Normally I don't have any religion in my stories. I don't feel qualified being as I have no degree in theology. This story is different. Kip has his own ideas on how this world should world should be run and he does have some serious discussions on the matter.
Now, he's making deals. He normally does not do such things, but he's desperate. It seems to him to be the only way to rid himself of a pest.
Of course, by now he's become a pessimist. Among other things, he believes those killers in Mexico will never come north of the border. They are using that invisible line to hide, and now the Mexican officials are having problems with them.
Over time, however, he realized that things are not always as they seem and his conclusions aren't always right.
