Emma by Jane Austen (E-BOOKARAMA) 4.4 Stars (8,155 Reviews)    Price verified 10 minutes ago

"Emma", the book that was written by English descent woman author Jane Austen when she was thirty-nine, is one of the most beloved novels of her. It is said that "Emma" was the favourite novel of herself too. "Emma" was published in 1915 and since then it has always been appreciated and read by so many. In "Emma", Jane Austen who is regarded as the best English author after Shakespeare deals with tangled relationships take place in England of 19th century. Just like it is in her other books, she used an immersive writing style, though its progress slowly. "Emma" is quite predictable as for its ending, yet enjoyable; it is not a burden to read, rather very gripping. Young and beautiful Emma Woodhouse meddles in the love lives of her friends. After convincing her companion Harriet Smith to break off her engagement to a man Emma believes to be too common, a series of misunderstandings eventually teaches Emma that she doesn't know what's best for everyone. At the end, she finds happiness with her beloved Mr. Knightley.

The Ministry of the Apostle Paul by James Thomas Lee Jr 5.0 Stars (1 Review)    Price verified 2 hours ago

When this book was begun in late November 2013, the intent was to write a commentary on chapter five of Paul's letter to the church at Ephesus. But about fifty pages into that endeavor, it became clear that the book was not going in that direction. For one thing, his letter to that church had not even been mentioned in those pages. For another, the focus up to that point had been on Paul's missionary journeys. The reason for those problems was that the original intent had been to put his letter to the church into the context of his journeys. But there was so much to say about the journeys that his letter to the church had taken a back seat. So the title was changed to its current title, and the remaining efforts were applied in that direction. This book is a history of Paul's ministry. Great effort has been expended to try to date when and where Paul had gone. Then, at each stopping point, the more significant events of what had happened to him are shared. Most people would probably not think of him as taking five separate missionary journeys. But that is because the first one and the last one were not as carefully documented as the middle three. In the pages that follow, the reader will be able to clearly see those five journeys, plus his two separate imprisonments in Rome. Most people also have probably never attempted to put his writing of his thirteen letters to the churches and certain individuals into the context of what was going on in his life at the time. But this book has done that and has also dedicated space to trying to report what he was saying in those letters. For example, the person who reads this book will learn what Paul had meant when he wrote in Romans 1:20-32 that God turned certain individuals over to a reprobate mind. He or she will learn what Paul had meant in I Timothy 2:11-15 when he wrote about women being silent in the church. He or she will learn what Paul had meant in I Timothy 3:1-7 concerning men and women being involved in the ...

In Coberley Hall, there lives a secret. That secret is ready to claim its next victim. DI Colin Walker inherits the Jacobean manor house from his wife Lizzie, in whose death he has played a part. Wracked with guilt, but equally determined to forget, he takes up his inheritance only to discover a 17th century chest in the cellars. Inside it are Countess Lucy's clothes and possessions from the time of the English Civil War. A cryptic note next to her name in the village burial records leads him to question how she, once the house's chatelaine, died. His wife's death was the same? As far as Colin is concerned all love ended with Lizzie, but he has reckoned without the countess's 'dead heart's desire'. But can he trust what he sees and feels? And what of the promise he made Lizzie on her deathbed? Excerpt: 'Do you believe in good and evil, Mr Walker? Do you believe that one or the other can stalk a family in response to a great sorrow? Excerpt: 'Nevertheless, I am disappointed,' I told myself... 'I cannot understand why it should be so incumbent on me to feel my wife is still alive when she is not.'... Since coming to Coberley Hall I had begun to feel sick to my stomach with excitement. Was I then literally incapable of digesting that I had watched her breathe her last? Excerpt: But for the candle's wretched little flame I would have been sightless... Such a priest-hole had probably been built into the oldest part of the Hall in the 1580's. Excerpt: I felt compelled to brave the claustrophobic darkness whose cobwebs sizzled and shrivelled at the touch of my candle. Scared myself, I tried not to scare. Soon I was gasping for breath in a narrow space streaked with drops of blood which lined the secret walls in painted, perpendicular columns. Here, at its core, the house bled from its internal haemorrhage, it was forever dying from its bleeding heart. The life-blood oozed from its walls in large red and white teardrops for the blood and water of the ...

Are they Nazis? Should he contact the police? He discovers that one of the men has damning evidence against the other and is forced to choose who to turn over to the police. Set during the Gulf War and with a backdrop of middle class Australian coastal life, Hunter is a coming of age story which poses some interesting questions about nationality, social acceptance, conformity and middle class suburban life in Australia. Missing - Caught Red Handed (Ryan Mallardi Private Investigations Book 3) by R Shannon (KDP) 4.2 Stars (104 Reviews)    Price verified 5 hours ago

REVIEWS: Christian Mystery Romance & Suspense Well written romantic suspense that has an ensamble cast facing real life challenges. The interactions between the characters makes for very interesting reading and the faith based foundation adds grounding to the story. I am not Catholic but found the perspectives of Fr Liam to be powerful and inspiring. - Goodreads DESCRIPTION: Two beautiful women go missing in Ocala, Florida. One of them, everyone seems to be looking for and the other one is reported missing by David Evans, who knows her for less than a month. Ryan Mallardi, PI, is hired to search for both women by different people and for different reasons. While his personal life goes upside down, through no fault of his own this time, he tries to turn it right side up again while finding the two women. Going on instinct, Ryan unravels the mysteries of why both women disappeared. Through intuition, wit, surveillance and some other maybe-illegal tactics, Ryan finds out where the women went, who's responsible for lying, murder and the coverup. SERIES vs. STAND-ALONE EBOOKS: This book contains enough history and background to be read as a stand-alone book. Each book in the series contains a mystery, crime or psychological drama that has a beginning and an ending. They are, of course, best enjoyed reading in order, as the character arcs and the family drama play out from book to book. If you like family sagas with a bit of mystery and intrigue, you will enjoy reading the Ryan Mallardi Private Investigator Series in order from start to finish. This book ends with a phone call about another murder that will become the subject of it's own story in Book 4, but it is not a cliffhanger. TRIGGER WARNING: This story includes the subject of domestic violence as well as a few violent scenes and this could trigger anyone having personal issues with it, so please be aware of that.

Lessons Learned from the Godly Kings of Israel by James Thomas Lee Jr 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

This text was not written to show how much better the godly kings were than the ungodly kings. It was not written to try to show that God had loved the children of Israel more than the people of all of the other nations. To the contrary, this text was written to show that, in some instances, the godly kings did some things that were just as bad as any of the ungodly kings of Israel. It was written to show that the Lord loved the people who opposed the children of Israel just like He loved the children of Israel. The notion that He had showed special favor to one type of people over another is not scriptural. God has always loved all of the people of His Creation even if He has not always loved everything that they have done. He has also always loved all of the people of His Creation even when they have not loved Him back. So it is hoped that those truths will be evident to those who reads this book. In the pages that follow, four truths will be emphasized. The first is that the Old Testament saints were not continually indwelled by the Holy Spirit in the same way as the New Testament saints. That means that they did not have the same advantages in trying to live for the Lord. The second is that the scriptures do not and were not intended to share exhaustive details about everything and everyone within their historical presentations. That means that they might share a very negative event about a godly king, without trying to offset it with a positive event. The scriptures were written to show the Lord's involvement with humanity and to show people how to find Him. They were not written to say that the godly kings really were godly. The third truth, that will be shared is that all people are sinners. So one should not expect too much from the godly kings of Israel. The fourth truth is that they did not lose their salvation even though some of them did some pretty bad things. So with those few thoughts, it is hoped that the readers of this text will find it ...

The Devil to Pay (Wicked Sons Book 1) by Emma V Leech 4.5 Stars (571 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

From the highly acclaimed , award winning author of the Girls Who Dare and the Daring Daughters, Emma V Leech, comes the exciting new series about the sons of the Girls Who Dare, Wicked Sons. Their mothers dared all for love... Their sisters did the same. What will the sons do for the women they love... A Wicked Son... Tall, dark and handsome, ridiculously wealthy, and the heir to a title. With so many blessings in his life, for this Wicked Son there is very little point in being anything more than ornamental. Or at least... that is what everyone believes, but this man has a secret. For a man in his position, if anyone discovered he is the mysterious author of The Ghosts of Castle Madruzzo, it would make him a figure of ridicule. His first novel was a tremendous success, and though his sales are excellent, he is aware he has never quite recaptured the dynamism of that first book. His readers don't seem to care and clamour for more, yet a certain lady critic keeps plaguing him with bad reviews. Somehow, she has guessed he is a nobleman, and delights in finding fault with his less elevated characters. A little time undercover should do the trick, to prove to himself, and the lady, that he is nothing if not committed to his art. A lady to be reckoned with... As the eldest-and only sensible sibling-in an overburdened family, Selina Davenport is holding onto sanity by a thread. The absolute last thing she needs is the presence in her life of an over privileged nob pretending to be something he's not. Like she can't tell at a glance that he is not the lowly gardener he is purporting to be. The nincompoop. That's not to say she isn't prepared to have a little fun at his expense. A game that gets out of hand... But when an immovable object meets an irresistible challenge, sparks are bound to fly, but will they burn down everything around them? This is the first book in the new series, Wicked Sons.

Spartacus: The Myth and the Man by M. J. Trow 3.6 Stars (19 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

This is a revised version of M. J. Trow's classic biography of an ancient and unforgettable hero. 'I am Spartacus' ranks among the most famous lines in Hollywood, with its image of the man's comrades prepared to die in his place in the Kirk Douglas film. And die they did; not the actors but the real army of Spartacus, crucified in their thousands along the Appian Way that leads to Rome. Spartacus: The Myth and the Man is a revised version of M. J. Trow's original biography, the first to be written in English, of a legend who has become all things to all men. He has been the focus of a ballet and an opera. Karl Marx called him 'the finest fellow in ancient history' and a communist group in 1920s Germany tried to topple the Weimar government in his name. The humble slave from Thrace (today's Bulgaria) became a gladiator, led a revolt and took on the greatest military system in history - Rome. The Romans were understandably anxious to erase him from history, so key facts about the man are hard to come by. What we do know is that he fought not one, but six Roman armies and beat them all before his final defeat. Thoroughly researched and impressive in its breadth, Spartacus: The Myth and the Man will please readers with an interest in ancient history. Praise for Spartacus: The Myth and the Man: 'Puts the fascinating story of Spartacus and his rebellion into its historical context in great detail. I really enjoyed it' - Amazon review 'If you're interested in Ancient Rome, or really enjoyed the Kirk Douglas epic, this book is fascinating. It highlights how the Spartacus story has been used and misused down the centuries and attempts to put flesh on the bones of the story' - Amazon review M. J. Trowis a historian, biographer and crime novelist. His books include the well-known Lestrade and Maxwell series as well as non-fiction such as Who Killed Kit Marlowe? and Vlad the Impaler. Originally from Wales, he now lives on the Isle of Wight.

True Blue Tucker by Campbell Jefferys 4.1 Stars (7 Reviews)    Price verified 6 hours ago

Two men go in search of the real Australia, and find it in a bar in Munich. But what will they do with it now they've found it? Australia. What comes to mind when you see or hear this word? Guys in khaki shorts jumping into crocodile infested waters. Long, white sand beaches. Shrimps on barbecues. Athletes and actors. "Really? Mel Gibson is Australian?" Surfer boys and pin-up girls. Cuddly koalas that aren't really bears. Come on. There has to be more to Australia than that. There is. Much more. True Blue Tucker is the story of Darius and Humphrey, two friends who go looking for the real Australia, a journey that takes them to Australia's north-west, Canada's ski hills, London's damp streets and Munich's bars. Along the way, they learn about themselves, about their country and about what the world thinks of Australians. Ambitiously and misguidedly, they set about changing the stereotype, by opening an Aussie bar in Munich that tells the real history of Australia. It's out with the inflatable crocodiles and in with information about stolen Aboriginal children; out with Paul Hogan and in with Pauline Hanson. And there's convict stew on the menu, and not kangaroo burgers. No other work of fiction tackles the topic of Australian identity, history and society quite like True Blue Tucker. What does it mean to be Australian? Read this book to find out.

The Evolution of a Scar by Amara Huck 4.6 Stars (20 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

Jordan I hated my scars. They were a symbol of everything that was wrong in my life. Everything changed when I met psychic Molly Welch. She claimed that I could have a do-over. I would get to change the story of my life. I didn't believe her at first, but then I found myself in downtown Omaha of 1958. Now that I was here, I was going to take it all back. I was going to find and end the man who destroyed my life before he had the chance to do it. I had no idea what was just around the corner. Molly said that once I'd fixed everything, my journey in the past would end and it would hurt. I didn't believe that either. I should have. James When I wasn't working, I was at the gym. No matter how big I bulked up, I couldn't shake the nagging feeling that it wasn't enough. I was damaged. I had saved myself for the right girl, but after Korea, I was afraid that day would never come. Jordan walked into Archie's bar looking for work and lit a spark of hope in my life. When an all too familiar episode of panic left her crumpled on the floor, I scooped her up in my big arms and promised I'd chase all of her monsters away. I meant it. Archie There was nothing wrong with my attitude. I couldn't help that I was right. Human beings were terrible. My father was a dark void in a fancy suit. My ex-fiancé was Satan in a Tiffany's bracelet. They both tried to break me and failed. I was as stubborn as an ox and was going to do things my way... Then Jordan came along. She mouthed off to me at a diner, and I knew I was in trouble. At first, I thought she was another pawn in my father's scheme, but then she had a breakdown at my bar. My father doesn't deal in damaged goods. If he didn't send her to manipulate me, then what was her angle? She was hiding something. It was only a matter of time before I figured it out. Guy Jordan was a short, sassy, delicious little "human being". She's actually a Martian. She basically admitted it to me. Anyway, I loved her. I loved her face. Her laugh. ...

Commentary on Romans by Thomas Bear 5.0 Stars (2 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

On the cover of this book is a picture of the ancient Roman Colosseum that still stands today. In its early years, many Christians were killed in the Colosseum while thousands of Roman citizens watched from the stands. Most likely, some of these Christian martyrs had heard the book of Romans being read to them years before they laid down their lives for Jesus. Paul wrote the book of Romans to help establish them in the faith and to prepare them for the day of their death. He warned them that unless they held fast their confession firm to the end, they would not inherit eternal life. Their willingness to die for Jesus in the Colosseum proved that their faith was genuine. Jesus and His Apostles taught that to inherit heaven, a person must be willing to lose his life for Jesus. The Christians to whom Paul wrote were serious. They knew that if they confessed and continued to confess their allegiance to Jesus, it could cost them their lives. Paul's letter helped them to count the cost and to learn gospel truth that could propel them to their ultimate goal of eternal life with Jesus. In the twenty-first century, many Christians assume that as long as they keep going to church and continue to hold tightly to the Apostle's creed, they will inherit heaven. They lack the sense of urgency and seriousness that can prepare them for intense persecution. The book of Romans can reignite their faith if it is properly understood. This commentary was written to show what it means to live by faith with a greater sense of urgency, just as Jesus and His Apostles intended.

The Dark (The Dark Series Book 1) by Charnae 5.0 Stars (15 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

My grandmother is gone. I watched her walk into the Dark, and those who enter that place are never seen or heard from again. My name is Vale Rennick, and I've lived all of my eighteen years in a tiny community of three thousand people surrounded by the Dark. We know little about the Dark but have experience with the requirements it sets, like how minimal space and limited resources necessitate our eldest citizen to enter the Dark upon the birth of a new baby. The fate of the departed, like the origin of the Dark, is a mystery. My family keeps our community's history, and Gran, our most seasoned story keeper, is the latest to walk. But on her Departure Day, she gives my father the last of her stories. Information I hope will reveal the secrets of the Dark, end the departures, and reunite me with Gran. Information he refuses to give me. But amid smothered hopes, the impossible happens. Three strangers emerge from the Dark, desperate for my help, demanding my secrecy, and opening an entire world of possibilities. They are the key to getting answers. If only the strangers would abandon their pesky set of rules. And their most frustrating rule of all? Not to tell me anything.

Cosmopolitanisms and the Jews (Social History, Popular Culture, And Politics In Germany) by Cathy Gelbin (University of Michigan Press) 5.0 Stars (3 Reviews)    Price verified 3 hours ago

Cosmopolitanisms and the Jews adds significantly to contemporary scholarship on cosmopolitanism by making the experience of Jews central to the discussion, as it traces the evolution of Jewish cosmopolitanism over the last two centuries. The book sets out from an exploration of the nature and cultural-political implications of the shifting perceptions of Jewish mobility and fluidity around 1800, when modern cosmopolitanist discourse arose. Through a series of case studies, the authors analyze the historical and discursive junctures that mark the central paradigm shifts in the Jewish self-image, from the Wandering Jew to the rootless parasite, the cosmopolitan, and the socialist internationalist. Chapters analyze the tensions and dualisms in the constructed relationship between cosmopolitanism and the Jews at particular historical junctures between 1800 and the present, and probe into the relationship between earlier anti-Semitic discourses on Jewish cosmopolitanism and Stalinist rhetoric.

From the River to the Sea: A Novel of Love and Conflict on an Elite College Campus by Lawrence Martin (Lakeside Press) 5.0 Stars (5 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

"From the River to the Sea" is a novel centered on a fictional elite university campus outside Chicago. It takes place in the year before the Hamas massacre of Israelis on October 7, 2023. The protagonists are college students affected by the campus BDS movement (boycott, divestment, sanctions of Israel). Some are supportive and others are in strong opposition. Through dialogue, much background information about the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict is presented. The two main characters are senior David Applebaum and Freshman Rebecca Goldman. David wants Rebecca in his bed. Initially, she says no. Repeatedly. But then something bad happens, and she reconsiders. Other characters include Michael Solomon, a Jewish convert to the Bahá?í faith, Gordon Geddy, the local BDS club leader, and a history professor who has a new book to explain the anti-Semitism on college campuses. Early in the novel two FBI agents pay a visit to the school president's office. They relay concern about a possible terrorist attack on campus. Is BDS involved? Possibly. Readers should find the novel both educational and entertaining. Educational; Historical context for the Hamas attack and war that followed. Entertaining; Sex (not graphic), love, mayhem. It's all here.

But not far behind, is another man hellbent on stopping that from happening for reasons his own. A father's love for his child, and a man's love for retribution, clash in a world gone apocalyptic, where the dead roam the world, and those still alive must contend with the fallout. In fact, it soon becomes the law of all lands: every zombie, including individuals who recently passed away but haven't returned, must be burned, torched beyond all recognition. Knowing full well the repercussions, Pedro wants to bury his child in Sienna's garden. Even in death, every boy needs his mother. This volume features new work on cinema in early twentieth-century Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Republican China. Such a Nice Guy by Phil Torcivia 4.6 Stars (32 Reviews)    Price verified one hour ago

Strip an East Coast man in his forties of his marital obligations, transplant him into San Diego, and something funny happens. Enjoy 84 humorous anecdotes about relationships, love, sex, and lifestyles. Excerpt from Such a Nice Guy - The Walk of Shame I define this as the walk a woman takes from a man's residence to her car after a night of bumping nasties. Did this originate with the "Bridge of Sighs" in Venice? I sure hope not. After all, it doesn't come with a prison sentence. I find this walk hurtful (sniff) and I demand an apology on behalf of my scorned brothers. Why is the walk shameful? • If the neighbors see you, they will think you're slutty. • You're wearing the same clothes from last night (with an assortment of new pulls, wrinkles, and stains). • Your sobriety has exposed my flaws. When I leave a girl's house, I take the "walk of pride" because: • If the neighbors see me, they will think I'm stud-worthy, trustworthy, and responsible for all those funny noises they heard last night (except the sirens, usually). • My wearing the same clothes makes them more weathered looking, which is fashionable for dudes. • You're beautiful and my leaving after sunrise proves you're not a vampire. I will submit a Proposition P to have it renamed the "walk of pride" in the next election. In the meantime, you can park closer, leave before sunrise, dress like a meter maid, or drive a UPS truck.

Part of an improbable plan for peace, Lorelei works to drive humanity toward a future that's female. Exclusively female. When the violence burns down, surviving women use Lorelei's drugs to take control. Changes are made. Baby boys are taken from their mothers, and selected women raise only daughters. For every boy allowed to live, three baby girls are born. Men and women live apart, neither concerned nor interested in each other until forced together. In exchange for fragile peace, the idea called family is forgotten -- until a small girl named Aida gets into Boys' School and meets a boy named Alex. Aida grows up with a unique perspective: she is the only girl in the world who lives with her father and knows boys. Alex is an Infinity Boy born on a Life Ticket that guarantees 80 years but provides no more rights than every other dosed and confined male. A girl. A boy. A unique bond. These fragile beginnings may be the only hope for humanity to finally reach a perfect equilibrium.

Quigley Tree: A Novel by Linda A Lavid (Plum Barn Press) 4.7 Stars (31 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

Quigley Tree drops out of college. At age 23, she's been a complete failure. If she doesn't do something soon, her life will careen into a deep, dark, irrevocable void. Tick Tock. That soon is now. From the publisher: Five-Star Review from Readers' Favorite by Lorraine Cobcroft: Quigley Tree, the protagonist of Linda A. Lavid's novel of the same name, is a young woman with an odd name. A college dropout from a dysfunctional home, and recently escaped from a relationship with a narcissist, Quigley needs to find a new place to live, quickly. A unique idea sets her on a path to find accommodation in a motel in exchange for providing marketing help, but she eventually must admit she has no idea what she is doing. She is a complete mess and has no faith in her ability to do anything useful with her life. Yet a kindly couple takes her on, and, with their help, and the help of an elderly lady she befriends, she begins to reshape her life and overcome her self-destructive attitude. Quirky is the best adjective to describe this work by Linda A. Lavid. Quigley Tree is as quirky as the protagonist's name. Q (as Quigley calls herself) grew on me and won me over. I empathized with her deep feelings of insecurity and her struggle to come to terms with a fractured family and a chaotic childhood. As the story progressed, there were poignant moments, and Lavid presented some interesting perspectives on life. There were also touches of whimsy in this tale of resilience and determination. In classic literary fiction style, Lavid focuses her novel on the character and theme rather than the plot. Quigley Tree, the story, ambles along at a leisurely pace, tracking Q's growth and gradual acceptance of herself and adjustment of her attitude toward her defective mother. Pearls of wisdom are scattered in conversations with her elderly friend, her employers, and the man who eventually wins her affection. The ending tempted me to shed a few tears, touched by Quigley's care for her toddler ...

With Blood by Aaron M. Geist 4.8 Stars (9 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

The Empire of Clyos is not the safe kingdom that it once was. An unknown cult has arisen within the kingdom's borders, committing heinous crimes and sacrifices without leaving a trace behind. The name of this cult has been speculated by many, and known by few... The Shadows of Hema. They strike after the sun sets, with their cause remaining a secret. One very unfortunate mage has begun to unravel this conspiracy. Joshua is a learner of healing magic, determined to one day become an official healer and help the weak with his magical abilities. This goal has now become an impossible dream, as Joshua soon finds himself abducted by the infamous band of murderous criminals. In his attempt to escape, Joshua is introduced to the many members of this mysterious cult. He becomes aware of the reasoning behind their actions. He finds that these criminals originate from every corner of Clyos, of both elven and human races. They have sought refuge in their faction as outcasts of society. However, Joshua soon discovers that two of his captors have taken a rather uncomfortable interest in him... Aaron M. Geist is an anonymous author, going by a pen name to keep their true name concealed. This tends to happen when one is an author specializing in erotic fantasy! Because they are a member of the LGBTQ+ community, they center their writing on same-sex relationships. Same-sex relations in the erotic fantasy genre are severely lacking, and this author has taken it upon themselves to change that one book at a time.

Purple Hearts: A Slow Burn Romance by Arthur Archambeau 4.4 Stars (31 Reviews)    Price verified 2 hours ago

A gritty slow burn with a Christian bent. "I Laughed Until I CRIED. What An Amazing Story!" Everyone has a war story to tell. A jaded cop struggling to come to terms with her past falls for an idealistic former Marine turned cat rescuer on the crime-infested streets of West Baltimore. Hope Kennedy is a cynical Baltimore cop. Her beat is the Mondawmin area of West Baltimore -- the most dangerous neighborhood in America's most dangerous city. And she's struggling -- unsuccessfully -- to overcome a terrible event that has come to shape her life. Hope's become angry and bitter. She's spiraling out of control. Hope has lost hope. Luke Matthews is a decorated Marine Corps combat veteran. He received the Purple Heart for a wound inflicted in Afghanistan. Now, he works as a carpenter for a nonprofit that builds homes for disabled vets. In his spare time, he volunteers with a local cat rescue. But Luke's battling his own demons. He's haunted by the war. Specifically, by a fog of war experience -- a tragic accident -- that has left him racked with guilt. When Hope and Luke meet in a dingy alley, it's anything but love at first sight. But a near-fatal accident a week later forges a bond. Eventually, in the middle of a cold Baltimore winter, a romance heats up. Little-by-little, Hope and Luke help one another feel alive again. But Hope doesn't know how to process her past, a past that is now jeopardizing her future. And as she and Luke get closer, she questions whether she's worthy of love. Can two wounded, badly bruised, purple hearts come together and help one another heal? Purple Hearts is not for the faint of heart. It's as gritty as the city it's set in. It's a slow burn, blue-collar romance about going the distance. And finding unconditional love at the end of the journey. It's a story about life and death, joy and sorrow, laughter and tears -- and ultimately, hope. All wrapped in the love of two perfectly imperfect human beings.
