This is a Christmas story for children.
The town of Sweetapple and the town of Crabapple are neighbors who have never gotten along as far back as anyone can remember. They disagree about everything, and each thinks their own town is the best. So the two towns try to keep their distance from each other, even though they are right next door to each other.
Until one day, when a 'special' and very beautiful Christmas Tree appears out of thin air and teaches them how to get along and the power of friendship.
What would you say if you were sixteen and an annoying book told you to save the world? A bit of a bugger, what? Well, Tebby is not impressed. She is angry. And she wants to become a Balancer. Anybody can be one. Apparently. You just need to 'have the knowing' in order to 'do the doing'. But things get tricky when she suddenly has to save her best friend from a great Balancing hero.
Follow Tebby across the Yonder Kingdoms and deep into the black heart of the Mire where Reality is too thin for everything to happen and stay happened. Infiltrate a Dark Chapter. Learn more about chickens than is safe for your sanity. And more importantly, save the world.
Tales for Noon:
A piano reveals an old woman's youth. A time machine's lesson comes too late. Christmas trees save a lost soul's life. Ten million people live in one man's breath.
... Or Midnight:
Murder returns to an infamous moor. Asylum workers find what is worse than insanity. A shunned grave's secrets gain fatal exposure. Nighttime terrors turn all too real.
These and other stories comprise a compilation of bittersweet warmth and creeping horror, subtle illumination and dark vistas. Gregory Miller's Scaring the Crows is a genre-spanning collection of short fiction at its finest. Read it at noon... or midnight.
Hi, I'm Madison. Well that's what my mom and my teacher, Mr. Wrong (his real name is Mr. Wright), call me, but I prefer to be called Maddy. I'm 9 years old and I live in a small town in the United States with my annoying older sister Zoey, my dog Rupert, and my parents. I go to school nearby. Over the years I have learnt a lot about life and how to handle things at home and at school.
Mrs. Whitehead is our school secretary (some of us call her Mrs. Pimple) and she's 4 feet tall and about the same wide and about 150 years old. She is scary and can shout really loud. This funny short story is about the day that I got detention from Mrs. Whitehead. I wasn't even doing anything wrong; I was just standing there with Joey and Amanda. Anyway, detention's such a drag but this one turned out good in the end.
This short story has about 1,100 words.

Welcome to the bizarre and nightmarish world of the Citizen Survivors. Not quite true and not quite false; not quite comedy and not quite horror.
'Crumpet! Nothing distracts irksome men like crumpet!', a drunken voice bellowed from Strangers' Bar. The voice would have probably been ignored, had it not happened to have belonged to a member of His Majesty's XXII Committee, who had recently dispossessed the parliamentarians in the 1940s and were keen to flex their muscles.
As a result, this inebriated idea was destined to become a reality. The Southern Herald newspaper was given the dubious task of resurrecting the provocative 'Page 7 Girls'. The concept of this being to titillate and distract the populace from the horrors of the day and, in the words of one merry member, 'To keep the bastards quiet'.
Here then, against the backdrop of a defeated Britain destroying itself from within, is a collection of draft 'Page 7 Girls'. As you will see, they have been desperately cobbled ...

Dante is giving up on his dream to find his fated mate on Bear Mountain. Until, that is, he spies the curvy figure and unforgettable eyes of a sad and sassy stranger.
Tawny's life has just dropped down a well on a bright spring Monday morning. As, you know, it can. Even a pant-meltingly hot shifter like Dante. She fights to resist the attraction of opposites.
Tawny is a fish out of water in the mountain community. Catching the attention of more predatory mountain males, sassy Tawny becomes a damsel in distress and quickly learns how much she needs Dante's strong protection, so very much more than she knows.
She is also coming to discover a dark family secret of her own.

World history holds a lot of mysteries. Despite increasingly sophisticated methods and billions of dollars of research budgets, science has not explained some things.
How reliable is the information that tells us written and other historical sources inherited from ancient civilizations? After all, they were created by living people who, like us, were also characterized by many weaknesses - the desire to embellish reality, forgetfulness and a whole set of very different superstitions inherent to the time when the creator of the testimony of the era lived.
What is history for man? Weapons that help him understand his opponent in society and successfully confront him?
Or maybe this is just something akin to a myth, and this or that historical concept entirely depends on the skill of its "narrator"? Or is there still some objective data about certain events of the past, according to which we can create a fairly consistent picture of it?
In this book, we will try to lift the veil of ...

This book was written by students for students and includes, but is not limited to, aspects of the new (2016) OCR Classical Greek GCSE examination specification. It is therefore useful both as a reference book on the subject of Ancient Athens broadly, and as a textbook for students or prospective students of the OCR qualification.
Knowing the secret of reaching the heart of God is a pursuit by Dr. John Hargrove.
Keys to proper prayer is knowing what to pray for so that prayer can be answered. Here are 13 sermons which were delivered by John to the small churches where he ministered. Not only does he address the subject of prayer, but the power of forgiveness. The secret behind the parables that Jesus told are covered too, along with lessons by the Apostle Peter. Also included are sermons on the nation of Israel, which was always a subject of interest to John.
So, sit back and go to church with the late John R. Hargrove, who loved the Bible as much as he loved teaching it.
God bless and much love.

Explore love, lust and romance in a trio of tales set in seventh-century Britain, a violent time with uneasy alliances between warring kingdoms.
"Love at First Sight: the Tale of Nessa and Penda" -- When 'first love' meets 'love at first sight', the passions of star-crossed lovers turn perilous.

"The Kiss" -- Everyone remembers their first kiss... especially when it turns deadly.
Three stand-alone tales introduce you to the inhabitants of Mercia, a realm stitched together by convenient marriages and brutal battles, and torn apart by bitter betrayals and bloody revenge.
(These are also stories of women just trying to make it in a savage world, where -- much like today -- choices are limited, men hold the power, and it takes courage to survive.)

In Joan Cory's short memoir, a small-town policeman visits one Sunday evening, setting off emotions not wholly connected with the man standing at the door and his story of her spouse implicated in an out-of-state offense. Why does this feel like a fight for her family, the small children getting ready for bed and her husband out of the house? The cloud hanging over this meeting reflects a past tragedy, not a current one. Distant memory haunts her in a way she's not understood clearly before this night.

In early 2017 I heard about a new bike route in France called the 'Velodyssee', which runs from Roscoff down to Hendaye at the Spanish border, and is over 1200km (750 miles) in length. I checked out the website https://www.velodyssey.com and could see that a large part of the route hugged the west coast of France. I decided to cycle this route and found two friends to accompany me. Due to time constraints I decided to cycle over just half the route from La Rochelle to Roscoff, a distance of 640km (400 miles). Although the website gives some information about each route sections, I could not picture the route in the least in my mind. This book provides the story of our ride with the many photographs providing an idea of what the route is like. Overall the route was very varied with canal sections, cycling through forests and close to the sea, then along an old railway track. We completed cycling the route in 7 days so almost 60 miles a day on average. We took one short-cut cycling up ...

Four over-fifty year old cyclists fly into Biarritz, have a days rest to acclimatize then set off back to Teesside passing through sixteen towns twinned with British towns and arrive in Caen after eighteen days. The route included the Pyrenees, the Dordogne, the Loire Valley and Normandy. Money was raised for five charities. The reader of Four Fifty-Plus Fools Flit Fru France will find the book wonderfully entertaining and full of amusing and interesting digressions. The route was certainly challenging for old legs and their "biffons" were severely tested, with one cyclist suffering from "white penis syndrome". Letters and emails were sent out to all the twinned towns mayors in hopes that crowds would line the streets as they arrived. The reception from all the French people that they met on the way was outstanding. They were greeted by dancing in the main square in Biarritz and bunting on display in many towns that they passed through. The latter part of the ride passed through towns ...

Now to an outsider, they may just seem to be part of one more fanciful folk tale, but to those of us who grew up in the Ozark Mountains The Little People are as real as you and I. Each about as tall as a grape hyacinth, they are an altruistic clan, peaceful and loving by nature, who prefer the simple, uncomplicated, candle lit life of days gone by. They go about practicing their magic in order to bring a happier life for the mortals who live nearby. Though seldom seen, their presence is often felt by those who believe. The books are written for grown-ups who still cherish the magic of days gone by.
IN Book Three - The Ambassador and the Touchperson - Twiggs and Jay begin their official meetings between the two realms. Their friendship continues to grow and to enhance both of their lives - both of their worlds. It follows them to Twiggs' 17th birthday, which is just one week before his wedding to Cinnamon. The books are best read in order since the story continues.
Genoa, 1343. A plague ship quietly slips into the harbor bound from Cathay by way of Calla, a city under interminable siege from Tatars, who use assault tactics that include catapulting putrid, disease-ridden corpses over the city walls. These bloated bodies crawl with infected fleas. The fleas teem with bacteria. Thus, upon the flesh of these hapless refugees, bubonic plague arrives in Europe. Millions will soon die.
This is the history we know. The truth is certainly not so obvious, and humankind will never definitively know how an obscure infection spread over the course of a century from Kublai Khan's invasion of Korea, across the entire span of China along the Silk Road through India and the Middle-East to finally appear in Genoa, Italy. Examined from another perspective the plague's apparently deliberate journey tells a different story... one with disturbing implications for the near future.
Take away all a man has. Burn away every sense but that of pain. Blow away the ashes of everything he once was and will no longer be. What remains? Something deadly. Make a man into such a thing, and you make him into something worse than an animal. Such a creature is capable of anything, since it is willing to do anything. Become anything. Anything it has to be to end its suffering and die properly.
After a terrible crime, Maxwell Deem chooses the divergent pathway of revenge. With a laser-beam focus, he identifies his targets and then cuts straight to the kill. Sun hot. Blinding white. Unstoppable.

Amanda returns to school and we find out that she has a new step mom and a new step brother, Ralphie, who is 6 years old. Amanda wants us to be mean to Ralphie and his mom so she can make them go away and get her own mom and dad back together. We didn't like being asked to be mean to Ralphie but a little kitten made things so much better.
