THE HOUSE OF TRYSTS Open the door to lust lies and love. Laura Manning, a woman in her late thirties, is living an unremarkable life in an English village. One day she rescues an elderly lady after she has been knocked over by her English bull dog outside her townhouse in London. This meeting catapults Laura into a secret world of trysts and entanglements. Her marriage to David, an engineer, is on the rocks. She works as an interior designer for her husband's renovation company and is struggling with a mid-life crisis. Her one daughter Juliet aged 16 is away at boarding school. Laura is lonely and is longing for a change of circumstance. On the surface it appears that Lady Pamela Spencer-Brown is very refined with impeccable breeding but underneath the elderly lady is running an illegal brothel. She employs a Jamaican housekeeper Tanice with literary aspirations and three 'girls' - Pandora, the Dominatrix, Nefertiti the Indian dancer and Cherry Blossom whose services include a special tea ceremony. The merry widow leads Laura into a dangerous world, away from her mundane and sexless situation into the realms of the dark side from which she emerges a new woman. The House of Trysts is not only about lust lies and love, it's about food! The recipes at the back of the book reflect a somewhat fractious relationship between Lady Pamela Spencer-Brown and her housekeeper Tanice. But the recipes are tried and true. Try them and enjoy!

LESSONS FROM LIFE by JEFF ROSENFELD 4.0 Stars (6 Reviews)    Price verified 17 hours ago

This is the first of four novels portraying the uplifting and timeless journeys of four generations of the Bird Family. This book is about the lifetime friendship between a seventy-five year old Holocaust survivor and an eighteen year old car accident survivor as well as their incredible experiences both before and after they met. Their will to live life to the fullest and capacity for love conquers all, even death. The novel is based in part upon my own true story and recovery from a serious car accident. KIRKUS REVIEWS An unlikely friendship is kindled when a young disabled man meets a Holocaust survivor. In this short novel, Rosenfeld weaves together the tragic, yet inspiring stories of two unlikely friends. Jonathan, 18, is a car-accident survivor and working to regain strength in his legs. Sarah, a Holocaust survivor with many emotional scars, searches for ways to live with a past that continually haunts her. When the two meet in a fitness-center Jacuzzi after swimming for rehabilitation, each opens up to reveal a tragic story of overcoming emotional and physical pain. Rosenfeld's novel moves quickly. The author advances the narrative and maintains momentum with the back-and-forth dialogue between the two characters. While the age difference between Jonathan and Sarah renders their relationship platonic, this age gap allows a distance that collapses all artifice. What the reader will find is a true sense of human connection between these characters--one that defies sex, gender and self-consciousness. At times, the reader may long for a more present-tense world. Much of the novel is occupied by back story, and the characters' present-time interactions are brief and in service to the delivery of past stories. Similarly, Jonathan and Sarah are often largely defined by their disabilities and past abuse, leaving little to present them as rounded characters except for their struggles and delicate treatment of one another. However, the author satisfyingly ...

"There is nothing in this world that forgiveness cannot heal." Waya Ridge is a homeless man in his mid-forties who has no concern for anyone else -- only himself and where he's getting his next fix. He steals a bicycle from another homeless "friend" and takes off down the Pacific Coast Highway where a callous motorist rams into the back of the bicycle and continues on, despite sending helmet-less Waya flying headlong into the rocks on the cliffside just beyond the railing. It is a driver passing in the opposite direction who witnesses the hit-and-run and stops to rescue the broken man. Thus begins a new journey down a completely different road for Waya Ridge -- and his sister, Ahyoka Ridge, who has issues of unforgiveness for her brother.
