The Paladin: Book 2 of The Seer Chronicles by Erin Monagan 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

A teaser excerpt from the book: I flipped the light on beside my bed and pulled a pen out of the nightstand drawer. The inside cover had a tan backing; a place where someone could write a dedication. I scrawled my name at the top left corner. It looked lonely and strange. My handwriting was always something that needed work. There was no reason my name should be lonely. Beneath it I put the one thing that always made me feel less alone: Regan Caine, paladin. I might never know what it felt like to be married, and I might never see Regan again, but at least I wasn't alone now. Even his name beneath mine made me feel less alone in this great room. That was the way it was for seers. We could never marry like the others, never join a special community like the others, but we had to find the one thing that wouldn't make us feel alone. For me, it was Regan, my paladin.

Dark Terror: The Pledge (Under the Rainbow Book 1) by Mervyn Sanders 4.8 Stars (8 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

This is the first of seven books in the Under the Rainbow series narrating a classic Good v Evil account. Myth combined with Magic. A portal is opened in the cemetery of St. Mary's Church in a stagnant village somewhere on the English coast. This portal allows select residents to enter a world inhabited by Faeries, Pixie/Elf hybrids, a giant, a dragon, talking animals and more than the odd unicorn. Their assailants include Vampyrs, Wraiths, Weirdoos, Minxes, gargoyles and Lucifer himself. Unfortunately the portal is two way, and access to the backwater village sees the struggle continue to its conclusion in our own world. Readers expecting pretty little cottages with roses framing their doorways, with delicate little fairies flitting in the sunlight, will end up disappointed. More discerning readers will strip off layers from the story to discover the hidden depths beneath. Suitable for adults and teenagers alike, containing no offensive language or images of graphic sex, with the added bonus of being vegetarian friendly. If you are a reader of a nervous disposition when it comes to scenes of gruesome carnage - well, perhaps this book is not for you. Or is it? Mydia's End (The Book Wielder Saga 3) by Sean Davies Price verified 9 hours ago

The Book Wielder Saga concludes in this exciting instalment, filled with action, intrigue, and beloved characters old and new! Following Winston's fated actions at the end of the War for Reality, the world of Mydia has now been restored to its fully magical state, and times are as wondrous as they are dangerous for its inhabitants, some of whom embrace the change while others vehemently oppose it. Alice Eve (now Lord Imperator of the Justiciars) and the Book Wielder Chloe O'Kelly are hot on the tail of the corruption Demon Corriztis, who after occupying one of Alice's men has started a campaign of chaos against the post-merger world. Adding to their troubles, and also on their hit-list, is the unusually elusive Daedrian Darkheart, the leader of a terrorist organisation hell-bent on opposing the new world order they view as totally unjust, and the Supernaturals and Alternatives who they blame for turning their peaceful and mundane lives upside-down. Winston Reynolds, the Primary Regulator of his new Book Wielder Conclave, expertly deals with diplomatic matters and continues to unite the people of the newly restored world as though he was born for the role. Almost all the leaders of the Nations and new fledgling provinces owe him a favour or two (and most even consider him to be Mydia's unofficial Emperor), but his wife Veronica has noticed that his behaviour has slowly but surely been changing, and fears that even though the evil Archmage Omniosis is dead, his influence may be alive and well. Meanwhile, Constance Lee, a new white-eyed Conclave Book Wielder from the Tropican Archipelago, is paired with the Vampire Nightclaw Genevieve Jameson on mission to investigate a strange pillar on the far side of the planet that could hold the secrets of Mydia's past, as well as the key to its continued future. In this page-turning final instalment of the Book Wielder Saga, Winston, Veronica, Alice, Genevieve, Constance, and their friends and allies will fight fiercely ...

Gloom Rising: (Revisited) (The Book Wielder Saga 1) by Sean Davies Price verified 9 hours ago

Winston Reynold's mind-numbingly dull life gets turned upside down after finding a magical tome that bestows upon him magical powers, alchemical knowledge, and the ability to enter the Gloom -- a dark reflection of reality, filled with arcane reagents and eerie, inhuman dangers. After learning that he is a Book Wielder -- a small group of individuals seemingly chosen by Fate to wield the strange tomes -- Winston is exposed to an alliance of Vampires, Werewolves, and Mages hiding underground and behind the scenes of human society. These Supernatural beings depend on Book Wielders to cross into the Gloom, because the key ingredients to many of their priceless potions (and alchemically-enhanced drugs) can be found within the unnerving dark dimension. Winston, a young man brimming with ambition, sets himself up with the Shadow Circle (the most powerful Supernatural gang on his home continent) to escape from his unbearably mediocre life. However, an 'interview' for the most prestigious Book Wielder position within the gang changes Winston's life in more ways than he could have ever imagined -- for it isn't just Fate that has taken a special interest in him. All the while, Alice Eve -- a stern, pious, and unflinching Inquisitor General -- is dispatched to end the criminal corruption that plagues the modern-day world of Mydia. Alice is unaware, however, that there are much more than crooked government officials and drug-peddling syndicates to worry about in the shadows of her society... nor does she realise true the significance of a strange book that she can't seem to be rid of.

The battle for Imperia City may be over, but the War for Reality is only just beginning. Alice Eve, head of the Inquisition and reluctant Book Wielder, struggles to regain order in a world thrown into chaos following the merger of the Capital. With her unlikely Supernatural allies in the Trinity of Old, she fights to prevent the rest of the world from falling into the hands of the Archmage Omniosis, and from being merged with the Gloom by Winston Reynolds. Through the war-torn world, Alice must find a way to deliver her 'divine' message of reason to the unsuspecting Winston before all is lost. Meanwhile, Winston learns about the burdens of leadership the hard way as he watches the consequences of his actions become far more frequent and closer to the home front. He is left to wonder if his ambition has pushed him too far as he prepares for his wedding day with his gorgeous Vampire wife-to-be Veronica, not to mention the upcoming assault on Industria City. Behind the scenes, Lewis Thorne secretly begins to fulfil the Archmage Omniosis' dark duties, working to ensure that when the time comes, his best friend Winston will merge the whole of reality with the Gloom -- permanently. Will Alice and her allies pull through in time, or will the world of Mydia as they know it fall to Winston and Omniosis, and their seemingly insatiable thirst for power?

The creek held many secrets that included several supernatural events that our friends and family experienced on several occasions. Driving into town on foggy nights, we witnessed the sight of a shadow man, dressed in period clothing. His antiquated coat and boots appeared to be attire straight out of the 1800s. The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers (Open Road Media Mystery & Thriller) 3.8 Stars (315 Reviews)    Price verified 18 hours ago

Ten twisted tales that have haunted generations of readers and writers from H. P. Lovecraft to the creators of the hit TV series True Detective Nightmare imagery courses through these stories like blood through the veins. In "The Repairer of Reputations," a Lethal Chamber stands at the edge of Washington Square Park, open to all who can no longer bear the sorrows of life. A Parisian sculptor discovers a liquid solution that can turn any living thing -- a lily, a goldfish, a love-struck young woman -- to stone in "The Mask." The unnamed narrator of "In the Court of the Dragon" seeks respite in a church only to be driven mad by organ music that no one else can hear. Nothing is stranger or more frightening, however, than The King in Yellow, the play that links these tales to one another and to a larger fictional universe containing the ghost stories of Ambrose Bierce, the cosmic horror of H. P. Lovecraft, and the first season of the critically acclaimed HBO series True Detective. Said to induce insanity and despair in those who read it, little is known for certain about the play beyond the ravings of those who have dared to open its pages. They speak of Carcosa, where black stars hang in the heavens. Of twin suns sinking into the Lake of Hali. Of the Yellow Sign and the Pallid Mask. And, in dread-filled whispers or lunatic shouts, of the King in Yellow himself, come to rule the world. A masterpiece of weird fiction, Robert W. Chambers's The King in Yellow holds the answer to countless mysteries -- some of which might just be better left unsolved. This ebook has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices.

Beowulf (Clydesdale Classics) by Anonymous (Clydesdale) 4.2 Stars (523 Reviews)    Price verified 19 hours ago

Packaged in handsome, affordable trade editions, Clydesdale Classics is a new series of essential literary works. It features literary phenomena with influence and themes so great that, after their publication, they changed literature forever. From the musings of literary geniuses like Mark Twain in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn to the striking personal narrative of Solomon Northup in Twelve Years a Slave, this new series is a comprehensive collection of our history through the words of the exceptional few. Beowulf, first printed in 1815, is an epic Old English poem that dates back to between the eighth and eleventh centuries. The author is unknown, yet Beowulf is often regarded as one of the single most important works in Old English literature. The poem tells the tale of the protagonist Beowulf, prince of the Geats, and his constant desire to prove his strength. After hearing of a demonic and vicious monster wreaking havoc on King Hrothgar's great hall, Beowulf is inspired by the challenge and offers to slay the demon in an attempt to repay a debt owed by his father. The young, powerful warrior engages Grendel and kills the beast with his bare hands by ripping its arm off. Seeking revenge, Grendel's mother attacks the hall but Beowulf prevails. He is later named king of Geatland, and under his rule, he brings the land to great prosperity for more than fifty years. However, after a thief steals a valuable cup from a treasure trove, a dragon is awakened and unleashes its violent wrath upon Geatland. With its exalted poetics and incredible world-building, Beowulf has inspired readers and writers for centuries. Among some of the most famous is undoubtedly J.R.R. Tolkien—author of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, both of which were heavily influenced by this classic epic.

For An Uncertain Future: Three short stories from the universe of For Love of Their Children (Because of Her Shadow Book 0) by Jason Dias (Superluminal Velocity Books) 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified one hour ago

Three stories of epic fantasy, each in their way grim and bloody. Set in a world of shapeshifting jaguars and bronze-age slavemasters, of chimeric monsters hardly worse than the princes that hunt them, of degradation and decadence, these stories tell of people striving to avoid the crushing feet of destiny, or to become kings and gods. Writing For Love of Their Children was an obsessive pursuit. I wrote nine thousand words a day. I spent every free moment contemplating the story. The characters were more real to me than my family. That first novel in the series brought a world to life both on paper and inside my head. There was not room in the story to show you the mysterious forests of Lurk, or the northlands of Sorub with their forge-towns and animistic spirits. What I missed most was the chance to show where the most troubling of the characters came from. King Ynn's apparently psychopathic behavior towards his own children is a paradoxical love I understand. I hope it troubles the reader, nags at her, but I also want to give Ynn a chance to defend himself. No villain is only a villain. We are all the heroes of our own stories. The dreadful things he does go to serve a higher purpose. In To Honor His Teachings, we get a glimpse of that purpose, as well as some of the inner workings of Hitaian politics. Mithodroxes flits in and out of the story, driven by some otherworldly knowledge. She has alien motives. She can hardly explain them. But she came from somewhere. She was a child once. In To Spare Her the Guilt, we see how her slip out of the world and into the embrace of her alien god affected her family, and we get to see her last human choice. It is her shadow that forever after falls over the other characters. And then we have Zilda, equally driven. For Love of Their Children hints at her antecedents. In To Bring the World Order, we see how she arrived at her first command and what was at stake. In the jungles of Lurk, it becomes clear what drives her to the ...

Pinnacle City: A Superhero Noir by Carter Matt (Talos) 3.7 Stars (19 Reviews)    Price verified 15 minutes ago

Pinnacle City is many things to many people. To some it is a glittering metropolis, a symbol of prosperity watched over by the all-star superhero team, the Pinnacle City Guardians. Beyond the glitz and glamour, there is another city, one still feeling the physical and economic damage of the superhero-villain battles of generations past. The lower class, immigrants, criminals, aliens, sorcerers, and non-humans alike call this city home, looking to make a living, which is becoming increasingly difficult as the two sides of the city seem prepared to boil over into a violent conflict. Private investigator Eddie Enriquez, born with the ability to read the histories of objects by touch, still bears the scars of his time as a youthful minion for a low-level supervillain, followed by stints in prison and the military. Though now trying to live a straight-and-narrow life, he supports a drinking problem and painkiller addiction by using his powers to track down insurance cheats. When a mysterious woman enters his office asking him to investigate the death of prominent non-human rights activist Quentin Julian, a crime the police and heroes are ignoring, he takes the case in the hopes of doing something good. Superhero Kimberly Kline has just hit it big, graduating from her team of young heroes to the Pinnacle City Guardians with the new codename of Solar Flare. With good looks, powers that include flight, energy manipulation, superhuman strength, durability, and speed, as well as a good family name, the sky is the limit for her. Upbeat, optimistic, and perhaps a little naïve from the upper-crust life she was raised in, she hopes to make her family, and the world, proud by being the greatest superhero she can be... but things aren't always as they seem. From the minds of Matt Carter and Fiona J. R. Titchenell, Pinnacle City is a pulpy, throwback noir of yesteryear, where two unlikely people from opposite sides of the track must team up to do good in a world full of so much ...

Equinox: A Paranormal Post Apocalyptic Romance (Celestial Awakenings Book 1) by Lux Miller 4.7 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 21 hours ago

Nova: I can count on one hand the number of people I trust in this post-apocalyptic world where zombies roam the woods, the rich live under domes, and the rest of us... well, we survive. When a total stranger plucks me out of danger, we find ourselves thrown into the middle of an ancient prophecy that says the assumed long-dead gods will return. It's a race against time as we try to outsmart the past in order to outrun a destiny that neither of us wants. But if everything about the prophecy is so bad, why am I drawn to the mysterious man with the green eyes at every turn? And why does everything that's supposedly so wrong, suddenly feel so right? Drake: I'm a loner, drifting from town to town without any attachments to anyone. Attachments means affection and affection can be dangerous. Getting too close to anyone could activate an ancient curse that's been placed upon me by the Allfather himself and I cannot afford to let my guard down. I cannot give in to what the curse says I will become. So when I make a split second decision to save the thief from a Navian bounty hunter, I set into motion everything which I've been running from - but in my darkest moments, I find myself running into the danger... and back to her. Will my curse destroy us or is Earth finally due for a miracle? Equinox is part one of a two-part series and ends in a subtle cliffhanger. While it DOES reach a satisfying conclusion and CAN be read as a standalone, it is the author's recommendation to follow this book with part two of Nova's story, Solstice, which will be released on January 24, 2020. This book contains material which is intended for a mature audience and is inappropriate for readers under the age of eighteen.

The dragon hovers, its great wings beat steadily as it stares menacingly at the three whom have invaded its nest. Alex notes with dread the dragon's dark green scales. They are face to face with the most dangerous dragon of all. Powerful jaws, fiery breath and razor sharp talons, each just as lethal as the next. But the dragon keeps its distance. `Why doesn't it attack?' "What's it doing?" Alex can barely emit a hoarse whisper. "Maybe it's as scared of us as we are of it." Alex looks at Jamie dumbfounded, he couldn't have really just said that. Suddenly Alex's question has a real answer. What is it doing? It was waiting for backup. From behind Ja-Day and the boys another dragon rises up from below the cliff face. They're trapped. The female has joined its mate in protection of their nest. Dragons, the royalty of the sky. Those whom bare witness feel compelled to bow there heads, whether through reverence or fear, it is said to be the only chance to survive an encounter. Ja-Day knows these legends well. He lifts his head into the air and breathes a terrifying inferno of fire. ********** For more writing samples go to the 'Tandara Discussion Forum'. Author Information: Brendan and Damian Jones ...

Senkumo War Stories: Book of Blossoming by Haruto Tonbogiri 3.5 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

"Young girls and mass-murderers are tender-hearted creatures." Tsukiakari was unlucky. Daughter of the Shinto gods Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi, she was supposed to live a lavish life of fortune and favor. She was supposed to be a princess, planning for the day when she would rule Heaven and its subjects, like her father and mother before her. She would soon learn that fate laughs as these pallid, charmless machinations called "plans". Her father was banished from Heaven for the murder of a fellow god, while her mother's waning mental health made it impossible to continue living with her. And so, Tsukiakari fled from Heaven, descending upon the Honshu island of Japan during the kickoff of the Onin War. Tsukiakari finds herself exposed to both the horrors and the beauties of the mortal world, and the humans therein. She becomes accustomed to Japan's landscape, its aromatic sakura trees and waving fields of moonlit susuki, but is left terrified by the madness and brutality of war. She has walked right into an era of social upheaval, of lordless armies engraving their mark in history with their bloodstained blades. No one was there to guide her. Except for him. Bishamonten, the legendary god of war, discovers the young Tsukiakari's affinity for the blade. He takes the stray goddess in, offering her a home and a place in his new society; the Senkumo clan. Just imagine, a militaristic society unbound by power-hungry daimyo or an ever-increasingly useless Shogun, a parallel state hiding beneath the underbelly of feudal, war-stricken Japan. The Senkumo are not bound by a common bond of blood, but by a common bond of ideals. They vow to not only become a nation unto themselves, but to also bring the fear of the gods back to the outside world. With Tsukiakari in their ranks, the Senkumo embrace their second lord, and the clan begins their long, bloody, and tragic journey to achieve their vision. Senkumo War Stories is a chronicle of the battles, the brutality, and the ...
