This is the 5th book in the Manga the Furies. In this volume, Gil and Kida finally decide to do something about Franko. He was introduced as a mild pest in volume 1. Now, in volume 5 he has become a problem that cannot be ignored. In the battle, Gilgamesh transforms into Metal Gilgamesh. In his robotic form, he has access to a lot of different weaponry. The downside is that he looses the ability to use magic. As with most things, there are some battles that one simply requires a machine to deal with. The reason why Gil and Kida end up fighting Franko is rather silly, but I am not going to spoil it. In this battle I worked very hard to sketch it. It is about 20 something pages long. I also introduce the Power A Capella group. We all know that A Capella can be both dangerous and deadly to certain groups of people. Gilgamesh does not like A Capella, and so, it is dangerous to him. The battle does a healthy blend of action and comedy. It is just the type of flavor I was going for. Anyhow, if you remember, in the previous volume Enkiku sent Gil and Kida away, while he fought the Sun Eater's henchman Gates. He though he was sending them to a safe place, but he ended up making a mistake as all. It certainly goes to show that no matter where you go, or where you hide, Franko will find you, and he will mess you up, or he will sing to you a musical number. It depends on what type of mood you find him. He is a complicated character. And so, I hope you find this action graphic novel amusing.

The Furies Volume 3 Intro - Volume 3 is when Gilgamesh goes to his first Fury mission. He has his first taste as to what Kida's job is all about. This volume also shows the main bad guy in action. The bad guy of the manga is a computer guy named Gates, no relations. He collects Suns for the Abandon called Abaddon. This creature got introduced in the first volume. Now you can see him in action. It is about this time when the manga starts getting a little bit insane. There is a murderous girl scout, two werewolves, the Phantom of the Opera, a Frankenstein monster and Dracula as well. The main joke of the manga is a bit of a spoof of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Kida is trying to get revenge on that fellow. As you may have guessed, Dracula has a lot of people he has wronged in the past. It is about time he gets what is coming to him. In this book, I designed Dracula after the original douche from the book. I gave him a stupid looking mustache. Almost all the Draculas in all the movies remove the mustache. I don't really know why. I find the facial hair to be quite silly. The first time I saw the front cover of the book it looked as if it was Jose Marti, with vampire fangs. It was really silly. The parody does not follow the original novel much, it simply has some of the characters in cookie situations. Dracula never makes it to London, and Kida and Gil are playing the role of Van Hellsing. They are the ones who are trying to get Dracula. Aside from the main joke, other characters make an appearance in the manga including Franko, and his little Girl Hymth. The Phantom of the Opera reference is a little less obvious. He appears in his Mask of the Red Death form to fight Gates, to protect the sun of his world. It is one of those little parallel stories that occur while the heroes are doing the main mission. It is also a good way to introduce what the bad guys are all about. In the Furies v6, you can see a nice jump in my skills. I worked really hard on this manga volume in specific. I have a lot of nice backgrounds and everything. The Franko battle was a bit of an incoherent mess, but in this one I actually tried a little harder. The basic plot is that Enkiku got Gilgamesh and Kida killed. He wanted Franko to train them, but instead he killed both of them. With the two main characters dead, Enkiku has to bring them back to life. To do this, he goes to the Power Tournament. Before you get a little bit fussy, remember that this manga this volume was done like 15 years ago. It took me a while to find a publisher. Anyhow, in the Power Tournament the winner gets the right to use the Death Scythe. It is an arcane weapon that can bring people back to life. It kills their death in every sense of the word. While in the tournament, Enkiku has to fight his corporate boss Omega. He heard that his doggo was up to something, and being a petty jerk he decided to try to stop him. Omega does not have anything in particular against Gil and Kida. He just doesn't want Enkiku to succeed in anything he tries to accomplish. There just some type of jerk bosses like that out there. Since there is another volume, it is pretty obvious that Enkiku succeeds in bringing Gil and Kida back to life. How he goes about it is the amusing part about this volume. The main highlight battle is a robot vs dragon battle. I hope you find it amusing. This volume elaborates more on what type of crazy folks are the Powers. It is the world where Franko hails from, after all. This volume is also the ending of the first arc, the one where Franko is the main bad guy, kinda. Well, if I was making alignment chart I would say that Franko is chaotic neutral, but his daughter Hymn is chaotic evil.

In this volume, Gilgamesh and Kida get revived. Gilgamesh is already up and about. Kida did not truly die. Still, she was badly wounded when she exploded into a million pieces. Only her large mutated hand survived. With that hand, the Powers were able to reconstruct her. As luck would have it, Gil and Kida end up being thankless jerks to the Powers who revived them. As punishment they get spirited away to the worse type of hell hole imaginable. The story now focuses on Gil and Kida imprisoned in an asylum full of crazy people. Kida has already started to lose it, and she resorts to eating rats, even though she really doesn't need to eat, cause she is a Goddess. Eventually, Gil and Kida escape with help. They then encounter familiar faces. The boss battle in this volume is against Cthulhu, the unpronounceable. As with most HP Lovecraft monstrosities he has been there with them since their time in the asylum. The question is who among them is the bad, weird ancient one. As you all know, Ancient Ones are a step higher up the food chain than a Goddess like Kida, and a Demi-Human like Gil. I choose Demi human cause Gilgamesh is more God, than human. In any case, I hope you find this new volume of the Furies amusing. I worked really hard in the European armors, and wizard outfits. There is also a mini Hydra battle, which is fun, and tons of odd jokes and weird painting references. Seriously, you need like an art degree to catch all the painting references I do in all my mangas. So, onto the next volume. Yes, there is going to be a next volume. The general theme is slightly hinted at in between chapter pages. Can you guess what the next volume is going to be about?
