The Mermaid's Tail (A Modern Fairy Tale for the Fairy Tale Jaded Book 1) by Suzanne Struthers 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

Romance... with a twist "Wow, and I thought my childhood sucked. Where have you been living if you've never heard of an iPod?" he couldn't help but ask, flustered, then cursed himself for his eternal case of foot-in-mouth disease. It wasn't his business just where she'd been... at least not yet. This was only the second conversation they'd had, perhaps it was a bit too soon for the 'so, regale me with tales of your past' type conversations. Still, he was certain the gods of courtship would forgive him this one faux pas, because who hadn't heard of an iPod ?! There was a reason, after all, that Steven Jobs' death had been bigger news, for a time, than the national deficit. Her face turned sad, then reflective, her voice distant as she said, "I've been swimming." Which, fine, if she wanted to be glib instead of answering the question he supposed he couldn't hold it against her. The one with the mermaid... This short story is meant to be part of a collection of fairy tale-type stories for adults set in modern times, in other words "Modern Fairy Tales for the Fairy Tale Jaded". They're sassy, not entirely reverent and chock full of pop culture references. This is the second in a complete collection of stories of a similar ilk. The Boatwright: The Prequel to The Weaver & The Loom (The Weaver And The Loom Book 2) by Alp Mortal 4.5 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

The Boatwright is the prequel to The Weaver & The Loom. I wrote The Boatwright to tell the story of how Jonah and Jason's relationship began; it is set approximately five years before the beginning of the main story. The beginning of their relationship is alluded to in the main story and many of you requested that those events were described fully. I'm happy to put those words down on paper here. The Weaver & The Loom is a gay romantic story which charts the life and love of Jonah, the weaver and Jason, the boatwright. The story is about love, the sacrifice that it demands and the gifts that it bestows. I am always very happy to receive your feedback. If you wish to contact me directly, please email me at: alpmortal@hotmail.com. Painting the Clouds: 为 云 彩 着 色 by Jacqui Henderson 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 5 hours ago

"Do you love me?" Shock burned through my veins and the world stopped turning as I looked up at her. How could she ask such a question of me? "D, Tell me our story... " She whispered. "You know it already." I responded. Surprised at her request, I threw a log into the centre of the fire, causing it to splutter and spark. "I know my story, it's true, but ours is different." Her voice was firm and the silent request filled the icy air between us. "Kalebra," I sighed, "Is this how you want to spend this night, this of all nights?" Laughing, she turned to me. "If my world is to end tomorrow, then yes, this is exactly how I want to spend this night of all nights. Tell me our story D, tell it as it will be told by those that come after us." Long ago and far away, in a land where the Outsiders' cruel rule had brought despair and misery to many, D and Kalebra find friendship, safety, warmth and love. But as with so many things, there is a price to pay.

Krion xk'Kialar, the bringer of thunder, greatest of all Xrath generals, has assumed command of their forces and launched a daring campaign against the humans and their allies. Looking forward to the next part!" - John Carmack, creator of Doom and founder of Armadillo Aerospace " This is a compelling page turner and, once again, Kroese... not only gets the economics of hyperinflation absolutely correct, but, in the best tradition of science fiction, "shows, not tells" the psychology which grips those experiencing it and how rapidly the thin veneer of civilisation can erode when money dies." - John Walker, Founder of Autodesk, Inc., co-author AutoCAD, author The Hacker's Diet, operator of Fourmilab " Kroese did his homework on financial bubbles, panics, mass psychosis, social collapse, cryptocurrency, and hyper-inflation... [B]etter than Lucifer's Hammer, and spookily realistic." - Hans Schantz, physicist and author of The Hidden Truth " You can see the foundation of the book's apocalypse in today's headlines, and that should scare the hell out of anyone. Cannot wait for book two." - T. Cannon, Amazon reviewer By the year 2032, the U.S. federal debt has surpassed $50 trillion. The American empire is on the verge of collapse. An entrepreneur named Kade Kapur has an idea for rescuing the debt-ridden United States: the government will issue stock in a company with exclusive mining rights to an asteroid whose orbit will soon bring it near Earth. The asteroid, which contains $10 trillion in valuable minerals, is officially called 2015 RK 16 Maimonides, but it soon comes to be known by another name: Mammon. Fortunes are made and America seems to have avoided an economic collapse. But when the plan to capture the asteroid goes awry, the sky will fall...

A Bridge Too ... by James Huber 4.4 Stars (4 Reviews)    Price verified 9 hours ago

It is Wichita, Kansas, about 1966-1967. No one, except big companies, had computers or even knew what one was. Or did they? A Bridge Too... is a work of science fiction involving the concept of time travel and computers science that does not fit the time period. Following on from the events of the previous book, this novella-length sci-fi story takes us back to brothers Tim and Dan Shell, who have previously spent some time inside the world of computers in a fantastical fictional world. Their cyberpunk adventure is not yet over for when Tim is introduced to time travel technology, his urge to go back and rescue Pixie from the computer world is too strong to resist. What follows is a retro adventure with plenty of nostalgic tech and modern twists. This work has the conceptual inventions at play, and the ideas with which author James Huber brings the story about. It's easy to get into the story from book one's ending, and Tim and Dan are set out well as very different types of men, which builds to an interesting clash of motivations as the plot moves forward. It is a quick and fascinating read that explores the possibilities of technology from a unique retro setting of the 1960s. Overall, A Bridge Too... is a work that will explore many popular themes for cyberpunk and time travel fans, and does so with good tension and character involvement. Call Us The Levitators by James Huber 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 11 hours ago

Levitators by James Huber is a tale of science fiction mixed with the paranormal. Four people; four different parts of the world; the same time. Each one "witnesses" something strange. Something that suggests they have a power that allows them to levitate people. All four are questioned about their experiences, and are called to London to meet with a panel of paranormal experts to discuss their new-found powers. Involved in the meeting are a representative from Interpol and another from Mossad, but just what is their interest in these people, or, more specifically, their powers? Set loose, one of the subjects goes home with a tracker implanted in him, while the other three take a different route. A chain of events has been set in motion, one that could have far-reaching effects the world over as Interpol, the CIA, and Mossad agents clash with clerics. Will any of them survive this? Will their powers be used for evil or for good? Levitators was an interesting read. It had a little bit of everything in it - the paranormal and sci-fi angle mixed with terrorism, and the fight for good over evil. I found it to be a little stilted in places and a little long-winded in others, but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the story. It was clearly a very well thought out story with a basis in current events and the plot was cleverly written. The character development was very well done, giving plenty of background on all the characters and they fitted in with the story. Overall, a good book and I would recommend it to anyone who wants something a little different to read. The MindSet Chronicles: Book One - The Deletion by Steve Truitt (Steve Truitt LLC) 4.6 Stars (36 Reviews)    Price verified 7 hours ago

In a world where artificial intelligence has become an integral part of daily life, the sudden death of all AI sends society into a tailspin - a disconnected, surreal post-AI period known as The Deletion. As the world struggles to come to terms with the loss, bad boy genius, Peter Eriksson, has invented a new form of interconnection called MindSet to reconnect the world in this strange new time. Conceived from a century-old concept, "Crowd Wisdom," this revolutionary device links the minds of all of those who possess the necessary implants, becoming the only hope for humanity to rebuild and recover from the loss of AI. But Bethany Okoyé -- Peter's part-time lover/part-time rival -- remains leery of Peter's devices and isn't shy about making her opinion known. It is only when humanity encounters a global challenge unlike any other, that the two must find a way to work together to address a threat that could endanger the very nature of reality itself. With action, suspense, and thought-provoking themes, this science fiction novel explores the dangers of our reliance on technology and the possible consequences of a world without it, while also delving into the potential benefits and dangers of a mind-connected society.

Vandemere (Circ de Tarot Book 1) by Kimberley D. Tait 4.6 Stars (38 Reviews)    Price verified 4 minutes ago

"... Tait's writing pulls the reader into Vandy's world with striking descriptions that vividly capture the settings, and introduces characters in a few deft strokes, making them lifelike and believable... A promising historical fantasy series debut... "--Kirkus Reviews Magic isn't the only thing he inherited! Trick rider in a traveling circus, seventeen-year-old Vandemere (Vandy) Petruska is caught between two worlds. As Vandy Davidson, he lives the legacy of the father who abandoned him, performing on his beloved horses in the circus ring. But he's also his Romanian mother's son. As Vandy Petruska, he seeks to deny the tarot magie his mother has gifted to him. But as the magie's power over him grows stronger, he becomes aware that the bad luck in his life isn't an accident. When his Romanian ancestors immigrated to America on the back of a trick horse, they brought something with them. Something evil. Now this evil is attacking him, and Vandy will have to learn to accept his mother's magie if he is ever going to defeat the entity that has marked him for death. Set against the harsh and unforgiving landscape of the 1930s American Southwest, Vandemere is a lyrical coming-of-age story that infuses magical realism into a young man's journey towards manhood. Vandemere is part one of a duology and the first book in the series. For the best experience, the author suggests reading Vandemere first. Fire Horse is the second book of the duology. It is possible to read the books out of sequence but not recommended. This book is a gritty depiction of life in the 1930s American Southwest. It contains violence, coarse language, self-harm, and sexual situations. Some of its darker themes may be triggering to sensitive readers. Please use discretion when deciding if this book is right for you.

A Duty of Wrath: Book 2 of the Quarterback Series by D. Martin Fuery 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 7 hours ago

It's one thing to be a well-known superhero. It's quite another to be wanted for a murder you didn't commit. Fairbanks, Alaska, was thawing from a cold winter when The Event happened in late March 2001. A street preacher from California was on his mission to warn its citizens about the coming end of times when fire rained from the heavens and the sky turned blood red. His apocalyptic message gained him many followers and thousands of dollars in donations and he returned from his mission to spread his message across Southern California. Quarterback and SHORE, an organization created for superhuman relations, come to conflict when Quarterback's unique ability is displayed when saving innocent civilians and professional SHORE superheroes. SHORE's most powerful hero, Dayforce, makes it her mission to unmask and identify a person who shouldn't exist: a superhuman who can do anything. Pastor Eric Loussard opened the Seven Trumpets megachurch in Glendale, California, when he returned from a transformative mission in Alaska. He had seen the signs of Revelation, from the breaking of the seals to the first trumpets sounding, and the multi-faced beast of Revelation rising, as prophesied in Scripture, as the superhumans altered by The Event. The coming of Tribulation cannot be stopped, but the agents of the beast are turning people away from the righteous path. Quarterback is framed for murder when the holy man's dedication turns deadly. A teen boy dies from the pastor's mission to expel the superhumans from the world and Quarterback must battle superhuman armies in his own mission to prove his innocence. Which is good, because with my fiancée too busy saving the world one pro bono lawsuit at a time to take a case that actually pays and my partner losing his shirt on a Crypt Coin investment scam, it's going to take some supernatural help just to keep the lights on. Never mind track down the Southside Stalker, the notorious serial killer terrorizing New Boston and baffling law enforcement. Or the Pestilence, the mysterious vigilante targeting the undead. (Come on, universe! Throw a girl a bone, why don't you?) But, whatever: I'm ready. I can shoot fire from my freaking fingertips. I've got this. I hope.

WADE: SUBJECT NUMBER FOUR by B. CAMP 4.6 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified one hour ago

Wade didn't remember much about his early childhood. He did remember being sick constantly and he remembered his mother. She wasn't really his mother at the time, just a kind and caring woman who lavished him with attention. He had been trapped in the facility with twenty other children, the nice lady and her husband. One morning he awakened and she was no longer there. Later he learned that she and her husband had escaped from the facility with one of the other kids. Over time he learned the nature of his illness which was tied to the nature of the facility. He learned that all of his creche were the results of genetic experimentation. The first four, him and the three who died, had foreign DNA inserted into their genomes. The idea wasn't necessarily bad but the execution was clumsy. The foreign DNA was inserted into inappropriate areas in the children's DNA and caused numerous metabolic issues. That's why he was sick and the other three had died. After that horrible outcome the later experiments focused on optimizing the DNA that was native to the child and those children did well. Wade had only a lifetime of illness ahead of him until the lady (Amy) and her husband (Ben) were recaptured. That's when he learned that Amy was a doctor that specialized in genetic disorders. She cured him. And they waited. Amy was sure that the boy that they had rescued, Aaron, would in turn rescue her and Ben and free all the children. Wade wasn't so sure about that but it was a nice dream. In the meantime, he was healthier than he had ever been and he worked to get stronger. If he was ever freed he would find the perpetrators of this nightmare experiment and he swore that he would fight against them and their objectives. The Warrior's Soul (The Year of the Dragon, Book 2) by James Calbraith 4.1 Stars (57 Reviews)    Price verified 4 hours ago

"This manuscript is full of highly crafted detail that will make readers shiver at times with fear and delight... a familiar yet highly original fantasy that is a worthwhile read." -- Publishers Weekly Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award 2012 semi-finalist. An ancient empire stands on the brink of a civil war. Their quest may push it over the edge. It is the Seventeenth Year of Queen Victoria's enlightened rule. The Qin Rebellion spreads dangerously close to the old capital and only the remainder of the Second Regiment of Royal Marines stands between the rebel army and the vital trade port of Huating. In Yamato, after a mysterious ritual fusing Bran's soul with that of an ancient warrior, he, the wizardess Sato and the shrine apprentice Nagomi flee Kiyo, pursued by the Yamato authorities - and by the associates of a shadowy figure in Crimson Robe. Their quest - to find Bran's captured dragon and discover the whereabouts of Sato's abducted father. A detailed and fast-paced historical fantasy based around the turbulent opening of Japan to the West in the middle of the 19th century, "The Warrior's Soul" is the second volume in "The Year of the Dragon" saga. The third volume, "The Islands in the Mist", is expected in Autumn 2012.

Tallulah's Temptation: Sea Shenanigans Book One by Robyn Peterman 4.1 Stars (772 Reviews)    Price verified 4 minutes ago

Running a tourist trap for humans in the Bermuda Triangle had sounded like a fine plan -- until it wasn't. With the Sea Hags gunning for our island and ruining our questionably successful business, I did what any desperate Mermaid would do. I called for backup. Of course, getting help from the Otherworld Defense Agency is risky as they don't usually deal with ocean creatures. Whatever. Desperate times call for crappy measures. Chances are they'll send freaking Pirates. I hate Pirates... Well, I hate one Pirate in particular. Hopefully, it won't be the one seafaring jackhole I despise more than any other. Pirate Doug would be an idiot to show his face here after what he'd done. Not only did the dumbass abscond with our treasure, the son-of-a-bitch took my heart with him as well. I'll tear his sorry ass to shreds if he so much as steps even one hairy toe on my island.
