blamed us, especially our parents. And yeah, I get that it looks like we are "running away" which might be construed as suspicious, but WE DIDN'T KILL ANYONE. Besides, being around hundreds of new faces means making new friends. And maybe stirring up a new romance. And gaining the trust of the people who actually care about us. We need every person on our side that we can get, because there is someone out there that knows who we are, knows where we came from, and knows what we did. And it seems to me like they want to end us.

1961 - Sermons of William Marrion Branham by William Branham (Voice of God Recordings) 4.3 Stars (21 Reviews)    Price verified 17 hours ago

Sermons of William Marrion Branham 1961 Have you ever read your Bible and wondered where is the God of Elijah Who called down the Pillar of Fire or raised up the dead? Why don't we have prophets today like we read about in the Bible? Where are the miracles that were always present with every true servant of God? The Holy Scriptures certainly promise that we would have prophets today, so where are they? Did the hope of God sending a Message to the earth die two thousand years ago when the last verse of the Bible was written? Although many of the modern denominations would have you believe that the days of miracles is past and prophets are no longer needed, God HAS sent a man in these last days with THUS SAITH THE LORD, and yes, miracles followed his Message. Contained within the text of this ebook is an opportunity to read the words spoken by such a man, who not only preached the Bible from Genesis to Revelation but also demonstrated the power of Jesus Christ being the same yesterday, today and forever. "Not for one moment do I bring a message to the people that they may follow me, or join my church, or start some fellowship and organization. I have never done that and will not do that now. I have no interest in those things, but I do have an interest in the things of God and people, and if I can accomplish just one thing I will be satisfied. That one thing is to see established a true spiritual relationship between God and men, wherein men become new creations in Christ, filled with His Spirit and live according to His Word. I would invite, plead and warn all to hear His voice at this time, and yield your lives completely to Him, even as I trust in my heart that I have given my all to Him. God bless you, and may His coming rejoice your heart."? - William Branham, An Exposition of the Seven Church Ages. This is ebook is book 10 of the entire collection of his sermons. In this ebook is a total compilation of the 92 sermons of Reverend William Marrion Branham ...

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë (Pandora's Box Classics) 4.3 Stars (4,320 Reviews)    Price verified 20 hours ago

Considered lurid and shocking by mid-19th-century standards, Wuthering Heights was initially thought to be such a publishing risk that its author, Emily Brontë, was asked to pay some of the publication costs. Wuthering Heights is a wild, passionate story of the intense and almost demonic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine's father. After Mr Earnshaw's death, Heathcliff is bullied and humiliated by Catherine's brother Hindley and wrongly believing that his love for Catherine is not reciprocated, leaves Wuthering Heights, only to return years later as a wealthy and polished man. He proceeds to exact a terrible revenge for his former miseries. The action of the story is chaotic and unremittingly violent, but the accomplished handling of a complex structure, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature. A fiend of a book -- an incredible monster... The action is laid in hell, -- only it seems places and people have English names there. -- Dante Gabriel Rossetti A monument of the most striking genius that nineteenth-century womanhood has given us. -- Clement Shorter The greatest work of fiction by any man or woman Europe has produced to date. -- Anthony Ludovici There is no "I" in 'Wuthering Heights'. There are no governesses. There are no employers. There is love, but it is not the love of men and women. Emily was inspired by some more general conception. The impulse which urged her to create was not her own suffering or her own injuries. She looked out upon a world cleft into gigantic disorder and felt within her the power to unite it in a book. -- Virginia Woolf
