A science-fantasy adventure! With their spaceship destroyed, the remaining two survivors of a failed colonization mission jettison down to a planet with the hope they can survive. Duncan, a bookish linguist, and Alexis, a beautiful gladiator in the prime of her career, suddenly find themselves drawn into the struggles between two warring kingdoms. Their fortunes improve when Alexis' combat skills are discovered, and she is challenged by the nation's berserker who underestimates his opponent and pays dearly for it. Yet no sooner is she awarded his position, title, and wealth when she is called upon to lead the nation's warriors in the first full scale battle she has ever experienced, against an enemy who take no prisoners. With the very real possibility that Alexis might not survive the battle, Duncan is left alone to fend for himself. Calling himself a Wizard of the Universe, he is brought before the Council of Prelates to explain his obvious heresy. Deftly answering their questions, he throws caution to the wind and challenges the nation's High Priest to a contest of divine favor. The one who calls down thunder and lightning from the sky is the chosen one of God and becomes the nation's High Priest. The loser dies. (This Series, The Misfits of Gambria is a reworking of a former series titled Wolf 359. Unfortunately, too many readers associated it with a well-known TV show and the two are in no manner similar.)

Crossroad Reviews When Bernard Fitzpatrick drowns in a river close to his home, the village mourns a tragic accident... and amateur sleuth Eve Mallow is on the case. Obituary writer Eve is looking forward to her new assignment, as well as spending a few days in the sweet little village of Saxford St Peter, walking the country lanes with her beloved dachshund Gus. Could this quaint English village be hiding a dark secret? As Eve starts to interview Bernard's friends and colleagues, she finds that he'd ruffled more than a few feathers. A Second Chance: A Daring Tale of High Adventure by Mark Stephen Taylor (Createspace) 3.4 Stars (7 Reviews)    Price verified 13 minutes ago

*Note: This book is also available in paperback under this 1984 title, and also under the new title of, 'The Sun, The Glass, and The Leaning Rock': The Secret of the Lost Dutchman's Gold.'A SECOND CHANCE' is a thrilling story of high adventure, of friendships, of romance, of loyalties and betrayals, and of great personal danger in the lives of ordinary people. This tale combines a tricolor of excitement, yielding the grand adventure of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark,' the enchantment and humor of 'Romancing the Stone,' and the suspenseful who-done-it of Sherlock Holmes -- hang on tight! The story opens in the year 1984, but centers on the 1924 discovery of the 'Lost Dutchman's Mine' in Arizona, the inevitable misfortune of its discoverer, and the strange fate of the loot itself. A treasure map, an unusual necklace, and a simple nursery rhyme set the stage for double murder, betrayal, kidnapping, and unrelenting drama in this tale of the high desert. An unemployed ex-cop and his two friends become entwined in this adventure-mystery, which takes the reader from Boston to Arizona, from Ohio to California, and finally into the harsh, Nevada desert, where the good guys meet the bad guys in a final, head-on confrontation. Both want to unlock the treasure's secret -- 'the sun, the glass, and the leaning rock, tell you when it's four o' clock.' If you're ready to jump out of an airplane on a foggy night, hopefully land unscathed in rugged terrain, repel from a high cliff on a short rope, take an eerie night stroll across miles of barren desert, find your way through an unyielding sandstorm, escape a deadly confrontation with rattlesnakes, pass through the turbulent waters of a flash flood, leap from a high-rolling flatcar on a train ride to terror, and in the meantime solve all the 'who-done-it' before the astonishing climax -- then you are more than welcome to the millions in gold that lay hidden within a dark, abandoned void, somewhere near Ely, Nevada.

Feynman & Boyd: Volume 1 : Manhattan by J.C.S. Wilson 4.7 Stars (12 Reviews)    Price verified 17 minutes ago

"This was a spectacular first book of the year! An alternate ending to WWII leads to high seas survival, a desert mystery and a quirky scientist's take on the mayhem... " - Goodreads "... a mix of science fiction, second world war history and of course, a post-catastrophe dystopian world. Unique, thought provoking and eminently readable." - GoodreadsSitting alone in his truck, Richard Feynman watches the Trinity Test fail. A year later, months after the celebrations that follow the end of World War Two, Lottie Boyd drifts alone on the Atlantic with a sniper rifle over her lap, one of the few to have escaped the Silent Zones. The fear that a large scale nuclear event would kick off a chain reaction of much more stable elements going into a fisson-state, burning the planet away, was real in the formative years of atomic testing. In Feynman and Boyd, the reverse occurs. The Trinity test fails due to a previously unidentified counter-reaction, where something in the natural world snuffs out combustion. The dusty by-product of this reaction, nicknamed "Deaden," is found to stabilize any combustible form, rendering weapons useless. The Manhattan Project quickly becomes a facility for creating Deaden. It is this anti-weapon that wins World War II. Within weeks of discovering Deaden, and using controlled reactions to manufacture it, it's then discovered that Deaden eventually also stops cellular combustion, killing every surrounding living thing. These areas are the Silent Zones. Despite this, manufacturing keeps being developed, and a massive, singular Silent Zone befalls most of the world, killing most living things in it's grip. Most.Lottie Boyd is in her twenties, a chronically ill woman whose illness has made her immune to the suffocation of Deaden. She has struck out for warmer climate after everyone and everything she has ever known has been killed. She sails on her father's sailboat, the Slocum, a replica of Joshua Slocum's Spray. The novel follows Lottie down the ...

The Human Zoo by Kolin Wood 4.1 Stars (148 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

WARNING: DARK CONTENT The culling struck, killing millions. Anarchy ensued. Gangs fought for control of what was left, picking on those not strong enough to defend themselves. Soon the empty streets were painted with their blood. But, as society struggled to stabilise, there were some who could see the foundations of opportunity buried amongst the ashes. The 'General' has a vision. He wants to build an army, one strong enough that it can stake a claim on the apocalypse. From inside the dark and dank walls of the young offenders institution his ideas for a strong, new society are being realised; but at what cost? Like the others, Juliana was snatched during a violent raid on her home. It left her husband dead and her young son hiding in a cupboard. That was nearly ten years ago. If she ever hopes to escape and find her boy, she must first survive the horror and degradation of her forced incarceration. But the years of abuse have taken their toll and things are getting worse. Does she have what it takes to finally escape the clutches of the General and his perverse army of juveniles? Or will the prison see her sent down into the cells below, the ones from where nobody ever returns? The Human Zoo is a blood-soaked, action horror story set against the urban back drop of a post- apocalyptic London, a dangerous, lawless city where only the strong and merciless will survive. It is the first book in the series.

A Commentary on the Book of Genesis, Chapter Three by James Thomas Lee Jr 2.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 3 hours ago

One cannot study the opening chapters of the book of Genesis without getting into some very weighty issues. There is, of course, the first chapter that talks about Creation. But there are also other issues as well. For example, who wrote the book of Genesis? Not everyone will agree that it was Moses. Plus, when, if he did write it, did he actually write it? As will be seen in that part of this text, the higher critics have argued against Moses for a reason that will be shared at that time. But other critics have also argued against Moses, as being the author of the first five books of the scriptures, by speaking about something that is called the Documentary Hypothesis. Each of those matters will be discussed in naming the author of the book of Genesis and the date of authorship. Then, after settling the Moses-authorship question, the next topic to be addressed will be the Moses-content question. The conclusion from those discussions will be that the opening chapters of the book of Genesis should be interpreted literally. Next after those preliminary issues, the actual study of the third chapter of the book of Genesis will begin. As part of the discussion of verse one, the belief of dualism will be considered. Also the belief that Satan cannot make anyone do the wrong thing will be presented. The three mistakes that Eve had made when talking to the devil will be stated. The extent of her guilt, in eating fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, will be discussed. Was she less guilty than Adam, as guilty as he, or guiltier than he? Then, the exact moment when each of them had actually sinned against the Lord will be presented, along with the sin nature and the possibility that some sins might be worse than others. In that part of the discussion, though, it will be shown that all sin is sin. So no sins are any worse or any better than any others. From there, the discussion will continue with the immediate results that Adam and Eve had felt right ...

CREEP: A Short Psychological Thriller by William Cook (King Billy Publications) 3.8 Stars (85 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

A dark story of a young woman's date with death! CREEP is a short psychological thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Serial Killers don't always get away with murder, no matter how hard they try. Includes bonus short story - Legacy. From CREEP: "Cassandra pounded on the window and frantically tried to push the rear doors open, first with her shoulders and then with her heels, to no avail. She peered into the dark confines of the garage and saw nothing except her frightened reflection looking back at her in the window, bathed in the dim yellow interior light of the cab. She cupped her neatly manicured hand across her brow and looked out the window again, her button nose touching the smeared glass as she did so. She thought she heard a deep growling noise somewhere nearby outside the cab and then her window was filled with bared teeth and the blackest, evil eyes, she'd ever seen. The huge head of the Rottweiler retreated into the shadows before launching itself back at the vehicle, the razor sharp canines crunching against the window and sending a trail of cracks across the glass. Steaming froth and saliva dripped down the webbed glass as the dog began to bark and thud its massive head against the side of the cab. Cassandra scuttled across the back seat as she wet herself, waves of fear shrinking her into a ball, as the crazed dog leaped at the cab again... " "William Cook tells a gruesome story with a sense of authenticity that makes you question with considerable unease if it really is fiction, after all." - Graham Masterton, author of The Manitou and Descendant "This man is simply scary. There is both a clinical thoroughness and a heartfelt emotional thoroughness to his writing. He manages to shock as well as empathize, to scare as well as acclimatize, yet beneath it all is a well read intelligence that demands to be engaged. I loved Blood Related. Ordinarily I hate serial killer stories, but William Cook won me over. He is a unique and ...

Grover's Creek: A Christmas Fantasy by Bobby Underwood 4.2 Stars (23 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

Grover's Creek is a wonderfully nostalgic and unabashedly sentimental Christmas fantasy. Filled with Americana and imbued with the longing most of us feel for a better time in our shared history, there is something universal in Nick's story of disillusionment with the present woes of the world. Searching for something more than his life as a crime photographer for a major paper in a metropolitan city has given him, what he finds can only be described as a Christmas miracle. A town steeped in the past, no longer on any map, and barely remembered, may hold the key to his future if he can find the faith and courage to accept what most would find beyond belief. Gentle and old-fashioned, Grover's Creek is a story of love and miracles, for those who still believe both are possible.

Searching for the Sun by Adrian Del Valle 3.7 Stars (54 Reviews)    Price verified 6 hours ago

Upstairs, he removed a yellow note, folded and stuffed between the apartment door and the molding. To Sam Garrety. I don't appreciate your cat having fits every time you leave that apartment. Either you shut him up, or I will be forced to notify the landlord. Sam wrote her back and taped the note to her door. Dear Bertha, Sorry about the meowing from my cat, Dupree, I'm both amazed and impressed by your superior hearing ability, especially in lieu of all of the construction that has been going on out on the street lately. That you could actually hear him above the jackhammers and honking traffic is truly wondrous. You can be assured that I will do my absolute very best to keep him away from the door. Sincerely, Sam. Sam left for work. When he arrived home late that evening, he found another note from Bertha stuffed inside the same place. Look idiot, I have lived here in peace and quiet my whole life. I don't appreciate your wise cracking attitude and I don't like smelling your cat every time I pass your door. Do something about the noise or else. Me.__ To Me, thank you so much for expressing your concerns so eloquently. In compliance with your request this morning, I taped Dupree's mouth shut with duct tape and hung him up by all four limbs over my bed. Surprisingly, when I got home just now, I discovered that he had somehow worked his way out of the bindings in my absence. Therefore, I decided more drastic measures will need to take place. I am looking into horse tranquilizers to subdue him at least until I get back home after work from now on. The following Morning. Sam put off checking the door until after he had coffee. Curiosity finally got the best of him. He retrieved the latest note and sat at the table to read it. To the idiot next door. Look, I don't believe any of your bullshit. If this rhetoric of yours was meant to appease me, you have a thing or two coming. I just about had it with you. I have nothing else to say. To Bertha. Hey, that's great! I'm ...

The Savannah Stargazer: A Civil War Romance by Nicola Italia 4.6 Stars (22 Reviews)    Price verified 6 hours ago

Elizabeth Suzannah Dupree lives a pampered life on a Georgia plantation surrounded by her family and friends. "Zasu," as she is affectionately known, wants nothing more than to run the orange grove plantation when her father retires and live her life in peace. She has no use for society parties, gossip, or even worse, a husband. Which suits the men of Savannah just fine, for, as beautiful as she may be, no one wants an independent, business-minded woman like Zasu for a wife. But when Zasu meets dashing lawyer Gray Talbot, everything changes. Serious and quiet, Gray doesn't wave away her ambitions as fanciful or remind her of her place in society. Instead, he treats her as an equal, and makes her question her decision not to marry. But Gray is hiding secrets, secrets that will threaten their newfound admiration for each other... Gray Talbot is an abolitionist. And preaching abolition in the South during the Civil War is dangerous. Despite threats and violence, Gray doggedly pursues his desire to see all people free and treated equally. But falling in love with a slave-holding Southern woman wasn't part of the plan. As the Civil War looms with the election of Abraham Lincoln, the slaves on the Dupree Plantation are also affected. Abused at the hands of a white man, Zasu's maid, Renny, begins to open her eyes to the idea that there is more to life than living in bondage. When war breaks out, throwing the South and their way of life into chaos, Renny and her family must decide whether to remain on the plantation or take the dangerous route to freedom. And when tragedy occurs on the plantation, Zasu must decide what she truly believes and where her heart lies.

Contending with Paul: The Hidden Story Behind the Writing of Matthew, Mark, and Luke by William Joseph Cobble Price verified one hour ago

Awarded Amazon's "#1 New Release in Biographies of Judaism" Contending with Paul: The Hidden Story Behind the Writing of Matthew, Mark and Luke, is not a book that easily fits into existing genres. Within its pages one will find history, theology, biography, and literary criticism. This book focuses primarily on the first two generations of the Christian movement. The first generation includes the Apostles, Jesus' family members, and Paul. It is this generation who would first debate how the message of Jesus should be presented to the Gentile world (non-Jews) and what would be expected of those Gentiles who desired to follow Jesus. It is the second generation of believers who began to write in a new literary genre that Christians call "gospels." The Gospel of Matthew, the Gospel of Mark, and the Gospel of Luke, are the earliest three to have survived, and it is through these writings that the debates of the first generation get carried forward by the second. Though all three gospels were written after the death of Paul, it is asserted by the author that each gospel writer contended with his continuing influence in some way, though each from their own distinctive vantage point. Paul's influence may be underestimated if one only counts his extant works in the New Testament. Modern Bibles attribute 13 letters to Paul, while some older Bibles attribute a 14th by assigning the Epistle to the Hebrews to him as well. To ask if a mere 13 letters sent out to churches and individuals throughout the Graeco-Roman world would have been enough to influence the later gospel writers is to ask the wrong question. For the benefit of using a round number, it can be estimated that Paul ministered for 30 years. Also, for the sake of a round number, the churches and individuals to whom he corresponded may be estimated to be 20. Supposing he wrote to each of these entities twice a year, Paul's total ministerial correspondence would rise from his 13 extant works to an output of 1,200. ...
